Hello everyone!
I thought I'd try my hand at writing a Yu-Gi-Oh story, having recently gotten back into this series.
I always enjoyed this pairing since having watched the Anime, and now this idea is being made into a story.

Martha's House
A tall, mountain of a man approaches the orphanage in front of him. A look of serious determination can be seen on his face. Despite knowing exactly why he's here, he pauses before knocking on the front door of the place, to remind himself of what's so important. Closing his eyes, he remembers long, flowing blonde hair, and emerald-colored eyes. Eyes which would surely not approve of what he was about to do.
"Whoa, a giant!"
The man, Mizoguchi, opens his eyes. He apparently lost track of time, since the front door to this house is now open, and a few children are standing in the entrance, looking him up and down. Clearing his throat behind his fist, Mizoguchi asks, "Pardon me, children, is Martha here?"
Not knowing who exactly this man is, one boy decides to protect Martha, in his own way. "You want to see Mama Martha? Then you have to pay a fee!" The boy then holds his hand out, expecting something. Mizoguchi stares down at the small child, who is SEVERAL times smaller than him.
"Oh, don't mind them." The voice of the matron of the house makes itself known. Martha approaches, taking a moment to scold the boy for trying to rip people off, that's not what they do here at her house. After that, she then put her hands on her hips, cheerfully saying to the man before her, "Well, hello there handsome! My, you're a big one, aren't you?"
Staring wide-eyed at Martha, Mizoguchi could only stumble out, "I... um..." Caught off-guard by her greeting, he didn't know how to react. That made Martha laugh heartily, as he cleared his throat again, albeit flustered. A few of the children caught on, and were whispering some teasing comments.
"Well, don't just stand there, come on in!" Casually, Martha pulls the large man inside. Taking him to the dining area of the orphanage, she makes a pot of tea for their guest.
As Martha busies herself, Mizoguchi looks around the small orphanage. He certainly has a great deal of respect for Martha, helping raised orphans with little help. And since Yusei, Jack, and Crow grew up here, this was the place of humble beginnings for some of the best duelists in the area. "If Yusei grew up here, then..."
Martha sits down with Mizoguchi, giving him some of the tea she made. Not the fancy type that he's used to, but it'll do. "So," Martha started, "What can I help you with? Is this about Sherry?" Mrs. Leblanc's bodyguard blinked, surprised that Martha hit it right on the head. He then nodded, wondering though how she knew. This made Martha chuckle, "Isn't it always about a girl?" Mizoguchi had to agree. And he went on to explain the reason for his visit.
Being the guardian of the Leblanc's only child, it would only be natural that Mizoguchi would want to look out for the continuation of the family's line. But this is certainly something he couldn't discuss with Sherry herself, as he's not strong enough, or trained enough, to handle a discussion like this her. Martha chuckled, making Mizoguchi get embarrassed; a big, tough guy like him shying away from such a subject.
Martha then brought up the question of would Yusei and Sherry make a good couple? Mizoguchi then let it drop that there was something there between the two of them. After all, ever since everything's been resolved with her parents and Iliaster, there was plenty of opportunities for Sherry to leave Neo Domino City, and do whatever she wanted. While she may claim that she's been sticking around to help keep the city safe, out of appreciation to Yusei, there was more feelings than that involved. Sherry admired Yusei, and would often talk about him to Mizoguchi. To the point where there was an obvious attraction going on there, even if Sherry was too cautious to confess or make a move.
For Yusei, as far as Martha could tell, he wasn't dating anyone. She would know: she's still heavily involved in his life, and will just flat out ask him if he is, knowing he won't lie to her. It's also brought up that neither of the duelists are getting any younger. So now it's up to the not-parents of the two children they raised, to help them romantically.
"With all that being said," Mizoguchi then asked, "What do you suggest?"
Martha bluntly replied, "If you're expecting some grand, romantic gesture from my Yusei that will sweep Sherry off of her feet, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. He's not that type of guy."
"There's nothing that can be done then?"
"I didn't say that." Martha chuckled, "You just need to find something that they both like." She then had an idea brewing. "What unites you duelists?"
Mizoguchi blinked, knowing the answer, but failing to see how this applied to the situation. "Duels?"
"Right! Maybe get them to duel each other, and you'll see how quickly they bond over a common interest." Perhaps that could work, but it couldn't be just any ordinary, friendly duel. It had to be something special. But romance isn't Mizoguchi's area of expertise.
"Any ideas?"
Martha had a devious grin on her face. "I think I might know what we could do..."
- A little later -
"This is dangerous..."
But what choice did Mizoguchi have? He's back at the home he and Sherry share. Martha had sent him on a fetch quest. And now having successfully snuck into Sherry's bedroom, he's standing over the item he needs to retrieve. Carefully taking one final peek around, Mizoguchi shakily reaches out, and takes a card out of Sherry's deck. No sooner than he does-
*Bam!*
Sherry's bedroom door swings open, revealing an annoyed-looking Sherry standing there. "Mizoguchi, what are you doing?" A man of his stature trying to sneak around was never going to work out.
"W-well I-"
Sherry glared at him.
Attacking was out of the question, and Sherry was already standing in a way where she was ready with a counterattack anyway. However, just because she's learned most of her combat from Mizoguchi, doesn't mean he taught her everything he knows.
One smoke bomb later, Mizoguchi can be seen fleeing on his D-Wheel, with Sherry in hot pursuit. It was then a mistake for her to try and trap him in a Turbo Duel, as he had no intention of trying to win. Her guardian spent the whole duel dropping her Speed Counters, while raising his, to put as much distance between the two of them. Mizoguchi stalled long enough to finally reach the necessary destination, Martha's House.
Sherry was reaching out to grab Mizoguchi, but he threw the card he had taken from Sherry's deck, and threw it to the man who happened to be standing outside Martha's House: Yusei Fudo. Yusei had been asked to stop by Martha's, for an 'important' reason. "Catch, Yusei!"
Mr. Fudo looked down at the card in his hand. "Fleur De Chevalier?" Meanwhile, Mizoguchi can be seen being pushed toward Yusei by a rightly annoyed Sherry. Without missing a beat, Yusei hands Sherry's card back to her. "Here you go."
Sherry growls a "Merci", while glaring at a nervous Mizoguchi.
Yusei then chuckled. "Let me guess, Martha put you up to this?" Mizoguchi weakly nodded. Yusei figured as much, why else would Martha have contacted Yusei, and told him to be standing out here at this exact moment? Like a good boy, Yusei obeyed anyway.
"But I-" Mizoguchi tried to start, but was cut off.
"Zip it!" A curt, and frank reply from Sherry.
"Oh, don't blame him." The trio was then joined by the ringleader of this whole plot: Martha. "Mr. Mizoguchi just did as I asked."
"Martha," Yusei asked, "What's up with all of this?"
"You two kids have an obvious attraction to each other, and we were just helping you out." Yusei and Sherry gaped at Martha's bluntness. This made her laugh, "Don't make me force you two to admit it!"
Yusei muttered in reply, "It's a little late for that..."
Sherry though is even more annoyed, if that's possible. She won't direct her anger at Martha though. Closing her eyes, and with barely restrained rage, Sherry said through gritted teeth, "I do not need anyone interfering in my love life."
Martha reached out, putting her hand on Sherry's shoulder, "Oh, dear, you do. Give Yusei a chance."
"I'm right here, you know." As if anyone needed the reminder from Yusei. He then sighed, and apologized to Sherry about the whole ordeal, and setup. Surprisingly, Sherry also apologized, for Mizoguchi. Then something interesting happened: the two Duelists combined, to criticize their caretakers. Before long, they were having a back-and-forth conversation, albeit at Martha and Mizoguchi's expense.
Mizoguchi questioned, "Is something happening?"
Martha nodded triumphantly. All according to plan. But getting the Sherry and Yusei's attention, Martha then said, "But since you're both here, maybe you can help me with the children, since it's dinner time."
Missing the obvious bait, the duelists reluctantly agreed. Sherry had a final warning for Mizoguchi, as they turned to follow Martha and Yusei inside. "You and I will speak later."
Great?
- Later -
Martha introduced Sherry to all of the kids. This certainly was a new experience for Sherry. Initially, she was rather standoffish since she's normally not around children. But seeing how they were orphans, she couldn't help but feel affection for them, knowing how it can be not growing up with parents. Normally, this would be incredibly awkward for her, but Sherry soon found herself warming up to them. Many of them were in awe of her, especially the little girls there. Sherry felt an odd, swelling emotion in her when several of the girls would refer to her as "Big Sister."
And the boys? They would look her up and down and ask her, "Where do babies come from?"
Sherry frowned. "Why do I keep getting asked that?"
"Don't mind them." Sherry was 'rescued' by Yusei, who would start playing with the children, putting a couple of the boys in headlocks. Sherry would look on in awe, at how natural it was for Yusei to interact with these kids. She especially found it interesting watching Yusei pick a girl up, put her onto his shoulders, and run around with her. Many girls wanted their turn as well. Sherry's not one to have complicated feelings, but it was unavoidable here. Martha, watching the two of them off to the side with Mizoguchi, elbowed him in the side. Now everything was falling into place.
Martha soon put all three of their duelist guests to work, preparing everything for the group dinner. She assigned Yusei and Sherry to food prep. This gave the two of them some alone time. Sherry peeled potatoes and carrots, while Yusei flipped meat on the grill. But he had to come over to assist Sherry, since she's not used to this type of thing. Martha would keep checking up on the two of them, and never found them fighting or arguing; Sherry was grateful to Yusei for his help. Martha even caught a moment when the two of them were standing side by side, working together, and Sherry would tuck some of the strands of her hair behind her ear as she looked at Yusei. He told Sherry that he still comes by the orphanage often, spending time with the children. Which had a wonderful effect on her. Sherry's now afflicted with a heart palpitation problem that won't be going away anytime soon.
While the food wasn't what she was used to, Sherry certainly wasn't going to complain. She found herself enjoying the company of children, especially the girls who fought over who got to sit in her lap and eat with her. Mizoguchi watched on, a pleased smile on his face; maybe Sherry will go easier on him when they leave.
But before they do, when the meal is over, the kids have a request: they want to see a Turbo Duel. Normally this would be hard to do, since the area isn't really designed for such a thing, but the kids didn't seem to mind that Yusei and Sherry just drove around in circles. Their monsters and card effects could still be seen from wherever any child was standing. In the end, it ended in a draw. That was the optimal outcome, as the kids were divided in who they wanted to see win.
Afterwards, Martha floated the idea that maybe Sherry and Yusei should challenge each other again and again, until one of them actually wins, much to the joy of the children.
With it sealed in pinky-promises with the orphans, Sherry and Mizoguchi started to leave, but not before Sherry would take one last, lingering look back at Yusei, who was watching her as well.
Leave it up to the kids to figure out what was going on, and bust the pair out on it.
"Come back soon, Yusei's girlfriend!"
- Months later -
The pair have been dating for a few months now. That Turbo Duel, and the many more that inevitably followed, had them sharing a bond that they didn't realize could exist.
Yusei works as a scientist and researcher, working to help improve and advance not only Neo Domino City, but also Satellite. Yusei is credited with creating Fortune, a program to prevent Momentum from exploding. Among other scientific wonders. Yusei's also the type where if a machine breaks down, rather than call Maintenance up to fix it, he'll grab his own toolbox and handle things himself.
Sherry now works in Neo Domino City, as Head of Security at the lab Yusei works at. He was surprised when Sherry told him that she'd be around him often. Her reason? With a smirk on her face, "So that we can keep an eye on each other."
"Fair enough." A blonde bombshell like her walking around? She's certainly going to draw lots of attention. And attraction. But Sherry's not naive to believe that this is only on her part; a handsome man like Yusei will get all kinds of attention too. Not that they'd entertain the idea of letting anyone get in-between them, but might as well eliminate any brief idea of it from anyone. "But how am I supposed to focus on my work now?" He returned the smirk, with one of his own. Chuckling, Sherry pulled him in close to her, their lips separate by only the tiniest of distance.
"Work smarter, Monsieur Fudo, not harder."
- A few months later -
"Are you ready?"
Sherry, who is fretting over her wedding dress, looks behind her to see Mizoguchi standing at the entrance to the room she's in. With a quick, "Oui", Sherry finishes the final touch ups.
Mizoguchi let out a content sigh. Seeing Sherry wearing a beautiful, elegant, and luxurious white wedding dress, filled him with a feeling of satisfaction that would normally be reserved for a proud father with his daughter. But this is the next best thing.
Martha wasn't kidding when she said Yusei wasn't into big, romantic gestures. When he proposed to Sherry, it was at during a dinner they had together at a fancy French restaurant that had just happened to open in the city. Sherry said yes, all the Turbo Duels had made their bond just about as high as possible.
While Yusei couldn't be forced into a tuxedo during their dates, too stifling for his tastes, always instead opting to go with a blazer/dress pants and shirt combo, that all changes for this day. No way he's getting out of it now.
Getting rosy-cheeked, Sherry then says, "I believe I am ready now."
Mizoguchi does feel a great sense of accomplishment, having helped Sherry survive all the problems that came her way. And now, he's ready to hand her off to Yusei. Putting his hand on her shoulder, he reminds her of how proud of her he is. And her parents would be too.
A question then arises though, one that probably should have been addressed a while ago. "What will you do now?"
Mizoguchi chuckled, "I might finally do some traveling, and see the world, knowing that you'll be taken care of. After all, you might need the space for your growing family." He then laughs watching Sherry get flustered. But offering his arm, Mizoguchi leads Sherry off into her bright future, only pausing to stare at her in amazement when she gives him an affection kiss of appreciation.
- A year later -
Sherry lets out a pleased sigh, holding firmly onto the child napping on her chest. Mizoguchi had been right, after all. Running her fingers through her son's blonde hair she loses herself, and time, watching over the baby boy. These two are almost inseparable. A smile grows on Yusei's face at the scene of them. A flashback to when Sherry was pregnant shows that she warned Yusei that this would happen.
"Now Yusei, I should let you know that when our child is born, I may have a hard time letting him out of my sight."
He nodded, a smile on his face. "No problem." No way he was going to argue with his wife.
Normally, one would tell Sherry that she's overreacting a bit, but given her past, maybe it could be seen why she'd act this way. Throughout her pregnancy, Sherry would often spend time in front of a mirror, admiring her stomach, amazed at what would be eventually happening. And how far she's come. She's even got her teddy bear lined up, ready to pass it along to the next generation. While Sherry can't get back her previous family, at least now she's got the start of a new one.
And now, he's here: Samuel. Blondie, with blue eyes. It's amazing how such a small gift can have such a profound effect on the pair. While trying not to be too overbearing, Sherry's life seems completely wrapped up in the little bundle of joy. Which will soon be equaled with another joy that comes along eventually.
Mizoguchi, and many of the friends in their lives do stop by from time to time. While they can be a handful when they visit, Sherry has no problem reminding people of their place. Even Jack will refer to Sherry as "Madame", and not get into a rivalry every time with Crow over who the best uncle is. This is Mrs. Fudo's domain, and will not allow troublemakers to disturb the peace. Even if Samuel always gets a kick out of everyone's antics.
- A few years later -
"Daddy?"
When Yusei's alone in their garage, he's usually busy working on some kind of machine, trying to improve or fix it. Yusei and Sherry's daughter, Yuna, hesitantly approaches her father, normally not wanting to bother him when he's hard at work. Yusei sits back for a moment, to see who it is that called his name. Seeing his little girl, he smiles. Beckoning her to come over to him, he asks, "What is it?"
Feeling safe to continue, Yuna approaches her father, a sad look on her face. "My Duel Disk's not working, and I tried fixing it..." She then holds up her child-sized one. Not wanting to go with a typical pink one, the one she has is black, with matching colored Duel Board.
Giving a quick look-over, Yusei can immediately see what's wrong with it. Now, he could just fix it, and it would only take a few moments. However, he's got a better idea in mind. Picking Yuna up, and sitting her on his leg, Yusei then says, "Hmmm, this looks like it could be tricky." When she looks worried, Yusei smiles, "But why don't we figure this out together?"
Yuna, looking up at her father, emerald-colored eyes brightening, then happily chirps, "Okay!" The pair then talk about what to do. Yusei occasionally stares down fondly down at her, and her black, spiky hairstyle.
While Sherry and Yusei don't play favorites with either of their children, they are both special in their own ways. Samuel, the son that Yusei will be extra protective of so that he won't grow up without his parents; and Yuna, the daughter Sherry will make sure that doesn't have to go what she went through. It's great how that worked out; a similarity that they share.
Unbeknownst to either of them, a certain blond mom smirks slightly. She quietly closes the door to the garage, giving the father-daughter duo some time alone for bonding, while she goes to help Samuel with his combat and language skills.
Never a dull moment at the Fudo Household.
There we go!
This was initially meant to be shorter, but ideas just kept coming to me. Hopefully I didn't overdo it.
Hopefully you all enjoyed that.
