Primrose chews on her bottom lips as she avoids the intense gaze of her friend, Lilian. Despite coming to her office with a big apology gift, the brunette is still very mad as she is sitting in her office chair, crossing her arms and huffing annoyingly.
"Lilian, you want something to eat?"
A long awkward silence between them.
"Lilian, how about I order boba?"
Another pregnant silence between them.
"Lilian…" Primrose trails off a bit before continuing "I'm here to give you my wedding invitation."
Now she finally has the brunette's full attention.
"Wait, what?" she jumps on her friend, grabbing onto her shoulders "You and Caleb? When did he propose to you?"
Primrose's face is a mixture of surprise to amused to also burst out in laughter. The revelation finally slaps Lilian in the face as she realizes that what the raven head just said is a jest. Huffing angrily at her friend, she crosses her arms again, feeling silly for believing in that joke.
"Come on, I brought a gift for you. At least try it to see if you like it or not?"
"Hmph…"
Lilian glances at the pretty gift box on the desk and opens it, inside lay two bottles of wine imported from Mt. Komorebi and her eyes sparkle immediately. Nothing can charm the brunette more than a good bottle of wine and Primrose silently thanks her dad for allowing her to use the artifact to get the gift box in .
"Well, I suppose this gift is acceptable…"
Primrose sweatdrops at her comment, a lovely smile forming on her lips when Lilian finally turns her attention to the raven head.
"So, you and Caleb are an item now?"
"O-oh… well…"
A blush adorns her face as the water mage nods her head, feeling embarrassed at how deadpan Lilian's comment is. Known for her straightforwardness, the brunette never shies away from teasing her friend about the budding connection she has with Caleb.
"And here I thought you guys are still getting to know each other. You sure know how to act fast, Prims!"
"Lilian!"
The raven head exclaims loudly at her friend's jesting words, knowing how much she is enjoying herself seeing Primrose's face turn crimson at the joke. Lilian can't help herself, not when she knows how amusing it is to see her friend's connection with the dashing surgeon become more fluffy each day passing by.
When Caleb returns from his break, Lilian can see how heartbroken most of their female coworkers are when the young lord discloses that he is seeing someone. Even when the brunette is in a completely different building, she can hear the agonizing wails of those heartbroken maidens when they realize that Caleb is no longer single.
And even if he is single, Lilian knows that none of them can stand a chance. The shared history Primrose and Caleb have and how he is actively pursuing her means that no one holds the key to his heart besides the lovely raven head. To see how happy and glowing her friend is by the vampire lord's side, Lilian can't help but feel proud of herself. She is the one who keeps pushing Primrose towards Caleb after all.
"Oh, I heard that the arranged marriage between Don Lothario and Ember is no more, right?"
"Yes, she is now by Nathaniel's side." Primrose nods "I'm so happy for them."
"Me too! Honestly, I can't even imagine him being with Ember, that walking STD man." Lilian huffs "You were smart to ask me to keep an eye on them."
"Thank you for doing that, I could never juggle handling their problem and my grandma's health at the same time."
Primrose feels bad that she has to continue this white lie and keep Lilian in the dark, but if it means keeping her friend from knowing about her magical background, she is willing to do it. The brunette is the only human friend she has, Primrose can not take the risk and expose her to the world of supernaturals. She fears that it will ruin the beautiful friendship they have built through the years.
"Do you also know that the club Don Lothario attends regularly is now under the watchful eyes of the authorities?"
"Come again please?" Primrose blinks a few times, she doesn't know about this.
"Keep this between us. A coworker of mine told me that she saw cops around that place last week investigating the club owner about some dangerous human trafficking cases."
Primrose nods, listening attentively to her friend's words. It seems like Lilith is doing everything she can to put Don Lothario in jail and she can't help but feel satisfied about it. That scumbag of a human has done much worse to everyone around her, she hopes he will be trialed for the crime he has committed on the community, as well as her younger brother.
And yet, somehow, Primrose can't shake the odd feeling that something more sinister is lying underneath this human trafficking case. The more she thinks about it, the involvement of Lilith in this case makes her wonder if Caleb has anything to do with the ordeal.
"Well, I hope that he serves his time in jail." Lilian takes a sip of her tea "And be careful, Primrose. Until this human trafficking case comes to an end, you need to be on high alert at all times."
"You too, Lilian. I don't know what I would do if something happened to you."
"Hello, Miss Prosecutor!" Don Lothario leers at the tall woman in front of him, smirking as he eyes her curves "What brings you here today?"
"Don Lothario, you are under arrest!"
Lilith flips her lush raven hair, in her hand is an arrest warrant with his name on it. The man scoffs at her, finding the antic quite amusing.
He has been in this situation before, the previous prosecutor had tried to get him arrested, but everything was in vain. With one phone call, Don was able to strip that prosecutor from his position and that man disappeared a few days later, leaving no trace for police to investigate.
He can do the same thing to Lilith, or even better, have her become one of his girls instead. The younger Vatore is a beautiful woman, it would be a lie if he said he doesn't want to add her to his collection. That prideful look on her face, Don Lothario wonders what other expression she will make when she realizes how powerful he is. He loves his woman spicy after all and Lilith is the prime example of that prideful woman he wishes to ravish.
"For what, if I may ask?"
"For the crime you have committed against this community. If you want, I can show you all the evidence when we see each other in the interrogation room."
"Hah, such powerful words coming from that lovely mouth of yours. I wonder what else it can do."
Lilith raises a brow at his suggestive tone, this is one arrogant scumbag who thinks he is above the law and she will make sure he pays a hefty price for that.
"Should I show you what else my mouth can do? Besides interrogating you, I can put you in jail." she scoffs, eyeing the police force behind her "You either come with us in peace or should I use force on you?"
"My dear, you wound me! Such a beauty like you should not say such horrible words against a charming man like me." Don smirks as he steps closer to her, his lips are right by her ears "Let me remind you who is the boss around here. You don't want to mess with me."
Lilith doesn't faze at the threat. If anything, it only fuels her determination to capture him even more. Not only does she have a duty to protect the weak against this horrible human being, but it is her job to cut off the main blood source of House Bloodhaven. She is a woman who has been through war, such nonsense sprouting out of Don Lothario's mouth is nothing compared to what she and Kian have received for their marriage.
Glaring at Don Lothario one more time, she grabs onto his arm and puts him into an arm lock. The sudden contact on the cold surface of the floor makes him yelp in pain, screaming and swearing at the young Vatore for her audacity.
"You are under arrest, Don Lothario! You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law." she smirks as the man tries to wriggle himself out of her hold "You have a right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you."
"You bitch! Release me! You don't want to mess with me!"
"Oh, no worries! I have no time to entertain your bullshit. Say goodbye to your freedom, Don Lothario."
The police officer handcuffs the man and leads him out of the building in front of everyone's eyes. He continues screaming and cursing at Lilith, telling her she will regret this and that he will ruin her life forever. But the young Vatore smirks at him, it will take him more than a hundred years to be all macho against her. When the police take him out of the building, she and her team begin investigating the club, searching for additional clues that prove his involvement in the human trafficking case.
"Miss Vatore, we found his laptop and other documents with the names of his victims." one officer walks up to her, showing the evidence.
"Very good. Continue your search and gather intel of everyone in this building. We will make sure that man faces the punishment for his crime."
"Roger that."
"The news of Don Lothario's involvement in the ongoing human trafficking case sparks controversy among the elites and politicians, anyone who associates with him immediately becomes the number one suspect of the same crime. This is brought to you by the San Myshuno News…"
Primrose stares at the TV screen, surprised at the news. It is only a few days after her visit to Lilian's office that Don is arrested, she wonders if this is truly karma for the man who has caused her and her family so much trouble lately. The news continues with the story, mentioning the name of Lilith Vatore and how she is leading the investigation against him and his business. When she hears that news, Primrose turns to Caleb, who is chilling on the couch with a book in his hand.
"Caleb, you know anything about this?"
The young lord turns his attention to her and the news, pondering his thoughts. Primrose doesn't know about the investigation House Vatore is doing against House Bloodhaven, the extension of her knowledge only reaches the point of knowing that Don Lothario is involved in this case, anything beyond that has been kept away from her eyes.
"It seems like Lilith is doing her job well."
"What do you mean?" she looks at him, worries filling her eyes "Is there something I should know?"
Caleb shakes his head, he doesn't find the need for his lovely raven head to know about what is happening within House Vatore, even when she is holding the pendant reserved only for the Lady of the House. Primrose and her family just went through a lot of troubles, he can't put more pressure on her by filling her in about House Bloodhaven's evil deeds.
"No, there isn't. Don't worry too much." planting a kiss on her forehead, he reassures her with kind words "It's better for everyone to enjoy the holiday, knowing that one of the biggest criminals is now facing the consequences of his crime."
Despite his reassurance, Primrose can't help but feel a tug in her heartstrings. She should trust Caleb and his words, knowing that he would never lie to her, but her intuition said otherwise. The young lord's nonchalant face is a stark contrast to how tight his grip is on the book he is reading. That kind smile still hangs on his face and yet, the raven head feels a chill run down her spine when she meets his eyes. Those beautiful silver orbs aren't smiling at all…
Seizing the book out of his hold, she sets it on the table before grabbing his hands, feeling those big palms in her small ones. Primrose looks at him, onyx orbs searching for the truth behind that phony smile of his. Her action earns an eyebrow raise from him as he removes one hand from her hold, setting it on her cheeks to feel the softness of her skin.
"Caleb, you're…not hiding anything from me, are you?"
"Why would I?"
The way his smile doesn't reach his eyes unnerves her, but she bites her tongue instead of pushing the conversation. This is the first time she feels like Caleb doesn't trust her with his problem and it irritates her. She wonders if sharing it with her is too much of a hassle or maybe she is not helpful at all…
"Primrose, what's wrong?"
This time, it is his turn to question her. Primrose, known for the way she wears her heart in her sleeves, refuses to meet his gaze. She turns away, eyeing the book on the table instead of looking at him. The irritation still hawks her heart, refusing to leave.
A thumb caresses her chin and presses lightly onto it, helping her release the tension on her bottom lips before Caleb crouches down, closing the gap between them. She is surprised at the sudden display of affection, finding it hard to deny it. His kiss always melts her heart, gentle and sweet, it carries a hint of coffee and she finds herself addicted to it. But the kiss only serves as a mere distraction and Primrose knows that she must maintain her composure if she wants him to speak the truth.
Instead of reciprocating, she has her hands against his chest, slightly pushing him away. Caleb is taken by surprise when she turns her head away, pink lips slightly pouting in annoyance.
"Primrose?"
"You're hiding something…" she murmurs softly "You're not telling me the truth."
"I'm not hiding anything from you, beloved."
His soft laughter sounds like bells ringing in her ears, but she knows better than to fall for his charm.
"You are."
Her midnight-colored eyes shine brightly when she meets his gaze. She may not be able to read what is on his mind, but she trusts her intuition and it tells her that Caleb is hiding his problem.
Looking at the lovely raven head, the vampire lord finds it endearing that she is able to read him like that. Primrose still rests her hands on his chest, feeling the thumping of his heart. The silence between them allows his heartbeat to thump louder, echoing in the still air. Her lips seal a thin line, pouting adorably as he refuses to share his problems with her.
"We are together, are we not?" she asks again "Or am I not much of a help when it comes to your issues?"
"No, why would you say that?" he shakes his head, both hands on her cheeks as he brings her attention onto him "You have always been someone who I can rely on, Primrose."
"Then why don't you tell me the truth?"
Caleb stares at her, silver orbs locking on her onyx ones. Primrose continues to press on the topic, just a little bit more and she will know what is in his mind. But the young lord has a different plan, while he can not hide this problem from her, the least he can do is to keep her away from it as much as he can. Until he has concrete evidence to bring House Bloodhaven's crime to the public eye, it is best if Primrose doesn't know about this.
"I'm sorry, beloved." he shakes his head, feeling a tug in his heart when he sees her disappointment "I will tell you when the time is right. Can you wait until then?"
She looks at him, her lips pursing up at his words. The tenderness in his gaze, how gentle those hands are when they caress her cheeks, how his eyes slightly plead to her, the raven head sighs and nods her head. Primrose respects everyone's boundaries and while she feels annoyed at the idea of being left in the dark, Caleb promises to tell her the truth when the time is right. That is enough for her…
"Thank you…" bringing her face up to meet his gaze again, he smiles "I love you."
With that, he pulls her into a kiss and this time, she accepts it. Holding onto the hem of his vest, she closes her eyes and enjoys the warmth of his arms around her. Caleb tightens his arms, bringing her delicate body against him more as he sneaks a hand into her wavy raven hair, feeling the soft locks against his fingers.
When he pulls away, there is a glint of satisfaction and desire in the depth of his silver orbs. Primrose's face is a pretty crimson color, her eyes are half open, looking at him coyly. No matter how many times they kiss, she still finds it embarrassing to look at him afterward.
"I love you too..." resting her head on his chest, she sighs "Please, tell me soon, okay?"
"I will, beloved…" massaging her scalp lightly, he nods "I promise…"
