Chapter 5
Mido woke up the next morning feeling quite refreshed. Today was the day he was going to question the two intruders. They appeared from practically nowhere. Then there was the matter with Link. He killed the Great Deku Tree! That fact alone made him feel enraged. It made him feel so angry, he felt like executing him! He frowned. There was no way anybody would allow him to do that. That kind of thing was unheard of in the forest and it would likely lead to rebellion among the kokiri. He scratched his head in thought. Suddenly, it came to him. Of course! He would banish the three, along with Navi as well because she was an accomplice with Link. Whether or not they answered his questions, he still wanted to banish them badly! He stretched his arms and woke Raz up from his slumber. He poked him gently.
"Wake up, Raz! Today is the day I deal with those locked up in the jail. I've already decided what to do with them!"
Raz woke up and grinned at him.
"So, what are you going to do to them?"
He started to walk towards the door to his house. He turned back to his fairy.
"I'm going to see why they are here and then, I'm going to banish them!"
Link, Navi, Charlie and Max were all still asleep. Link was having another nightmare, but he was once again unaware that he was dreaming. He was standing in front of a closed drawbridge. Navi was flying above him. Link looked around in confusion. How did he even get here in the first place? Navi laughed nervously.
"Get ready, Link. The drawbridge is lowering!"
Just as the words left her mouth, the drawbridge began to creak open slowly. Link looked up at Navi as they both waited for the drawbridge to open.
"What's going on, Navi? How did I get here?"
Navi began to giggle.
"Very funny, Link! Now, time to get serious! Zelda showed you that prophetic vision and we managed to warn the castle town guards of Ganondorf's attack. Now that Impa teleported us out of there, we have to make sure she gets away with Zelda safely."
Link was now very confused. Who were Impa and Zelda? And who was Ganondorf? Now that the drawbridge was fully opened, a white horse galloped out. There was an older woman and a younger blonde haired girl on it. He remembered them from somewhere, but from where? Upon seeing Link, the blonde haired girl tossed something to him. It landed in the moat. Before he could see what it was, another horse galloped out. This horse was very black and evil looking, but not as evil looking as the rider. He was wearing black armor and he had green skin and yellow eyes. Upon seeing Link, he snarled angrily.
"You! You caused me a lot of trouble, boy! You and that stupid princess! This will teach you a lesson you won't forget!"
He held out his hand and a blast of magic shot from it and caught Link in the chest and sent him flying back. The evil man laughed and galloped off in the distance. Link just laid on the ground, groaning in pain. Navi was flying around his head in a panic.
"Oh my god! Are you alright, Link? We should've moved further away from the drawbridge. I didn't think we would have a confrontation with Ganondorf!"
Link held himself up on one arm.
"I think I'm alright, Navi. Now, I've got a question, where are Charlie and Max?"
Navi shook her head.
"That blast of magic must have confused you. Your friend Max got captured by Ganondorf's minions, don't you remember? He got turned evil! You did just blast him with your fireball ability. As for Charlie, he must still be inside the Castle Town. Let's go look for him after you feel better!"
Link groaned and stood up slowly.
"None of this makes any sense! Did we get out of the prison Mido put us in or not?"
Navi looked at him nervously.
"Mido is dead! Besides, we got out of there a long time ago. I think you need to sit down again. You're starting to worry me. I'm going to see if I can find Captain Viscin."
Link nodded and sat down. Suddenly, everything started to fade away. He caught a glimpse of Navi and yelled to her.
"Navi! What's going on here? Everything is fading!"
Navi responded, but he couldn't hear her. Suddenly, everything faded away completely. Link woke with a start. He looked around to see where he was. He was still in the jail! Was that a dream he just had? Charlie and Max were both still asleep, but Navi was awake He saw her flying around the jail cell, muttering to herself.
"That idiot Mido better let us out of here soon! I can't believe he locked us up!"
He got up slowly and walked over near the cell door where she was. Upon hearing Link, she gasped in shock as she turned around.
"You scared me, Link! What's up? You couldn't sleep either?"
He didn't respond. He was holding his head. Navi flew closer to him.
"What's wrong, Link? You don't look so well."
He looked her In the eyes.
"I have a huge headache.I just had the most realistic dream. Everything seemed so real and I believe it was set in the future. You were there and you mentioned something about a person named Impa teleporting us out of acastle town. You also mentioned something about Max getting captured by Ganondorf's minions. Who the heck is Ganondorf?"
Navi shook her head in amazement.
"Wow. I haven't heard of something like this happening to someone for a long time."
Link narrowed his eyes.
"What are you talking about? What's happening to me?"
Navi cleared her throat.
"When you said that dream was realistic, I made me think of something that happened to me. I saw my homeland get enslaved in my dreams. That made me really cautious and made me aware of what to look for before it happened. I had a prophetic dream. I think that's what you just had, Link. It let you actually look into the future and you even got to witness some events for yourself. Try to remember anything I may have said. It will be important at a later time."
Link nodded slowly.
"I see. So, I had a prophetic dream...You also mentioned something about me having a fireball ability and Mido being dead."
Navi gasped in alarm.
"Mido...dead? Did you...I tell you how he died?"
He shook his head slowly.
"No you didn't. I never bothered to ask."
He paused and looked over beside him. His friends Charlie and Max were waking up. He looked at Navi urgently.
"Please don't tell my friends about this strange dream. I don't want them worrying about me."
She nodded slowly. If his friends knew about the weird dream, they might try and question him about the future.
Charlie and Max stretched and groaned. Charlie smiled and looked over at Link.
" Good morning. You and Navi were up early, eh? Has Mido been here yet?"
Link groaned and shook his head.
"No he hasn't, but if he tries anything stupid, he'd better get ready for a fight!"
Navi saw Link's angry frown and flew in front of his face.
"Try to calm down. We don't know what he's going to do yet. He might let us go. He has no proof that we killed the Great Deku Tree. That idiot must realize that."
Max sighed at the statement.
"Whether he realizes it or not, I'm sure he's already thought of some way to get rid of us."
Just as those words left his mouth, the jail door opened and Mido walked in, followed by his fairy Raz. He looked at the prisoners, a look of hate and disgust in his eyes. He walked up close to the bars and looked at Charlie and Max.
"I want you two to tell me everything. Where did you come from? How many more of you are out there, waiting for the ideal moment to strike at our village? I want answers to these questions! So, let's hear it...now!"
Charlie and Max were speechless. They didn't know how to reply to his questions. Link stood forward.
"Listen to me, Mido. You got it all wrong. These two are my friends. All three of us are from another...land. We aren't spies. We are just here trying to make the best of things."
Mido started pacing back and forth in front of the jail cell.
"So, you are with these two, Link! I was right all along! I can't exactly execute you. It's not our way. Besides, if I did that, every kokiri here would be up in arms. So here's what I'm going to do with the four of you."
Link interrupted.
"Four? You're punishing Navi too?"
He nodded and glared at her with hatred in his eyes.
"You're darn right I am! She was with you when you killed the Deku Tree. Did she try to stop you? Of course not! That means she must have been working with you."
Navi opened her mouth to protest, but quickly decided that any further argument would be pointless. Mido grabbed a set of keys and unlocked the cell door. He glared at them.
"Come on! Follow me and don't try anything foolish. I'm banishing the four of you! You've caused me enough trouble."
Link shrugged.
"Sounds good to me. I'll miss my friends here, but at least I won't have to put up with you anymore!"
Mido snarled as he opened the jail door and walked outside into the beautiful sunshine and nice temperatures.
"Watch your tongue! The sooner I get rid of you guys, the better!"
Mido started walking towards the path out of the forest when he noticed that there were kokiri gathered in front of it. Brad, Saria, Fado, Izzy and Valerie were all talking with each other. Upon seeing Mido and the four prisoners, they immediately stopped talking and turned to Mido. Saria was first to speak.
"Mido is it true what everyone's been saying? Did you actually arrest Link and his friends for doing nothing at all?"
Mido snorted.
"I hardly call killing the Deku tree nothing at all, Saria!"
She shook her head slowly.
"You're a real piece of work. Where's your proof? I don't believe Link would actually do such a thing."
Mido shook with anger.
"Enough of this! Out of my way!"
Brad barred his way.
"She's telling the truth you know. Link's a good kid. He wouldn't intentionally hurt someone unless they were evil. I trained him myself and helped him to get that sword."
Mido shook his head.
"I don't care! I'm banishing these four and none of you are going to stop me."
Fado threw up her hands in disbelief.
"Banish them? Haven't you been listening to them at all? Link is a kind and caring kokiri, so are his friends. You can't banish them! They haven't done anything!"
Mido had heard enough. He glared at them all.
"I'm only going to say this once. Shut up now! If anybody says another word, they will be thrown in the jail! You may say your farewells to Link and his spies he calls friends and then I'm going to kick them out."
Mido stood to one side as Link's friends said their farewells. Brad walked up and patted him on the back.
"Good luck, pal. Don't forget what I taught you. I hope we meet again one day. Charlie, Max, Navi, good luck to you all as well."
Saria walked up to Link and gave him a hug.
"I'm going to miss you, Link. I have a little something for you. Hold out your hand."
Mystified, he held out his hand. A small object with a piece of paper was placed into it. Saria smiled.
"This is an ocarina. I was going to give it to you as a present later on, but I figured this was the best time. Please take good care of it. I gave you a sheet with instructions along with my song. It's a simple song..."
She looked at Link and his friends. She was saddened that they were being banished and nothing could be done to change it. She gave Link one last hug.
"Goodbye, Link. Goodbye Charlie, Max, Navi. I wish you the best of luck."
Mido stepped forward.
"Alright! Enough farewells. These four are now banished. You may never return. Goodbye and good riddance!"
They were escorted outside the village and near the edge of the forest. Mido turned around and walked back into the forest and to the village. Unknown to him, Valerie and Izzy followed him from a distance. Just before Link and his friends got moving, Izzy and Valerie flew in front of them. Valerie cleared her throat.
"We never got a chance to say goodbye, guys. We hope you will be alright. Any idea where you are going to go now?"
Navi flew forward.
"The Great Deku Tree told Link to go to Hyrule Castle, so I think we will head In that direction. Don't worry, guys. We'll be fine."
Izzy groaned.
"I'm getting so tired of being bossed around by that bully we call a leader! Come back in a little bit, guys. I think it's almost about time we found a new leader. Everyone is upset about how you guys were treated. Well, I guess we'd better get back before Mido finds out that we were out here. Good luck, guys."
Valerie and Izzy turned around and flew back into the forest. Link and his friends walked forward about ten paces. The trees started to thin out and they found themselves in a huge open field. Link turned around to face his friends.
"Well, here's where our adventure truly begins. So far, this is a lot more exciting than the game. What do you guys think?"
Charlie shrugged.
"This place doesn't seem too bad so far. But I have to admit, it feels like a dream. I never thought anything this strange would happen to me."
Max smirked.
"It is quite nice, but I miss home a little bit. Are we ever going to find a way to return?"
Link paused.
"I thought about it when I first arrived here, but now, I don't care anymore. There are some things and some people like my mom for example that I'm going to miss. I don't know what else to do though. We should just proceed like we would if we were playing the game. Next stop, Hyrule Castle!"
Max smiled and nodded.
"So be it, Link. Let's just be careful, okay? I don't want to see anybody get hurt."
They continued walking out in the field. They neared a single big tree and there was something big lurking inside the tree. Charlie saw the tree moving and poked Link on the shoulder.
"Uh, Link? That tree ahead is moving! Something must be in it."
A few minutes later, a huge brown owl flew out from it and made it's way towards them. Link groaned aloud.
"Oh great! Not this darn owl. He's such a pain!"
The owl landed in front of them and looked at the travelers. It had dark brown feathers covering most of it's body. It's beak looked lethal. It was long and hooked and it was yellow in color and the tip was jet black. It spread it's wings and began to speak to the travelers.
"Greetings! My name is Kaepora Gaebora. I have come here to guide you along your way. Now, you are supposed to be heading towards Hyrule Castle, correct?"
Link nodded slowly.
"Yes, but how do you know that? Oh, my name is Link and these are my friends Charlie , Max and Navi."
"Pleased to meet you all. Never mind about how I know about where you are heading. If you go straight ahead, you will come up to a big drawbridge. Go through it and through the castle town and you will be very close. The princess is inside and so is her attendant Impa. Like I said, keep going straight and..."
Link cut him off in mid sentence.
"Alright! We heard you the first time. Thank you, Kaepora. Now, we will be on our way, you chatterbox!"
The owl hooted angrily.
"Of all the nerve! That's what I get called for trying to help? Anyway, I'll be around the area. If I see you having trouble, I might fly down and offer some advice! Hrmph!"
The owl started flapping his wings and took off into the sky. When he was out of earshot, he hooted to himself.
"I wonder if I got the right kid? Link seems a little rude to be the one..."
After he took off, Charlie and Max started laughing about what Link said.
"Calling him a chatterbox! That was so funny, Link!"
"I'm glad he didn't try to attack us. It was funny, but kind of rude as well."
Navi sighed.
"I can tell that this is going to be one long journey. Be careful what you say, Link. This isn't a game anymore, remember?"
Link nodded.
"Okay I'm sorry, Navi. I gotta remember to bite my tongue sometimes."
They continued to walk down the path. It wasn't long before they could see the big drawbridge in the distance. It took about twenty minutes of walking to get to it. Link looked at it closely. It was the same drawbridge from his strange dream! He began to recall his dream. He remembered being attacked by a man named Ganondorf. Suddenly, he could feel a pain in his chest, just like the one he felt when Ganondorf attacked him in his dream! He shook his head, trying to rid himself of the weird and very realistic dream. Suddenly, he went down to his knees, still shaking his head. Navi could tell something was wrong. She flew down in front of his face.
"Hey, Link. What's wrong with you?"
He looked at Navi strangly.
"Where's Ganondorf? Is he gone now?"
Navi had a puzzled look on her face.
"Who's Ganondorf? Listen, Link. I think that prophetic dream is bothering you. We need to get you in the castle town."
Suddenly, everything seemed to go away for Link and he stood up like nothing happened. Charlie and Max were by his side.
"Link, what was that all about? Are you okay?"
"There's something you're hiding from us. What happened to you? What's a prophetic dream?"
Link put a hand to his head.
"Navi's right. We need to find a place to stay so I can rest. I will tell you everything when we do."
Link walked into the town with his friends, still wondering how a flashback of a dream made him act so strange and made him feel so lightheaded.
