Elena, having just finished her afternoon summer class at David Geffen's School of Medicine, headed straight for the Toretto's Market and Cafe to start her shift so that Mia could go home and study for her own classes.
Just as she pulled up to the Market, she saw Vince shove a blonde haired man, who looked suspiciously familiar, against a red truck, and in retaliation, the blonde whirled around and punched Vince square in the face.
"What the hell is going on?"Elena wondered out loud.
The short haired brunette quickly got out of her car, slamming the door shut before she ran over to the two fighting men to get Vince away from the blonde. The last thing Dom needed was to deal with the Cops arresting Vince for assaulting someone and bailing him out.
She heard Mia yelling at Dom to get out and stop the duo from fighting but since it was obvious that he hadn't come out to stop said fight, she would do it. So, with her Werewolf Strength, she tried to pull Vince off, only for him to blindly shove her into the red truck.
Grunting, Elena stood up with a glare directed at the men, only to smirk when she saw Dom breaking up the fight by shoving the blonde into Vince's car while Vince was shoved behind the older man.
The blonde, realising who had pushed him onto Vince's car, got up off the car quickly, holding his hands up in a surrender gesture.
"Hey man, he was in my face."The blonde tried to defend himself.
"I'm in your face."Dom snapped back before pushing Vince away when he went to try and punch the blonde again."Relax! Don't push it! You embarrass me!"Dom yelled, pointing at Vince as Leon and Letty held him back.
"Get over there!"Leon snapped as he and Letty dragged Vince away, with Letty whispering threats of giving Vince an aneurysm.
"Jesse, give me the wallet."Dom said and Jesse picked up the fallen wallet, handing it to Dom."Brian Earl Spilner."Elena froze at the familiar, fake, name, and her eyes widened as she looked at the man in front of Dom, taking in his features."Sounds like a serial killer name. Is that what you are?"Brian glanced at the wallet being held out to him.
"No man."Brian said, watching Dom warily.
Dom pointed at Brian, causing the blonde to flinch."Don't come around here again."Brian took the wallet while watching as Dom turned and started to walk back to the store.
"Hey man, you know this is bullshit!"Brian called out to Dom and Elena groaned under her breath.
Dom turned around and walked back up to Brian."You work for Harry, right?"Dom asked, pointing at the truck.
"Yeah. I just started."Brian said, not seeing the point of the question.
"You were just fired."Dom snapped before walking back to his team with Brian watching, gobsmacked, before he walked back to his truck and drove away.
"Dom, don't!"Elena exclaimed as she followed the Werewolf back inside and he picked up the phone, dialing Harry's number.
"Yeah, Harry?"Dom said, placing a hand on Elena's chest and kept her at arms distance."That new kid you got workin' for you? Spilner?"Dom said knowingly."Yeah, get rid of him."Dom said before Harry said something."No, it's just that-"The Werewolf gently pushed Elena back when she tried to get the phone from him and walked into his office and shut the door and pulled the curtains down.
"Good going, Vince."Elena said, turning to Vince, who glowered back at her."I hope you're proud of yourself."
"Why the fuck do you care, Elena? He's bad news, I just know it."Vince stated questionably and everyone looked at her, waiting for an answer.
Elena scoffed and rolled her eyes."I care because if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here!"
"What's that suppose to mean?"Letty asked, frowning.
"That guy, he's my Best Friend, my Brother."Elena stated, causing everyone to freeze and look at her in disbelief.
"What?"Mia asked, confused.
"That was my Brother; Brian. The guy who helped me get out of my Home Town. That was him."Elena explained calmly to Mia, whose eyes widened, as did everyone else's eyes, and Vince winced when the short haired brunette turned back to him with a dark look on her face."Who you just got fired. Thanks, V."She snarled sarcastically before storming off."Sorry Mia, but I need to go and talk to Brian."She apologised over her shoulder to Mia, who waved off the apology, and headed back for her car.
"Hey, Diana."Elena greeted the girl behind the counter of Harry's Shop.
"S'up, Lena."Diana said, smiling warmly at Elena, who came over to the counter and leaned her elbows on the surface."What can I do for you today? Dom need another order of parts for his car?"
"Nah..."Elena trailed off, reaching up to move some of her hair behind her ear."I was hoping to find the newbie."
"Brian? I heard Harry talking to Dom over the phone, trying to convince him to let Brian keep his job."Diana stated questionably.
"Sounds about right."Elena said, grimacing slightly and Diana sighed, shaking her head before gesturing to the back room.
"He's in there, talking to Harry-My car topped out at a hundred and forty miles per hour this morning."Brian's voice caught their attention and they turned to watch as Brian headed straight for the gas tanks of NOS.
"Amateurs don't use Nitrous oxide."Harry retorted and Elena raised an eyebrow at that."I've seen the way you drive. You got a heavy foot."
"You bet he does, Harry."Elena suddenly said, drew their attention to her and Harry paled at seeing her standing by the counter, and she smirked at them."Although, I wouldn't call Brian an amateur."She added, looking directly at Brian with a steady gaze that he returned.
"E-Elena, hi."Harry greeted her weakly."What can I do for ya?"
"Other than to tell you not to fire Brian just because my Boyfriend is in a bad mood, I'd like to talk with him in private if you don't mind."Elena said calmly.
"Y-yeah, sure, sure, whatever you want, Elena."Harry hastily agreed.
Brian and Elena watched as Harry walked off before Elena looked back at Brian and nodded her head at the entrance, which she started to walk towards, knowing Brian would follow. Once they were outside, Elena leaned against the side of the red truck and stared at Brian with her arms crossed and raised an eyebrow at him as he stared back at her, completely relaxed before he suddenly chuckled.
"It's good to see you, Ellie."Brian said, grinning widely at Elena, who returned it with a wide smile.
"It's good to see you too, Bri..."Elena trailed off as she looked at Brian questionably."But, I gotta ask, Brother."Brian raised an eyebrow at her."In the last letter you sent me, you stated that you were in Miami, hitting up the beaches and racing scenes, making a name for yourself, so what are you doing in this part of LA...? and more importantly, why are you acting like an amateur street racer? and using your old alias?"She questioned him warily.
Brian sighed softly and glanced away from Elena."Shit hit the fan back in Miami, Ellie."Brian admitted, looking back at Elena, who suddenly had a look of concern in her eyes."I almost got arrested by the cops, so I'm trying to lay low."
"By being an amateur with a heavy foot?"Elena asked, frowning.
"Because I knew it would get your attention."Brian stated, suddenly looking tense.
"Ok, well, you've got my attention. The question is; why?"
"I know you want nothing to do with certain members of the Gilbert Family,"At the mention of the Gilbert name, Elena's eyes flashed yellow, showing the barely concealed rage and hatred that was locked deeply inside her heart towards the Humans who were suppose to love her, not use her as a means to an end."or Mystic Falls for that matter, but you have a right to know."
"A right to know what? You know I don't give a fuck about them, so why bring them up?"Elena practically snarled.
"My Mom called to tell me that Miranda and Grayson are dead."Brian said flatly."They died in a car accident a week ago."Elena froze, her eyes widening as she seemed to slowly process the information that was given to her."Katie was with them in the accident."Brian added softly, and Elena's breath hitched at the mention of Katie being in the car with Miranda and Grayson when the accident happened."She survived and was in a three day comma."
Elena relaxed at hearing that Katie was alive. Miranda and Grayson may have treated her badly, but Katie, her sweet and innocent little Katie-Cat, who adored and loved Elena, had been Elena's only light, and then, so had Jeremy when he had came into her life, even though she had only been in his life for a short time, she loved them both equally.
"I.. Thanks, Bri."Elena choked out, looking relieved and tired all at once."I gotta go. I, uh, gotta study, you know?"The brunette tried and obviously failed to make a proper excuse."See ya, around, yeah?"Brian just nodded, knowing that Elena would need time to properly process what he had told her, and watched her leave with a small, and weak smile.
"Don't do anything stupid, Ellie..."Brian muttered to himself under his breath before he went back to get the NOS from Harry.
That night, before Elena headed to the racing scene with the others, she sat in her car, staring at her phone with an unreadable look on her face before she dialed a number she knew off by heart and hit the call button, bringing the device up to her ear.
The caller picked up on the second ring."Hello?"Elena froze at hearing that familiar voice. A voice so much like her own, only more innocent sounding and gentler than her own."Hello...? Ok, I don't know who this is, but I will warn you right now that I am friends with the daughter of the local Sheriff, so if you don't-Katie-Cat..."Elena cut her off and heard Katie's sharp inhale of shock.
"E-Elena?"Katie asked in a shaky voice and Elena flinched at the raw emotions, of surprise and hope, behind the sound of hearing her own name leave Katie's lips.
"I just... Shit... Katie, I'm so sorry for leaving you, for leaving you and Jeremy... I know, I'm the worst, but I need you to know that I love you two so much."Elena said softly.
"Elena, where are you? Come home, please."Katie said, already begging for her Big Sister to come home instead of yelling at her for disappearing and suddenly calling as if she hadn't run away.
"I can't."Elena said softly."Please, forgive me, Katie, but I can't come home... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have called. Don't call me back."Elena said, trying to sound cold and harsh, but she felt as if she failed.
"Wait, no! Elena-!"The short haired brunette ended the call with the sound of her name ringing in her ears and she turned off her phone so that Katie wouldn't be able to call her back.
"Fuck!"Elena snarled, slamming her hands against the wheel out of anger before she banged her head lightly on the wheel."I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, Katie-Cat."Elena whispered as a single tear managed to escape and roll down her cheek in regret and self-loathing before she sat up straight, trying to pull herself together.
