Episode 23: The School Could Use a Cowgirl
Based on "Day of the Diesels The Movie"
Rosie ran off to the nearest park and fell to her knees in front of a very big apple tree. She was so ashamed of what she did that she almost could never forgive herself.
"How could I have been so stupid?" Rosie sobbed, "I should've seen it, it was really..." She couldn't finish because she burst into tears.
"Come on Sis, you know big girls don't cry," said a familiar voice from nearby.
Rosie looked to her left and saw someone holding out a left hand to her. She turned around and saw who the hand belonged to. It was her big brother Brad.
"Was someone bullying you Rosie?" he asked kindly, "'cause I can have a little chat with him if you want me to."
"No, it's not a bullying problem," Rosie sighed, and looked back down to the ground. "Brad, I've done something really stupid today. I helped a criminal named Diesel 10 and the Smelter Class teens take over my school and helped them capture my friends. I thought I was doing good, but instead I was doing something bad. I'm so stupid!"
"No, you're not stupid," Brad said with a soothing tone in his voice. He got down till he was on his knees and he was in clear view for Rosie to look at him. "Now listen to me; you believed that you were doing something good. That's not stupidity, that there shows a person with a very big heart."
"Yeah, but..."
"It's not your fault Rosie. You had no idea that they had a different plan in mind." Being the kind brother he was, Brad wiped the tears away from his sister's eyes gently and rubbed her back gently.
"What do I do now?" Rosie asked after a moment.
The green-haired young man kept his smile. "I think you already know what you have to do..."
"Yeah, I think I do." Rosie slowly got to her feet and looked down to her brother with a small smile on her face, "I've got to correct my mistakes and put things right. I have to show Diesel 10 and those Smelter Class teens that they can't take over my school and get away with it."
"Now that's the spirit Cowgirl!" Brad cheered, while he got to his feet.
Rosie's smile grew bigger, then she walked up to her older brother to give him a hug.
"Thanks Brad. You always know just what to say in situations like..."
"Like what?" Brad asked.
Rosie was looking worried. "You'd better turn around."
Brad did turn around and gasped, for he and Rosie could both see smoke in the distance.
"That's coming from my school!" Rosie cried. "It's bad enough that they take over my school, but now they have to set it on fire...I have to stop them. Brad, will you help me?"
"Of course I'll help you Rosie," Brad nodded, before motioning a hand slightly. "Now, why don't you go get the fire department? I think they're just down the road. I'll go and see what I can do about getting into that school."
"You're very brave Brad. But be careful," Rosie warned.
"Don't worry I'll be careful, as long as I remember everything I was taught in the military."
Within moments, the older green-haired boy was running over to Sodor High School, while Rosie raced off in the opposite direction to go and get the fire department.
As luck would have it, Flynn and Belle were down the road with their team. They had just put out a fire at an apartment building, and were getting ready to leave when...
"BELLE! FLYNN!"
The two adults looked and saw Rosie running towards them in a big panic.
"What's the matter?" asked Belle.
"Come quick!" Rosie said very quickly. "My friends...school...danger!"
"Easy, slow it down girl," said Flynn soothingly, kneeling down to the teenage girl. "Now, tell us what's happening."
"A criminal named Diesel 10 has taken over Sodor High School and is holding everybody, including my friends, inside prisoner," explained Rosie more calmly. "What's more, is that it also has caught on fire. We need help!"
"Say no more!" Belle said, looking serious. "We're ready to come to the rescue."
There was no time to be wasted, so Rosie helped Flynn and Belle get the rest of their equipment back into their fire engine, then she rode with them back to the school with three other fire engines following close behind.
They raced along the roads until, at last, they arrived at the school where they found Brad still trying to find a way to break in.
"Any luck Brad?" Rosie asked.
Brad sighed unhappily. "Nope, no luck...until now anyway."
"What's that suppose to mean son?" Belle asked with a raised eyebrow.
"We can use the back end of the fire engine to break down the metal door. Once that's done, you guys and your firefighting team can go in and stop that fire."
"Say no more lad," nodded Flynn. "I'll do this one. Everybody else stand back!"
Everyone stood back from the closed off doorway while Flynn turned the fire engine around, then he stomped his foot down on the pedal and the fire engine went charging towards the door.
"Good thing I'm not that door," Belle commented in a deadpan tone. "Because that would hurt in the morning."
Flynn had to bang on the metal door more than a few times until, at last, the door had been smashed to pieces and they had a clear path into the school.
"Now, where's the Smelter's Class?" Flynn asked.
"It's just down the hallway, follow me."
Belle stayed behind to work the pumps while Flynn and Brad both followed Rosie to the classroom. They soon arrived and Rosie was about to open the door...but remembered the lecture from a few days ago.
"This is it, the Smelter's Class," she pointed out.
"Stand back!" Flynn commanded firmly. He went and kicked the door open, revealing the entire classroom to be engulfed in flames. Flynn pulled out his portable radio. "All right Belle, turn on the pumps! We found the source of the fire!"
"Ten-four!" Belle's voice responded back.
Within seconds, water shot out of the hose and towards the fire.
"Come on Brad," Rosie said to her brother. "We got to get to the back room. Thomas and Emily are both trapped in there."
The green-haired young man didn't need telling twice. He followed his baby sister to another doorway where they met up with Den.
"What are you doing here?" he asked firmly. "This school is under our control now!"
"In other words, get lost!" shouted Dart from his doorway.
Rosie looked rather angry, but then Brad whispered softly into his sister's right ear. Then, after a moment, she nodded and walked forth and spoke angrily to Den and Dart.
"Let my friends go now you fools! The Smelter classroom is on fire, and soon the fire will spread to where you are now."
"We have our orders not to move," said Den hotly.
"What he means is...oh wait, he got it right," Dart said, feeling rather embarrassed, but immediately tensed up. "But we're still not moving!"
"Maybe you didn't hear me properly; the fire will soon spread to where you both are now!" Rosie growled, grabbing the two Smelter teens by their shirt collars and pulling them closer to her, until they were all seeing eye-to-eye. "Then you'll be in big trouble."
The two brothers didn't answer back. They only looked to each other for a moment.
"I think we should..." Den started.
"Go?" Dart finished.
Den nodded. "Yes."
"Besides, I never liked Diesel 10 anyway," Dart added.
"Me neither," Den agreed. "Why should we stay?"
And, after Rosie released them, Den and Dart both moved away from the door, causing the pink-haired girl to sigh in relief. With the two Smelter teens now away from the doors, Brad and Rosie were both able to get access to the room. Rosie felt the door first before going in, as she learned from that lecture from Flynn and Belle. Thankfully, it wasn't hot and neither was the doorknob.
"I'm going to put this right!" The pink-haired girl said to herself with determination, right before she went and turned the door handle.
Inside the back room, Rosie and Brad both found Thomas and Emily, both still tied up near one of the desks.
"Thomas! Emily! I'm so sorry about what happened." Rosie immediately got down on her knees and worked to get them untied. "I had no idea that Mister Ten was really Diesel 10, and I didn't know about his plans. I didn't want any of this to happen."
"It's okay Rosie. We don't blame you for this," said Emily calmly. "Right Thomas?"
"That's right," he agreed with a nod, "After all, you thought you were doing something to help others."
"Yeah, but now I know the truth, and I would like your help to take the school back from Diesel 10 and the rest of the Smelter's Class."
"Of course we'll help you, besides..." Thomas added,"...if we don't stop him soon, he might stumble upon Emily's secret. If that happens, we'll really be in trouble."
Once both teenagers had been freed, Rosie and Brad lead them out of the back room and down the hallway to where they found Flynn still fighting the fire, now with a little help from...
"Sidney? Paxton? Den? Dart?!" Rosie exclaimed. "I thought you'd be helping Diesel 10 and the Smelter's Class."
"Not me nor Paxton," said Sidney truthfully, while Paxton nodded slowly in agreement. "We had no intention of helping him. To be honest, I've been helping to free the other trapped students when I saw Flynn having trouble here, so I ask him if he needed help and that's how you found us."
"And we decided to lend a helping hand too," added Den. "It's the least we could do for the mistakes we caused."
"What he means is...we're helping put that fire out," Dart pointed out.
"I think we got the message already," Thomas said in confusion and with a raised eyebrow.
"Dart sometimes corrects Den, even at times when he doesn't really need to," Rosie whispered to her blue-haired friend.
With the help of the four Smelter Class teens, Flynn and a few firefighters were able to keep the fire under control and keep it from spreading.
"We're winning!" The Fire chief shouted after a few moments.
Indeed they were, the fires started to die down until there were no flames left and the room, while covered in water and soot, was now safe and sound.
"That's enough," Flynn called into the radio. "The fire is out now."
"Ten-four Flynn!" came the reply of Belle.
Moments later, the water stopped pouring out of the hose.
"Sidney, you said you guys were helping to free the other students. Where exactly are they now?" Rosie asked.
"They are all waiting in the cafeteria," said Sidney. "We managed to sneak them in there. When the other Smelter teens came by, I told them that I was putting them in that room so they couldn't bother us."
"Clever move," Rosie smiled, but soon turned serious. "But now we're going to need their help in taking back our school. Tell the other students to go over to the principal's office, the three of us are going to go over there right now."
"Roger dodger, we're on it," said Paxton.
Den and Dart both went with Sidney and Paxton, while Flynn went into the ruined Smelter classroom to make sure no fires would start up again.
Rosie immediately lead the three teenagers down the hallways and through the main entrance, past the other smelter class students.
"What are you all doing here?" Diesel asked hotly. "And why are they free?"
"That's easy," grunted Rosie. "We're taking our school back. If you try anything, we'll just stop you."
Seeing as they were outnumbered, Diesel and his gang did back down almost immediately.
Brad was impressed with his sister. "Well done Rosie. You're one brave cowgirl."
"Thanks Brad," Rosie whispered to her big brother.
Inside, Stacy Jones was cowering under her desk when she spotted both Rosie and Thomas.
"He's still inside Sir Topham Hatt's office."
"Thank you," said Thomas. He went over to the door to Sir Topham Hatt's office and opened it.
Inside the main office, Diesel 10 was seated at Sir Topham Hatt's desk with his back to the gang. He kept a calm, yet evil look on his face.
"So, you've came back Rosie," he muttered sinisterly, before turning around to look at all of his enemies with a maniacal look on his face. "Foolish girl, the school is mine now!"
"You're wrong! It's our school! And we're taking it back!" Thomas shouted.
Rosie stepped forward. "You tricked me Diesel 10! You made me think I was helping the Smelters' Class, but I now know your scheme, and we're going to stop you here and now!"
Diesel 10 gestured his claw hand out in a threatening tone.
"You'll all do nothing!"
Rosie was nervous and backed up a step when Diesel 10 did that, but she took in a deep breath and stood her ground, trying hard to show Diesel 10 that she wasn't the same scared little girl she was before. Moments later, they heard shouting coming from the hallways.
"What the..." cried Diesel 10.
"Oh, did we forget to mention that we freed the other students and now they are coming here to deal with you?!" Rosie smirked.
Enraged, Diesel 10 growled. Rosie was indeed correct, all the other students were marching through the hallways and then stopping outside the office.
Thomas spoke up fiercely, "We won't let you get away with this! We'll fight back until you're gone from here! This is our school, not yours!"
Rosie smiled at the large amount of students, showing their bravery in such a dangerous situation.
"You've been beaten Diesel 10, I suggest you give up control of Sodor High School," Thomas went on. "You don't scare any of us anymore. So you might as well get out of that chair and leave this place right now!"
Diesel 10 slammed both hands on the desk. "Me? Leave!?" he shouted. "Never! This school is mine, and I'll never give it up to the likes of you fools!"
"What makes you think you can take all of us on?" asked Thomas calmly but firmly. "There's more of us than there is of you."
Diesel 10's angry face soon turned into one of wicked glee as he erupted into maniacal laughter, catching everyone off-guard.
"You think you have me beat, don't you Thomas?" he asked. "Well, you don't! Take a look outside why don't you?"
Brad ran to a nearby window and gasped. Outside, there were hundreds of hoodlums wielding baseball bats and knives. Worst of all, many of them had also surrounded Belle, Flynn, and their firefighting team, ready to attack them at the given command.
"There's a whole army out there!" Brad announced in horror. "And Belle, Flynn, and the other firefighters are all surrounded!"
"I called in my gang," Diesel 10 explained. "Somehow, I knew something like this would happen, so I took some extra measures to ensure that I win no matter what. So you fools might want to think twice before you try to take back the school."
"You monster!" shrieked Emily. "Those are innocent people out there!"
"Like I care!" Diesel 10 cackled. "I can give the command at anytime, and when I do...my gang will destroy you all! And now..." He picked up the nearby microphone. "...it's time for a long awaited fight!"
Thomas, Emily, Brad and Rosie all stared in defiance. If they, along with their other friends, were going to die fighting Diesel 10 and his gang, then so be it. But just before anything could happen...
"Hold it right there!" came a booming voice.
A person came through the crowd of students, stormed past the front desk, and went into the main office. It was Sir Topham Hatt, and he was not a happy looking chap.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't my old friend, Alexander Ten. I can see you're up to your old tricks again," The principal sneered.
"That's right Bertram, my old friend," snickered Diesel 10. "The school is now mine, and my gang is ready to attack at my command!"
"Wrong! Take a good look outside for a moment if you will."
Diesel 10 looked out the window and, to his own horror, saw a dozen or so police cars arriving. His various gang members were now getting onto their bikes and were running off scared out of their wits, while also leaving Flynn, Belle, and the other firefighters alone.
"I'd say you're now outnumbered," smirked Sir Topham Hatt.
"Why you..." snarled Diesel 10, but went quiet when he saw the VERY angry stare on Sir Topham Hatt's face.
"You nearly burned down the entire school and could've gotten a lot of students and teachers hurt because of it, and now thanks to you, the Smelter's classroom is now in complete ruins!" bellowed the real principal of the school. "You have caused enough damage Alexander. Now you will be taken back to jail where you will serve your punishment!"
"Shut up!" roared Diesel 10 in fury, taking a gun out of his coat pocket.
Everyone watched in helpless shock, thinking that Sir Topham Hatt was gonna be shot dead...but it wasn't to be. Diesel 10 instead turned around and shot at the window, smashing it to pieces. From there, he jumped out and ran past the police and disappeared into the distance...no doubt to return in the future.
"He never could accept defeat all that well," Thomas muttered to himself.
Sir Topham Hatt then walked over to his desk and grabbed the microphone, speaking into it.
"Attention students and teachers of Sodor High School! This is the principal, Sir Topham Hatt speaking. The nightmare is over now. The school is once again under my control, please wait a few moments for the metal doors to be opened. That is all."
Mrs. Jones, who was still at the front desk, immediately pushed a button. Within minutes, the doors were opened back up, and both the students and teachers were finally free to walk out of the school.
Rosie, Thomas, Brad and Emily didn't leave just yet though. Rosie immediately stepped forward to confess her little crime.
"Sir, this was all my fault. I thought Mister Ten wanted my help to restore the Smelter's Class and for a while, I thought I was doing something good...but only too late did I find out that it was all a devious trick of his," The pink-haired girl said in shame. "I wouldn't be surprised sir, if you expelled me from the school. After all, I did a very stupid thing today."
"Rosie..." whispered Sir Topham Hatt, feeling sorry for the young girl.
"Sir," Thomas piped up, "you can't expel Rosie. She got help to put the fire out in the Smelter's Class, she freed both Emily and myself, and she lead all of us here to confront Diesel 10."
"Diesel 10 would still have complete control of this school had it not been for Rosie," Emily added. "Please daddy, don't expel her."
Sir Topham Hatt rose his hand for silence, then he spoke to Rosie.
"While I'm not happy that you helped Diesel 10 and the Smelter's Class take over the school," he said sternly. A smile then appeared on his face. "I am, however, pleased by what you did to help those you care about. I will not expel you Rosie...but I will leave you with a warning. You need to learn to be more careful around shaddy characters, because they could be far more dangerous than you think."
"Okay sir, I won't forget and thank you for not expelling me."
Sir Topham Hatt smiled. "That is all for now children. You may leave, since I wish to speak with the Smelter's Class students."
Thomas, Emily and Brad each turned to leave the room. Rosie, however...
"Sir, if I may speak before we go," The pink-haired girl chirped up once more. "Try to go easy on Paxton, Den, Dart, and Sidney. After all, they helped us to get the school back from Diesel 10..." She then decided to ask the big question. "Can the Smelter Class students also have a new classroom? Their old one isn't really perfect for a class."
"Of course they can have a new classroom. I was thinking of giving them a new room anyways, as well as having that room restored to it's former glory. That was what my meeting with the mayor was all about; to secure a budget to restore the Smelter classroom," smiled Sir Topham Hatt. "Now, is there anything else you would like to say Rosie?"
"No sir, thank you for your time."
With that said, Rosie turned and walked out of the room where Brad, Thomas and Emily were waiting for her.
"Despite all that, you were still willing to do something for the Smelter Class students. That shows that you have a big heart and that you really care," Emily smiled kindly. "You must be very proud Rosie."
"I am. I've done something good today and that makes me feel good."
"Usually does," Thomas chuckled, but as an agreement not as teasing.
"I'm proud of you Sis," smiled Brad. "Now let's get your stuff and let's go home, I'm sure mom and dad are starting to worry sick about us. Care to join us you two?"
"No thanks Brad. We got to get going anyway," replied Thomas. "My sisters Annie and Clarabel are also probably worried sick. Rosie..."
"Yeah?" The pink-haired girl looked up with a hopeful expression.
"I promise you that tomorrow night we can hang out again okay?" Thomas said quickly.
"Sure, as long as it's okay with Emily."
"Yeah, it's okay with me Rosie," Emily stated. "I'm not going to tell Thomas of what he can and can not do. That's just not who I am."
"Okay then, we'll see you two tomorrow!"
That said, Rosie and Brad both left together to get her school bag and books. Thomas and Emily both went back to their classroom to get their own belongings, then they set off to the nearest bus stop.
Along the way, they saw Belle and Flynn, both unhurt thankfully, getting ready to go home.
"Thanks for saving our school!" They both shouted in unison.
"Always glad to help!" Flynn called out to them.
"It's what we do best!" added Belle. "We'll see you two again!"
Both firefighters climbed back into their fire engine, then they drove away back to the fire station.
A little later, Thomas and Emily both returned back to the house where they found Annie and Clarabel looking worried sick, as expected. The two sisters immediately started to ask the two teenagers lots of questions and they answered them all until the sisters had calmed down.
After all the questions had been answered, Thomas and Emily both got started in making dinner.
"Well, that was...entirely different," Emily said as she chopped up some vegetables. "Thomas, can I ask you something?"
"Sure Emily. What do you want to ask?"
"Were you scared when Diesel 10 had taken over the school and had us tied up in the back room of the Smelter's Class?"
Thomas nodded slowly. "Yeah, I was scared. I mean who wouldn't be? But I was mostly scared that he would find out just who you were."
"Well, then it's a good thing he didn't discover the truth," Emily pointed out. "But if he did, what would you have done then?"
"I would still protect you Emily, I'd make sure he never lay a single finger on you. I don't even care if Diesel 10 would have had to kill me. What really would've mattered...and still does matter right now, is your safety. Does that answer your question?"
Emily immediately smiled and nodded to her friend.
"Yeah it does. Thanks for answering."
The two teens went back to cooking, all the while, the dark green-haired girl was looking over to Thomas while her cheeks were going as red as James' hair, but she quickly looked away as Thomas looked over to her direction and spoke up.
"After we're done eating, do you want to work on our homework together?"
"Sure, that'd be great," Emily answered.
From the doorway leading from the kitchen to the living room, Annie and Clarabel were both watching the two teenagers as they cooked up dinner.
"I think they might be in love," Annie whispered to her twin.
"They would make a great couple if they were in love," Clarabel whispered back to her twin.
They watched for a moment or so, then they walked off back to their rooms to finish their homework.
