Neon Senshi Evangelion

Twenty Four

"All right everyone, dinner!" Yui Ikari called out cheerfully from the kitchen of the large Ikari family apartment.

Rei calmly killed Misato in the fighting game. Again. "Coming," she answered.

"HOW do you do that?" Misato complained as they headed to the table.

"You tend to use the same combos," Rei noted mildly.

"I guess that makes sense," Misato conceded.

Once everyone was seated, all of them bent their heads and chanted, "Thanks for the food!"

Shinji and Gendo practically dove into their food, while Yui, Rei and Misato ate a bit slower.

"How's studying the bits from Israfel?" Misato asked Yui curiously.

"Odd," Yui admitted. "We still can't break down their biology..."

"But?" Rei guessed there was more.

"The biological systems of each 'half' are exact mirror images of each other," Yui noted.

"Ok, that's weird," Misato agreed.

"How would that even...?" Shinji paused in eating to wonder.

"Angels," Yui shrugged expressively.

"We really shouldn't just assume it's magic and drop it," Rei chided mildly.

"Point," Yui conceded willingly, "but as the saying goes, any sufficiently advanced science is equivalent to magic."

"Some day we'll actually understand fully what we're doing," Gendo also observed, "but for now, we're doing our best with fragmentary data."

"One of these days I would really like for us to know what we're doing," Misato sighed as she sipped her beer.

"We're working on it," Yui patted her arm.

Shinji waited until Rei was drinking from her juice to say, "Rei and Mana are having a LOT of study dates."

Rei nearly choked on her drink. "We are NOT dating," she growled.

"Too bad. Mana's cute, in a butch kinda way," Misato noted.

"MISATO," Rei groaned.

Yui and Gendo exchanged a thoughtful look.

"Don't start," Rei sighed.

"I was just going to say," Yui said mildly, "that if you DID bring Mana home as a partner, that'd be perfectly fine."

"But not until you're eighteen," Gendo added like a typical dad.

"Honey I'm home," Michiru called tiredly.

"Welcome back," Haruka handed her a half glass of wine.

Michiru took it and tossed it back in one gulp.

Haruka blinked, "Bad day?"

"I had forgotten how rough it can be teaching teenagers," Michiru admitted as she followed Haruka into the kitchen.

"I got take-out. No cooking," Haruka pointed to the containers.

"Oh thank goodness," Michiru sighed as they re-heated stuff.

They ate for abit, eventually pushing the containers away with satisfied sighs.

"I forgot to ask how your day was. Sorry," Michiru said sheepishly.

"Not bad," Haruka said thoughtfully, "the facility security itself is fine. The online security is a bit of a mix, thought."

"I would have thought with Naoko there...?" Michiru asked.

"Oh, Naoko's system and everything that's directly patched into Jet Alone itself is fine," Haruka noted, "it's just the rest of the system. It looks like they just went with whatever security that came with the computers."

"Which means they can stop a curious teenager, but a serious hack will get through," Michiru observed dryly.

"Pretty much," Haruka agreed.

"Is there a fix?" Michiru asked. She added, "I assume asking Naoko to do computer security would be bad?"

Haruka shuddered, "Naoko is a functional paranoid. She'd 'secure' the system so well we'd never get any work done."

Michiru patted her arm gently.

"We'll probably call in an outside expert," Haruka admitted. She finished her drink and stretched, "Enough about work."

"Are you going to take me to bed and ravage me?" Michiru batted her eyes.

"I was going to suggest a movie, but that works," Haruka grinned.

"Augh, I need brain bleach," Hotaru Tomoe complained as she met Mari

Mari looked amused as the younger woman asked, "What happened."

"I walked in on the in the act," Hotaru waved down a bartender.

"Ha! I would have filmed it," Mari teased.

"Pervert," Hotaru chuckled.

Completely unashamed, Mari just laughed. "How is it, keeping an eye on Misato and the pilots?" she asked quietly.

"Not bad," Hotaru reflected, "it's kinda fun running the arcade. I also think the head of their NERV security team likes me."

"I guess you DO interact alot. Is he cute?" Mari teased.

"She, actually," Hotaru admitted.

"Oh HO," Mari grinned. She added, "You realize once Haruka finds out she's going to go full 'protective daddy' right?"

"Ugh. Yeah," Hotaru made a face.

Mari laughed. She sipped her soda as she mused, "I need to get laid."

"Mari," Hotaru scolded.

"Hey, I have teenager hormones," Mari scowled. "It sucks even more going through it a second time, now..."

Hotaru nodded sympathetically. Mari had apparently regained all of Minako's memories, and fairly early too. Which gave her a reputation as erratic... rather, it was having the mind of a fifteen year old stuffed in a ten year old's head.

"Sorry," Hotaru offered mildly.

"It's not your fault," Mari sighed. She looked thoughtful, "No one's banging Shinji, right? Maybe I'll go after him."

"Setsuna would murder you," Hotaru joked.

"Spoil sports," Mari sighed.

"It's a date! A date! A DAAAAAAAAATE," Kodama Horaki sang to herself cheerfully.

"That is just SO wrong," Naoko noted, watching her coworker with dry amusement.

"It's taken so long to get Shingo to notice me," Kodama defended herself.

"You do realize you're in Shingo's direct chain of command," Naoko noted, "if things get serious, you should probably transfer."

"It's not like he's used his authority to get me in bed," Kodama noted.

"Still. Rules," Naoko shrugged.

"If it comes down to it, I could ask you to be my new boss," Kodama winked at Naoko. She shrugged, "Or Haruka-san over in security."

"Just don't try to seduce her. Her wife is impressive," Naoko noted.

"See you tomorrow," Kodama called as she hurried off.

"Good luck on your date," Naoko added. 'I must be getting soft,' she mused as she closed up her files and shut down the computer.

To be continued...

Notes: Do they ever canonly say how much Yui etc etc knew about the Angels? Other than the Dead Sea Scrolls, and tinkering with Lilith and Adam bits.

I'm (probably) not writing Sailor Moon reincarnation as it is in canon. Usagi kind of... talks to her past self. Sailor Pluto apparently over-writes her descendant since she seems to be still the same person after her 'rebirth.'
