A Day In The Life of Super Siblings
Set in Dark Knight Returns Universe
Metropolis: Clark Kent's Apartment
20 year old daughter of Clark Kent and Diana of Themyscira, Lara Kent, looked at herself in the mirror adjusting her glasses and she sighed.
"This is so stupid. I can't stand them!"
As a child she was hidden from man's world for her safety. Despite feeling dubious, her mother still tried to learn and teach more peaceful ways to overcome conflict, though, it seemed everything had gone in vain. Her father, however, felt more forbearing of the humans given he was raised by them. Her mother told her all the cruelties of man's world and Lara had grown to resent them all just as her mother did but yet, just as her mother, it was something within her heart that wouldn't let her stay away. Deep down she wanted to understand…she wanted to learn.
"You are just like Mother, you know, no matter how much you try to deny."
Lara glared into the mirror. "Shut up, Jonathan."
Jonathan Kent, 4 year old son of Clark Kent and Diana of Themyscira. A child of his own divinity.
"You should've stayed with Mother," Lara scoffed.
Jonathan tilted his head then turned upside down floating in the air. "Why? Mother and Father agreed I can be here with you."
"There's no difference from then and now."
"You mean when you had to stay on the Island? There is a difference. Mother and Father were fighting a war, Lara. They wanted to kill Mother and Father."
"Though, Mother and Father expect us to now be friends with them and protect them?! I refuse to bow down to those ants!" Lara's eyes blazed red.
"Calm down."
"Don't tell me what to do!" Lara grabbed Jonathan by the hood of his golden jacket turning him right side up.
"Lara, stop! Let me go!" Jonathan tried kicking away.
Lara threw him like a rag doll toward the wall but Jonathan stopped himself before hitting it. As he was about to fly out of her room, Lara stopped him.
"Jonathan, wait. I…I'm sorry, little brother." Lara sat on the bed. "I'm sorry I can't take care of you…I can't guide you. I don't know what to do for myself."
Jonathan flew to her and turned upside down again.
"I would like some ice cream," he said with a smile.
"Jonathan?"
"It will be a good day. I want to go out somewhere in the city before going to the island."
"Alright. Where?"
"Metropolis Mall."
"Jonathan, no!"
"Try not to step on any ants," he joked. "Be nice."
Lara rolled her eyes. "Let's go. But you know you can't do what you are doing now."
"Why not?"
"They will stare."
"So?"
"Jonathan, we don't need that kind of attention."
Jonathan turned right side up and floated down to the floor. Lara patted his head.
"Stop it," he frowned.
Lara smiled. "Boss baby."
Jonathan side eyed her. "Okay…no. No, don't do that."
Lara laughed. "Keep testing me, Jonathan. I'll smother you with niceness."
"Lara!" Jonathan whined. "Your niceness is so evil."
Lara winked. "Come along, little one. Father said to be in Amazonia later tonight."
"Will you speak with Mother?"
"I have to acknowledge the Queen."
"No. I mean will you actually speak with Mother. Speak the truth."
Lara rolled her eyes. "Jonathan, you don't know Mother as you think you do. She doesn't listen."
"She does, Lara. It is you who doesn't."
"Of course you are on her side! She treats you like a spoiled prince."
"And you a Princess next to be Queen. Mother wants what she believes is the best for us. But if you want something else…Mother will listen. You just need to stop being rude to her. You call me spoiled but you are the definition of a spoiled princess."
Lara rolled her eyes. "Stop being a smart ass and let's go."
Leaving out from the balcony, Lara and Jonathan flew off to the mall.
Lara sighed. "This is much better than going down there with the ants."
"I understand your sentiments, big sister, but we have to try."
Metropolis Mall
Lara and Jonathan flew down in the parking lot behind a large truck where no one could see them.
"Just as Father taught us," Jonathan said.
Lara adjusted her glasses once more before taking Jonathan's hand.
"If we are to blend in with them. It would be wise if you to act your age, Jonathan."
"Take your own advice, Lara."
Lara slightly squeezed Jonathan's hand.
"Alright! Alright! Stop being mean!"
Walking in, Lara's heart skipped a beat.
"There's so many of them," she said under her breath.
She looked around seeing the many families, groups of friends, children running around, couples holding hands, babies crying or asleep in strollers.
"Are you okay, Lara?"
"Hm. Yes. I…come on. We can at least look around I guess. But we are only here for ice cream."
Jonathan smiled to himself. He knew what his sister had gone through. This outside world's hostility towards super beings would not allow a child of the two most powerful beings to be free. But now, the world has changed to become a little more open, trusting, and accepting. That's what their parents did fight for after all.
They took note of all the different stores as they walked by.
"The smell is so strong!" Jonathan scrunched up his face walking by a perfume vendor.
"It's called perfume."
"What is it for?"
"It's when mortals want to smell more like a flower."
"Because they stink otherwise?"
"Sometimes they do. But Father said it's just an enhancement."
"Ah…I don't think we need any of that."
"It's a lot of things mortals have, we will never need."
Lara then stopped abruptly. Catching her eye was a long denim jacket trench coat with a red crop top and jeans to match on display.
Jonathan frowned and questioned. "Lara? What's wrong?"
"Nothing. Come on."
Jonathan frowned again looking back at the display. "Hm."
What caught Jonathan's eye was an electronics and supply store.
"Father has better material in his Fortress."
"Say, pretty girl! Come over here!"
Lara and Jonathan turned to see a group of five men.
"What?" Lara questioned.
"Come here. Let's talk."
Lara frowned. "Let's go, Jonathan."
"Hey wait!" The one who seemed as the leader ran up to be in front of Lara.
His followers weren't too far behind trying to corner Lara and Jonathan.
"I give you all one warning," Lara threatened.
"Calm down, Sweetheart. We only want to talk. I'm Blaze. That's your kid?"
"No, my brother."
"Ah, better. So how about we ditch the kid. Call your folks to pick'em up while we go have some fun."
"I don't think so."
"Why not? You look like you could use some fun."
As Blaze was about to reach for Lara, Jonathan kicked him in his shin.
"Ow! What the fu-" Blaze looked down at Jonathan. "You little brat!"
Lara grabbed his wrist. "Touch my brother, I'll break every damn bone your weak body."
"You little bitch!"
Lara began squeezing Blaze's wrist making him drop to his knees and winced in pain.
"Hey! Let-"
As another touched Lara's shoulder, she looked back at him with her eyes beginning to glow of red.
"Uh?" He quickly backed away from her.
"Let him go, Lara. None of them will do anything else."
"If you dare come up to anyone else like this again, I will hunt you all down like the animals you are!" Lara warned. She let Blaze go and grabbed Jonathan's hand pulling him along. "We need to get going."
Jonathan smirked and waved at the dumbfounded men.
"You did good, Lara."
She took a deep breath. "Ice cream and then we go…quickly before I do start knocking a few imbeciles' heads."
Jonathan smirked.
They walked to the food court amazed seeing an indoor merry-go-round, a small stage for live performances and countless of fast food establishments.
"Interesting. Even with mix of food smells, it all creates an ultimate smell of greatness. Much better than the perfume mixtures of earlier." Jonathan looked up at Lara. "You have to pick me up when we get to the person taking the order and giving them Father's credit card like he said."
"I know. This is the time I wish you could fly own your own."
Frosty's Ice Cream Shop
"Next!" The cashier said happily.
Lara sighed inwardly picking up Jonathan holding him on her hip as she walked to the counter to place her order.
"Hi! Aren't you a cutey!" She gushed over Jonathan. "Your hair color is so pretty!" she said to Lara.
Jonathan slightly tugged on Lara's ponytail.
Lara smiled. "Thank you."
"And what would you like to order?"
"2 sm-" Jonathan tugged her ponytail again. "1 me-" He tugged her ponytail again much to her aggravation. "1 large and 1 small cup of super frudge."
The cashier smiled. "Will that be all?"
"Yes. Thank you."
"That will be $18.96."
Lara gave her the credit card.
"Here you go. One moment."
"You are going to get enough of pulling my hair, Jonathan," Lara said under her breath.
"Do better to be social and say the right things and I won't have to."
"Here you go," the cashier smiled.
"Thank you," Lara smiled back.
Jonathan reached for the large cup.
Lara smiled awkwardly again grabbing the medium sized cup and quickly walked away. She went to the nearest table for them to seat.
Jonathan immediately dived into his large cup of ice cream making a mess all over his mouth.
Lara looked at him disgusted. "Slow down, you greedy little runt."
Jonathan stuck out his tongue.
Lara and Jonathan ate their ice cream still watch other shoppers' interactions. They then noticed a family similar to their own: Mother, Father, teenaged daughter and younger brother.
"I don't think we could be like that."
"No. Never. Especially not with Mother wanting to stay in Amazonia."
"I don't think Mother wants to stay anymore. I think she has been contemplating with Father for a while."
"Sure. I'll believe that when it actually happens."
A chorus of screams caused them to turn around. Crocodile Man, a humanoid crocodile from the planet Punkus, member and a loyal henchman of Mister Mind's Monster Society of Evil was terrorizing the shoppers.
"Where the hell did that thing come from?!"
"Don't know, don't care. It's time for us to send him to hell. Also, Jonathan, watch your tongue. You are too young to use those words."
"You aren't Mother, Lara."
"I'm still your guardian. What I say goes!"
"Whatever. Anyway, I'll take big, stupid and ugly. You get everyone out of the way."
"Fine."
Jonathan quickly flew off and hurled a blast of his nuclear vision at the mutant reptile. The reptile shrieked and turned its full attention to the pint sized half breed, its sharp teeth bared, its nostrils flaring.
"This thing will definitely be easy to beat."
"I don't always like playing with food but I'll take a fun size snack," Crocodile Man laughed.
He lowered his body, his large eyes never leaving Jonathan.
"What exactly was your motivation for wearing such a tacky looking suit."
"Oh, you're one of those cocky little pests?"
"Just asking…" Jonathan chuckled.
The reptile pounced at Jonathan, its claws out and ready to tear him apart. Jonathan quickly moved out of the way.
Jonathan sniggered. "Too slow, scales."
In an annoyed raged, Crocodile moved a bit fast this time to catch Jonathan and crashed into him hard, knocking him across the mall.
Jonathan caught himself before hitting the merry-go-round. He wanted to cause the least amount of damage.
"Jonathan?!" Lara called.
"I'm fine! Worried about those other kids over there!"
Lara turned her attention to 2 kids huddled in a corner.
"Mommy!" they cried.
"Let me go! I need to get my babies!"
The woman was being pushed further and further away from her kids by the rushing crowd.
Lara frowned. "Dammit." She rushed to the kids. "Hey, no more crying. Be brave."
"Who are you?"
"Doesn't matter."
Lara swooped the kids up and flew them to their mother.
The woman gasped. "Maddison! David!"
"Never let go of your young kids again," Lara said sternly.
The woman hugged her kids tight and nodded, "Thank you."
Lara rushed back off to help Jonathan.
"Wow! She's so cool! She's like Superman and Wonder Woman combined!" David said.
"Yes. Yes, she is."
"Jonathan! Stop messing around!"
"Come on, Lara! Just wanted a little fun."
"No time."
Crocodile was dumbfounded by this interaction between the super powered siblings.
"Fine. Fine." Jonathan sighed. "Sorry. But big sister says we can't play anymore. We have other pressing matters to attend to. This was a nice little exercise though after eating all that ice cream."
"I'm going to tear both of you apart!"
As Crocodile Man was charging at them, they suddenly disappeared.
"What?!"
"As I said…" Jonathan kicked him in his snout. "….you're just too…"
"…slow!" Lara appeared punching him down to the ground knocking him unconscious.
"Pft. Would like some kind of challenge." Jonathan pouted. "What do we do now? Can't leave this tacky thing here."
"Drop it off in Gotham City docking area. I'll contact Carrie to take it from there. She dealt with Killer Croc not that long ago so she can deal with this one."
Jonathan smirked. "Where has my sister gone? Actually being nice? Letting Kelley help out?"
Lara narrowed her eyes. "Shut up, pick up the nasty creature and let's go."
Meanwhile…Amazonia: Queen's Temple
Queen Diana was pulled back into bed by her husband, Kal-El. She turned and straddled him and threaded her fingers into his hair yanking him into a passionate kiss.
"From last night to the amount of times you've pulled me back to bed this morning makes me think you really do want to get me pregnant again."
Kal shrugged. "I mean…yeah… that's one thing but I'm more on the line of thinking of how I want more of my Queen." He gripped her hips roughly and leaned in attacking her neck.
Diana smiled. "Well…if you didn't lock yourself in that Fortress of yours for months and stayed here with me more often, you wouldn't feel like a starved beast. Although I do like this beastly side of you."
"Or you could stay with me and the kids…"
Diana suddenly pulled back looking deeply into his eyes.
"We've discussed that."
"Come on, Diana. Things have changed."
"Have they?" she frowned. "What about the walks of protests not that long ago. Your government is still the same. Those people shouldn't have had to do that and then be attacked and arrested for speaking up, trying to also maintain peace and respect. Isn't that part of their sacred constitution of freedom of speech?"
"That's something that will never really change but the people have. If I didn't see the change myself, I wouldn't let our kids be alone in Metropolis." He kissed her softly. "Lara really needs you, Diana."
"That girl doesn't need me. She doesn't listen at all and she's stubborn!"
"Hm? I wonder where she gets that from?" he teased.
Diana hit his shoulder. "Oh, shut up, Farmboy!"
Clark laughed a bit. "It's true. She becomes more and more like you everyday. I'm being serious now, Diana. Just think about it. I know that we had a tough time in our younger days and we sacrificed a lot but we need to show our kids better. Lara's childhood was just as rough having to hide her away. She's a young adult now that needs to know it's okay to be free." Clark caressed her cheek. "Isn't that what you've wanted?"
Diana took a deep breath. "When will the children arrive?"
"We have at least enough time for a few more rounds."
Diana slightly nodded and pulled him into another intense passionate kiss. Clark smirked against her lips and flipped her over to lay on her back. Diana pulled back slightly from their kiss raised her brow and flipped him back over.
"Don't be greedy, Farmboy. It's my turn, remember?"
Clark placed his hands under his head. "I'm your prize for the taking."
Her voice full of lust, "You got that right, Lover."
At the Gates of Amazonia
"Don't be nervous, Lara."
"What? I not nervous."
"Sure." Jonathan turned upside down and flew in front of her.
"Would you stop that!"
"Would you stop trembling. Mother is not angry with you."
"I know that. She disappointed."
"She's not that either."
The large gates opened and they were greeted by Amazon guards.
"Princess Lara, Prince Jonathan," they said in unison bowing.
"No need for that. Address us as just Lara and Jonathan," Lara ordered.
"Yes, Pr- Lara."
Lara nodded slightly.
The guards frowned a bit bewildered by Lara's demeanor. They watched as Lara and Jonathan flew off to the Queen's temple.
"She is Diana's daughter."
"The irony that Lara is the same way Diana was at her age and now Diana is beginning to be somewhat like the late Queen Hippolyta."
"Don't let Diana know that. That's the one thing she wouldn't agree to at all. She wanted to distant herself from Hippolyta's ways."
"Well she did wed that alien man with two offsprings with him and he is now welcomed here. I heard whispers she will decide whether or not she will go to man's world yet again with them."
"Hmm. Interesting. Well it is her choice. I'm sure whatever she chooses she will be sure to account for our well being as well."
"Yes, true."
Queen's Temple
As Diana exhaled, Clark wrapped his arms around her waist from behind and kissed her shoulder.
"Hey, calm down. They are just our kids."
"That's…why I have the feeling I have."
"It's okay. Just talk to her."
Lara and Jonathan entered the temple.
"Mother, Father… hello." They said in unison.
Clark smiled and hugged his daughter and son.
"You two look well."
"Yes. We are quite well, Father."
Jonathan looked at Diana. "Mother?" He flew to her and turned upside down then right side up. "Very elegant outside of your battle armor, Mother."
Diana caressed his cheek. "A bit different than what you were used to as a baby strapped on my back. My boy has grown."
"I would like to hear your singing later. I've longed to hear your voice."
Diana nodded slightly.
Clark gently patted Lara's shoulder. "How's Metropolis been for you?"
"Fine. I'm wearing my glasses more often."
"Are you okay with that? If not, you don't have to."
"I'm fine with them, Father. It gives me a…perspective as Jonathan has said, as you have had."
Clark smiled proudly and hugged his daughter. Lara tensed at first but then relaxed in her father's arms.
"I have missed you, Father. I want to be better with communicating and conveying my emotions with you."
"I've missed you, too. You've been doing a good job. It just takes time. The next step is speaking with your Ma."
Lara looked at him with worry in her eyes.
"It's okay," Clark assured with a gentle smile.
Lara nodded slightly and looked over to Diana. She took a deep breath and flew over to her.
"Jonathan, may I have a moment with Mother?"
"Yes, I have to speak with Father about some things I inquire knowledge of."
Jonathan flew back to Clark.
Lara took another deep breath and exhaled.
"I would…I would like to ask the Queen for forgiveness for our misunderstandings and miscommunications." She bowed her head.
Diana stepped closer to her and reached to raise her head up to look at her in her eyes.
"Not only a Princess but most importantly and first and foremost, a child of mine shall never lower her head. You were my daughter before I was Queen. You are still my daughter before I am Queen. You address me as your Mother and as your mother… I, too, ask for forgiveness."
Clark and Jonathan stared at them noticing how they were both slightly trembling from their nervousness, both trying to keep that strong stubborn Amazon wall up that was breaking down. Their facial expressions simultaneously softened and their eyes began to glistened of tears threatening to fall.
"Mother, I'd like to speak with you more often. I don't mean during training sessions."
Diana nodded. "I would like that as well." Diana then pulled her into an embrace. "My firstborn. My girl," she whispered.
Lara finally let a tear fall down her cheek as she embraced Diana.
"I can not reverse time. Only moving forward learning from past mistakes made can rectify those mistakes. I have so much for you to know. I want to teach you. But only if you want. I will not force anything upon you."
"I want to know, Mother. I have to understand what I should do to make my path more clearer"
"The first thing I can tell you now is to remain the strong warrior I know you are and always follow your heart."
Diana placed a soft kiss on Lara's forehead. She closed her eyes for a moment thinking back on when Lara was first born. The multitude of emotions she felt.
"Mother and Sister will be better now," Jonathan declared.
Clark quirked his brow. "If someone told me my son would have a very wise soul at only 4 years old, I wouldn't believe them. But then again, who would believe a man such as I came from another planet and can fly."
"A fair analysis. Lara and I were at the Metropolis mall. I believe her birthday will be soon. She took note of a new jacket. I would like to present her with that."
"We can do that."
"Also, I took note of a store that has scientific supplies. But they were not of quality material. I know that you have such things in the Fortress I am curious of."
Clark smiled proudly. "Sure thing, sport. I"ll tell you everything you need to know about Krypton as well."
"Sport?" Jonathan questioned.
"Jonathan," Clark corrected.
"No, I like the name. I have seen the interactions between fathers and their sons. Of course, we are not like them but in certain ways we can be and with an acknowledgment of name such as Sport, I like that way."
Clark chuckled and ruffled Jonathan's hair. "Alright, yeah."
Diana and Lara walked over to Clark and Jonathan.
"A feast has been prepared for your welcoming. We as a family have a lot to discuss." Diana took Clark's hand. "Especially with our change of living arrangements soon as I will be accompanying you back to Metropolis."
Jonathan and Lara looked at each other shocked. Jonathan then nudged Lara turning upside down.
"Told you."
Lara rolled her eyes and grabbed his hood turning him right side up. "Don't start, you little runt."
Jonathan stuck out his tongue and pulled Lara's ponytail for her to let his hood go.
"Ow!"
"Heh…" Jonathan snickered taking off out of the temple.
"You are going to pay, Jonathan! Get back here now!" Lara yelled going after him.
Clark chuckled. "Of all our troubles and slight dysfunctions. I think we've done a decent job."
"Well a bit of self awareness goes a long way. We aren't the perfect individuals nor or we the perfect parents. But, yes. We are decent enough with room to grow as a family."
"Makes me proud." Clark turned wrapping his arms around Diana's waist pulling her close. "Thank you, Diana."
"For what?"
"For giving this Farmboy a chance. You've given me two amazing unique children. Lara is becoming more comfortable within herself and mature. Jonathan is a little wildcard being wise for his age. It's unbelievable."
"Well I wouldn't bare the children of just any man. You have proven your worth of my love as a man of honor and devotion."
Suddenly, the temple shook violently.
"We should stop them before they destr-"
Diana pulled Clark into a rough passionate kiss.
"No, let them rough house as siblings do to get it out of their system." She smiled wickedly. "They are occupied now for us to have more fun of our own."
"As my Queen wishes." Clark smirked and captured her lips in a passionate kiss.
