Kingdom Hearts III.5: A journey on Teyvat
Chapter 07: The Shadow Looming Over Mondstadt
The breeze gently blew over the walls of Mondstadt, brushing the faces of the two knights standing guard. Their names were Swan and Lawrence, the same knights who had welcomed Sora when he first arrived in Mondstadt. Swan gazed thoughtfully at the horizon with the city behind them. Feeling a bit uneasy, he broke the silence.
Swan: Do you think everything's alright with Captain Kaeya's group? They've been gone for a while. I hope they haven't run into trouble...
Lawrence, more experienced and laid-back, let out a light laugh and shrugged.
Lawrence: Don't worry. They're in good hands. With the captain leading them, there's nothing to be concerned about. That guy is as cunning as a fox. If something happens, he'll find a way out, like he always does.
Swan frowned, clearly less relaxed than his companion.
Swan: Maybe... But from what I've heard, they're dealing with some strange, dark creatures we've never even heard of before. Doesn't that sound... a little terrifying to you?
Lawrence glanced at him with amusement, shaking his head confidently.
Lawrence: Terrifying? Maybe. But you're forgetting who you're talking to. We're Mondstadt's elite knights. This isn't the first time we've faced the unknown, and it won't be the last. Honestly, with Captain Kaeya around, you should be reassured, not worried.
The younger knight hesitated for a moment before letting out a sigh.
Swan: Yeah, you're probably right... I guess I'm just worrying for nothing.
Silence fell again as the two knights resumed their watch, their eyes wandering across the sky. But suddenly, something caught Swan's attention. He squinted, trying to make out what he was seeing on the horizon.
Swan: Wait a second... What is that?
His companion slowly turned his head towards him, raising an eyebrow.
Lawrence: What are you on about now?
Swan pointed to the sky, his sharp gaze fixed on a dark shape approaching quickly.
Swan: There, in the sky. Don't you see it? Something's coming our way... and fast.
Lawrence shrugged, clearly skeptical.
Lawrence: Maybe your eyes are playing tricks on you, man. I don't see why anything would be flying toward us like that.
But as he squinted, he too saw the dark mass moving rapidly in their direction. It wasn't a trick of the eye. It was real.
Lawrence: Wait... What the heck is that...?
The dark silhouette drew closer and closer, its outlines becoming clearer. It wasn't a solitary creature but a swirling mass, made up of hundreds, maybe even thousands, of smaller entities. It was the Demon Tide, the entity Kaeya, Amber, and Diona had fought against. After leaving the battlefield, it was now hurtling straight toward Mondstadt. Swan's face fell as the enormity of what they were facing began to sink in.
Swan: By the Seven... What is that?!
For the first time, Lawrence showed signs of panic as well, his hands trembling slightly on the hilt of his sword.
Lawrence: I... I have no idea. I've never seen anything like this before...
Frightened, Swan looked to his companion for answers.
Swan: What do we do?! We have to do something!
His companion, despite the rising fear within him, tried to keep a level head.
Lawrence: We need to alert the Acting Grand Master immediately. If that thing... those things... keep coming, they'll swarm the city!
The young knight nodded vigorously, fully aware of the gravity of the situation.
Swan: You're right! I'll go right now!
Swan sprinted toward the Knights of Favonius headquarters, while his companion remained on the walls, watching in horror as the Demon Tide drew ever closer to Mondstadt.
Jean stood alone in her office, the open windows letting in a gentle breeze. The crackling of candles and the rustling of parchment were the only sounds disturbing the calm. Normally unflappable, the Acting Grand Master wore a faint shadow of concern on her face. She had sent Kaeya, her closest advisor and friend, with a team of knights to investigate and eliminate the mysterious Heartless that had recently attacked, injuring several people. Crossing her arms, her mind raced with worry.
Jean: I hope they're all safe... Kaeya knows what he's doing, and Sora seems to be a trustworthy ally. But... these creatures... No one truly knows where they come from or what they want...
She glanced at the day's reports on her desk but couldn't bring herself to read them. Her mind was too preoccupied. Mondstadt was peaceful for now, but she couldn't shake the fear that the Heartless threat would extend beyond this morning's incident. Closing her eyes for a moment, she hoped Kaeya and the others would return soon with good news.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway. The door to her office burst open, revealing Swan, breathless, his face pale and marked with urgency.
Swan: Acting Grand Master Jean! There's… there's something huge! A threat heading straight for Mondstadt!
Jean immediately straightened up, the worry that had been gnawing at her earlier now shifting into a palpable tension.
Jean: Swan?! Calm down and explain clearly what you saw. What are you talking about?
Swan took a deep breath, trying to steady himself.
Swan: Lawrence and I were on guard duty at the walls. And then, out of nowhere… this thing… this massive black swarm… it's heading right for us. It's… it's some kind of cloud of creatures, thousands, maybe tens of thousands, moving together in the air! We… we've never seen anything like it before!
Jean's heart tightened. A black swarm of creatures? There was no doubt—this was an extension of the Heartless threat Kaeya and the others were battling.
Jean: These unknown creatures we've been hearing about? They're Heartless. Are you sure about what you saw?
Swan nodded, the anxiety still clear on his face.
Swan: I… I'm sure, Acting Grand Master. Lawrence and I have never seen anything like it. A flying black tide… and it's coming straight for the city!
Jean stood silent for a moment, her thoughts racing. If this tide reached Mondstadt, it would be a disaster. She couldn't allow that to happen.
Jean: Alert all available knights! We must prepare to defend the city. There's no way Mondstadt will fall to these creatures.
Swan nodded firmly, ready to follow orders.
Swan: Yes, Acting Grand Master!
Before he could leave the room, Jean stopped him for a moment longer.
Jean: Swan, wait. Kaeya and his team… have you heard anything from them? Did they manage to push back those creatures?
Swan lowered his eyes, uncertain.
Swan: I don't know… but if that swarm is heading toward us, it might be because they had to retreat… or worse...
Jean's heart clenched at the thought, but she quickly pushed any trace of fear from her mind.
Jean: No. Kaeya is too clever to fall so easily. We need to focus on defending the city. Quickly! Gather the forces, I'll join you as soon as possible.
Swan straightened up, then dashed out of the room. Jean, left standing for a moment, gazed out at the horizon through the window. She knew she had to be strong for her knights, for Mondstadt, but the worry she felt for her friends—Kaeya, Amber, and even Sora—kept growing.
Jean: Kaeya, Amber, Sora… wherever you are, I hope nothing has happened to you… Mondstadt needs you…
She took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts, and stepped out of her office, ready to take the necessary steps to protect the city.
(Genshin Impact OST - Perilous Path)
The small marketplace of Mondstadt, usually filled with laughter and cheerful conversations, was now buzzing with nervous energy. Jean, at the forefront of coordinating the knights, was giving clear and precise orders. The soldiers, alert and serious, worked hard to protect the civilians and barricade key areas of the city. Families gathered near their homes, while merchants hurried to close their stalls, casting worried glances toward the city walls.
Jean observed the scene closely, making sure that each unit was in its assigned place, ready to act in case of an attack. Despite the tense atmosphere, she maintained an impressive calm, inspiring confidence in her knights.
A group of concerned civilians approached one of the knights.
Civilian 1: What's going on? Why are there so many knights in the streets?
Civilian 2: Is Mondstadt in danger?
The knight facing them tried to reassure them, though his expression betrayed the gravity of the situation. The threat was real.
Knight: Don't worry. We have everything under control. Stay inside and don't come out, no matter what happens.
Meanwhile, Lisa, the scholarly mage and Jean's close friend, arrived at the square. Her violet eyes sparkled with a mix of curiosity and caution.
Lisa: Jean, I see things are... a bit lively. I've heard there's a rather unique threat looming over Mondstadt.
Jean, though tense, gave her a welcoming smile.
Jean: Lisa... You've arrived just in time. Things are more serious than we expected.
Lisa stepped closer, her eyes narrowing slightly with intrigue.
Lisa: I've heard... Mysterious creatures are about to invade Mondstadt. Can you tell me exactly what's going on?
Jean nodded and turned slightly toward her friend to explain the situation.
Jean: Earlier today, black creatures appeared on the outskirts of Mondstadt. They attacked several knights, causing injuries. These creatures are called Heartless. What's more, Sora seems to know about them. He decided to face them to protect the city.
Lisa raised an eyebrow, surprised by this information.
Lisa: Heartless, you say? I've never heard of them before. And you're telling me Sora went to fight them? He just arrived today, and now he's already battling to protect the city…
Jean nodded again, continuing her story.
Jean: Yes. We didn't know what awaited us, but it seems Sora knows more about this threat than anyone here. He volunteered to confront the Heartless, and Amber accompanied him. Shortly after, I sent Kaeya and a group of knights to support them. But now...
She pointed toward the ramparts on the horizon.
Jean: ...a massive black Tide, composed of these creatures, is heading our way. It's a threat far greater than we anticipated.
Lisa, usually calm and cheerful, allowed a glimmer of seriousness to show in her eyes.
Lisa: I didn't expect things to take such a turn. To think the city has only just recovered from the Stormterror crisis...
Jean: Don't remind me. We're doing everything we can to protect the civilians and prepare the city's defenses. But... we don't know exactly how to stop this tide.
Lisa sighed softly, then placed a comforting hand on Jean's shoulder.
Lisa: Well, it seems our new friend Sora is proving to be more useful than expected. I have to admit, I didn't think he'd find himself in the thick of a battle to protect us so quickly.
Jean managed a smile despite the tension.
Jean: We couldn't have known. But from what I understand, he has a deeper knowledge of this threat. For now, all we can do is trust him.
Lisa nodded, her eyes sparkling with amusement mixed with admiration.
Lisa: Well, if he manages to save our city, I think we should consider giving him a well-deserved reward. Maybe a little surprise concocted by yours truly...
Jean looked at her with a broader smile, feeling a bit of lightness return despite the situation.
Jean: I agree. He definitely deserves something special for his contribution.
But the moment of respite was brief. Another knight ran up to inform Jean.
Knight: Grand Master! The Tide is approaching the walls quickly. It will be here in a few minutes!
Jean turned to Lisa, her eyes filled with determination.
Jean: It's time. Let's go. We must protect Mondstadt, no matter what.
Lisa nodded, her eyes hardening at the thought of the upcoming battle.
Lisa: I'm ready.
Jean raised her sword in a symbolic gathering gesture.
Jean: For Mondstadt!
The knights, gathered around her, fervently echoed the rallying cry. The sky above Mondstadt was still calm, but Jean felt in her heart that this tranquility would not last.
And at that moment, the dreaded moment arrived. The calm was abruptly interrupted by a scream from the vanguard. A knight, out of breath, ran toward them, his face pale and trembling.
Knight: They're coming! It's... it's massive! A tide of creatures... We've never seen anything like it!
Jean straightened up, her heart racing, while Lisa exchanged a serious look with her. Before they could react, a scream of terror erupted among the soldiers on the front lines, followed by a deafening noise, like an enraged roar from the sky.
And then, suddenly, the attack.
(Kingdom Hearts III OST - Wave of Darkness I)
The Demon Tide, a true black tornado composed of thousands of Shadows, struck with ferocity. The knights at the front were swept away like leaves caught in a storm. Bodies were thrown back, and some of the weaker ones dropped their weapons, terrified by the overwhelming force of the enemy.
Jean: Everyone, hold your position! Don't let fear overwhelm you!
But even Jean, accustomed to commanding in crisis situations, felt her heart tighten. Before her, the Demon Tide formed an almost living, crawling entity, moving like a titanic serpent. The Shadows that made it up seemed to constantly assemble and disassemble, a dark, swirling wave that swallowed everything in its path.
Lisa, momentarily frozen, showed a concern in her eyes that she had never displayed before.
Lisa: By the Archons... I've never seen anything like this. It's... monstrous.
The knights who had held firm until now were now paralyzed by fear, some instinctively retreating as the entity seemed to watch them, or at least that's how it appeared. The thousands of yellow eyes of the Shadows seemed fixed on each of them.
Jean forced herself to regain her composure, raising her sword to rally her men.
Jean: Everyone, with me! We must push them back, at all costs!
But even her words, filled with authority, could not fully dispel the terror that engulfed the battlefield. The creatures, moving with unsettling fluidity, spread out like a devastating tide, getting closer and closer to the center of the city. Jean knew that every second counted, but she had never seen an enemy like this. How could one fight such a horde, a mass that seemed infinite, shifting, and elusive?
Lisa: Jean... We won't be able to stop them this way. These things are not made of flesh and blood. We need to think differently.
Jean: You're right. But what can we do? There are too many of them...
The Shadows began to dangerously approach the ramparts, their grotesque forms moving like a living tide, effortlessly scaling the walls with unsettling ease. With each passing moment, their numbers grew. Jean gritted her teeth, trying to think of a solution, but the sight of this enormous entity almost paralyzed her.
Lisa: We'll find a way. Trust me. But I think it's time to hope for some divine assistance.
Jean nodded, her face hardening under the pressure. As a new wave of creatures prepared to crash down on the knights, Jean raised her sword once more, her heart pounding fiercely. She and Lisa stood in the center of the marketplace, ready to face this wave of ever-shifting Shadows.
Jean, brandishing her sword in front of her, felt the energy of her Anemo Vision pulse through her veins. The air around her began to swirl, lifting gusts that started to surround her blade like a vortex.
She plunged into the fray, her sword shimmering with an emerald glow. With a powerful shout, she cleaved the air in front of her, creating a wave of wind that swept away a group of Shadows, disintegrating them into a black rain of dark energy particles. But no sooner had those creatures disappeared than others surged from the depths of the Tide, tireless.
Jean: There are too many of them... But I won't let them through.
She pivoted her sword, creating a new whirlwind that pushed back the Shadows trying to surround her. Each strike released gusts that slammed the creatures against the walls, but the Tide seemed inexhaustible. Jean had to maintain constant vigilance, nimbly dodging the sneaky assaults of the entity.
Not far from her, Lisa, calm and focused, had summoned lightning with her Electro Vision. Her hands crackled with purple electric arcs, crackling in the air around her. Holding a catalyst in her hand, she channeled a surge of energy that struck a group of Shadows, reducing them to ashes in a flash of electrifying light.
Jean: Lisa, we have to protect them! These civilians are defenseless!
Lisa, eyes half-closed, focused her power while unleashing an electric wave that paralyzed a group of creatures dangerously approaching a family.
Lisa: We can't be everywhere at once, Jean... They're too many.
At that moment, the Demon Tide, taking advantage of the temporary disorganization, regrouped and launched a new massive offensive. It headed straight for a group of civilians trapped in an alley, their escape blocked by the Shadows crawling like hungry beasts.
Jean felt a cold sweat trickle down her spine.
Jean: No... They're going to be overwhelmed...
She tried to charge forward, raising her sword to summon a protective wind, but she knew she wouldn't make it in time. The Shadows were closing in quickly, and terror was evident on the faces of the townsfolk.
Suddenly, a flash of light tore through the darkness. Something—or rather someone—dove from the sky at a dizzying speed, crashing violently amid the creatures. A powerful wave of light spread from the point of impact, disorienting the Demon Tide and scattering the Shadows like leaves in the wind. The residents, stunned, looked up at their mysterious savior. Lisa, surprised, squinted to see better.
Lisa: What the...?
The dull sound of a second impact echoed, this time accompanied by a powerful gust of wind that swept away the remaining Shadows. Jean and Lisa froze for a moment, astonished by the sudden attack and its effectiveness.
Jean: Who...?
The two women looked up at the sky, their gazes landing on a figure silhouetted against the twilight glow. Sora, the young boy with spiky brown hair, floated in the air. He smiled as he gently landed on the ground, his feet touching the earth without a sound.
(Kingdom Hearts OST - Hand in Hand)
Sora: This time, I made it just in time.
Suddenly, two familiar voices called out to him. Jean and Lisa rushed toward him, relieved to see him safe and sound.
Lisa: Well, you made quite the entrance.
Sora: Thanks, believe it or not, it was a huge gust of wind that helped me fly quickly toward Mondstadt.
Lisa: Ha ha, I can believe that. Our region is all about the wind, after all.
Jean: Sora... I'm so glad to see you.
Sora nodded, still smiling, before asking with a hint of concern.
Sora: Are you both okay? You didn't get hurt?
Lisa: We're fine. In fact, we're feeling much better now that you're here.
Jean, her eyes shining, placed a hand on his shoulder, grateful.
Jean: I heard about how you helped save some knights and wanted to protect our region. Thank you, Sora. I truly appreciate what you're doing.
Sora gave a modest smile, shaking his head slightly.
Sora: It would have been a lot harder if I didn't have Amber and Kaeya by my side. I have to thank you for sending them.
Upon hearing this, Jean let out a sigh of relief, a heavy tension leaving her body.
Jean: So Kaeya and Amber are safe, then... I'm glad to know that.
Before Jean could add anything else, Lisa, ever pragmatic, asked a question with a smirk.
Lisa: So, tell us, you came to deal with this thing?
Sora nodded. He was determined, and his gaze fell on the Tide.
Sora: Yes. My goal is to defeat the Demon Tide. To be honest, I was fighting it alongside Kaeya, Amber, and Diona. It suddenly took off and decided to wreak havoc toward Mondstadt. I couldn't let it cause any more trouble! Fortunately, I didn't come alone.
Jean, intrigued, turned to him, curious about who was with him.
Jean: Who's with you?
At that moment, another figure descended from the skies to land near Sora. Jean and Lisa exchanged glances, eyebrows raised in surprise as Aether gracefully touched down beside Sora.
Lisa: Ara... it's my little cutie.
Jean, surprised but relieved, stepped closer to the young traveler.
Jean: Aether... You're here. Are you alright?
Aether: Yes, I'm fine, Jean. I discovered these creatures, the Heartless, not long ago. I wanted to warn you, but they had already spread chaos in Springvale. I got involved to eliminate them with Sora, Kaeya, and Amber. When I learned that Mondstadt was in danger, I couldn't stay away. I'm here to help Sora protect the city.
Aether's calm and assured tone warmed Jean's heart. She suddenly felt much lighter, as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
Jean: Thank you... Thank you both. I don't know how I could ever repay your incredible kindness.
Lisa, ever perceptive, flashed a sly smile.
Lisa: Oh, don't worry, Jean. We'll find a way to thank them. But for now... we have other priorities.
Jean nodded, realizing that the situation was not yet resolved. The Demon Tide, although temporarily weakened, was beginning to reform, its dark energy concentrating again for another attack. The shadows swirled, ready to surge over the city.
Sora: As long as that thing exists, Mondstadt is in danger. We need to end this.
Aether: Then let's exterminate it as quickly as possible.
Jean: Alright. I won't rest until this threat is eliminated.
Lisa nodded toward the Tide, her catalyst crackling with electro energy.
Lisa: This might be our last chance to strike hard before it strengthens. Let's give it everything we've got.
Jean raised her sword, invoking her Anemo Vision to unleash fierce gusts of wind. Aether stood beside her, ready to fight with the same elemental energy. Sora, focused, gripped his Keyblade, surrounded by the luminous aura characteristic of his powers. The four of them were ready to face the Tide once more, this time with the hope of bringing it to a definitive end.
As they prepared to attack, Jean cast one last look at her companions, grateful for their presence.
Jean: Let's go! For Mondstadt. For our freedom. We will put an end to this threat, together!
(Genshin Impact OST - Charge! Fearless Warriors)
Without a word, the group charged toward the Tide, each unleashing their talents to push back the entity. Lisa's lightning strikes hit with precision, while Jean's Anemo winds swept away the Shadows in their path. Aether and Sora struck with deadly accuracy, their synchronized attacks making the Tide tremble under their combined might.
The townspeople watching from a distance were filled with hope. For the first time since the assault began, they believed in a victory. Jean, Lisa, Sora, and Aether were not only their shield but the embodiment of their hope.
Sora stood at the front, his Keyblade in hand. With a shout, he lunged toward the Tide, striking with all his strength. Each swing of his sword glimmered with a golden light, tearing through the dark matter of the Shadows that composed the monstrous entity. With every impact, a wave of luminous energy spread out, disorienting the black mass that attempted to retaliate.
Beside him, Aether charged in, using his Anemo element to create sharp gusts of wind that cut through the Shadows. His movements were quick and precise, each sweep of his sword lifting miniature tornadoes that carried away pieces of the Tide. With fluidity, Aether summoned vortices that engulfed creatures before dispersing them into shards of dark energy.
Meanwhile, Jean, armed with her sword and Anemo Vision, directed the winds with exceptional skill. She swept away a swarm of Shadows trying to encircle them, creating a protective wall of wind. Her sword glimmered with a green light as she concentrated her energy on a powerful attack.
Jean: Wind, hear me!
She plunged her sword into the ground, unleashing a cyclone of energy that erupted into a column of wind, scattering the Shadows over a wide area. The shockwave propelled the creatures backward while inflicting wind damage. This whirlwind of energy, fearsome for their enemies, proved beneficial for their allies. Within this field of wind, Sora and Aether moved with ease, feeling their strength return and their wounds heal. It was exactly what they needed to continue their frontal assaults with renewed vigor.
Nearby, Lisa stood back, but her role was no less crucial. Her hands sparkled with Electro energy, and her catalyst levitated beside her, charged with electricity. She summoned powerful electric discharges that struck the Tide with blinding precision, paralyzing and disintegrating the creatures upon contact. With a playful smile amidst the chaos, Lisa remarked,
Lisa: You're in for a little shock.
With a flick of her wrist, she sent a series of lightning bolts crashing down upon the Tide. The sparks crackled through the air, branching out and striking multiple Shadows at once, reducing them to flashes of light. The Shadows retaliated, rising into a massive wave, attempting to engulf the four heroes under their dark mass.
Despite being attacked from all sides, the Tide did not falter. It countered with brutal force, swirling around before launching a swarm of Shadows toward the fighters like homing torpedoes. In the face of this onslaught, Sora, Aether, and Jean raised their swords, slicing through as many Shadows as they could to protect themselves.
Lisa, on the other hand, had to rely on evasion, lacking a sharp weapon for direct defense. The Shadows relentlessly harassed her, starting to wear her down as she prepared her next attack. Sensing the critical situation, Sora leaped forward with lightning speed, his sword glowing with a powerful light.
Sora: Lisa, watch out!
He sliced through the Shadows in a flash, just before they could reach the magician. Lisa shot a quick glance at Sora, a mischievous smile on her lips, winking at him.
Lisa: Thanks, my hero~.
The Shadows kept returning, regenerating at a terrifying speed, forming a living storm around them. It was as if the Demon Tide was adapting to each blow, becoming more aggressive, faster. The four fighters found themselves cornered, but their determination remained unshakable.
Jean: This is exhausting… No matter how many times we strike, it doesn't weaken. This thing can't be invincible...
Suddenly, the Tide seemed to condense, gathering all the Shadows that had dispersed during the previous attack and rising into the sky. Its dark forms twisted in spirals, climbing higher and higher until it hovered above the grand plaza of Mondstadt, where the majestic statue of the Anemo Archon stood. Behind it, the imposing cathedral loomed, a refuge for many civilians who had fled the horrors of the invasion.
Jean, breathing heavily, watched as the Tide headed toward this strategic point. A cold shiver ran down her spine.
Jean: The cathedral... Oh no! There are civilians sheltering in there!
Sora and Aether, already on high alert, exchanged a knowing glance and began to run at an impressive speed, driven by unwavering determination. With a leap, they could already navigate the upper levels of the city one after another. Behind them, Jean and Lisa, though energetic, couldn't match the agility of the two young warriors. However, they followed closely, their hearts racing.
The streets of Mondstadt were plunged into chaos. Terrified residents sought refuge behind houses or overturned stalls. The Tide loomed above them, casting its sinister shadow over the city. With each movement, it left behind a palpable wave of fear. Whispers of dread echoed through the deserted streets, interrupted only by the cries of children and the shouts of knights attempting to protect the population.
In one of the upper levels of the city, two silhouettes, a man and a woman, watched the scene unfold. Mikhail and Lyudmila, two diplomats from the Fatui on a discreet mission in Mondstadt, stood helplessly as they witnessed this supernatural appearance. Lyudmila, visibly disturbed, squinted her eyes, trying to comprehend what they were seeing.
Lyudmila: What is that thing...?
Mikhail, more pragmatic, stood back, his sharp eyes not only tracking the Demon Tide but also the two young boys running with unsettling speed behind it. One of them, Aether, was not unfamiliar. He had seen him before during confrontations with their superior, La Signora.
Mikhail: It's the Traveler... and it looks like he's accompanied by another boy.
Intrigued, Lyudmila turned her head toward him, her lips tightening into a worried frown.
Lyudmila: What should we do? Just stand by and watch?
Mikhail remained calm, his eyes following the Tide's path.
Mikhail: For now, we need to report this to Lady Signora. She must be informed about what's happening here... and the power we've just witnessed.
Lyudmila cast one last glance at the scene, her mind overflowing with questions, but she nodded silently. They turned to leave the area, leaving the looming battle behind them.
Meanwhile, Sora and Aether raced through the streets of Mondstadt, leaping over debris and scaling walls with impressive agility. Their goal was clear: reach the square before the Demon Tide attacked the refugees hiding in the cathedral. Their feet pounded the pavement at incredible speed, the wind whipping against their faces.
Aether: We have to stop it before it reaches the cathedral!
Sora: I'm with you! We won't let it get through!
Jean and Lisa, arriving just behind them, knew they couldn't waste a single second. The Demon Tide, in its destructive surge, seemed to be heading straight for the statue and the religious buildings, as if it instinctively knew where to strike to cause the most fear. The knights shouted orders, trying to coordinate the civilians toward safer shelters, but the panic was growing.
At that moment, the Tide suddenly stopped in midair, hovering above the Archon statue. Like a storm ready to break, it contracted, its Shadows regrouping to form an even more dense and menacing mass, poised to unleash itself on everything below.
The screams of the townspeople echoed as the Tide approached, but just then, Sora and Aether finally reached the square, standing ready to intervene. The two warriors locked eyes, a silent agreement forming between them. It was now or never. Together, they charged toward the Tide, their weapons ready to cut through the storm of Shadows. Jean and Lisa arrived moments later and wasted no time joining the offensive. Protecting the innocents was the priority.
The four stood ready to face the Demon Tide with all their might, but suddenly, just before the creatures could descend upon the cathedral, a large barrier of wind appeared out of nowhere. The dark cyclone of the Tide, in its furious momentum, slammed into the barrier with tremendous force. A resounding shockwave filled the air. The Tide crashed against the barrier, unable to break through.
The four fighters stood frozen for a moment, stunned by what they had just witnessed.
Jean: This barrier... But how...?
Sora and Lisa looked around, searching for the source of the phenomenon, their minds racing, while Aether and Jean exchanged a knowing glance. In their thoughts, they both came to the same conclusion.
Aether: It can only be him...
A smile spread across Jean's face as she recognized what had just happened.
Jean: Even if we can't see him, he'll always be here to protect us...
In a hidden place, a soft, warm chuckle echoed, followed by a familiar and soothing sound: a lyre. The tinkling of its strings blended with the wind, like a melodious echo.
Sora: Do you know what just happened?
Jean, reassured, answered Sora with a smile.
Jean: Don't worry, Sora, it's the work of a friend. An ally... who always watches over Mondstadt.
The barrier, made of pure Anemo energy, shimmered softly in the light of the setting sun, like an invisible veil, holding back the Tide. The dark creatures continued their relentless attacks, but none could penetrate the powerful protection.
Aether: This gives us some breathing room, but we still have to defeat them. The barrier won't hold forever.
Jean nodded with determination. The alliance between this invisible protector and their own strength had just given them a precious opportunity. The Demon Tide wasn't defeated, but it was contained, giving the group a moment to strategize their next attack.
Jean: Now's the time to strike! Let's use this barrier to launch our counterattack!
Sora, Aether, Lisa, and Jean regrouped, the wind brushing their faces. With this miraculous protection and the spirit of their mysterious ally behind them, they felt revitalized, ready to face the looming threat together. With the barrier still holding strong, they knew they had to seize this opportunity to deal decisive blows to the Demon Tide. All four stood poised, eyes determined, as the Tide continued swirling and pounding against the invisible defense, searching for a weakness.
Jean: This is our chance. Let's go, all together!
Sora was the first to leap forward, his Keyblade glowing with brilliant light. He darted ahead with agility, slicing through the Shadows spilling from the Tide, each one disintegrating into bursts of darkness with every strike.
Sora: We have to weaken it before it can regroup!
Behind him, Aether joined the effort, skillfully manipulating his Anemo power. He summoned powerful wind currents swirling around him, creating a barrage of air blades. Each precise movement sliced through the Tide, tearing apart its unstable form.
Jean, watching her companions fight fiercely, called upon her Anemo Vision to create a personal storm around her. Her sword cut through the air with relentless grace, her strikes empowered by wind energy. She pushed back the Shadows with precision, carving a path through the Tide's ranks.
Lisa, staying back to cast destructive spells, channeled the energy of her Electro Vision. Lightning bolts shot from her catalyst, striking the Tide with devastating force, paralyzing the Shadows and preventing their regeneration. Her playful laugh echoed, even amidst the tense situation.
The crackling electricity hit the Shadows with deadly precision. With every coordinated attack from the four heroes, the Tide wavered, gradually losing its cohesion. Its dark body tore apart under the relentless onslaught of light, wind, and lightning, as the Shadows began to dissolve.
Sensing the increasing pressure, the Tide suddenly pulled itself together, compacting its Shadows into a single, swirling, black mass. It rose, immense and threatening, its movements becoming more erratic.
Sora: What's it doing?
Suddenly, with brutal speed, the Tide shot into the air, leaving a trail of dark shadows behind. It rose higher, flying over the rooftops of Mondstadt, heading outside the city. It was clear that despite its power, the creature chose to flee rather than continue the fight.
Jean: Is it... retreating?
Aether: We managed to push it back... for now.
The Demon Tide, wounded and weakened by the repeated strikes from Sora, Aether, Jean, and Lisa, quickly fled, vanishing into the horizon beyond Mondstadt's walls. Silence fell over the city, broken only by the heavy breaths of the four fighters and the soft whisper of the wind.
Lisa: Well, we gave it a good reason not to come back, didn't we?
Jean, still on guard, lowered her sword, her breath slightly labored from the intensity of the battle. She looked around, seeing that the city seemed safe for now.
Jean: We managed to push it back... But I'm worried. Who knows if it might return...
Sora: Don't worry, Jean. No matter where it goes, if it comes after innocent people again, we'll be there to stop it!
The group exchanged determined glances, knowing that while the fight might not be over, they had taken a significant step in protecting Mondstadt.
After the Demon Tide fled, the group slowly caught their breath. The wind blowing through Mondstadt's deserted streets carried a calming silence, broken only by the soft murmurs of the heroes who had just repelled the threat. Suddenly, a small familiar figure flew toward them at high speed. It was Paimon, and judging by her panicked expression, she had traveled a long way to find them.
Paimon: Ah, finally, I found you! You had me so worried!
Sora and Aether exchanged a surprised glance. They didn't expect to see Paimon arriving all by herself, especially after everything that had just happened.
Sora: Paimon? What are you doing here by yourself?
Aether, smiling softly, asked her.
Aether: Were you worried about us, is that it?
Paimon crossed her arms and pouted a little, looking at them both with eyes full of reproach.
Paimon: Well, obviously! It's because of you two that Paimon was so worried! First, you fight all those Heartless, and then, without warning, a tornado sweeps you both away, and you decide to take on all those Heartless by yourselves!
The two boys exchanged a knowing smile before reassuring Paimon.
Sora: Sorry, Paimon. But we're okay, I promise. In fact, we managed to push back the Demon Tide.
Aether: Yeah, we held our ground. And it's also thanks to Jean and Lisa.
Sora gestured toward the two women standing beside him. Paimon, bewildered, quickly flew over to Jean and Lisa, her eyes wide with surprise.
Paimon: Wait, you really pushed it back? Are you two okay?
Jean nodded with a reassuring smile, while Lisa gave a playful wink.
Jean: We're fine, Paimon. Everything turned out for the best, and without Sora and Aether, things could have been much worse. But thankfully, the city is safe.
Lisa: The threat has been temporarily averted. I'd even say we can finally catch our breath, thanks to the lightning-fast intervention of these two young heroes.
Paimon, feeling relieved, let out a long sigh. She seemed much calmer now that everyone was safe.
Paimon: Phew, that's one less thing to worry about. Paimon really glad everything turned out okay.
Jean, becoming serious again, asked about Kaeya, Amber, and their group, who had stayed outside Mondstadt to deal with the other part of the invasion.
Jean: And what about Kaeya and Amber? Are they okay?
Paimon straightened up, taking on a more professional tone, proud to bring good news.
Paimon: Yes, they're fine over there too. In Springvale, Kaeya, Amber, Diona, and the knights are helping the villagers recover from the attack. They're still resting after long battles, but they're safe. Kaeya has taken all the necessary steps to coordinate the relief efforts. They'll probably stay there until tonight to organize everything.
Jean let out a sigh of relief. Kaeya had handled the situation with his usual efficiency, and she finally felt a weight lifted off her shoulders.
Jean: I'm so relieved. Kaeya did exactly what was needed.
She then turned to Aether and Sora, her gaze filled with gratitude.
Jean: Thank you both again, really. Aether, you've helped us save Mondstadt once more. And Sora, thank you especially for your quick response to the crisis. Without you, things could have turned out very differently.
Sora, always smiling, responded with his usual lightheartedness, his eyes sparkling with sincerity.
Sora: No problem, it's what I do. Helping people in distress is always a pleasure.
With those words, the group shared a brief moment of comfort. The threat of the Heartless, though temporarily pushed back, had brought their forces together in a way that made them stronger as a team. Even though the future was still uncertain, they knew they could rely on each other to protect Mondstadt.
Lisa: Well, I think we've all earned a good rest.
Jean, Sora, and Aether exchanged knowing looks, all relieved that the city had been saved and that they had faced the threat together. As they prepared to rest after their hard-fought battle, a sense of peace lingered in the air. Their bodies were tired, but their minds were at ease. However, that moment of calm was suddenly interrupted.
A loud thud echoed, and the group quickly turned around. In front of them, a dark portal began to form, creating a mysterious vortex that pulsed with ominous energy. The natives of Teyvat exchanged surprised and worried glances, their hearts racing.
Paimon: Huh? What is that? It looks terrifying!
Frowning, Aether observed the phenomenon warily.
Aether: I have no idea… But I have a really bad feeling about it.
Sora, however, seemed the most unsettled. Judging by the intensity of his expression, it appeared he recognized the phenomenon. His eyes widened as the realization hit him like a punch. He knew what it meant.
Sora: No, it can't be...
(Kingdom Hearts OST - Organization XIII)
Dark Corridor, a pathway used by those who manipulate darkness to travel between worlds, had opened before them. A dull fear was growing within Sora, fueled by the knowledge of the forces that could summon it. To his knowledge, only Pete and Maleficent possessed that power. A deep unease crept over him. Who had dared to use this ability?
As the group remained frozen in place, a figure emerged from the portal. It was tall, draped in a black cloak that concealed its body and face, making its identity impossible to discern. Paimon trembled in fear at this sudden apparition.
Paimon: Who… who is that?
Aether, stepping a bit closer, scrutinized the unknown figure with sharp attention.
Aether: I have no idea… but there's something sinister about them...
Jean, already in a combat stance, brandished her sword with determination.
Jean: I don't know who they are… but they don't inspire confidence...
Lisa, also on guard, kept her gaze fixed on the stranger.
Lisa: An unknown appearing like this, out of nowhere, right after the Heartless attack... Is it a coincidence? Or perhaps...
Jean: If they're responsible for the Heartless attack, then they will have to answer for their actions. Whatever happens, I won't let this intruder get close to us!
Everyone stood ready against this mysterious enemy. But for Sora, the most troubling aspect was that black cloak. He couldn't shake the thought of the New Organization XIII. The idea that a member of that organization might still be alive haunted him.
Sora: No, it can't be. We defeated Master Xehanort and the Organization... There can't be any left.
The silhouette continued to slowly emerge from the portal, each movement heightening the palpable tension in the air. Sora's thoughts swirled in his mind: what if a member had survived? Who was standing before him? The answers mingled with bitter memories of past battles.
The stranger lifted their head slightly. The group held their breath, the anxiety growing. The identity of this intruder remained a mystery, but the scent of darkness surrounding them could not be ignored. They stood at a crossroads, and the fear of an old enemy coming back to life weighed heavily on their shoulders.
The entire group faced the unknown figure, a palpable tension in the air. Each was on high alert, ready to act at any moment. However, the stranger did not take their eyes off Sora, who felt uncomfortable under such intense scrutiny.
Suddenly, in a movement that surprised everyone, the stranger lunged straight at Sora with blinding speed.
Sora: What?!
In the next instant, the unknown figure literally passed through Sora as if he were a shadow, leaving the young Keyblade master speechless. A chilling sensation coursed through his body, and he felt vulnerable. Concerned for the young hero, Jean shouted.
Jean: Sora, are you okay?!
Sora: Yeah, I'm fine... I just didn't see that coming.
As the group tried to understand what had just happened, the unknown figure paused for a moment, fixing Sora with a disturbing intensity. That gaze seemed to carry secrets and enigmas. Then, without warning, another Corridor of Darkness began to form behind him.
Jean: What the…?
The stranger then vanished, engulfed by the dark portal, leaving behind a deafening silence.
Paimon felt more confused than ever. She waved her arms in all directions before asking,
Paimon: But what just happened? Who was that stranger?
Lisa: He literally passed through Sora as if nothing happened… That's strange.
Aether: What did he want? Why target Sora?
The group exchanged puzzled glances, each member caught between concern and curiosity. The uncertainty was overwhelming, but they knew they had to stay together to face whatever might come. The answers they sought remained out of reach, hidden in the darkness that had just closed behind the strange visitor.
As for Sora, he took a deep breath. He hadn't expected his quest to find Kairi to become this complicated. The arrival of the Heartless in this world was one thing. But the appearance of a mysterious dark figure, potentially linked to his old enemies, was something he hadn't planned for at all. Would he have to relive the same tragedies?
Sora: If this stranger really has a connection to Organization XIII or is tied to something more sinister... it's going to be tougher than I thought...
Outside the city, where the winds still carried echoes of recent battles, the mysterious figure reappeared under a heavy sky. He emerged from the shadows, his black clothing billowing in the light breeze. He stood still for a moment, observing Mondstadt in the distance, his piercing gaze landing on where Sora was.
In the calm of the night that was forming, he murmured to himself, his voice low and contemplative:
? ? ? : Congratulations Sora… you haven't lost any of your strength. That does not displease me.
His tone, tinged with a strange satisfaction, echoed as a statement. His gaze glimmered with an odd light, as if he perceived something that others could not understand. A much more complex enigma, a game whose pieces had only just begun to fall into place.
? ? ? : Destiny has a special role for you. A path you cannot avoid.
He paused for a moment, his face still masked by the shadow of his hood. Slowly, he raised his hand, revealing between his fingers a series of blue-reflecting cards, each adorned with patterns representing different worlds—worlds that Sora had already visited.
He spun one card between his fingers, glancing at it briefly before smiling beneath his hood. He slid the card among the others, as if playing with puzzle pieces whose final outcome only he knew.
? ? ? : Things are about to get interesting, very interesting...
He took a step forward, his eyes still fixed on Mondstadt, as if he was already watching Sora's every move, every choice he would make.
? ? ? : I will ensure that you are guided on the path that awaits you. Destiny cannot be countered... And you still have much to discover.
His fingers tightened around the cards one last time before he vanished again into the darkness, evaporating into the air as if he had never been there. But the presence he left behind, the feeling that something immense and inevitable was drawing closer, lingered in the air. The mysterious figure seemed to be playing a dangerous game, and Sora might just be the central piece without even knowing it.
