Kingdom Hearts III.5: A journey on Teyvat
Chapter 09: New encounters, new bonds (Part 1)
(Genshin Impact OST - Knights of Favonius)
In the hall of the Favonius headquarters, Sora, accompanied by Aether and Paimon, was preparing to leave after a lengthy discussion with Jean and the others. They had exchanged essential information regarding the threat of the Heartless and strategies to face it. But for now, calm seemed to have returned, and everyone was returning to their duties.
Jean had also advised Sora to travel with Aether and Paimon so that our young hero could have a chance to find his friend, Kairi. He turned to his new companions to discuss their preparations.
Sora: So, what do we do now? Do you want to leave right away?
Paimon: Not yet. Before we leave the city, Paimon suggest we buy some supplies. If we're heading to Liyue, it's better to be prepared, right?
Aether: You're right. We'll stop in town to buy everything we need, and tomorrow morning, we'll set off for Liyue. Does that work for you?
Sora: No problem. In that case, let's take care of what we need to do for today.
The trio began to head toward the exit of the Favonius headquarters, but before they even reached the door, lively voices echoed from the top of the stairs.
? ? ?(1): Klee, wait!
? ? ?(2): Don't rush off like that!
Curious, Sora turned around to see a little girl dressed in a red outfit running full speed in their direction. She didn't seem inclined to stop—until she realized she was about to run straight into someone. Despite an awkward attempt to stop, she crashed directly into Sora.
Sora: Huh? Whoa!
Klee: Ouch!
The two of them tumbled to the ground in a tangle of arms and legs. A bit stunned, Sora tried to stand as Aether and Paimon rushed over to help.
Paimon: Sora, are you okay?
Sora: Ouch, yeah, I'm alright—just a little shaken up.
Sora brushed himself off as their attention turned to the little girl who had run into him. Unlike him, she seemed more dazed from the fall, her hand resting on her head as she tried to shake off the pain.
Klee: Ughh…
Sora, Aether, and Paimon leaned closer with concern. Sora crouched down to her level and gently placed a hand on her head, trying to comfort her.
Sora: You're not hurt, are you?
At that moment, two young women arrived, rushing over to the little girl. One wore an elegant dress that resembled a maid's uniform, adorned with a few knightly accessories, while the other wore a blue robe, small round glasses, and had green hair that fell in soft, scattered locks. She also seemed to have small, animal-like ears. Seeing the girl on the ground, they hurried forward, just as concerned as Sora, Aether, and Paimon.
? ? ? (1): Klee! Are you alright?
Asked the green-haired girl, her voice soft but full of worry.
? ? ? (2): Do you need any healing? If so, let me take care of it!
Added the other, already prepared to assist.
Realizing everyone was worried about her, the little girl stood up.
Klee: I—I'm fine! I'm not hurt!
She then turned to Sora, bowing her head in apology.
Klee: Sorry for bumping into you, mister.
With his usual warm smile, Sora gently placed his hand on her head, giving her a reassuring pat.
Sora: Hey, no problem. I'm just glad you didn't get hurt too badly.
Reassured by Sora's comforting words, the little girl smiled, touched by his kindness. The two young women, quickly understanding the situation, gave a small bow in gratitude toward him and his friends.
? ? ? (1): I'm sorry. I hope Klee hasn't been too much trouble for you.
? ? ? (2): Please don't hold it against her. When she sets her mind on something, she tends to charge ahead without noticing what's around her.
Sora: Don't worry about it. I'm not upset with her at all.
? ? ? (2): Really? That's a relief.
Paimon, hands on her hips and putting on a mock-stern expression, leaned toward the little girl, determined to give her some advice.
Paimon: Listen up! Next time, you've got to keep your eyes forward so this kind of thing doesn't happen. Otherwise, you might really hurt yourself!
The little girl, clearly impressed by Paimon's authoritative tone, nodded with a look of regret.
Klee: You're right… I'll be more careful next time. I don't want to worry everyone.
Satisfied with her response, Paimon smiled and crossed her arms, clearly pleased that her message had gotten through. She then turned to the two young women with Klee, curious to know more.
Paimon: By the way, who are you two?
The young girl with green hair and small round glasses spoke up timidly.
Sucrose: I… I'm Sucrose. I'm a researcher of alchemy, affiliated with the Knights of Favonius as an assistant to Chief Alchemist Albedo-sensei.
The second girl, dressed in her maid's outfit but with knightly equipment, bowed politely before introducing herself.
Noëlle: And I'm Noëlle. For now, I serve as a maid with the Knights of Favonius, but my deepest wish is to become a knight myself.
Klee: And I'm Klee! What else was I supposed to say... oh, right. I serve the Knights of Favonius as the Spark Knight!
Seeing the three girls introduce themselves, Paimon decided to follow suit.
Paimon: It's a pleasure to meet you all! I'm Paimon. And this is my companion, Aether.
Aether: Hello, everyone.
Upon hearing his name, the three girls looked surprised, immediately recognizing the famous traveler.
Klee: Oh! I know you! You're the honorary knight who helped Mondstadt, right?
Sucrose: You… you're right, Klee. This is the legendary traveler who faced Stormterror alongside Acting Grand Master Jean.
Noëlle: And didn't he also recently fight a whole horde of strange black creatures? You know, the ones everyone's been talking about since yesterday. I believe he was with someone else too.
Paimon: Eep, looks like you're getting more and more famous, Aether.
Sucrose: I've heard only good things about you. And also that you wield some very unique powers. I've always wanted an opportunity to research you up close!
Paimon: Uhh, what do you mean, research!?
Sucrose: Ah! Sorry, don't mind me, what am I saying...
Noëlle: It's such an honor to meet you. If possible, I'd love to ask for advice… about how to become a knight.
The two girls moved a bit closer to Aether, their eyes shining with admiration and curiosity. So much so that they didn't notice they were almost pressed up against him, making Aether blush, a bit flustered by their sudden closeness.
Sora, amused, chuckled lightly, seeing his friend's embarrassment.
Sora: Well, Aether... looks like you've already got some admirers!
Aether, still a little red, scratched the back of his neck with a shy smile.
Aether: Uh... I'll do my best to answer your questions. But... maybe we could put a little distance between us? Just so I can, uh, breathe?
Sucrose and Noelle, suddenly realizing how close they were to Aether, immediately stepped back, slightly blushing.
Noelle: Oh! Sorry! I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable.
Sucrose: Yes, sorry... I got a bit carried away by excitement.
Then Klee spoke up, curiously asking Sora a question.
Klee: And you, mister, what's your name?
At that moment, the two girls realized they had unintentionally left Sora out and couldn't help but look a bit embarrassed.
Noelle: Oh no, I'm really sorry for leaving you out of the conversation. That's not knightly at all, to ignore someone.
Sucrose: Yes. I... we really apologize. We were just so excited to meet the honorary knight... that we neglected you. I, I'm sorry!
But Sora, ever the optimistic and kind-hearted one, gave them a reassuring smile.
Sora: Hey, it's all good! I don't feel left out. You have every right to be interested in Aether. From what I understand, he's the hero who saved Mondstadt. I'd probably react the same way if I met someone as amazing as him.
Sora's smile and sincerity touched Sucrose and Noelle, who exchanged a relieved glance, each showing a softened, grateful smile.
Sora: Anyway, my name is…
? ? ? : Sora!
Just as he was about to introduce himself, another lively, cheerful voice interrupted him. Everyone turned toward the source of the voice and saw Amber approaching in a hurry, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. She had noticed the little gathering and, seeing her friends together, couldn't resist coming over to see what was going on.
Amber: So, what's everyone doing here?
Immediately, Noelle, Sucrose, and Klee greeted her warmly.
Klee: Oh, Amber-oneechan! Hi!
Noelle: Hello, Amber-senpai.
Sucrose: Hello, Amber.
Amber smiled back at each of them before turning her attention to Sora.
Amber: So, you seem to be chatting with Sora. What were you all talking about?
Sucrose: Well... we just met him, actually. He was about to introduce himself… but it seems like you did that already…
Amber: Oh… really?
A slightly awkward silence followed, with Noelle and Sucrose looking away a bit, while Klee, unfazed, carried on the conversation with her usual enthusiasm.
Klee: So, your name is Sora-onichan? Is that right?
Sora: Yep, that's right, ha ha!
He replied with an embarrassed smile. Immediately after, he continued.
Sora : Well, since that's how it turned out… Amber, would you like to take over the introductions?
Amber, realizing Sora was about to share a bit about himself, flashed a proud smile and took the chance eagerly.
Amber: With pleasure! So… Noelle, Sucrose, Klee, as I said, his name is Sora. You should've seen it—he literally fell from the sky, and I was the one lucky enough to find him first. Thanks to me, he got introduced to the Knights of Favonius.
Sora, amused by Amber's excitement, chuckled, recalling his slightly chaotic arrival.
Sora: Hey, thanks, Amber. She's telling the truth—it's because of her that I was able to get my bearings here after I arrived.
Amber gave him a playful wink.
Amber: No problem! You could say I have a knack for finding lost heroes around Mondstadt. Just like with Aether.
Paimon: Hey, hero or not, it's a good thing you were around to help him!
Now that Sora had been officially introduced, Noelle and Sucrose welcomed him warmly.
Sucrose: Sora, is it…? Well, it's nice to meet you.
Sora: Likewise.
Noelle: If you ever need any help, don't hesitate to ask! It's only natural for knights to lend a hand to those in need.
Sora: Thank you so much. I've already met some of your colleagues: Jean, Lisa, Kaeya… They all offered to help if I needed it. Everyone here is so kind.
Amber: You say that, Sora, but in the end, you're the one who's helped all of us—me, Jean, and the other knights too. Without you, things could've gone badly.
Surprised by Amber's words, Sucrose and Noelle exchanged curious glances before asking her more.
Sucrose: Uh, Amber… Did Sora really do something worthy of all this praise?
Amber: Oh, that's right, you haven't heard the whole story, have you? Well, let me tell you all about it!
With her usual enthusiasm, Amber launched into the tale of Sora's heroic intervention against the dark creatures. She explained how Sora had quickly jumped in to help, thanks to the accounts of injured knights, which led him to identify the threat posed by the Heartless—those dark, ominous creatures everyone had been talking about.
At the mention of these creatures, Noelle and Sucrose exchanged concerned looks. They had heard rumors since the previous day but hadn't known their name. Amber continued, describing how she and Sora had managed to clear the Windrise area, pushing back the Heartless. She also noted how Kaeya had come to their aid at a critical moment, reinforcing their efforts.
Amber: Thanks to Kaeya-senpai and the reinforcements he brought, it was much easier to take down the last of the Heartless. But unfortunately, it didn't stop there. They also attacked Springvale and caused chaos there…
Sucrose: Yes… I heard about it. Reports indicated that Springvale was hit hard by a massive attack from these terrifying creatures. And to think we didn't even know what they were…
Klee: Hey, isn't that where Diona-oneechan lives? Is she okay?
Amber: Don't worry, Klee-chan. Diona's fine. She even helped us fight off the Heartless. And speaking of those creatures, it's thanks to Sora that we were able to make a real difference! When he arrived, he shared all he knew about them, which helped us set up a stronger defense and react more effectively.
Noelle: Really… Sora, you already knew about these creatures?
Sora: Yes, in a way. We're… connected, them and me.
Amber: Yes, Sora apparently has experience dealing with them. So, when the Demon Tide — oh, you know, that moment when a huge wave of Heartless suddenly attacks — started hitting Mondstadt, Sora didn't hesitate for a second.
Amber continued, her eyes shining with admiration.
Amber: Sora and Aether rushed to face them. And with Jean and Lisa's help, they managed to push back the Heartless without too many casualties. Thanks to them, we were able to avoid another disaster.
As the story came to an end, Noelle, Sucrose, and Klee looked at Sora with a mixture of admiration and respect. They couldn't help but be impressed by his courage and skill, just as they had been when they met Aether earlier.
Klee: Wow, Sora-onichan, you're just as amazing as Aether-onichan!
Noelle: Klee's right… I had no idea just how big a role you played. You saved Mondstadt! It's truly an honor to meet both of you. You're just like knights of the Order.
Sucrose: I never would've imagined meeting someone so experienced with unknown creatures… Sora, thank you for protecting our city.
Sora smiled humbly, touched by their words, though his characteristic modesty never wavered.
Sora: It's nothing. I'm just glad I could help, and it was an honor to work alongside such incredible people.
The group, filled with newfound admiration for Sora, shared a moment of camaraderie and appreciation. Shortly after telling Sora's entire story, Klee suddenly remembered she had something important to do.
Klee: Oh! That's right, I almost forgot—I have to go retrieve my treasure in Whispering Woods!
Sora, Aether, and Paimon exchanged curious looks.
Paimon: A treasure?
Amber, Noelle, and Sucrose exchanged a glance, already well aware of what Klee probably meant.
Amber: Hmm… if she's talking about treasure, chances are it's… one of her homemade bombs.
The trio blinked, surprised by this revelation.
Paimon: Wait, bombs?
Noelle: Yes, actually, Klee loves making things explode… like the fish in Starfell Lake. But unfortunately, she often ends up punished by the Acting Grand Master and finds herself in detention for a while.
Sucrose nodded, sighing softly.
Sucrose: So, Noelle and I decided to go with her to make sure she doesn't cause too much trouble.
Paimon: Wait, so you're really letting her keep bombs with her?
Amber: It's complicated… She really knows how to use them. She's actually great at repelling monsters with them, but… let's just say her curiosity sometimes gets a bit out of hand!
Klee, hearing her friends talk about her explosions, just smiled innocently.
Klee: Promise, I won't blow up any fish this time! After all, if I blow up too many fish again, the Grand Master said Dodoco and I won't be allowed to participate in the Ludi Harpastum.
Noelle and Sucrose exchanged a look, visibly unconvinced, but they nodded, ready to accompany her to keep an eye on her.
Noelle: In that case, we'll go with you, Klee. Sora, Aether, Paimon, you're welcome to come too.
Sora and Aether, amused by little Klee's unpredictable adventures, exchanged a knowing look. It could have been interesting to join her, but they decided to politely decline.
Sora: Thanks for the invite, but… we'll have to pass this time.
Hearing this, Klee looked at them, visibly saddened.
Klee: What? You're not coming?
Aether: Sorry, Klee. Unfortunately, we have something planned.
Klee looked down, disappointed, as Paimon tried to comfort her.
Paimon: Really sorry, Klee! If we weren't in such a hurry… we'd love to come along.
Amber, already understanding their intentions, quickly clarified for the others.
Amber: Actually, Klee, Sora and Aether have to get ready for their journey to Liyue. They're going to spend their last day here preparing, since they'll be leaving Mondstadt tomorrow.
Noelle and Sucrose exchanged a glance, understanding they couldn't keep them, though a hint of regret showed in their eyes. They would have loved to get to know them better, but they knew other adventures awaited their new friends. Klee, still a bit sad, looked up at them hopefully, seeking a promise of reunion.
Klee: But… you'll come back, right? When will that be?
Sora knelt down to be at her level, giving her a warm smile.
Sora: Promise. As soon as we have a bit more time, we'll come back to see you, Klee. Right?
He looked over at Aether and Paimon, who nodded.
Aether: Yes, it's a promise.
Paimon: We wouldn't miss it for the world!
Klee's eyes sparkled with hope, and with a delighted smile, she declared:
Klee: Then let's make a promise to meet again at the next Ludi Harpastum!
Sora and Aether: You can count on us!
Her face lit up with happiness, instantly regaining her radiant smile. Noelle and Sucrose exchanged smiles, touched by their friends' promise, feeling more at ease about letting them go.
Klee: Okay! Dodoco and I will be waiting for you. See you soon, Sora-onichan! Aether-onichan!
Klee then joyfully resumed her path toward Whispering Woods, waving big goodbyes. Noelle and Sucrose turned one last time toward Sora and Aether.
Noelle: Sora, Aether, it was an honor to meet you. I hope our paths cross again. Good luck on your adventures. May the winds be with you, and may you find new friends along the way.
Sucrose: We wish you all the best on your journey to Liyue. Take care, and… don't forget that Mondstadt will always welcome you with open arms.
Sora, Aether, and Paimon returned their farewells, their hearts touched by their words. As the group of friends headed off toward Whispering Woods, Sora, Aether, Amber, and Paimon lingered for a few moments, watching their friends walk away.
Paimon: Hehe, Klee really is someone adorable, isn't she?
Amber: You're right! Even if she can't help causing explosions here and there, haha… But hey, she's still young, so it's normal that she doesn't fully understand her actions yet.
They shared a knowing laugh, appreciating this warm moment before the big adventure awaiting them in Liyue. Paimon, always ready to share moments with friends, turned her bright gaze toward Amber.
Paimon: Amber, would you like to join us for the preparations? We could really use your help, and it would be more fun with you!
Touched by the invitation, Amber smiled. But, after a moment of hesitation, she shook her head softly, a hint of regret in her eyes.
Amber: I'd love to, really! But I have to decline. Jean-san has entrusted me with an important mission. With the appearance of the Heartless, she needs me to keep a close watch around Mondstadt. Things have become… a bit more complicated than before, and we need to be extra careful.
Sora and Aether exchanged a sympathetic look, admiring Amber's dedication to her city.
Sora: We understand, Amber. Mondstadt's safety comes first. And with you keeping watch, I'm sure the city is in good hands.
Amber smiled, encouraged by his words.
Amber: Thank you! And you know what? I'm sure we'll have time to spend together when things calm down. Once all the danger has passed, I'll show you all my favorite spots in Mondstadt.
Paimon: Haha! So, that's a new promise? All right! Usually, Paimon the only one who plays the guide, but next time, you'll be our personal guide! Deal?
Amber: Haha! In that case, I'm looking forward to it!
Sora, Aether, and Paimon nodded, reassured that they could count on her when the time came. The trio then left the Knights of Favonius HQ, feeling lighthearted yet focused on preparing for their upcoming journey. The sun was beginning to set over Mondstadt, casting a warm golden glow on the city's cobbled streets. They had a lot to do before they could depart for Liyue at dawn.
(Genshin Impact OST - A Day in Mondstadt)
They headed first to the market square, a lively place even at this hour, where merchants were closing their stalls and trading their last goods. Paimon, floating beside Aether, scanned the area with an eager gaze.
Paimon: Alright, first things first—supplies! We need ingredients, spices, maybe a few ready-to-eat meals… and, of course, some snacks for the road!
Sora let out a small laugh, well aware that Paimon wouldn't miss the chance to fill their bags with anything that looked tasty. Their first stop was the Mondstadt General Goods, a small local grocery store. When they arrived, they were greeted by a shopkeeper named Blanche, who gave them her usual smile as she presented the day's offerings.
After buying their provisions from Blanche, they continued on toward the With Wind Comes Glory shop, run by Marjorie. On the shop's shelves were various travel items carefully arranged: maps of the Liyue region, sleeping bags, and many other practical supplies for adventurers.
As they exited the shop with their new gear and provisions, Paimon suddenly stopped, looking at Sora with a playful smile.
Paimon: By the way, Sora, there's one more thing we need to do before we leave.
Curious, he looked at her. Paimon, floating between the two of them, crossed her arms knowingly.
Paimon: That's right! It's super important for every adventurer! Follow us.
Without fully understanding, Sora followed them to the Adventurers' Guild reception, just a few steps from Marjorie's shop. There, they were greeted by a young woman dressed in a green and white dress. Seeing the trio approach, she greeted them warmly.
? ? ?: To the stars and beyond! Welcome to the Adventurers' Guild.
The receptionist's greeting took Sora slightly by surprise. That phrase reminded him of someone—or rather, of a certain motto that was familiar. He immediately thought of Buzz Lightyear, one of the many friends he'd met during his journey in the Toy Box world. Buzz's motto was "To infinity and beyond". Sora smiled inwardly at the memory, as the receptionist turned toward them with a kind look in her eyes.
Paimon: Hi, Katheryne!
Katheryne: Hello, Traveler, Paimon. It's a pleasure to see you again.
The receptionist, now identified as Katheryne, was well known in Mondstadt as the welcoming figure and receptionist of the Adventurers' Guild.
Paimon: Katheryne! We'd like to register a new member with the Guild.
She turned to Sora, ready to introduce him.
Paimon: Here he is; his name is Sora, and from now on, he'll be joining us on our adventures.
Sora nodded, still a bit surprised by this warm welcome.
Katheryne: Sora, is that right? Welcome to the Adventurers' Guild. If Aether and Paimon recommend you, it means you've already proven your skills in Mondstadt. Becoming a Guild member could be very helpful for you. It'll give you access to resources, missions, and even exclusive rewards based on your achievements.
Paimon nodded enthusiastically.
Paimon: And just think of all the rewards you can earn! With an extra person, we'll be able to get even more prizes, which means way more food to buy and taste!
Aether, hearing Paimon's reasoning, looked at her with a half-exasperated, half-amused expression. He knew her gluttonous nature all too well.
Aether: I see… so that was your plan all along?
Paimon: Eh, it's just one way of looking at things.
Sora let out a light laugh, listening to the conversation between Paimon and Aether. Meanwhile, Katheryne, ever professional, opened a registry and began noting down the necessary information for Sora. Once his registration was complete, she handed him a small booklet.
Katheryne: Alright, Sora, your registration is complete. I'm giving you this: the Adventurer's Guide. It contains all the practical information you'll need to become a good adventurer—explorable areas, various enemies you might encounter, as well as a list of missions updated daily. It's important to keep it safe, as it also serves as proof of your new adventurer status.
Touched by this recognition, Sora looked at Katheryne with a grateful smile.
Sora: Thank you so much, Katheryne. I'll follow your advice to the letter. Now, a new adventure begins for me too.
Appreciating Sora's enthusiasm, Katheryne returned his smile.
Katheryne: It's my pleasure, Sora. I look forward to seeing what feats you accomplish in the future.
After these words of encouragement, Sora, Aether, and Paimon were about to leave the Guild. However, three people arrived behind them—two boys and a girl.
The first boy had white hair, wore navy-blue shorts, a sleeveless cream vest, and had a pair of goggles resting on his head. The second, with a slightly wilder style, had long spiky gray hair, green pants, an orange poncho-like shirt, and a dark hooded cloak. As for the young girl, her appearance was unique. She had long blonde hair styled into twin pigtails, and she wore a sleeveless black and purple lace dress resembling a bodysuit. The most eye-catching feature was the raven flying close by her.
Sora, Aether, and Paimon exchanged curious glances while observing the newcomers. Katheryne greeted the new arrivals with her usual smile, instantly recognizing this well-known trio of adventurers.
Katheryne: Ah, Bennett, Razor, Fischl, welcome! I hope everything went well on your mission.
The three adventurers greeted her in return.
Bennett: Hi, Katheryne! Well, the mission went well, though we did hit a few bumps along the way…
Fischl: Indeed. Darkness fell upon our path, but thanks to the intervention of the illustrious Ritter des wilden Rudels, our courageous ally, we triumphed.
Fischl cast an intense look, speaking with her usual grandiloquence, while Razor nodded, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction.
Razor: Yes. I sensed danger… helped friends. They are… my pack.
Katheryne nodded, appreciating their efforts.
Katheryne: That's wonderful. I'm glad to hear you made it back safely. Please, come give your report—I'm eager to hear every detail of the mission.
Bennett was about to respond to Katheryne when he noticed Sora, Aether, and Paimon nearby, watching the scene with curiosity. Intrigued, he waved to them, a friendly smile on his face.
Bennett: Hey, hi there! Are you guys new here? Did you just arrive?
Sora: Uh… yeah, you could say that.
Fischl suddenly fixed her piercing gaze on them, a dramatic air overtaking her expression.
Fischl: What do I see before me? New souls adrift, seeking light in the darkness? Fear not, for I bestow upon you the honor of becoming valiant subjects of the Immernachtreich.
Paimon: ...Uh, what?
Bennett turned to her with an apologetic smile.
Bennett: Fischl, I think they're a bit confused. This is their first time meeting you, after all.
At that moment, the raven flying near Fischl landed on her shoulder and gave a slight bow.
Oz: What mein fräulein means is that she welcomes you to the city of Mondstadt.
Paimon: Ah! Did that raven just speak?
Oz: Haha, nice to meet you too, my friend… Though I'm sure you must have seen phenomena far stranger that myself before?
Aether: He's right. After all, you've already met Sora's friends.
Paimon: Ah, true, you've got a point.
Katheryne, noticing the scene, quickly took the opportunity to make introductions for Sora and the others.
Katheryne: Sora, Traveler, Paimon, let me introduce you. This is Bennett, Fischl, and Razor. Bennett and Fischl are both members of the Adventurers' Guild. Bennett is the head of the Benny's Adventure Team, and Fischl is an investigator for the guild. Razor isn't a member, but he's always there to help our adventurers when they need it.
Bennett: Hi! I'm Bennett. Like Katheryne said, I'm with the Adventurers' Guild, and I'm the head of Benny's Adventure Team! I gotta say, it's awesome to meet new friends!
Fischl, adopting a dramatic pose, tilted her head slightly.
Fischl: My dear and loyal subjects, I am Fischl, Prinzessin der Verurteilung, bearer of the darkest secrets and fragments of hidden truth.
Razor, meanwhile, regarded them calmly, less accustomed to conversations.
Razor: Me… Razor. Nice… to meet you.
Sora, a bit taken aback by Fischl's style, quickly composed himself and smiled at each of them.
Sora: Nice to meet you. My name's Sora.
Aether: Aether, at your service.
Paimon: And I'm Paimon.
Bennett stared at Aether, suddenly looking surprised.
Bennett: Wait... Aether? No way, is it really you?
Razor: Hmm? Why Bennett... excited?
Fischl: Ah, I understand the plight of my dear subject. After all, this poor soul has been tempted by the one who defies the heavens and cleaves the darkness. Even I, Sovereign of Immernachtreich, recognize the valor of this one who plays with destiny.
Oz: What mein fräulein means, Mister Razor, is that standing before you is Aether, the famed Traveler who recently saved Mondstadt from the crisis known as Stormterror. By his deeds, he was named an Honorary Knight by the Knights of Favonius, and, as we hear, he also fought off a swarm of dark creatures poised to attack the city.
With a more intense gaze, Razor gave Aether a respectful nod.
Razor: ...I see. So, Traveler... important person?
Bennett: Of course, Razor! Gah, I can't believe I get to meet someone as famous as you, Aether—this is the luckiest thing that's ever happened to me!
Paimon, a bit embarrassed, waved her hands.
Paimon: Uh… isn't that a bit of an exaggeration?
Fischl: Ah, do not trouble yourself with trying to understand this poor soul tormented by destiny.
Sora: Um… okay…
Once the introductions were made, Paimon, her curiosity growing, turned to Katheryne and the other adventurers.
Paimon: By the way, Katheryne said you just got back from a mission, right? What were you sent to do?
Fischl spoke up with her usual theatrical flair.
Fischl: Ah! The shadows of the forest called to us. Katheryne, my most loyal vassal here, entrusted us with the noble task of witnessing the course of fate unfurl, in a place where men and beasts converge to perform a deadly waltz.
Oz, her familiar, stepped in to clarify with a steady voice.
Oz: What mein fräulein means is that there have recently been several reports of injuries among adventurers crossing Wolvendom. The Guild thus requested mein fräulein and Mister Bennett to investigate.
Sora, listening carefully to Oz's explanation, might have had a guess as to what caused the injuries among the adventurers. Putting that theory aside for now, he looked at Bennett, Razor, and Fischl, a touch of concern in his eyes.
Sora: I hope you all didn't run into any trouble yourselves.
Bennett, always quick to smile even in the toughest situations, shook his head, aiming to reassure Sora.
Bennett: Well, we actually managed better than I thought! Though, things were a bit… tense at first. When we entered in Wolvendom, I just had this bad feeling. Like… something dark was watching us, and it gave me the creeps.
Fischl straightened up proudly, masking any hint of worry, and declared with confidence:
Fischl: Ha! It is not within my realm to tremble before darkness! I, Prinzessin der Verurteilung, pass through shadows unafraid, guided by the light of my noble destiny.
Oz: If I may, though mein fräulein is indeed fearless, like Mister Bennett, she too felt a certain unease and discomfort upon arriving at the site.
At those words, Fischl's theatrical stance faltered, and a slight blush crept across her cheeks. She turned to Oz, clearly flustered by his comment that undercut her princess persona.
Fischl: O-Oz! Why must you reveal such insignificant details?! I'm not one to… experience such emotions!
Oz: My deepest apologies, mein fräulein. I only meant to clarify the situation for our new friends.
Sora, Aether, and Paimon exchanged amused glances. The dynamic between Fischl's dramatic flair and Oz's calm, factual corrections made the pair both fascinating and comical. Not dwelling too long on this amusing scene, Paimon, eager for more details, pressed on.
Paimon: And then? What happened next? Did you find the cause of all this?
At this question, Bennett and Fischl briefly lowered their heads, a troubled expression passing over their faces. Sora, Aether, and Paimon, intrigued and a bit worried, watched the two adventurers, wondering what they might have discovered to bring about such a reaction. After a short silence, Bennett spoke up, carefully choosing his words.
Bennett: Well, yeah, you could say we found the cause. But, how to put it...
Paimon: What? Is something bothering you?
Bennett: It's just... I don't know what it was...
Paimon: Huh? So you found the problem, but you don't know what it is?
Fischl: Bennett, choose your words carefully—you're confusing my loyal subjects. Forgive this affront! He is still in shock from witnessing a manifestation of darkness in this world.
Paimon: Uh... no offense, but what you're saying is even less clear than what Bennett just said.
Oz: What mein fräulein means, to clarify the situation, is that Mr. Bennett and mein fräulein encountered unknown creatures, monsters they had never seen before. They assumed these creatures were the ones who attacked and injured the adventurers. As for the origin of these monsters, we don't know. They weren't Hilichurls, slimes, or any other creatures known in Teyvat, which explains the confusion.
Paimon: Ah, so that's what it was…
Sora, growing more intrigued, looked at Bennett with an expression of intense interest.
Sora: Tell me, what did these creatures look like?
Bennett: Well, how to describe them? They were mostly black creatures. They had yellow eyes, and some of them had heart-shaped patterns. Also, some of these creatures could move straight through the ground. I had never seen anything like it before. It's no wonder there were injured adventurers since they can appear at any time from underground. Anyway, they ambushed Fischl and me, and we had to fight hard to take them down.
Fischl, still theatrical, raised her head with pride.
Fischl: Hmmph! Those wretched creatures dared to defy the Prinzessin der Verurteilung. Their madness defies comprehension! ...But even I must admit, they were anything but normal.
Oz: What mein fräulein means is that these creatures, though unknown, had a way of fighting that was very different from other monsters in Teyvat. This made them hard to anticipate.
Bennett, nodding, added:
Bennett: At one point, we were stuck. Things could have gone bad, but luckily, Razor stepped in to lend us a hand. With the three of us, we could defend ourselves better and support each other.
Hearing his name, Razor lifted his head and spoke in a calm voice.
Razor: I also felt... something strange. Me and my pack... we were nervous. We sensed danger... somewhere. It was unsettling. That's why... I decided to go deeper into... territory. Me... wanting to protect my pack... and lupicals.
Razor paused, searching for the right words.
Razor: While exploring, I saw Bennett and Fischl. And I saw… black creatures. I've never... seen them before, but... they had a bad smell... Dangerous smell. So, I helped...
Aether and Paimon exchanged serious looks, understanding that what Bennett, Fischl, and Razor had faced was no small matter. They had a feeling about what those creatures might be: after all, they too had been fighting them since yesterday.
Sora, however, seemed certain of the answer. He approached the group and declared in a firm voice.
Sora: I think I know what you encountered.
At these words, Bennett, Fischl, Razor, and even Katheryne looked at him in surprise. Apparently, Sora had information on these mysterious creatures.
Bennett: Really, Sora?
Sora: Yes, I'm sure of it.
Katheryne, attentive, asked Sora:
Katheryne: If that's the case, Sora, would you come with us to the Adventurers' Guild? If you have information that could help us understand and prevent further attacks, the entire guild would be grateful.
Sora: Sure, no problem. I'd be happy to share what I know. As for those creatures you encountered, it's almost certain that they're...
? ? ? : Heartless...
Hearing a voice finish Sora's sentence, everyone turned in its direction, trying to see who it belonged to. Apparently, the owner of this voice was someone the entire group knew well.
Paimon: Lisa? What brings you here?
Lisa: Ara, Paimon, Sora, my little cutie, you're here too. And I see you're not alone…
Bennett: Lisa-san?
Razor: Professor…
Katheryne: Hello, Lisa. Do you need something?
Lisa smiled gently, then replied:
Lisa: Indeed. I overheard your conversation and decided to step in. Katheryne, if you don't mind, could I take over explaining the situation on Sora's behalf?
Bennett: Huh? Lisa-san, you know about these strange creatures?
Lisa: I do. Katheryne, you've likely heard about the recent incident in Mondstadt.
Katheryne: Yes. A whole swarm of black creatures appeared in the city and caused chaos within. Judging by what Bennett and Fischl described, it seems they were the same creatures.
Fischl: I see. And you called them… Heartless? A fitting name for such vile creatures from the darkness, devouring the hearts of mortals.
Lisa: Hehe, Fischl, ironically, what you just said is an exact description of these creatures and their motives.
Fischl: W-WHAT? Really? Wait, they actually eat hearts?! I thought it was just a metaphor… or something like that.
Paimon whispered to Aether:
Paimon: Whoa… this is the first time I've seen Fischl so shaken by her own words.
Lisa: Let's just say you're not far from the truth, Fischl. Sora here has explained the true nature of the Heartless to me. They're creatures born from darkness, harvesting the hearts of anyone unfortunate enough to encounter them, and in turn, these victims also become Heartless.
Bennett: Wait, you mean… these creatures can turn other people into Heartless? That's really possible?
Lisa: Your surprise is understandable, Bennett. Even I, after all these years of studying the world and its mysteries, still uncover dark secrets. There are still so many mysteries around us…
She paused briefly, scanning the group's faces before continuing.
Lisa: As I was saying, the adventurers aren't the only ones who have been injured by the Heartless. Some of our knights have fallen victim to them as well. Given the threat, Jean asked me to come to the Adventurers' Guild to share all the information we've gathered, in hopes of better preparing ourselves and reducing the risks.
Paimon: Wow, Jean really thinks of everything.
Lisa: Doesn't she? After all, as Acting Grand Master, she's responsible for the safety of all the townspeople. And I know you're all getting ready for your journey to Liyue. Leave this situation to me so you can prepare for your departure without worries.
Sora: Well, when you put it that way… Thank you for your kindness, Lisa.
Lisa: Oh, it's nothing, really.
Katheryne listened closely and, after a slight nod, turned to Lisa with an approving smile.
Katheryne: In that case, we gladly accept your offer, Lisa. Come along, all four of you; we should discuss all of this in more detail at the Guild.
Bennett, Fischl, and Razor exchanged enthusiastic looks and nodded, then turned to Sora, Aether, and Paimon to say goodbye.
Bennett: Hey, it was really great meeting all three of you! I hope we'll see each other again soon.
Fischl: Indeed, I, Prinzessin der Verurteilung, grant you my blessing. May all the mysteries of the world reveal themselves to your courage and deep wisdom, which far surpass those of ordinary mortals!
Oz: What mein fräulein means is that she wishes you good luck on your future adventures.
Paimon: Um… I think we already got what she meant. But thanks anyway!
Razor: Good luck… new… friends.
Sora, Aether, and Paimon returned the farewells with smiles of their own.
Sora: Take care, everyone. I hope you won't run into any more trouble with those Heartless.
Paimon: Yeah, stay safe! You never know when those creatures might show up again.
After a final exchange of smiles and knowing glances, Katheryne, Lisa, and the trio of adventurers began to walk away, their figures slowly disappearing into the streets of Mondstadt.
A moment of silence passed, quickly broken by Paimon, who looked thoughtful.
Paimon: Hey, did you notice? We're running into so many people today! First Klee, Noelle, Sucrose, and now Bennett and the others. At this rate, we're going to know everyone in Mondstadt soon!
Aether nodded in agreement, a slight smile on his face.
Sora: That's true. In that case, why don't we take the chance to see a few more people? I was thinking about Diona. She helped us out against the Heartless in Springvale, and she invited us to visit her at the Cat's Tail bar. This could be a good time to thank her, don't you think?
Paimon's eyes lit up, clearly excited by the idea.
Paimon: Oh, that's right! And the bar is super close! Look, it's just over there by the reception!
She pointed to the building a few steps away, and the idea seemed to lift everyone's spirits. A little rest and a friendly visit would be a welcome treat before their travels.
I hope you enjoyed it. Since you've seen the title, then, unsurprisingly, there will be a Part 2. Originally, I'd planned to get all these scenes out in one chapter. But as I wrote, I realized it was probably going to be a bit longer. So I finally decided to do a second half. So, it'll be another chapter with meetings. Would you like to take a guess at who will be appearing next?
