Sara finds out she has a niece she never knew about after getting news that her twin brother has died of an overdose. Unwilling to let the child go into the system, Sara chooses to take care of her. Thankfully, she doesn't have to do it alone. Takes place in season 5, after Sara tells Grissom about her past, but before they get together.
