Chapter 34
Moxxie
"Morgana!" Yelled Moxxie in both happiness and excitement as the one true friend he made in his childhood made her way towards Moxxie, Millie, and Mordekaiser. He never thought that this would be what his dad planned but he won't deny that it was something that he was excited to have. Still smiling, Morgana approached Moxxie and placed a hand on his cheek, kneeling down to do so.
"You've grown quite well since I last saw you, Moxxie." Said Morgana as she examined Moxxie, scarcely believing that the boy that she met years ago had grown up to be this young man before her.
"And you've…actually haven't changed at all." Said Moxxie, trying to say something nice about her appearance but couldn't as Morgana looked exactly like what she looked like when he last saw her. Like exactly alike. It was kind of off-putting actually. Morgana just shook her head at that.
"Immortality will have that effect on you." Said Morgana with a hint of sadness in her voice. "But its friends like you that make immortality bearable. I must thank your father for giving us an opportunity to meet again after so long." Mordekaiser simply grunted at that. He didn't have any intention of having Morgana meeting with his son again, not because she was a corrupting influence on him, but because he saw no reason for it all when Moxxie had all he had with him and those he befriended in Hell. However, after sometime of planning his day with Moxxie, Mordekaiser thought of Morgana and decided what better way of bonding with his son than having bringing along the one true friend he made in Runeterra. No doubt Moxxie would be ecstatic of seeing Morgana again, even if they only meet each other briefly, and it also gave him an opportunity to study Morgana in a more personnel manner than he did previously. A win-win.
Morgana gave Mordekaiser a look when she heard him grunt before looking at the Imp female that was with them, who was currently starting in awe at her. For what reason, Morgana couldn't fathom why. Raising an eyebrow at the female Imp, Morgana asked Moxxie about his friend. "And who is this, Moxxie? A friend of yours?" Moxxie shook his head at that.
"No, this is Millie." Explained Moxxie, introducing his wife to Morgana. "My wife for under a year." Morgana blinked at that, surprised to see Moxxie having a wife, before smiling at this wonderful news.
"I see." Said Morgana before turning fully to face Millie, who still looked at her in awe. Smiling, Morgana extended out a hand to Millie.
"Greetings, Millie." Said Morgana as she observed Millie, who was still looking at Morgana in awe over something. "My name is Morgana and I'm happy to see the woman that Moxxie has decided to share his remaining years with as well as start a family." Upon hearing all that, Millie stopped gawking at Morgana before taking her hand and shaking it.
"Pleasure to meet you as well, ma'am. My name is Millie and it sure is great to meet you. Whoever you are to Moxxie." Said Millie, not sure what relation this Morgana had with Moxxie. It obviously must have been good with how excited Moxxie was at seeing her again. And Millie was eager to see why that was.
"A friend." Said Morgana with a smile as they stopped shaking each other's hands. She noted just how strong Millie seemed to be with how she gripped Morgana's hand. She clearly was a strong Imp. "Though we only known and met each other briefly before Moxxie went to live in Hell, we formed a bond close enough for us to be considered friends. His only friend from those not within Mordekaiser's own realm."
"Really?" Asked Millie. "Why is that?" Upon hearing that, Morgana frowned.
"Both because of his father and because of how inhospitable Runeterra is." Said Morgana plainly, causing Millie to tilt her head at that.
"Inhospitable?" Asked Millie in confusion. This place didn't seem all that unsafe to live in. "What's so bad about this place?" Moxxie only told her a very brief explanation of Runeterra, his dad, and his realm. Both in her family ranch and when they got back home, so she didn't know just how dangerous this Runeterra was. Upon hearing that, Morgana looked at Mordekaiser and Moxxie to give her an explanation.
"She just learned of my existence, Morgana." Explained Mordekaiser as he looked at the celestial being before him. "Moxxie told her a few days ago. I assume he hasn't had time to tell her much about our world."
"Yeah, I only told her about the basics of Runeterra, you and Mitna Rachnun. As well as your goal of taking over Hell." Said Moxxie in slight embarrassment. Morgana just shook her head at that with a small smile.
"Then, we can speak more about Runeterra along the way." Said Morgana as she crossed her arms over her chest. "I planned for us to head to a nearby lake to relax and enjoy each other's company. It's relatively safe from the Mageseekers despite recent issues with them." While Millie and Moxxie were excited to hear about her plan, Moxxie more so, they were confused at what she just said.
"Mageseekers? What's that?" Asked Millie as she looked at Morgana, who shook her head.
"I'll explain on the way." Said Morgana with a hint of sadness and even anger in her voice. With that, she began walking away with the Imps in tow. Mordekaiser looked at the passing group for a moment before soon following. As they walked out of the cave, Moxxie saw how much things have changed since he was last here.
When he was but a child, the forest around Morgana's home wasn't home to any buildings or other caves nearby. Now, there seemed to be a small village of people around the cave that Morgana calls home. People that were looking at Morgana as she left her home with a few people. Varying between old and living human men and women to young children, the humans were looking at the Imps and Mordekaiser cautiously. As if afraid of them. Well, actually most of, if not all of it, was directed to Moxxie's dad. And, to be fair, it was justified. He was literally a giant, magical, and fearsome looking suit of armor that housed a powerful spirit inside its frame. And one that produced a fearsome aura that made even the bravest of souls quake in fear at seeing him.
Morgana must have noticed this as she quickly addressed everyone surrounding them in order to appease their fear.
"Don't be alarmed, my friends." Said Morgana as she spoke in a calming voice. "These people do not intend on bringing any of you harm. They are my friends or people they trust." Upon hearing that, the people starring at them relaxed and went about their day, obviously trusting in Morgana's words.
"Forgive them." Said Morgana as she looked at her group of…oddities to say the least. "They have been persecuted and hunted down for most of their lives by strangers and those that seek to take advantage of Demacia's…mage policy. It instilled in them an understandable paranoia for strangers. Though, to be fair, one of you do inspire much fear from them." It didn't take a genius to know who she was referring to.
Mordekaiser just grunted at that before the group continued on to their destination, not caring at all what Morgana just said as he knew what his appearance instilled in the weak minded.
"So, who were those people, Morgana?" Asked Moxxie as the group soon left the vicinity of the small village of humans. "You didn't have those people around when I last came here. Who are they?"
"Much has changed since we last encountered each other, Moxxie." Said Morgana as they walked. "Some of it for the better and others for the worst." Morgana sighed before she explained. "As I told you many years ago, Moxxie, Demacia is not a place for those that possess even a sliver of magic within them. And as years past, it has only gotten worst. I haven't told you this when we last meet, but Demacia has an organization dedicated to rooting out magic and those that use it called the Mageseekers. They are ruthless to anything and anyone possessing even a sliver of magic potential. They will either kill them or imprison them forever. Not to mention those that they believe help those they persecute." Upon hearing that, both Millie and Moxxie were in shock at this revelation. That sounded awfully like the angelic Exterminators that come to Hell every year to cull the Sinner population in Hell.
"They've become more active in this region as of late and all of Demacia for that matter." Continued Morgana as they continued their walk. "It has to do with a man that I helped sometime ago. One that I'm ashamed of." Upon hearing that, Moxxie looked at Morgana in concern. In her voice, he could hear anger but mostly pain and sadness in it. A lot of it. Like she regretted helping the man that she spoke of.
"What happened?" Asked Moxxie as he looked at Morgana's back, worrying for his friend.
"A great many events happened, Moxxie." Said Morgana simply as she continued to walk as she reminisced of the past. The shameful and hurtful past. "Events that have cultivated in much turmoil and suffering in Demacia. Both for Mages and for the rest of Demacia." Morgana would have continued more when she noticed that they arrived at their destination. The lake that she had taken Moxxie all those years ago. Still beautiful and majestic as it was over two decades ago.
Deciding to continue the conversation in a more relaxed environment, Morgana led the group to a private spot that gave them a perfect view of the lake while also providing shade from the sun, which was rather scorching today.
Sitting down on a patch of grass, Morgana watched as both Millie and Moxxie also sat on the grass before continuing her story, Mordekaiser opting to simply stand instead of sitting on the grass.
"A few years ago, the previous king for Demacia, King Jarvan III was killed. How, I don't know, but I do know that his son, Jarvan IV, put blame of his father's death on Mages." Explained Morgana as she continued her story with both Imps listening intently. One because he wanted to know what had happened on Runeterra while he was away and the other because she was curious. As for Mordekaiser, he simply paid minor attention to the conversation, having already known what happened all those years ago. He may not have much of a hold on Demacia but that didn't matter when he can observe the nation that rivaled Noxus in power without fear of being detected. Demacia, whether in arrogance or foolishness, had no means to notice that he was spying on them. Awaiting the day to take Demacia for himself. Just like everything in Runeterra.
"Why would he do that?" Asked Moxxie, shocked at what he just heard. "Why would he blame mages for his father's death?"
"Yeah, that seems dumb." Said Millie in agreement. "On a side note, what the fuck are mages? That some people or something?" These Jarvans or Mageseekers or Mages weren't something that Moxxie told her about. All he did was just give her a very basic overview of everything he knew about his dad and the place he owned and he came from, instead trusting on Mordekaiser to do that. He didn't even give her an explanation about Runeterra and why it exists with humans when humans also come from Earth, their supposed home according to the holy bible. She didn't know much about the bible that humans like to throw around and how everything in the universe came to be, but she was certain that a different world that had humans in it was something that would really throw into question the validity of…a lot of things.
"Mages are humans that can freely use magic." Explained Mordekaiser to his daughter-in-law. "Unlike the humans on Earth, the humans of Runeterra have the ability to use magic. Some more so than others, with some unable to properly use magic at all in useful applications, but it cannot be denied that the humans of Runeterra are more magically competent than the humans of Earth." Millie was shocked to hear that. To hear of humans being able to use magic, something only the nobles of Hell and certain Overlords were capable of back in their home, was something that stupefied her.
"And are Mages, as you call them, common in Runeterra?" Asked Millie. She knew most of the noble families in Hell had the ability to use magic, though some she heard neglects their abilities for one reason or another, and that some Overlords had abilities akin to magic, so she couldn't imagine common humans being able to use magic.
"*Chuckles* Very much common and it seems to be increasing as the years go by." Said Morgana as she looked at Millie, who was wrapping her head around all this. "Runeterra is a world filled with magic. All beings here have some form of magic within them. Some simply have the ability to harness it and use it better than others. Like your father and I." Morgana then frowned. "And like the Mages that Demacia persecutes." Sighing, Morgana focused on the topic at hand.
"As I was saying, Jarvan IV blamed the Mages for the death of his father." Said Morgana as she recalled everything she knew, both from her own investigations and what she learned from the people that lived near her. "The reason for it was because a mage just so happened to be at the location of his father when he died. To be fair, though, that mage had the intentions of killing his father and, when he discovered the king had been killed, he humiliated the prince. Thus, the prince had no love for the mage. Combined that with what the prince having the belief, like all Demacians, that mages are a threat to the very existence of the world, the prince had the mage imprisoned and sentenced to death. He also strengthened the power of the Mageseekers and strengthened Demacia's stance regarding Mages, creating an atmosphere of intolerance towards mages of all kinds." Morgana then sighed. "Little did the prince know, that would only result in the opposite effect of what he wanted."
"What do you mean?" Asked Millie, both intrigued and horrified with the story that Morgana was telling them. Moxxie was of the same boat, horrified at what had been going on in Runeterra since he left it.
"The mage that Jarvan IV imprisoned and sentenced to death escaped captivity and then raised a rebellion against kingdom of Demacia. A rebellion against the oppressive nature of Demacia's stance against Mages." Explained Morgana as she sighed in regret and pain. "At first the rebellion started out nobly, as nobly as a rebellion can be, but as the years went by it began turning into something…darker. More sinister. It no longer sought to simply change the nature of Demacia's stance against magic and mages. It wanted to abolish Demacia's monarchy and way of life altogether by any means necessary." She then looked at both Moxxie and Millie seriously. "And I do mean, by any means necessary." The way she looked at the two Imps gave them all the information they needed to know why Morgana had sighed in pain before. What they didn't know is why she sighed with regret as well? Did she…did she have a part to play in the rebellion.
"Morgana, did you have a part to play in this rebellion?" Asked Moxxie, causing Morgana to chuckle sadly.
"A small, but critical part unfortunately." Said Morgana with a sad smile on her face before she explained. "The mage that started all this goes by the name of Sylas. After escaping captivity and forming the rebellion, he eventually sought out me for support of his rebellion. Back then, he only knew me as the Veiled Lady, a title people have given me after I made my home here. He thought I was a simple mage that could help provide arcane knowledge and wisdom to help in his rebellion. At first, I refused for I saw what was within his heart at the time. Vengeance and hatred. I could not help someone that held only those emotions within their heart nor had any care to the innocents that will be caught in the fires of rebellion. So, I sent him away."
"Really?" Asked Millie in confusion at Morgana's confession. "Then why do you say you played a role in this rebellion going all crazy and dark?"
"Because he eventually came back." Said Morgana as she recalled those days with sadness and regret. "This time, his heart was filled with sorrow and regret over his recent failures. At the time, I thought he had learned that vengeance and hate will not win his rebellion and that he had been humbled enough to understand this so I gave him my blessing as well as shared some of my knowledge to him. I even told him Demacia's true history in hopes he can understand why he must fight." Morgana then sighed in pain as she held herself in sorrow, something that caused the Imps and Mordekaiser to look at her, the former in concern and the latter in intrigue. "But something happened. Both to Sylas and his rebellion. I don't know what, but the rebellion soon became less of a fight against oppression and more of a fight to topple Demacia's entire way of life. To kill all its leaders and replace it with something…horrifying and evil. I saw Sylas' followers torching entire villages to the ground. Seen them murdering entire families of Mageseekers. I even saw them…" Morgana stopped herself before she could say anymore, closing her eyes in pain as tears came down her face. Seeing this, Moxxie looked at his friend in sympathy and shock. Just what did she endure while he was out living, relatively well, in Hell?
"Morgana," Started Moxxie, feeling somewhat ashamed that he had a smoother life than whatever his friend had while he was gone. All he had to deal with normally was Blitzo and Loona's comments about his weight and competence and killing difficult to kill targets on occasion. Never did he have to deal with a rebellion and be somewhat responsible for it becoming worser than it was by aiding its leader, no matter how well-intentioned it started out. "I'm sorry to hear all that. If I had known that all this would have happened, I would have come to help you deal with it." Morgana looked at Moxxie in appreciation with what he said, a smile gracing her sad features.
"I appreciate the thought, Moxxie, but I fear you would have been killed by either side of the rebellion for doing so." Said Morgana as she moved over to Moxxie slightly and caressed his right cheek with affection. Millie pursed her lips upon seeing this but refrained from acting, knowing that her husband would never cheat on her. Not to mention the story Morgana just told left her feeling sad and sympathetic to the human woman. At least, she thought Morgana was a human woman. Despite her having pointy ears, glowing purple eyes and strange wings on her dress, she couldn't be anything else than a human, right? "Sylas' rebellion would have killed you the moment they learned you will not help their cause and intend on stopping them. And the people of Demacia would have killed you simply for being you. I despise the fact that I played an unwitting part in letting the rebellion become what it had become before it was stopped. If it had taken your life Moxxie, in addition to all the innocent lives it had taken, I do not think I would have stopped myself from intervening and putting a stop to all the conflict. That is unless your father intervened first."
"I would have." Said Mordekaiser with a scoff. "No one harms my son and is allowed to get away with it. No one." Morgana gave Mordekaiser a small smile at that, appreciating that he has changed from the man that sent his son to a village that would kill him on sight with nothing but a magic scroll.
"He clearly changed."Thought Morgana as she looked at Mordekaiser watching her interact with Moxxie. "I don't know what he was like when he was amongst the living long ago, but I quite like how he cares about Moxxie. In his own way." Morgana would have spent more time thinking about Mordekaiser when Millie spoke up.
"Sorry to interrupt, but you said the rebellion was stopped. How and when did that all happen?" Asked Millie, eager to learn more about this rebellion and what happened to this Sylas.
"Of course, you deserve to know how it all ended." Said Morgana before finishing her story. "Unfortunately, I don't know the full details of how the rebellion ended, and perhaps it would be more befitting to say that it was merely crippled, but I do know that a battle took place that forced Sylas and whatever followers he had that escaped said battle and were loyal to him still to Freljord, a cold and harsh land to the north of Demacia. The rest were either killed, imprisoned, or fled to hiding, either because they weren't able to leave with their leader or because they wanted nothing to do with Sylas after his crime." Morgana sighed as she let go of Moxxie and looked at the direction of her sanctuary/home. "Some of which are here, in hiding under my protection." Both Millie and Moxxie were shocked to hear this, surprised that Morgana would take people that committed acts that clearly she disapproved of and caused her pain. Never did they think someone would do such an act with the exception of Hell's Princess Charlie.
"Really?" Asked Millie in surprise. "How come? Don't you hate them for what they did in this rebellion?" Morgana just looked at Millie in slight disapproval of what she said.
"I don't hate them for what they did in the rebellion." Said Morgana as she crossed her arms across her chest. "I disapprove of their actions along with them continuing to follow Sylas until they were left no choice but find safety without him, but I do not hate them. Not when many of them fought for him either because of the failures of Demacia's leadership or because they felt that he was the only being that actually saw them as other human beings and capable of bring change to Demacia when no one else would." Morgana then sighed in sadness. "Like myself. The best I can do to help these poor souls is making them see the error of their ways and give them a safe sanctuary from the Mageseekers and those that wish to partake in revenge against them."
"That's…pretty noble of you, Morgana." Said Moxxie as he looked at his friend in awe, amazed at her generosity and forgiving nature. He always had known that she was a caring individual with how she treated him in their limited interactions but he didn't expect it would go this far. It made him feel more shame that he didn't visit her even once during his time in Hell. Not to mention making him feel shame at his line of profession as well. Speaking of said profession, he wondered how Morgana would react to what he and Millie did for a living. That they went to the realm of the living and killed people.
"Knowing her, not very well." Thought Moxxie as he imagined the various scenarios of Morgana finding out that he was an assassin for hire, none of which were something he wanted to see come to reality. At all. Still, it would in his best interest to tell her what he's been doing with his life right now than later. It would just make things worser for him if he didn't tell her now and she found out on her own volition. Gulping a bit, Moxxie thought of how to tell her this in the most opportune time when Millie spoke up.
"Uh, forgive me for asking, but what do you mean by you not being able to help people beyond giving them a home?" Asked Millie, curious. Morgana's story and her general behavior of telling it left her a bit confused on why she didn't help against this Sylas. "If you disliked what this Sylas asshole was doing, how come you didn't try to help take this guy down?" Morgana sighed upon hearing the question.
"Its because of what would happen if I intervened against Sylas." Said Morgana before the chains around her body broke and allowed her wings to unfurl and reveal their true splendor. Millie was stunned beyond belief when she saw the six wings of varying sizes be revealed to her.
"Holy fuck!" Yelled Millie in shock, looking at the wings in disbelief. She noticed the feathery things on Morgana's dress and body, but she thought they were accessories. She didn't think they were actual wings. "You're a Fallen Angel!?" The only Fallen Angel that Millie knew, and likely all of Hell knew, was Lucifer himself and he didn't look anything like this Morgana. At least his depictions in Hell's entertainment industry as well as historical books.
Morgana raised an eyebrow with what Millie just said. A Fallen Angel? She looked at Mordekaiser, who responded.
"Angels are a separate species from another afterlife different to Hell called Heaven." Explained Mordekaiser. Morgana only had the knowledge that he had given her when she and Mordekaiser went to Hell for her first and only trip there, none of which held anything pertaining to the Angels and Heaven. "Heaven is a supposed paradise where humans souls go if they've proven themselves morally right enough. Those that haven't proven themselves to be…moral enough go to Hell." Upon hearing that, Morgana frowned, not liking that system at all. It sounded far too much like Demacia for her liking.
"And who dictates who goes to this Heaven and who goes to Hell based on their morality?" Asked Morgana as she looked at Mordekaiser. She still didn't have much reason to like Mordekaiser. They haven't seen each other well over twenty years and that only broke when he came to her home a few days ago to let her know that Moxxie was coming for a visit. While happy to see Moxxie again, she wasn't exactly pleased to be around Mordekaiser, even if her opinion of him has improved slightly since they first met. He hasn't done anything to make her dislike him or even hate him, but he hasn't done anything to make her like him either. So, she was honestly neutral to him at the moment, though her opinion of him definitely leaned towards disliking him, given his history. While she hadn't interacted with the tribes or people that were subjected to his rule over four hundred years ago and would later go to form Noxus, she knew that the stories based around Mordekaiser had to have some facts in them. And so far, some of the stories hold true to what she did know for certain about the Iron Revenant.
"That, I don't know." Said Mordekaiser honestly. He tried searching for answers on what were the criteria for a soul to venture to Hell or to Heaven, but so far he hasn't found it. In fact, all he learned was that even the leaders of Hell, both Sinners and Hellborn, didn't know what exactly how many good deeds and how few Sins one needs to have in order to be allowed into Heaven. It also didn't help that no soul in recorded history ever was redeemed and sent to Heaven. Hence, why many were so critical of Charlotte Morningstar's little redemption project, mocking it when they can get away with it. Which seemed to be all the time as Lucier was surprisingly absent for being the supposed ruler of Hell. It made Mordekaiser sick thinking of such a weak and incompetent ruler. "I believe only the rulers of Heaven know that answer and they're not willing to talk if their annual culling of Hell's population is any indication."
"Cullings?" Asked Morgana as she narrowed her eyes, her temper raising. Her short temper. "This Heaven conducts genocide on the people of Hell?" Seeing Morgana's hair rising and the calm water near them rippling, Moxxie gulped as he looked at Morgana, suddenly fearing for his life along with Millie. Morgana he knew wouldn't hurt him or his friends, but he didn't know if that was the case when her temper broke.
"Dad, is this really a good time to tell her that?" Asked Moxxie as Millie suddenly put Moxxie behind her, suddenly worried about Morgana, having had a feeling in her gut that she didn't want to see the winged woman angry. This was supposed to be a relaxing day with his dad, right?
"Tell me what?" Demanded Morgana as her eyes glowed even brighter than before when she heard what Moxxie just said. "Just what has been going on in Hell that I haven't known?" Moxxie gulped as the air suddenly grew tense as Morgana's temper was reaching a critical point. Moxxie had only seen a glimpse of her when she was angry when he was but a child. She had calmed herself down before she did anything she would have come to regret doing to Moxxie, who was near her at the time, but she may not hold her temper back when she learned about the Exterminations, even if Moxxie wasn't a target of them. He tried to think up of a way to calm Morgana down when his dad threw those plans into the ground and crushed them under his mace.
"Heaven sends an army every year to conduct a culling of Hell's Sinner population." Said Mordekaiser. "For a whole day, warrior women from Heaven descend to Hell's only Ring where Sinners are allowed to live in so that they can kill them. While Hellborn are safe from these warriors, although I have seen some Hellborn dying during this day, Sinners, former humans that went to Hell after they died, are subjected to being killed by these warrior women. Tens of thousands die at the hands of these…exorcists as they're called, their souls forever destroyed and absorbed by the very realm of Hell. Or turned into stone for use by those that survived the Extermination." When Mordekaiser was finished, Morgana was silent, starring at him while she processed his words.
Gulping a bit at this, Moxxie quickly grabbed Millie and then dragged her behind his dad, intending on protecting her from Morgana when she…exploded. Millie, though she never experienced a violent temper from a being as powerful as Morgana before, she had enough sense to know when something bad was about to happen. And something bad was going to happen soon because Morgana suddenly let loose a wave of energy.
"How dare they!" Yelled Morgana as dark purple chains suddenly appeared from the ground as Morgana's temper broke. "How dare they go and conduct genocide on a people!? How dare they go and conduct such an event against the people of Hell!? How long has this been going on!?"
"A few thousand years or so." Said Mordekaiser simply, causing Morgana to unleash another flare of power in rage.
"Unacceptable!" Yelled Morgana as she raged, glaring at Mordekaiser, though he was not the target of her ire. At least this time. "How can something so vile exist for so long?! How can the leaders of Hell and Heaven do such a thing for so long!? Are they all incompetent or simply don't care about the lives lost!?"
"I don't know about the leaders of Heaven, but it seems the leaders of Hell either do not care about the lives of their common citizens or are in leagues with the leaders of Heaven to conduct these genocides." Said Mordekaiser, giving Morgana two possible theories he had regarding the Exterminations and why they went on for so long without anyone trying to stop them. From what he gathered, no one even bothered to try and rise up against Heaven for their Exterminations. Or their leaders for them as well. Why? He honestly had no idea. The humans of Earth must be weak willed if they never bothered to even attempt a rebellion against Lucifer and his stupidity.
Morgana, upon hearing all that, let out a yell of rage as she suddenly took off, flying to the other side of the lake and landing there with a massive thud, dirt and grass thrown up into the air as a result of Morgana's rough landing. It was clear to everyone that the woman was displeased with what she just heard and so flew away so that she didn't hurt anyone in a blind fit of rage.
Seeing how upset and angry that Morgana was at what was going on in Hell, Moxxie looked at his dad in exasperation.
"Did you really have to tell her about the Exterminations, dad?" Asked Moxxie. "Wasn't this suppose to be a relaxing day with you and Morgana?"
"It's not as if there was anything else to discuss about Heaven that was relevant beyond the supposed facts about it." Said Mordekaiser simply. "Besides, she was going to learn about the Exterminations eventually. I merely gave it to her now."
"But today was supposed to be a fun day of hanging out with you." Protested Moxxie as he looked at his dad in exasperation. "This was supposed to be a day where we can connect with one another. To reestablish our father and son bond. And you go do something like this to one of my few friends. I just…" Moxxie just sighed in frustration as he wiped his face. Millie clutched her husband's shoulder in comfort, attempting to calm him down. She then looked at her father-in-law with disappointment.
"Sir, I think you should apologize to your son for this as well as to that Morgana lady." Said Millie as she looked at Mordekaiser's armor/body. It truly was a work of art, if one was into spikes, dark metals, and the scary green mist that surrounded the armor, something Millie was into with how cool and intimidating the armor was but right now she was focused on getting her father-in-law to understand what he did wrong. "Although, I get that its your thing to be brutally honest with people and get right to the point, this really wasn't the day to go about this. I ain't saying to go lying that Morgana lady about what Heaven does to the Sinners in Hell, but don't you think you could have waited a bit before telling her about the Extermination? At least until Moxxie had a great day of fun with you and this Morgana lady. Now, I ain't mad at you, I know who you are and honestly its really Morgana fault for losing her temper, but you honestly could have told her that you'll tell her later rather than telling her right now. Right?" Mordekaiser simply scoffed at that.
"Believe me, that woman wouldn't have stopped pestering us about what was going on in Hell when I revealed the Exterminations to her." Said Mordekaiser before looking at Moxxie looking downcast at what befall today. Seeing how upset and disappointed he was, Mordekaiser sighed as he felt a strange emotion befall him upon seeing his adopted son's emotional state. The same emotion he felt whenever he saw him upset. "I won't apologize for what I said, Morgana deserves to know the truth, but I will talk to her. Get her to calm down so we can go back to our original task of…simply enjoying one another's company. In the meantime, daughter-in-law, help my son. I would like him to be…happy when I come back talking to his friend." Millie, upon hearing that, smiled at that.
"No problem." Said Millie as she hugged her husband, who returned it with affection. "Just get back her quick so we can actually do what we're supposed to do today." Mordekaiser just grunted at that before opening a portal and walking through it. Millie then saw him on the other side of the lake with Morgana. With that out of the way, Millie looked at her husband with a small smile on her face.
"Your dad is…well he's something, Moxxie." Said Millie as she tried to cheer her husband up. "I mean, I noticed that before when I first met him, but I didn't think he was so…"
"Blunt and has the worst sense of timing that you have ever seen." Said Moxxie bluntly as he looked at the lake, hoping the calm waters can have a calming effect on him to no avail.
"…Yeah." Said Millie as she had no counter to what Moxxie just said. "Still, he honestly isn't among the worst parents in Hell."
"I know, Millie, but that doesn't excuse him for doing stuff like this." Said Moxxie as he looked at his wife. "I love him, I truly do, but its things like this and that stunt he pulled a few days ago that really makes it hard to love him."
"What do you mean?" Asked Millie, a bit confused. She didn't see what was wrong with his dad that it made Moxxie question his love for him.
"I mean, he told Morgana about the Exterminations on the day we're supposed to be having a fun and relaxing day of bonding instead of waiting later on to tell her and his attack on all of Hell made literally countless people swear their souls to Overlords or nobles just to not go hungry. Them and their families." Said Moxxie as he relayed his frustrations to with his dad to his wife. "When my dad told me all those years ago how he'll change Hell for better, I didn't think he would go pull stuff like this. I thought he would do something gradual and peaceful like what he proposed to the Princess when we met her on Father's Day. And, yeah, he does that with all his shelters and stuff, but then he does something like that mass bombing a few days ago. I just…I don't understand him sometimes. I love him, but…he's just so…cold and indifferent to others that aren't me." Millie, upon processing all this, hugged her husband and rubbed his back.
"I know what you're saying, sweety." Said Millie as she comforted her husband. "He's not at all what you envisioned him to be and act, but honestly, that's just the way things go sometimes. People just…aren't as what we like to them to be most of the time. And that's completely fine. I think a lot of people don't understand that its completely normal that people aren't completely you or what you desire one hundred percent all the time. I mean, life would be really boring and unimaginative if that was the case. Now, I'm not saying that we should hang out with people that just assholes or otherwise we'll pick a fight with on…well a daily basis for the stupidest of things, but rather we should just learn to accept and tolerate people for their quirks and negatives. Unless they've truly did some shitty things, in which case, fuck them, but most things can be tolerated and endured if someone puts an effort into it. I mean, Blitz and Loona have done and said some pretty shitty things to us in the year we've worked for I.M.P., but we got used to them pretty quickly. Plus, we even made common ground with them on some things."
"Like what?" Asked Moxxie with a raised eyebrow as he looked at his wife, wondering what common ground they found with their crazy boss and his bitch of a daughter.
"Killing and the fact that we all agree that your dad is scary as fuck." Said Millie simply with a smile on her face. Okay, he had to agree with that. "But honestly Moxxie, this is your big chance to help reforge that bond you have with your dad. Fix whatever issues and concerns you have with him and his way of doing things. And, maybe make him change for the better. After all, just because I say we can tolerate the negatives of people, that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to improve them or set boundaries, right? Communication is key or something like that." Moxxie just smiled at his wife, pleased and happy to hear her advice. It made him feel better. A lot better. It astounded him just how lucky he was to have someone like her as a wife. Someone so wise and beautiful and…so caring.
"I guess you're right, Millie." Said Moxxie with a small smile as he looked at his father on the other side of the lake, which left him dumbstruck.
To his surprise, Morgana and his father were conversing with each other peacefully it seemed with Morgana even laying her head upon Mordekaiser's armored rip cage, the Iron Revenant having sit down next to the woman as they conversed. That stunned Moxxie quite a bit. Just what had been going on between them.
"Well, fuck me, looks like your dad has a new lady's friend!" Yelled Millie as she also saw this, a big smile on her face. "Are they hitched together?" Upon hearing that, Moxxie spluttered and looked at his wife in shock.
"They're just friends!" Yelled Moxxie as he looked at his wife in shock. "Sort of. They only met each other a few times to my knowledge. And most of those ended with them arguing with each other with them even raising their arms against each other. That's not something people that lov each other do! Plus, does my dad look like someone who wants a girlfriend? Much less a wife?"
"I don't know." Said Millie with a smile as she looked at Morgana and Mordekaiser conversing with each other still with Morgana's head still on Mordekaiser's metal rib cage. "You be surprised how many people from Wrath get hitched with people that tried to kill them before. That's how my dad and mom met."
"How!?" Yelled Moxxie, stunned at what he just heard. That explains so much of why Millie's parents don't like him and like his dad so much. "How does one go from trying to kill one another to making a family with the other!?" Millie just shrugged, saying that's how love works sometimes. Groaning, Moxxie looked at his dad and Morgana still conversing with each other it seems.
"I don't know how I feel about my dad getting in a relationship with someone." Thought Moxxie as he imagined his dad courting someone in his own way. None of what he imagined…were something he'd like to see. In fact, he was horrified at the scenarios he imagined his dad partaking in, given who he is and what he liked, and doubted most women would like to be courted by someone like his dad given his nature.
Shuddering at the latest image in his mind of his dad courting a woman, Moxxie hoped he and Morgana would come soon so that he be rid of those images and they get to have some actual bonding time.
