Chapter 46: Dark City Gym Battle Klara vs Clyde
"I am!" Clyde said, looking at the female Gym Leader.
"Alright then, come down so I can scan your license and then get the proper Pokemon," Klara said with a fake smile.
Clyde made his way down, high fiving Ronnie Anne as they passed. Klara went to the back to get the proper Pokemon, while he took his proper spot. Meanwhile, Ronnie Anne went to sit beside Lynn on the opposite side of Clyde's seat.
"So, do you feel better about that badge?" Lynn asked the young girl.
"Yeah, I do," Ronnie Anne replied, looking at her with a wide smile. "I feel like I actually earned this badge, not just given it."
"Glad to hear it, Ronnie Anne," Lynn said with a smile of her own, giving her a soft punch to the arm. This caused the young girl to blush and look away in embarrassment. "So Houndoom and Salazzle learned some new moves?" The older girl asked curiously.
"Yeah they did," Ronnie Anne replied, overcoming her embarrassment. "Houndoom learned Inferno not long after evolving. As for Salazzle's Dragon Pulse, she learned it when we were training away from you guys after the Mankey incident."
"Good, your team is getting stronger," Lynn said with a small smile, before looking to the battlefield. "Looks like they're about to begin." Ronnie Anne looked and saw Klara had returned.
"This is an official match between Klara of the Dark City Gym and Clyde McBride from Royal Woods." The referee's voice was loud, clear, and echoed throughout the building. "Both trainers will be able to use four Pokemon, with only the challenger being able to switch out Pokemon. The battle is over when all of someone's Pokemon is unable to battle or one forfeits. The match begins now."
"Time to shine, Swadloon!" Klara said, sending out a round yellow insect wrapped up in green leaves.
"Alright let's do this Misdreavus!" Clyde said, sending out the Ghost Pokemon. "Start things off with Psybeam!"
"Dodge it and then use Sunny Day! Then use Solar Beam!" Klara shouted.
Misdreavus' eyes glowed pink, before firing pink beams from them. Swadloon avoided the beams, before making a large yellow orb above its head. The orb then flew high up to the ceiling, lighting up the whole gym. Swadloon then glowed before shooting a white and golden beam from its mouth. Misdreavus tried to avoid it, but was hit by the attack and sent skidding across the battlefield.
"Misdreavus! Are you okay?!" Clyde asked worryingly. Misdreavus got back up and nodded. "Alright then, use Shadow Ball!"
"Use String Shot to dodge it and then use Payback!" Klara ordered with a smirk.
The Screech Pokemon charged and fired a Shadow Ball. Unfortunately, the Leaf-Wrapped Pokemon shot a thread from its mouth to dodge the attack. It then swung itself towards Misdreavus, while covered in dark energy. Swadloon then slammed into its opponent, sending Misdreavus flying again.
"Now finish this with another Payback!" Klara shouted happily.
"This isn't good!" Clyde said in a worried tone. "Misdreavus, use Destiny Bond!"
Swadloon charged at the Ghost Type again, coated in dark energy. Misdreavus got back to its feet, before a dark energy came off him and went to the Grass/Bug Pokemon. Swadloon then slammed into Misdreavus, knocking him out. However, Swadloon was then covered in dark energy, before fainting as well. The orb from the Sunny Day vanished as well.
"Both Pokemon are unable to continue!" the referee said. "This battle is a draw!" Clyde and Klara called back their Pokemon and prepared to send their next one.
"Come out Spidops!" Klara said, sending out a green and yellow bipedal spider.
"It's your turn Gloom!" Clyde said, sending out his starter. "Start things with Magical Leaf!"
"Use Sucker Punch and then Aerial Ace!" The pink hair Gym Leader ordered.
Before Gloom could get his attack off, Spidops got close and punched him. It then started jumping around him while hitting him. Gloom managed to get his attack off. Both got hit with each other's attacks, before both separated.
"Use Throat Chop!" Klara shouted.
"Use Poison Powder and then charge a Solar Beam!"
The Trap Pokemon nodded, before charging at its opponent. The Weed Pokemon released a large amount of purple powder around himself, before his flower started to glow. Spidops continued to charge forward, not caring about the powder. It then got close and about to hit Gloom. However, before it could hit him, Gloom pointed his flower at Spidops. Gloom shot his Solar Beam, just as Spidops hit with Throat Chop. An explosion happened, sending both Pokemon flying. Gloom had fainted, while Spidops slowly tried to stand. Just as it was just about to, it fainted as well.
"Both Pokemon are unable to continue," the referee said. "This battle is a draw." Clyde and Klara called back their Pokemon and prepared to send their next one.
"Dang it! Another double knock out?!" Ronnie Anne said worriedly with a frown.
"She's not holding back against Clyde," Lynn said with narrowed eyes. Her female student looked at her slightly confused. "With you I could tell she held back slightly, since you're a rookie trainer. However, she isn't doing the same for him."
"Why?!" The younger girl asked, feeling a little rage at the gym leader.
"I think we're about to find out," the older trainer replied, looking at Klara.
Clyde recalled Gloom and was about to grab his next pokeball. "I know the truth," Klara suddenly said to him nonchalantly.
"What do you mean?" Clyde asked her, confused.
"I know that Misty from the Cerulean Gym went easy on you," the Bug Gym Leader replied with slight anger. This surprised not only Clyde, but Lynn and Ronnie Anne in the seats as well. "All of us Gym Leaders knew, she didn't exactly hide it well. I heard someone from the league went to talk to her about that after your match. While the others didn't care that much, I can't stand someone getting special treatment! So I decided I'm going to make up for her mistake, by not holding back! I'm going to come at you as hard as I can, within the League regulations! You're up Yanmega!" She shouted, sending out a large green dragonfly.
Clyde was taken aback by this, but he then nodded with a determined expression. "That's fine with me! Come out Blissey!" He said with passion, sending out the Happiness Pokemon. "Start with Fire Punch!"
"Yanmega, use Ancient Power!" The Gym Leader shouted.
Yanmega's eyes glowed and ripped rocks from the ground, before throwing them at its opponent. Blissey charged forward with her fist covered in flames. She took the hit from the rocks, but shrugged it off. She then punched the Ogre Darner Pokemon, sending it flying back.
"Use Swift and Air Slash!" Klara commanded.
"Now hit it with a Thunder Punch!" The African-American trainer commanded.
Yanmega's eyes glowed again, before shooting small golden stars from them. It also started buzzing its wings faster, sending blades of air from them. Blissey charged electricity around her fist and charged again. She was getting hit by the two attacks, but forced her way forward. Once close enough, she punched Bug/Flying Pokemon. Again, Yanmega flew back, only this time its body was covered in electricity.
"Finish it with Ice Punch!" Clyde shouted with a smile.
Blissey nodded, before covering her fist with frost and mist. She then charged again and punched the stunned Yanmega, knocking it out.
"Yanmega is unable to battle!" The referee announced. "The winner is Blissey!" Clyde and a tired Blissey celebrated. Ronnie Anne started cheering, With Lynn smiling and clapping. Klara called back Yanmega and sent out her last Pokemon.
"Go Crustle!" Klara said, sending out an orange crab with a huge stone shell.
"That's enough Blissey, return," Clyde said, calling back his Pokemon. He then grabbed his new Sport Ball. "Come out Vaporeon!" He said, sending out his new Pokemon. "Let's start with Water Pulse!"
"Use Solar Blade!" Klara shouted.
One of Crustle's front claws started to glow white and yellow, as it made its way to its opponent. Vaporeon charged a large blue orb of water in front of her mouth, before firing it, hitting Crustle. However, the Stone Home Pokemon took the hit and kept going. It then hits Vaporeon with Solar Blade, sending her across the battlefield.
"Can you still battle Vaporeon," Clyde asked the Bubble Jet Pokemon. Vaporeon let out a weak cry, but nodded. "Okay, then let's use Scald!"
"Hit it with Shadow Claw!" Klara shouted.
Vaporeon sprayed scalding hot water from her mouth, hitting the Rock/Bug Pokemon. Crustle continued on and slashed at the Water Pokemon with a claw covered in black and purple energy. As Vaporeon flew back from the hit, Crustle stood still and let out a cry of pain.
"Crustle! What's wrong?!" Klara asked her Pokemon worryingly.
"Looks like it is burned from Vaporeon's Scald attack," Clyde answered, before looking at his own Pokemon. "Do you have enough strength for one more attack?" He asked. Vaporeon only gave a small nod. "Thanks girl, time to finish this with Hydro Pump!"
Vaporeon then opened her mouth and shot out a geyser of water. Crustle, who couldn't move from the burns, took the hit and flew across the battlefield. When the attack stopped, Crustle was knocked out.
"Crustle is unable to battle!" The referee announced while holding their hand on Clyde's side up in the air. "Vaporeon is the winner and Clyde has won the match!" Clyde ran and picked up the tired, exhausted, but happy Vaporeon and started to celebrate. Ronnie Anne and Lynn started cheering, with Ronnie Anne shouting and Lynn clapping.
Klara called back Crustle and sigh, before looking at her challenger and putting on a genuine smile. "Congratulations, you definitely have the skills and talent to earn this badge," she said in a sincere tone, while walking up to her challenger. "For your hard work and for defeating me, I am proud to give you the Scorpion Badge." She then held out a badge that looked like a purple scorpion.
"Thank you!" Clyde said happily, taking the badge from her. He looked at it briefly, before walking to his companions.
"Well, there's only one left," Klara said in a sweet tone, smirking at Lynn.
