Author's Introduction:
This originally started as a fluff-fic missing scene from the end of Prometheus Unbound where Vala tries to convince Daniel to let her escape and he delivers an homage to a completely different character and series that was supposed to go some way to explaining why our favourite Space Pirate returns at the beginning of season nine. Because, let's face it, Space Monkey didn't exactly give her much reason to come back in this ep.
But.
When I sat down to write it, I discovered that neither Daniel nor Vala wanted a fluff-fic, especially this early in their relationship. They wanted something Whumpier, insisting that if I was going to cap their first meeting with a homage to possibly the greatest love story ever televised, I had to rip their hearts out to do it.
(Seriously, if you're here and you haven't seen Farscape yet then I strongly suggest you at least try it. It's on YouTube. You'll love it. I can wait until you've watched the first episode. Trust me, a certain skit from 200 will make sooooo much more sense. You're welcome.)
Vala allowed me to sprinkle in a couple of extra Farscape references, and in return she demanded a follow-up fic. Daniel politely reminded me that of course he'd have done his research and that, as he'd kindly taken a back seat for this one, surely he should be next? Then Jack popped up and gave me his two cents… before I knew it the whole team was involved!
Then things got dark. So dark, I had to create an AU Darkest Timeline chapter in order to keep the main fic canon-compatible.
Thus, the Cockroach series was born (although I'm blaming Daniel for that one…he said it, the meanie). Frankly, at this stage, who knows how far I'll carry it on but I hope you enjoy this expansion of the established canon.
Here on , rather than split these series into it's component fics, I've chosen to post it under the series names so all the stories are contained in one place rather than scattered about with nothing linking them.
Disclaimer:
I own absolutely none of the rights to either the Stargate franchise or Farscape. They're both owned by people who are far cleverer than I. This work has been created for my own amusement (and hopefully other people's too) and I make absolutely no money from it. Please don't sue me.
