Bao Yileng opened the file, and his expression turned cold.
The more he read the angrier he became.
He knew the crimes of his ex-fiance Ai Chi Shi had been much but he hadn't expected how badly she had not only messed with his life but that of the other.
It wasn't a simple aphrodisiac, something he knew he would have been able to fight off, no she had slipped him a concoction made from one of the rival shops to Master Tuo's (one that cared more about profit than integrity). Master Tuo had warned him that evening that there was darkness afoot and a passing by of fate would occur. But the old doctor was known to be cryptic, and despite the great respect Bao Yileng had for him he didn't give as much merit to his message as he should have.
In her hopes to snare him in marriage she had fed him a love potion (he would have chuckled if he hadn't remembered how the effects had clouded his senses making the object of his desire the only thing that mattered in his world). Ai Chi Shi had not been clever though, she had planned to take a portion to but instead set it aside foolishly. A vindictive customer gave it to an intern of the hotel (the maiden he'd sought) and then the rest was history.
He leaned back in his chair, he remembered they both looked at each other like they were the only two in the room. Quickly finding a suite to themselves he had made love to the woman, unknowing they were both not consenting to the haze that clouded their senses.
The next morning he only remembered a hazy version of the woman from the night before. He was called away on a mission, to find stolen treasure in Country M. It took him three years to find it, only to be ambushed. He nearly died that day. A bullet missed his heart by 0.001 millimeters. He fell into a coma, a coma for a year that all had given up hope except for Master Tuo who nursed him back to waking.
It took him until now to find anything about that woman that night.
Her name was Wen Xiaoxiao, 23 years old and had a child. Her parents had died in a car accident when she was fifteen, she'd lived on her own since then.
With her inheritance she attended a prestigious university only to expelled when they found out she'd gotten pregnant after an encounter with a man at the hotel she interned at.
The rage burned through his veins. She was an innocent and yet she'd been caught up in that vile Ai Chi Shi's schemes, losing so much already and even more do to them.
The ringing of his phone had him answering with a gruff voice.
The soft tones of his mother answered, "Yileng, why did you break off the engagement with Chi Si? You broke her heart, how could you?"
Bai Yileng grit his teeth, "Mom, do you not know what Ai Chi Shi has done." His voice raised higher and higher as he told exactly what she'd done. How she'd never been loyal to him and yet still sought to frame him. How she ruined a innocent's life because of her greed. "I will send you the file, mother."
He could hear his mother thinking even as the sickly pitiful cries of Ai Chi Shi came over the phone's speaker. He knew how fond his mother was of the chit, being the child of her best friend, but that didn't give her a pass on her evil deeds.
"When you see the file you'll understand why I cancelled the engagement." He hung up, let out a long breath trying to untense after the conversation.
Qin Ye, his subordinate, walked in. "Colonel."
"Take these files to mother at the Emperor Hotel."
After his subordinate left, Bao Yileng's long fingers caressed the picture of Wen Xiaoxioa's face. Such a tender, youthful face, such a bright smile and large dark amber eyes that twinkled like stars. "What a sweet, kind face...so much better than Ai Chi Shi."
