A/N: I just want to say a couple of things before this chapter starts. The first thing is, this is Klara from the Sword and Shield DLC. Second thing is, when I started this story, I said I would not include Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet. However, now I'm changing my mind and they will be added. The last thing is, for the remaining gym battles, I won't make them any bigger than four on four. This is purely for my own selfish reasons, because doing any more is too much for me for these chapters. However, for the tournament at the end of the season, those will have six on six.

Disclaimer: I do not own anything, I make no money or profit from this.

Chapter 45: Dark City Gym Battle Klara vs Ronnie Anne

[Dark City]

The three trainers had finally made it to Dark City and were at the pokecenter. All three trainers were excited to be here for their 6th badge. Clyde and Ronnie Anne did try to talk with their Mankeys', but both were still mad at them for the battle and being captured. So both trainers decided to Wonder Trade them. Ronnie Anne was already having a hard enough time with Mightyena, and Clyde didn't want a similar situation. So at Dark City's pokecenter, Lynn was talking to Professor Juniper about getting her team, while Clyde and Ronnie Anne were in the Trade Room of the pokecenter.

"You can go first," Clyde said to his friend.

"Thanks," she said as she walked up to the machine. She placed her Mankey's pokeball into the machine, pushed the button, and then waited. It was then teleported and then a Dive Ball took its place. "Alright, your turn Clyde," she said, grabbing her new Dive Ball.

Clyde nodded and took her spot at the machine. He placed his Mankey's pokeball into the machine, pushed the button, and waited. It was teleported and then a Sport Ball took its place. "Let's go outside and see what we got," he said, grabbing his new Sport Ball.

As the two were leaving, they ran into Lynn who now has her team. She joined them and then left the pokecenter.

"I'll go first!" Ronnie Anne said, tossing her Dive Ball. It popped open and what came out was a small brown and purple seahorse that looked like kelp. "Cool! What is it?" She asked her companions.

"It's a Skrelp," Lynn said, looking at the Pokemon.

"Skrelp is the Mock Kelp Pokemon and is a Poison and Water Type," Clyde added.

"Awesome! Hey Skrelp, I'm your new trainer," Ronnie Anne said, holding a fist out to it. Skrelp cried happily and then bumped his head against her fist.

"Alright! Now it's my turn!" Clyde said as he tossed his Sport Ball. It popped open and what came out of it was a blue for legged creature with a fish like tail, and a strange frill on its back and around its neck. "No way! I got a Vaporeon," he said in a shocked voice.

Vaporeon looked around, before seeing its pokeball in Clyde's hands. Realizing what happened, it looked down with sadness.

"Hey what's wrong?" Clyde asked his new Pokemon in worry.

"Judging from its body language, I don't think it was expecting to be traded," Lynn said with a small frown. To which the Bubble Jet Pokemon nodded sadly. This got the younger trainers to look at it with concern, wondering why its trainer did trade it.

"Don't worry Vaporeon," Clyde said, kneeling down and hugging the Pokemon. "I won't get rid of you like your previous trainer." The Vaporeon let out a small cry, trying to sound happy, but was obviously still upset.

"Well, return your Pokemon and let's go to the Gym," Lynn said. She did feel sorry for the Vaporeon, but they still have things to do.

Ronnie Anne recalled Skrelp, and Clyde was about to do the same for Vaporeon, when he got an idea. "Do you want to stay out and walk with us?" Clyde asked his new Pokemon. Vaporeon looked surprised, but then nodded enthusiastically. Clyde smiled and put away its pokeball, and they all started to make their way to the gym.

As they walked, Clyde and Ronnie Anne used their poketch to get information on their new Pokemon. They eventually made it to the Gym, which was a larger square building. It had a Dark City Gym sign beside the doors, and a large sign of the Bug Type above them.

"Here we are," Lynn said looking up at the gym. Both younger trainers said nothing and just nodded, before they all walked inside.

As soon as they walked in, the battlefield was in front of them. It was a standard battlefield, with seating on both sides of the battlefield.

"Hello?" Ronnie Anne shouted while looking for someone. "We're here for a gym battle."

"Wait! Really!" They hear a feminine voice shout back. Soon someone came running from the back room in a hurry. It was a young woman who was slender with fair skin, blue eyes, and pink hair. She wore pink lipstick and eye shadow and had a mole under her mouth. She wore a white fur coat over a purple T-shirt, and black shorts, and a white and blue moth-like bow with pink circles on it. She also wears a white bracelet on her left wrist, a thumbless purple and black glove on her right hand, and a white ring on her left hand. On her feet, she wears pink and white shoes with black heels and purple knee-length stockings.

"Welcome!" She said in a cutesy and friendly voice. "I'm Klara, the Gym Leader of Dark City's Poison Gym!"

"Isn't this a Bug Gym?" Clyde asked, confused.

Klara flinched at this, making the same mistake again. "Haha, yes that's what I meant," she said, trying to hide her embarrassment. Seeing the three trainers giving her deadpan looks, she sighs in frustration. "Alright! I wanted to be the Poison Gym Leader, but that old man Koga refuses to allow me to have it," she tells them in a frustrated and annoyed voice. "There's even rumors that he plans to give the position to one of his relatives when he does quit! Which means I still don't have a shot at it!"

"Can he do that?" Ronnie Anne asked her companions.

"It is possible, but it's not that simple," Clyde replied.

"They would have to be tested by the League, then the person would then have to face any other candidates that want the position," Lynn started to answer in detail. "If they beat them all, they would be the new Poison Gym Leader. However, if they lose, then one of the other candidates will be selected."

"Really?!" Ronnie Anne and Klara asked with wide eyed expressions.

"You knew all that?!" Clyde asked his mentor, surprised.

"Yeah, that's how it works," Lynn said to the female trainers, before looking at the only male trainer. "I know this because me and Linc talked about this with Roxie." Klara suddenly ran up to her and grabbed her hands, while shedding tears.

"Thank you for telling me that!" She said while crying happy tears. "That means I still have a chance to be the Poison Type Gym Leader!"

"Uh, no problem," Lynn said in an awkward tone, before freeing her hands. "Can we get our gym battles now?"

"Oh right," Klara said, before regaining her composure. She then took in her challengers faces. "You three look familiar, where have I seen you from?"

"Maybe from one of our battles that was televised?" Ronnie Anne suggested.

"That's it!" The pink hair Gym Leader said with a look of realization. "You are the last people who challenge Erika!" She then started to laugh hysterically. "Her gym temporarily closing down is one of the things every gym leader in Kanto is talking about. I was told they were considering me to take over the gym for the rest of the season, before it was decided to close it for the season."

"We want to replace the Rainbow Badge we got from her," Lynn said, trying to get the girl back on track.

"I don't blame you for doing that," Klara said, finishing with her laughing. "So who's going first?"

"I am!" Ronnie Anne said excitedly, stepping forward.

"Alright, you can get into position," Klara told the younger girl. "I need to get the referee and then I'll scan your license." She then looked at Lynn and Clyde. "You two can go sit in the seats and watch, while you wait for your turns."

All three challengers nodded and went where they were supposed to go, with Clyde returning Vaporeon to her Sport Ball. Klara went to the back to get the referee and Pokemon, scanned her license, and then took her position.

"This is an official match between Klara of the Dark City Gym and Ronnie Anne Santiago from Great Lakes City." The referee's voice was loud, clear, and echoed throughout the building. "Both trainers will be able to use four Pokemon, with only the challenger being able to switch out Pokemon. The battle is over when all of someone's Pokemon is unable to battle or one forfeits. The match begins now."

"Come on out Skorupi!" Klara said, sending out a lavender blue scorpion.

"Let's go Murkrow!" Ronnie Anne shouted, sending out her Pokemon. "Let's start with Wing Attack!"

"Wait for it to get close and then use Poison Fang!" Klara shouted, seeing the flying Pokemon.

Murkrow's wings started to glow, before she dove down towards her opponent. Skorupi stood its ground and waited, while its fangs glowed purple. The Darkness Pokemon swooped down, hitting its opponent. However, when the wing hit, the Scorpion Pokemon used that opportunity to bite onto the wing that hit it. Skorupi was sent across the battlefield, while Murkrow flew back up in the air. Unfortunately, Murkrow wasn't looking well.

"Are you okay Murkrow?" Ronnie Anne asked her Pokemon.

"Oh dear, looks like my Skorupi may have poisoned it with that little bite~" Klara said with fake sympathy.

Ronnie Anne growled at her, but focused back on her Pokemon. "Can you still battle?" She asked Murkrow. The Pokemon nodded and let out a proud cry. "Alright then, let's use Acrobatics!"

"Now Skorupi, use Venoshock!" Klara said. This got a wide eyed look from her opponent, recognizing the attack.

Murkrow then flew down and got close to Skorupi. She then started to constantly fly by it at a quick speed, hitting it with her wings as she flew by. Skorupi waits for the right moment, before shooting a purple liquid from its mouth at its opponent. When it hit Murkrow, she let out a loud cry of pain and skid across the ground.

"Are you okay Murkrow?!" The young trainer asked with worry. Murkrow struggled, but got to her feet. She let out a cry that she wanted to continue, her trainer nodded. "Alright, then let's finish this with Brave Bird!"

"Wait for it and then use Cross Poison!" Klara shouted.

Murkrow glowed brightly, before diving towards her opponent. Skorupi's arms glowed purple, waiting for the Flying Pokemon to get close. The Scorpion Pokemon slashed just as Murkrow was in front of it, creating an explosion. Both Pokemon were sent flying and were knocked out.

"Both Pokemon are unable to continue," the referee said. "This battle is a draw." Ronnie Anne and Klara called back their Pokemon and prepared to send their next one.

"I guess this is why Klara is a Gym Leader," Lynn said, as she gave a little clap.

"Yeah, I was a little concerned that this was going to be another Erika battle, since Klara is new," Clyde said with a smile. "But it seems like she is actually challenging us."

"Challenge you and Ronnie Anne," Lynn clarified. "We don't know if she has faced a trainer who has done multiple gym challenges. We won't know until I go against her."

"Come out Whirlipede!" Klara said, releasing a lavender insect rolled up in a ball with red circles on its body.

"Let's do this Houndoom!" Ronnie Anne said, sending out her recently evolved Pokemon. "Start things with Flamethrower!"

"Use Iron Defense and Steel Roller!" Klara ordered.

Whirlipede started to glow silver and its body turned silver, before it started rolling towards its opponent. Houndoom unleashed a stream of flames from her mouth at her opponent. The Curlipede Pokemon got hit by the flames and kept on rolling, slammed into the Dark Pokemon, and sent her flying.

"Can you still battle?" Ronnie Anne asked her Pokemon. Houndoom slowly got back and nodded. "Alright, then let's use your new move Inferno!"

"Let's use Iron Defense and Steel Roller again!" The Bug Gym Leader shouted.

Whirlipede glowed and became silver again, and rolled towards its opponent. Houndoom shot fire from her mouth again, only this time the flames were scarlet red. They engulfed the Bug/Poison Pokemon, but it was still rolling. Unfortunately, just as it reached Houndoom, it stopped moving and fainted.

"Whirlipede is unable to battle!" The referee announced. "The winner is Houndoom!" Ronnie Anne and Houndoom started celebrating, Clyde was cheering in the seats, while Lynn was smiling and clapping. Klara called back her Pokemon and prepared to send the next one out.

"She's half way there," Clyde said happily, done with his cheering.

"Yeah, but we don't know what she'll use next," Lynn told her male student.

"Let's show her our strength, Centiskorch!" Klara said, sending a large red centipede releasing fire.

"Whoa, that's a big bug," Ronnie Anne said surprised, before focusing back on the battle. "Alright Houndoom, return!" She said, calling back her Pokemon, before grabbing her new Dive Ball. "You're up Skrelp! Start with Water Pulse!"

"Use Defense Curl with Rollout!" Klara ordered.

As soon as Skrelp was out, she charged a large ball of water in front of her mouth. Centiskorch curled its long body into a ball and started to roll. The Mock Kelp Pokemon shot the orb of water hitting the Radiator Pokemon, but it kept moving. Centiskorch hit Skrelp and sent her flying, before turning around to get another hit.

"Quickly Skrelp, use Aqua Tail!" The young trainer shouted urgently.

Once Skrelp landed, she waited while her small tail glowed blue. Once Centiskorch was close, she swung her tail and hit it in the air like a ball.

"While it's in the air, use Gunk Shot!" Ronnie Anne shouted.

Skrelp nodded, before shooting a purple and black goo from her mouth, hitting the curled up Pokemon. When Centiskorch landed, it uncurled itself while looking unwell.

"You poisoned my Centiskorch!" Klara said with a bit of rage. "Grrr! You're just rubbing the fact I'm not the Poison Gym Leader in my face. Centiskorch use Scorching Sand!"

"Use Aqua Tail to protect yourself and try to get a Water Pulse off!" The Mexican-American trainer shouted.

Centiskorch then started to run in a circle, digging and kicking extremely hot sand at its opponent. Skrelp was charging a Water Pulse, while using Aqua Tail to protect herself. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to block all of it, occasionally getting hit by the sand. She then fired the Water Pulse, only for it to get blocked by the Scorching Sand.

"Try to throw it over the sand!" Ronnie Anne shouted in a desperate tone.

Skrelp nodded and tried again. She took some more hits charging the attack, before firing the attack. Only this time, she shot it upwards for it to arc over the sand. This time it avoided the sand and landed on Centiskorch's head, knocking it out.

"Centiskorch is unable to battle!" The referee announced. "The winner is Skrelp!" Ronnie Anne let out a sigh of relief, before celebrating. Skrelp let out a weak cry of victory. Clyde was cheering, but looked a little worried. Lynn was just smiling and clapping. Klara called back her Pokemon and got ready to send out her next Pokemon, looking a little upset.

"Go Lokix!" The Dark City Gym Leader shouted, sending out a black bipedal grasshopper.

"You need a rest Skrelp, return!" Ronnie Anne said, calling back her Pokemon, while grabbing another pokeball. "Come out Salazzle! Use Flamethrower!"

"Another Poison Type?! Is she mocking me?!" Klara muttered under her breath. "Use Rain Dance and Sucker Punch!" She shouted.

Dark clouds appeared high in the ceiling of the gym, the rain started to fall as Lokix danced. Salazzle released flames from her mouth, which was weakened from rain. Lokix took the, which still did a lot of damage, and got close and punched its opponent making her stagger back.

"Now hit it with Double Kick!" Klara shouted.

"Then let's use your new move, Dragon Pulse!" Ronnie Anne shouted.

Lokix got close and prepared to kick. However, Salazzle opened her mouth and let out a cry. As she did, an energy wave came from her mouth and sent Lokix flying back.

"Finished this with Venoshock!" The young trainer screamed.

Salazzle then shot a purple liquid from her mouth, hitting the standing up Lokix and knocked it out. As soon as it was knocked out, the rain stopped and clouds vanished.

"Lokix is unable to battle," the referee announced while holding their hand on Ronnie Anne's side up in the air. "Salazzle is the winner and Ronnie Anne has won the match." Ronnie Anne ran up to Salazzle and picked her up while celebrating. Clyde and Lynn stood up and started cheering loudly.

Klara called back her Pokemon with an angry frown, but quickly put on a fake cheerful smile. "Congratulations, you are a very skilled trainer," she said in an overly sweet tone, while walking up to her challenger. "For your hard work and for defeating me, I am proud to give you the Scorpion Badge." She then held out a badge that looked like a purple scorpion.

"Thanks," Ronnie Anne said happily, not noticing Klara's overly sweet tone. She took the badge and happily made her way to her companions.

"Now who's next?" Klara asked, still in that overly sweet tone.
