A/N: I forgot to write this chapter and had to bang it out super quick before getting it out to you guys. It's a little shorter and it's where the episodes ends. We're going to have a mix of Con's continued breakdowns and a bit of Steve and Rowan next month I promise! Please enjoy and don't forget to leave me a review.

Chapter 459

He had only gotten through half the returns when he got a call from Steven. A request for help. He was making a move on a commune in the jungles of Kalihi Valley, could use the help of an assassin, someone who could sneak up when Steve had to go through the front door.

He hadn't wanted to. He had so much on his plate, having to help Five-0 was just added stress. But then he thought about Rowan and how she'd want him to help her husband. And he remembered his girlfriend and how if he went with them, he could see her. Seeing as he'd been too busy and too tired to really spend the kind of time on her that a girlfriend needed.

She had been super understanding so far, but he knew that he was pushing his luck.

So he had been forced to leave Vito with the girl, trusting the older man to get as much of Danny's money back as possible. They were already shit out of luck on the Adonis, with it's very strict, I-don't-care-how-much-you-threaten-me no returns policy. Luckily for him, Rowan had already texted asking to bring the Adonis to her. Apparently, she had a place for him over at the McGarrett household. Something he was not going to think too much about.

So he had met Steve at the mouth of the Kalihi Valley in Wo's Audi, already strapped to the teeth with all the weapons he figured he need. This was going to be a trek, so he left his leather jacket behind, and let his under-arm holsters hang free.

They had started the hike together and then split off when they got close. Steve and his team heading up towards the front of the commune, Con heading towards the back of it with the plan of making his way through and neutralizing any threats. Not that he thought very many would be there.

This wasn't a Jonestown kind of commune. There were barely 20 people there.

As soon as he saw the settlement he took his mask out from where he had stashed in his back waistband and put it on his face. If he was going to work, he was going to look the part.

He should have had at least one other person with him, someone to give him back up if need be. Steve had asked if he really needed that, he was the great Sin Nombre after all, and well… pride took over after that. He didn't want Steve knowing just how tired he actually was.

Right now it was a running joke. No one really believed him when he said he was getting close to snapping if he didn't get to nap. And he wanted it to stay that way.

"Five-0! Hands, right now, hands where we can see them!"

Steve's voice carried through the compound and the jungle. Con watched as a swarm of men as they rushed to their rifles and shotguns before moving towards where Steve's voice had sounded. He counted maybe five of them.

Yeah, Steve could deal with that. In fact, Con wasn't even sure Steve really needed him.

Con quietly made his way through the now empty buildings, everyone having moved forward to see what the commotion was about. He heard Steve ask for Devin Walsh, heard the click of those weapons loading as they stepped towards Steve.

He was technically outnumbered. Four guys to their five, but Con knew that Steve wouldn't back down. Steve wouldn't even back down if he was outnumbered five to one.

To his right came movement and he stopped. He patiently watched a man come out of what had to be the main building. It was the largest after all. He would also guess that this was their guy.

It was the way he held himself. Like he was bigger and more important than he actually was. Con had come up against a lot of people like that. They always cracked first, cried the most, and would offer their first born to get out of it. It never worked on Con.

Devin Walsh moved towards Steve like Steve wasn't the biggest threat he'd ever come up again. Which was fair, his biggest threat was behind him, he just didn't know that yet.

"What is this?" he called to Steve.

"Devin Walsh, Five-0. We're here to bring you in. Tell your people to put their weapons down."

Con, who was busy pulling a single pistol out of one of his under-arm holster and checking to make sure it was loaded and ready to go, didn't even have to look up to know that Devin's people hadn't done that. And they wouldn't either.

Silence met his demand. No weapons were lowered. Steve just kept moving.

"You already have the blood of two men on your hands. If these people do not lower their weapons, they are gonna get hurt."

"My students will do what they feel is right. It's out of my hands," Devin told Steve and Con decided he had had enough.

Calmly and yet quickly, Con crossed the distance between him and Devin, and simply put the gun to the back of his head. Making sure the man felt the muzzle hit his scalp.

Devin froze immediately and though he couldn't see his face, he'd guess that his eyes had bugged out in surprise.

Yeah, Con was too tired for this.

"Tell 'em to put the guns down or I'll shoot you in the face… from behind," he ordered, taking a note from Wo and pitching his voice lower than it was so he sounded more dangerous. Devin, however, didn't answer. While he had raised his hands in surrender, he seemed to be incapable of giving the order. Or maybe he thought Con was like Steve and wouldn't actually pull the trigger. "I'm running on three hours of sleep and a fuck tonne of caffeine. I am not the one, but I dare you to fucking try me."

At that one of his men turned, the rifle in his hands pointing at Con. Steve shouted in warning, moved forward, no doubt to shoot but Con was quicker. He pulled the second gun out of its under-arm holster, took aim and pulled the trigger without a single word of warning. The bullet caught the man in the shoulder sending him sprawling to the ground, the rifle clattering out of his hands.

Con knocked the first gun back into Devin's head. "Next bullet's in you. Tell 'em to put them down."

"Put them down, for the love of god, put them down," Devin ordered and his acolytes followed his directions.

"Now, you're gonna be good for Five-0, aren't yah, Devin," he said as Steve came towards them.

"Yes, yes… I'll…" he stated but Steve had gotten to them by then. He took a hold of Devin, got him cuffed and then turned to Con to look him up and down.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

If Con liked Steve, he'd've cared about the concern the man was showing. But he didn't so it was just annoying.

"I'm fine, no thanks to you," he snapped. "Can I go home now?"

"Yeah, sure… just… you know you didn't have to come. You could have told me, you know… if you weren't feeling well or something."

Con frowned at him. Like Steve ever gave them the option to say no. If he did he pulled out those favours the brothers still owed him and he'd be honour bound to do it.

"You know what. Fuck you. You are so ungrateful!" he snapped causing Steve's eyebrows to furrow.

Steve tried to call for him, told him they could go back together, but Con refused. He hiked the rest of the way back to Wo's Audi as fast as he could so he could leave McGarrett and Five-0 behind.

He deserved a nap.

And he was going to fucking get it before any more McGarretts fucked up his chances.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

Con got out of the jungle to texts from Rowan saying he could come pick up dinner at her place. As a thank you for helping out so much that day.

When he got the McGarrett Homestead, both Rowan and Jian were there to give him a hug. She handed him a tinfoil wrapped plate of what would turn out to be his favourite fish meal with vegetables and rice on the side, for him to take back to his place. Rowan told him to rest, to sleep, and not worry about them. She'd monitor the strings and keep her and Jian safe since he seemed to be super worried about that lately.

If he wasn't so tired that would have raised red flags. They didn't want Rowan realizing what was happening after all, and it sort of sounded like she was starting to figure it out. Honestly that was a job for a Con that had gotten more sleep.

So he went back to his house, reported on the day to Wo so he wouldn't worry, ate his dinner and promptly passed out.

And it had been such a good sleep. Nice and deep with good dreams to boot, so he wasn't too pleased when an insistent ringing woke him up.

He forced his eyes opened, groggily realized his phone was ringing and reached for it. He swiped it off the bedside table and brought the screen as close to his face as he could muster. The screen was so bright in the darkness and his eyes were so fuzzy and unfocused that it took him a moment to realize that it was Rowan calling him.

He was more so blinded by the fact that it was five in the fucking morning.

Why the fuck was she calling him so early?

"Someone better be dying," he grumbled into his phone.

"Well… I don't know about dying, but someone's definitely in danger?"

Con sat up right away. Fuck. Fuck. Fucking fuck. He threw his legs over the edge of the bed and reached for his pants.

"Who? You? Steve? Nahele? Who? Where?"

"Calm down," Ro said softly. "It's Adam."

That was meant to calm him, but it wasn't considering what they had Adam doing. That Rowan wasn't supposed to know about.

"Adam? Something happen to Adam?"

"I think it's already happened but I believe someone has broken into his house and tazed him."

Con's eyes narrowed. "Already… happened?"

"Mhmm, if the dream is right it happened last night."

It didn't seem right for Rowan to have gone off of just a dream and then call him. "Did you check the strings?"

"I did."

He waited for more information but didn't get it. "Did you confirm it?"

"I did. They've taken him to an old shipping container in the jungle. I can tell you where. If you have the time to go and get him for me, that is. I know you're tired and all."

"Yeah, I'll go get him. Who else would go get him?"

"I could send Steve."

At that Con snorted. Couldn't help it. It was silly to think of anyone other than him going in this situation.

"Steve would just call me to go with him and you know it," he said with a sigh. "Do you know who grabbed him?"

"Yakuza I think."

"Why the hell would they grab him?" he asked before he could stop himself.

"I unno, I'm guessing it has everything to do with whatever it is you, Wo and Steve don't want me to know about."

Con froze as he let that sink in. Damn, she had finally looked at the strings.

"Aw Mami…."

"No, no, don't worry. I won't ruin the surprise."

Con reached for a fresh white tee-shirt. That sentence was rather… suspicious. "Surprise? Rowan… do you know… how much do you know about what's going on?"

"About what? About Wo losing his territory? About Adam trying to sus out the Big-Bad all on his own? About how you guys lost all your allies and you're basically fighting an island by yourself? Or about how every time you dig for info you have to shoot your way out? I've been losing sleep fixing your strings to make sure you get out a live, by the way."

Holy. Shit. Rowan definitely knew what was going on. She had probably known what was going on for a very long time. That she had been letting them run around all panicked while she had all the answers.

"I mean… you'd think you guys would have learned your lesson by now. But since you guys wanted me to stay back for my own protection…"

"Rowan you're pregnant, we didn't want to get you involved."

"And any one of you could have communicated that and asked what me and my strings knew," she reminded him and he tried not to groan. She was right, of course, but damn.

"You know who's behind this… don't you?"

"I do," she said in such a matter-of-fact way that he knew that she wasn't lying. Jesus Christ all this drama and worry and she had… she knew? The whole time? And because they didn't talk to her about it, she just… very pettily… refused to acknowledge it? That was fucked up.

That was so Rowan.

"Ay, dios mio ayudame! How long have you known?"

"Uh… couple weeks. Don't worry, we'll get her I just need a few things to happen first," she said and he nodded again, though she couldn't see that. Okay, so she wasn't holding things back because she was petty, the strings weren't letting her intervene yet. That made a bit more sense.

"Of course. Wait… her?"

"Not important right now. We have to get Adam first…"

Con started. He had almost forgotten about that part. He quickly pulled his white Tee-shirt over his head.

"Yeah, yeah, just tell me where he is."

God. At this rate he wasn't going to get a good night's sleep any time soon.
