Instead of heading straight to Mexico to meet up with Dom and the others like she wanted too, Elena headed to Mystic Falls, knowing that if her face was all over the world for being linked to the Hijackings in LA, it wouldn't be long before for the Supernatural came after her.
Or, if they found out about her former life in Mystic Falls, they would find out that she wasn't the only Doppelganger. Meaning that Katie could, possibly, be in danger.
So, Elena hightailed it back to her hometown, all the while ignoring the texts and missed calls on her burner phone, knowing fully well who they were from. As soon as Elena entered the town, she headed straight for the Forbes Household, instead of the Gilbert Household, hoping that Liz was at home and not down in the Station, even though she knew that no one from the Station would arrest her.
Getting out of the car, Elena, trying to act casual, walked up the stairs and rang the doorbell. It wasn't long before someone came and opened the door, and luckily for Elena, it was just person she wanted to see.
"Elena."Liz breathed out, eyes wide as she looked Elena over before surprising the brunette by grabbing her by the arm and dragging her inside and slamming the door shut."Are you crazy!?"She exclaimed, causing Elena's own eyes to widen in shock."Your face is all over the news right now! You shouldn't be here! You should be keeping a low profile... You should be in Mexico right now."The blonde haired woman said, frowning at Elena in disapproval.
Elena couldn't help but smile at Liz cheekily."I know."Elena said before she bowed her head."You must be so disappointed with me."She mumbled, not meeting Liz's gaze.
Liz Forbes may have been Elena's Best Friend's Mother and the Sheriff of Mystic Falls, but she had a soft spot for Elena, especially since she knew that her own Best Friend and said Best Friend's Husband had been terrible parents to her, but she had taken on a parenting role, with Jenna Sommers, when she came to visit the Family, in Elena's short life while she was in Mystic Falls.
Suddenly, gentle, motherly hands cupped Elena's face and made her look into familiar, loving, light brown eyes.
"Disappointed in you? Never. Upset though? Yes."Liz said, giving Elena a look."But overall, I'm just glad you're safe."She said, hugging Elena, who returned it and sagged in Liz's arms."But seriously, why are you here?"Liz asked again as soon as they pulled away and looked at her questionably.
"The reason I left in the first place."Elena stated.
"Grayson and Miranda?"Liz looked at her in confusion.
Elena shook her head."No, but they were part of the reason."Elena suddenly made a gesture to the living room."Can we sit?"She asked and Liz agreed to it."I think its time you knew the whole reason why I left, Liz."The blonde woman looked at her expectedly."You knew that Katie and I were adopted, right?"Liz nodded, and started to look suspicious at the way Elena had said the word;'Adopted'."Truth is, while Katie was legally adopted right after she was born, I wasn't because technically, there was no birth certificate, nor was I even born in a hospital since you know, I'm a Werewolf,"Elena shrugged."and from what I learned from my friends, some of the Werewolf Packs are still living in the woods, rather then being blending with modern society."
"Elena, are you saying that Miranda and Grayson kidnapped you when you were a toddler?"Liz asked, her eyes wide and looked a little pale.
"Not only that, but they killed my entire Pack and Birth Mother with the help of John and Katie's real Mother, who is actually my Aunt."
"Why would they do that?"
"Because in the Supernatural World, I'm what they call a Petrova Doppelganger, which is why Katie and I look like we could pass as Twins, even though I'm older than her."Elena stated."Apparently, we are a Supernatural Occurrence that is created by Nature to keep the Balance. We're the Double or rather, the Shadow Self, of one of our Ancestors..."Elena shrugged as Liz looked at her in disbelief."Anyway, as you know, Werewolves are bound by the Moon, and Vampires, by the Sun, right?"Liz nodded faintly."Well, the reason why both Supernatural Creatures are bound by the Moon and Sun is because, apparently, a Witch used a powerful Spell called; the Sun and Moon Curse, so that Werewolves would only be able to turn on the Full Moon and Vampires were weakened by the Sun, because a long time ago, Vampires could walk in sunlight freely and Werewolves could turn whenever they wanted."
Liz grimaced at this new information."What does this have to do with you and Katie?"
"To create the Spell, the Witch channeled her Power through the Full Moon, which is a typical Celestial Event, and she bound the Spell with two things. A very special Moonstone and the blood of a Petrova Doppelganger."Elena explained before she started to list the next part with her fingers."To break the Curse, you need a Witch, obviously, the Full Moon, the Moonstone, and the sacrifice of the Petrova Doppelganger. However, only one Supernatural being can break the Curse. If a Werewolf breaks it, they're free of the Moon, but if a Vampire breaks it, they're free of the Sun."
Liz stared at Elena, her eyes narrowed in thought."They kidnapped you so that you would be sacrificed by either Supernatural beings."Liz realised, looking horrified and Elena nodded."But Katie isn't even their real Daughter, so why would they do this?"Liz questioned her before wincing at her own question."I mean..."
"Because Katie, while she wasn't actually Miranda's and Grayson's real child, she was related to Grayson."Liz looked at her, shocked."Do you remember the girl that John"Elena grimaced."was dating during his High School?"
Liz nodded, although she was now shocked and confused."Yeah, I think her name was Isabella Flamming? She dropped out of School when she was either a Sophomore or a Junior?"
"Isobel Flemming."Elena corrected her and Liz shrugged."She dropped out because she got pregnant with John's kid, who just happened to be Katie... Isobel is also the same Aunt who killed my people and she personally killed my Mother..."Liz's jaw dropped.
"Your Aunt, killed her Sister, your Mother?"
"Yeah."
"So that, if somehow, the Supernatural World found out about you and Katie, they would have you sacrificed instead of Katie?"
"Yeah."Elena nodded."But it wouldn't work. I'm not Human. Not anymore, at least."
"Because you triggered your Werewolf Curse."Liz realised."Which is why Miranda and Grayson were furious when they found out that you killed that man in self defense."Elena nodded."And now that your face has been shown world wide, you're worried that someone will find out where exactly you lived as a child and use your Family against you, only they'll find out about Katie being a Petrova Doppelganger as well, so you came back here to protect Katie, instead of going to Mexico. But if you had decided to just go to Mexico instead, they won't have any need for you because they'll already have a Petrova Doppelganger."Liz realised and Elena nodded, not at all surprised that Liz had figured it out.
"That about sums it up."Elena stated."The cops won't call LAPD Authorities on me, right?"
"Honey, no one here believes you had any real involvement with what happened in LA, other than being associated with Mr. Toretto and his gang."Liz stated before crossing her arms and raised an eyebrow at Elena."What exactly was your relationship with them?"
Elena winced."I met Mia Toretto, Dom's little Sister in school. She and her Grandmother found out I was living alone, so they forced me to move in with them, then I met Dom, and we started dating when I was of legal age to date him, and of course, it was through Mia that I met Dom's friends."
Liz sighed softly and shook her head."I also heard about Brian being on the run as well. What's all that about? Is it somehow linked to Mr. Toretto?"She asked, slightly changing the subject.
"He got picked up by the cops in Miami, and they threatened him with Prison unless he works for them."Elena stated."I have no idea how many jobs he did for them before he came to LA and was trying too find out who was hijacking the trucks, but the cops suspected Dom, and they sent him in, thinking that he wouldn't care about the fact that his Best Friend was connected to Dom and used me against him."
Liz's eyes darkened at this."Fucking dirty cops."She spat, surprising Elena when she swore."Do you know where he is?"
Elena shook her head."Sorry, no, but before I escaped LA boarders, we managed to meet up on the road, and he told me that he let Dom go."Elena explained and Liz shook her head fondly.
"That sounds like my troublemaker of a Son."Liz said, surprising Elena again."I guess Mr. Toretto told him something that he agreed with and let him go... Of course there's also the fact that he must have known that you would never forgive him if he arrested Mr. Toretto."Elena blinked, raising an eyebrow."Don't give me that look. I saw the sparkle in your eyes just before when you talked about Mr. Toretto. You love him."
Elena blushed darkly."Yeah, I do."She admitted."Just as much as I wanted to follow Dom down to Mexico, I wanted to follow Brian too, to make sure he got away safely, but we both knew that I needed to come home to protect Katie."
"Understandable."Liz agreed."And I'm sure Brian and Mr. Toretto understand your need to protect Katie."She added, grabbing Elena's hand in hers."Have you been to see her and Jeremy?"Liz asked gently.
"Not yet. I thought it was best to come straight to you first, so that the others don't report me to you when they see me hanging around Katie."Elena quickly explained herself, thinking that Liz would go off at her for seeing her first and not her Siblings.
"Good call, sweetie."Liz said, giving her a proud look."But, now, I think you should go and see them. They really missed you."She added and Elena nodded, smiling back at her, although it didn't reach her eyes.
"I know. I called Katie after Brian told me what happened to Grayson and Miranda. She wanted me to come home."
"Well, as you know the old saying; Better late than never."Liz tried to joke and despite how bad it was, Elena laughed never the less."Now, go see and reconnect with your siblings and your favourite Aunt."Liz said as they stood up.
"As far as I'm concerned, and despite her being Miranda's Sister; Jenna's my one and only favourite Aunt."Elena said, smiling."It was great to see you, Liz."She added, giving Liz another hug.
"It was great to see you too, Elena."Liz said and kissed her on the cheek before seeing her out the door.
