The next morning...
Like the previous morning, Aaron went through his usual routine and was currently at Nintendo High again.
A few minutes earlier, he was right outside Mr. Hand's office, standing in front of the receptionist, Monita's desk.
There, the robotic receptionist pulled out two documents from a drawer. Each was a form that gave information on the new students he was meant to orientate today. She gave them to Aaron.
After, Aaron made his leave, and Monita waved him off with a smile as he thanked her.
Then, he looked at the info on the papers.
The brothers he was meant to meet today were named Mario and Luigi...Mario. Aaron had to reread their last names before just going with it.
He saw their G.P.A.s, which were not at all bad. Mario's wasn't as high as Luigi's, but it wasn't terrible.
He saw no info on parents or guardians though. He didn't find it too surprising. There was good portion of people that went to Nintendo High and grew up almost never even knowing their folks.
After finishing reading the rest of the documents, Aaron folded them up and put them away and decided to hang out in the halls until free period was up.
He's currently sitting down in front of some lockers, sketching away in the blueprint sketchbook that he happened to bring today.
In his other hand was his camera, and on the screen was a picture Aaron took of a POW block.
We can hear him mutter as he drew, "Design's easy to follow, but the combustion might be a puzzle...as for the color, maybe something orange?"
He got sidetracked for a split moment when he heard the praises of a forming crowd.
He glanced down the hall a bit, and low and behold, like yesterday, a crowd of students were fawning over Bowser, who seemed to have come to school in in his dad's car.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the king has arrived." Aaron commented sarcastically to himself before going back to his sketching.
He stopped however when the next thing he heard from the crowd wasn't a word of praise.
"Geez...Do you think he's compensating for something?"
Even Aaron snorted as the crowd around Bowser laughed at that.
He looked away from his work and spotted a duo outside the crowd. It was two boys he didn't recognize: one in red, the other in green. Both wearing matching hats which each respectively had the letters M and L which he assumed were their initials.
The taller one, the one in green, tried to shush the other.
"Oh, we've got two tough guys over here!"
Too bad Bowser found out it was them.
The jock towered over them. "Look, everyone! It's the Super Coward Brothers talking behind my back."
The taller boy in green nervously said, "Uhhh, h-hi, Mr. Bowser, sir. I heard you're like the king of this school and all..." he hesitantly laughed.
Bowser was unphased.
"I'm, uh, Luigi! And my bro didn't mean to didn't mean to say that about y-"
"SHUT IT, BEANPOLE!" Bowser fumed, making Luigi recoil, "No one talks to Bowser like that and gets away with it!"
Well, there's Aaron, but let's not worry about technicalities.
The other boy wasn't intimidated. "Mamma mia...Are you sure you're not in the drama club? You're giving a great performance."
"Mario!" Luigi cried.
"Mario, hmm?" Bowser pointed a finger towards his chest. "So this is the jokester. Well, funny guy, I'm gonna make sure your semester is miserable!"
Bowser laughed to himself. "See you two around..." He then made his leave.
Luigi wasn't proud of his brother's actions.
"Oh, great going, Mario! You just had to open your mouth and insult the most popular guy in school!"
Mario let his eyes roll.
"'Most popular'? Ha!"
The brothers looked over and saw Aaron walk his way towards them.
"More like 'most modest'." he said, "Mario and Luigi, right? Name's Aaron. I was tasked to orientate you guys."
Luigi's disapproval went away in an instant, when he heard Aaron's name. "Oh, I've heard of you! You're the guy from the other world! You're gonna show us around the school?"
"You bet. The principal gave you guys my schedule for the rest of the week so I can show you guys what's what. You guys can drop your stuff off at your lockers real quick and meet me back here."
"Sure thing." Mario and Luigi started to walk off.
Leaning against the wall, Aaron said as they left, "And don't worry about ol' Koopa King. He's just another jerk that's all hot air and nothing going on upstairs."
Mario let out a snicker which brought back Luigi's disapproval.
Mario noticed it but wasn't sorry. "What? I'm not scared of him either. Every school has that guy who thinks he runs the show."
Luigi folded his arms. "Yeah, and that's why we keep moving from school to school. Mom and Dad wouldn't have liked to see you do-"
"STOP BRINGING UP MOM AND DAD ALL THE TIME!"
Mario's outburst took Luigi aback and git Aaron's attention.
"They're gone! If they cared, they'd be here right now!"
"That's...That's not true..."
"Yes, it is!" Mario stormed off ahead of Luigi. "I'm going to my locker alone."
Luigi looked guilty. He didn't mean to make his bro upset.
He felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked and saw Aaron's face.
"How about I talk to him, and we both meet you back at your locker?"
"...Alright." Luigi glumly walked off to find his locker, while Aaron marched in the direction Mario went in.
He managed to catch up and found him. Then he felt a corner of his mouth raise.
Mario, cheeks as red as his hat, was talking to a blonde girl wearing a pink dress and crown.
This was another friend of Aaron's: Princess of the cheerleading team, Peach Toadstool.
After their conversation had ended and Peach left with a wave goodbye, Aaron walked up to Mario in time to hear him say, "Wow, Luigi was right."
"I see you've met the princess."
Startled, Mario jumped to his toes before turning to see Aaron, and the first thing he saw was his smirk.
He shook his head, trying to shake away his embarrassment, turning Ace's smirk into a laugh.
Aaron wiped away fake tears before turning sympathetic. "So...things with your bro got a little...heated."
Mario sighed hearing that. "Alright, maybe I got a little tense, but it's just-"
Aaron stopped him quickly. "You don't gotta tell me. This sounds like a family matter, and I'd feel guilty if I got involved and picked a side. Whatever you gotta say, say it to Luigi. It's not good for you both to argue like this."
Now, Mario felt guilty. He didn't mean to snap at his brother.
It was just, well- *sigh* Can you really blame him? I mean, their folks just up and left one night and didn't come back.
While they were just starting to talk, mind you.
...But, that still wasn't a good excuse to lose his cool at Luigi.
"You're right. I need to apologize."
"Happy to hear that. Now c'mon, we gotta school day finish."
Aaron led the way to Luigi's locker, with Mario following behind.
When they made it to Luigi's locker, they saw the younger but taller brother sorting his stuff inside.
From behind him, Aaron spotted a pair of troublemakers behind Luigi.
Coincidently, they were brothers who were similar to new students, and even had similar names: Wario and Waluigi.
They were looking at Luigi with sinister looks.
Aaron pulled a question block out his jacket whistled. That got the Wah Bros. attention, and they looked over and spotted Aaron tossing the block in his pocket up and down.
The both of them grumbled to themselves and begrudgingly walked away.
Mario saw this and didn't say anything, but from what he did gather from this was that those two weren't the friendliest.
Luigi closed his locker and turned his head to see Aaron and Mario standing not too far.
"Ready to go?"
Luigi nodded and followed Aaron alongside Mario. Although, neither of them looked at each other, both too guilt ridden to say anything to each other.
Aaron could sense it behind him, and really hoped things would get better before the day ended.
Cue montage!
Throughout the first two periods, things have been pretty chill...sorta.
Since the Mario Bros. were new, they had it easy during classes. The teachers called on them each once during geography and biology.
It's the transition time in between where the 'sorta' comes in.
Because of Mario's fearlessness against Bowser, he got some recognition from some of the other students, like some of the jocks that Aaron knew like Donkey Kong and Falcon.
He made some friends fast.
As for Luigi, he somehow got pushed and shoved a lot by some rushing student groups. He was nearly trampled by a group of Wigglers had it not been for Aaron pulling him out of the way in time.
Aaron was glad he was alright, but Luigi looked ahead and saw his brother walking off with his new friends, feeling a little left out and unlucky.
He felt a little better when Aaron patted him on his back, but again, only a little.
It's time for lunch, and the cafeteria was packed.
Mario was with the cool kids in line, and for his lunch, he got something sweet and creamy in the shape of an Alcremie.
He even got to sit with them at their table and joined in on the fun when Falcon got his cap taken.
Funny for the group, but not for Falcon.
Luigi on the other hand was in line ahead of some Boos, and between you and me, he wasn't the bravest around ghosts.
For his lunch, he got something yucky and slimy in the shape of a Muk.
Even worse, he saw none of the other tables had room for him to sit. Even worser, when he was about to take a step to ask anyone if it was okay to sit with them, he slipped on a random banana peel on the ground.
Luckily, Aaron caught him with his right arm and caught his lunch tray with his left, just in time.
But he forgot about Luigi's milk carton, which landed on the boy's head and splattered upon impact, soiling his hat and hair.
Seeing his downcast facial expression, Aaron pulled him along to sit with him at his usual table.
As you remember, after math came gym, and today, Coach W. had them playing football.
Being the small but strong powerhouse that Mario was, he was an ace at this. He was running across the field with the ball in his arms, and no one was stopping him.
But for his younger brother, things weren't as lucky.
Some jerky jocks had him bound and tied up on one of the football tackle dummies.
He struggled to get free, but to no avail.
He gave up with a sigh, excepting that he was stuck and just waited for Aaron to get him out like he did all day.
Only thing was, Aaron wasn't a football fan and was allowed to sit this lesson out. He was actually in storage closet, making sure all the sports gear was up to code.
Suddenly, Luigi heard quick and heavy footsteps coming his way.
He looked ahead then let out a panicked cry when a student by the name of Chuck came charging right for him.
*CRASH!*
End montage!
We cut to Nurse Joy's office where Mario and Aaron were watching Luigi's unconscious form on one of the beds.
"Hey, he's coming to." Aaron noticed him rocking.
"Hey, bro. You're awake." Mario said with a smile as his younger brother's eyes started to open, "Chuck hit ya' pretty hard back there, didn't he?"
Luigi tried to get his thoughts straight. "Ugh...mama mia, my head..."
While they were here, Mario decided that he should finally give his apology.
"Hey, man?" Mario started, "I just wanted to apologize for everything I said earlier. You were right! School is fun! And about-"
He was about to continue, but both him and Aaron watched has he gloomily slid his bed to the edge of the bed.
"I just...want...to go...home."
Aaron asked, "You okay, Luigi? Oop- Sorry, dumb question. Look, I know you didn't have the best first day, but it's just one day. Things can always be better tomorrow."
Mario followed up, "Yeah, I'm sure tomorrow can be as fun as I had it."
"That's easy for YOU to say!" Luigi whipped his head around at them, showing his tears.
That took the boys by surprise.
"I was alone ALL DAY getting beat and-and pushed around! If it wasn't for Aaron, I've would've been ignored too! Maybe if you thought about anyone but yourself for ONCE, you would'a noticed how bad my day has been!"
As if Mario still feel guilty from this morning. "Look, I-"
"I thought this was gonna be my time to shine...A-A new start for me! You know, everywhere I go I get stepped on and overlooked!"
Luigi started sniffling. "You won't ever know what it's like...To be number two."
As if to escape, Luigi snatched his had from the bedside table, and ran out of the office, tears flowing down his face.
Mario and Aaron ran after him, but he was already out the door by the time they reached Nurse Joy's front desk.
She scoffed at the scene. "Crybaby."
Mario sighed as they both went to the door. "I really messed up..."
"Hey, don't feel too bad." Aaron assured, "There's always a point where you get so caught up in a certain part of your life, everything else slips away."
They entered the hall and walked after Luigi.
"Well, I shouldn't have let this slip away...I need to make this right."
Aaron looked ahead where Luigi's locker was. His smile disappeared on the sight in front of him.
"I think you might get your chance."
Mario looked ahead too, and his face matched Aaron's.
Wario and Waluigi were messing with Luigi, asking for a 'toll' so he can get into his own locker.
Seeing as Aaron wasn't in the area at the moment this time, they made their move.
That led to Luigi shoving them both out of the way, cause if his mood. And that led to Wario shoving Luigi against the lockers.
Miffed at what just happened, Mario got their attention, "Hey! Back off!"
"Mario!" Luigi cried, seeing his brother here to help him.
"Aww, Short-stack's here to save his brother." Waluigi taunted.
"How romantic." Wario followed. "Let's add this to this brotherly beatdown! Two for the price of one! *laughs*"
Mario smirked. He looked at Aaron. "Mind if I?"
Aaron gave a smirk of his own. "No skin off my nose. Go for it." He took some steps back and did...something important offscreen.
Waluigi got down into a starting position. "I got him!" He charged towards Mario.
Mario's smirk never left and he didn't even flinch.
"Let's-a-go."
As Waluigi came, Mario did a big leap in the air. When he came down, his feet planted onto the Wah Bro's head hard. Mario somersaulted off him, while the stomp he gave Waluigi got him faceplanting the floor.
Seeing his brother on the floor, Wario got angry. He came shoulder-charging towards Mario, his feet moving fast.
Undeterred, Mario did the same as he did to Waluigi. He jumped in the air, stomped in the air.
That stomp made Wario charge off course and he was heading straight for another student; a happy-go-lucky mushroom headed guy called Toad.
The charge came so fast and hard, right when Toad saw him a screamed, the two of them went into the wall with a loud *CRASH!*!
Oof, and the fun guy just got his ankle relocated from that tumble down the stairs a week ago.
All in all, Mario had saved Luigi.
"Mario, you saved me!" Luigi praised.
"Slick moves, Jumpman." Aaron commented as he came back onto the scene.
"Heh, yeah,...It's the least I could do after ditching you." He turned to his bro. "Luigi, I'm sorry. I was selfish, I was wrong, I wasn't acting like a brother."
Luigi responded, "Eh...It's alright. I was just mad you were having a good day and, you know, I wasn't? I was a little jealous, I guess. Heh...And about this morning-"
"It's okay. I think I should be apologizing for that."
The brothers smiled at each other before remembering Aaron was here.
"And Aaron, thanks for talking to me and looking out for Luigi." Mario thanked.
"Yeah, I think my day would've been worse without you around.
Aaron shrugged. "I'm not one to let firsts get me down. You think your day was something? When I first showed up in this world, I plunged into moat."
Mario and Luigi: "Whoa."
"Yeah, my jacket had to be washed twenty-one times to get the moat water smell out."
The three of them laughed.
After Mario put an arm around Luigi, "See bro? There's good days, and there's bad days. We'll get through Nintendo High together!"
"Not without me you ain't!" Aaron cut between them and put an arm around each brother. "Consider yourselves friended. We'll be a regular trio!"
"A Superstar Trio!" Luigi put his fist out, and Mario and Aaron fist bumped it.
Then all three of them leaped into the air, fists up, right as the bell rung, completing the Mario Bros. first day.
