Harry walked out of the fireplace and into Dumbledore's office. They were visiting the Ministry today to attend Umbridge's trial, where Harry was going to testify against Umbridge. Releasing Lupa to let her wander around freely, Harry turned around to see Cho and Dumbledore step out one by one, both there to attend the trial as well.
"Come on Harry, let's get going," Dumbledore said as Harry turned and followed Dumbledore out of his office. As they made their way through the Ministry, Harry saw many employees looking at him with curiosity and intrigue, before looking down at his pet wolf which was following him obediently. Making his way to the same room used for his trial earlier that year, Harry made his way into the witness's room where he was greeted by Kingsley.
"Good to see you Kingsley," Harry greeted him.
"Likewise Mr Potter, follow me," Kingsley said, leading him into the courtroom. Looking down, Harry saw Umbridge sitting on the same chair that he did so many months ago, she however, was tied to the chair, looking livid and unwell, her usual pink outfit gone and replaced by a grey prison outfit with stripes of white.
"You reckon that your department has built a strong enough case to put her behind bars?" Harry asked Kingsley
"I believe so," Kingsley replied, "The Minister is not going to defend her which makes this case a lot more straightforward."
"Fudge turned on her?"
"Indeed, there is too much evidence against her for him to stick by her side, he sacked her the day after we arrested her to try and do some damage control so that he doesn't get ousted."
"Too late I reckon," Harry replied, glancing at Fudge who looked pale and worse for wear, "he messed up when he started denying Voldemort was back and tried to discredit me and Dumbledore."
"Alas, I do believe that that is the case as well," Kingsley replied, attempting to stay as politically correct as possible.
With a loud bang of the door, Dumbledore, the reappointed Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot after Madam Bones's heavy push and Fudge's failures walked in, leading to everyone in the courtroom standing up.
"At ease," Dumbledore said, "Today, I will be presiding over the trial of Dolores Jane Umbridge for her many crimes committed as the Undersecretary and as the High Inquisitor and Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts, Madam Bones, please begin the prosecution."
"Thank you, Chief Warlock," Madam Bones said, standing up and looking down at Umbridge, "we shall begin with our charges of the abuse of power at Hogwarts, throughout her career as a Professor at Hogwarts and the High Inquisitor, Dolores Umbridge had committed multiple offences of the abuse of power, key among which are her attempts at getting Harry James Potter into trouble, the witness, Harry James Potter, is here with us today, Mr Potter, can you recount the instances of Professor Umbridge here attempting to get you into trouble for something that you did not do?"
"I will, the first time I ever felt animosity from Professor Umbridge was during our first lesson when she goaded me into speaking up as she kept throwing side jabs at me, calling me a liar for saying that Lord Voldemort was back (the crowd shuddered a little), for speaking up, she gave me a week of detention and this attempts continued throughout the year."
"Did she ever succeed at goading you into speaking up again?"
"No, I began taking Occlumency lessons during the year in order to strengthen myself magically and that helped me to control my impulses better, Professor Umbridge however, continued to try and goad me into speaking up to get me into detentions."
"Understood Mr Potter," Madam Bones said, "Ms Umbridge, your defence?"
"He was lying and trying to undermine my influence, he deserves those detentions," Umbridge snarled.
"If I may Madam Bones," Harry asked to which she nodded to, "I agree that my rash decision to talk back during the first lesson was indeed my fault but that doesn't take away from the fact that Professor Umbridge did her best throughout the year to trigger me, always taking side jabs, referencing a liar in the room, while she never said that it was me outright, it was clear that she was referring to me."
"Understood Mr Potter, Ms Umbridge, your defence?"
"Those are lies," Umbridge snarled.
"Unfortunately Ms Umbridge, what Mr Potter said here is supported by the testimonies of the other students in Hogwarts, with many testifying that you did indeed try and goad Mr Potter specifically into trouble and that he handled himself well after the first lesson."
"Lies!" Umbridge shouted.
"Order!" Dumbledore shouted back, "There will be no raising of voices in my courtroom Ms Umbridge."
"Let's move on to more evident displays of abuse of power shall we?" Madam Bones said, "Mr Potter, can you recount both of your incidents and altercations with Ms Umbridge after your Quidditch matches."
"I would, in our first match against Slytherin, Mr Malfoy insulted my team and my friends after the game in spite, using racist language and threatening them, in response, Fred and George Weasley jumped in for a fight which I stopped by using a Shield Charm between both of them, Professor Umbridge however, tried to get both of them banned from Quidditch for life and tried to strip me of my Captain title despite me ending the fight before it started, Professor Umbridge also quoted an incident on the pitch itself where I pulled a Wronski Feint on Mr Malfoy and led to him hitting the round hard and injuring himself, she called it a violent action and tried to use it to justify the stripping of my Captain title despite it being a completely legal move."
"What was her proposed consequence for Mr Malfoy?"
"Nothing, despite Malfoy's earlier violent actions during the game, ramming into me which was illegal and his threats, Professor Umbridge did not mention handing him any consequences, she was also quick to anger in this situation, shouting instead of trying to talk to me when I was trying to correct her."
"Your defence Ms Umbridge?"
"Ridiculous lies! Mr Malfoy could have been killed by his actions!" Umbridge shouted.
"MS UMBRIDGE!" Dumbledore's voice boomed, "This is your final warning to keep your voice down in the courtroom otherwise I would add it as a charge to your sentencing, Madam Bones please."
"Thank you Chief Warlock, to support Mr Potter's claims, I have testimonies from Madam Hooch, the presiding Refree who agreed that while what Mr Potter did was a dangerous play, it is perfectly legal and Mr Malfoy was not forced into it, thus hitting the ground as he did was his choice rather than Mr Potter's actions, we would display the Pensive evidence after the sharing of the second incident to show the courtroom the incident, moving on to the 2nd incident, Mr Potter, please continue."
"Thank you Madam Bones, in the 2nd incident, I celebrated the winning of that game by giving my girlfriend, Cho Chang, a kiss, which was perfectly consensual, Professor Umbridge however, tried to frame it as sexual assault to get me into more trouble, when Cho Chang herself tried to clarify the incident, Professor Umbridge tried to make it seem like she was getting threatened and thus not saying the truth, Professor Umbridge then got mad at Cho who admittedly, said something that would trigger her, Professor Umbridge however, acted irrationally, grabbing Cho up by her collar, this led to a stand-off with everyone on the pitch drawing up their wand to get Professor Umbridge to put Cho down with Professor Dumbledore intervention, once again, she acted rashly and kept shouting, even trying to get everyone into trouble for pointing our wands at her."
"Ms Umbridge, your defence?"
"Raising a wand against a Ministry employee performing their duty is a crime."
"In this case however, you escalated the situation by physically threatening Ms Chang, the students were in every right to defend their friend," Madam Bones said, something that Umbridge did not have a defence to.
"Let's view the memories."
After looking through both memories, the courtroom erupted into murmurs once again.
"As you can see, this is a clear violation and abuse of power, Mr Potter, can you share with us the next incident involving the altercation with Mr Malfoy?"
"This altercation happened during my Prefect patrols with Daphne Greengrass, we encountered Mr Malfoy and his friends, Ms Parkinson, Mr Crabbe and Mr Goyle, we then had a tense exchange where Mr Malfoy moved closer to Ms Greengrass, trying to get her to follow his group even though she did not want to, I stood between them and after more exchanges, Mr Malfoy shot a spell at me kicking off a duel which ended with all 4 of the students stunned and unconscious, Professor Umbridge then arrived at the scene and threatened to expel me, I then called Professor Dumbledore down to manage the situation and Professor Umbridge, as usual, was acting irrationally, both Daphne and I replayed our memories for the group to see the memories where Mr Malfoy was clearly the one at fault, she however, tried to strip me of my Prefect status and mentioned nothing of a punishment for Mr Malfoy."
"Thank you Mr Potter, let's look at this memory before we continue with the defence," Madam Bones said, replaying the memory which led to many angry cries from the crowd after hearing Malfoy's statements.
"Ms Umbridge, your defence?" Madam Bones asked.
"This memory is clearly tempered with!"
"Ms Umbridge, as the previous Undersecretary, you should know the stringent procedures that come with memories, it cannot be tampered with," Madam Bones replied.
Umbridge simply stared at Madam Bones, getting paler by the second, at the moment, she was guilty of every charge.
"Let's move on to the incident which led to Ms Umbridge's arrest, her attack, attempted drugging and attempted use of Unforgivable Curses on Mr Potter, the memory please," Madam Bones said.
Playing the memory for the entire Wizagamot, Harry watched as Fudge's expressions turned paler and paler, watching his ex-Undersecretary commit many crimes.
"Mr Potter, can you verify that what you see is what truly happened?" Madam Bones asked.
"Indeed, but I have to add that the entire reason that I was there was due to Professor Umbridge placing me into detention for the lack of quality in my assignments, something that has been proven to be false after Professor Snape, a very capable Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher marked them himself, giving me an Outstanding for the work, showing another abuse of power," Harry said.
"Unfortunately, Mr Severus Snape isn't here with us today, Chief Warlock, as the Headmaster of Hogwarts, can you verify this statement?" Madam Bones asked.
"It is true," Dumbledore nodded.
"There is no evidence of this!" Umbridge shouted.
"That will be a charge of improper behaviour in court Ms Umbridge," Dumbledore said, "Mr Snape can provide his evidence and statement after this trial, though I do not believe that that would be needed."
"Indeed," Madam Bones agreed, "as you can see in the memory, Ms Umbridge used the Imperius Curse on Mr Potter, before duelling Mr Potter when he retaliated, while she was not the first to cast the spell, her attempt at the Imperius Curse was a clear sign of her hostilities, justifying Mr Potter as acting in self-defence, during the duel, Ms Umbridge also casted the Cruiatus Curse at Mr Potter, another count of the use of Unforgivable Curses, after testing the tea she gave Mr Potter, it has been confirmed that the tea was laced with Veritaserum and Forgetfulness Potion, there have been further testimonies given from a house-elf who served Ms Umbridge at Hogwarts, Biank, that she had instructed him to lace the tea with those potions, doing in 6 different occasions, all of which were on students, additionally, through the searching of her office, 3 Blood-Quills have been found, which sheets of parchment filled with writings in blood found around her office, in total, we have concluded that she used it on 19 students, one of which was Mr Potter himself, finally, in the chair used by students in her office, we found that it had configurations in it which would hold a student in it, something that is illegal in schools and after investigations, we have found that she used it on 4 students in the school, in total, there are 19 counts of torture and 10 counts of abuse of power, along with that, 2 counts of the use of Unforgivable Curses, Ms Umbridge, your defence?"
Umbridge stayed completely quiet, not knowing what to say, clearly resigned to her fate.
"Let's move on to other crimes that Ms Umbridge had committed inside the Ministry, firstly, after much investigation, we have found that the Dementor attack in muggle London on Mr Harry James Potter and Ms Cho Celina Chang was committed by Ms Umbridge, with her ordering 3 dementors to attack, we have uncovered attempts to burn the evidence and obstruct justice, Ms Umbridge, your defence?"
Silence once again.
"Looking deeper, we have also uncovered bribery and coercion committed by Ms Umbridge, orchestrating the removal of Albus Percival Dumbledore from his role as the Chief Warlock of the Wizagamot, your defence?"
"Dumbledore was spreading lies which would endanger our Wizarding World, all in the attempt to overthrow the Minister of Magic," she snarled.
"There has been no evidence of misinformation from Albus Dumbledore and equally, there has been no plot uncovered to overthrow the Minister of Magic," Madam Bones replied, "Chief Warlock, I will hand over the time to you for the prosecuting.
"Thank you, Madam Bones," Dumbledore said, "To the 14 counts of the abuse of power, do you plead guilty?"
Umbridge shook her head adamantly, something that wasn't smart.
"The Wizagamot's vote?" Dumbledore asked, with all 50 siding with Madam Bones.
"Guilty!" Dumbledore announced, "To the 19 counts of torture, the vote?"
Once again, all 50 sided with Madam Bones.
"Guilty!" Dumbledore announced, "With Madam Bones already finding Ms Umbridge guilty for the use of the Unforgivable Curses twice, the abuse of power as a Ministry Official in ordering an attack on a minor and corruption, I sentence Dolores Jane Umbridge to life in Azkaban! Court adjourned!"
Getting up from his seat, Harry made his way to the entrance of the room, meeting Cho there.
"She in jail finally," Cho said, glaring back into the room where Umbridge was getting taken away by dementors.
"Yeah, but I won't wish that fate on anyone," Harry sighed, watching Umbridge struggle against the dementor, "they should really get rid of the dementors."
"Agreed."
