KS: What's good, everyone. I'm here with another story to present to you fine readers. I know I've done some bizarre crossovers in the past, but I think this one will go above and beyond in terms of wackiness. And considering the fandom I'm crossing over, that's going to be a given. Now, in order to get a better idea of what's going on, I highly recommend you read my other fic "A Dead Flame", which was inspired by "Ironside", written by GodHand96. I also recommend you read that one beforehand. Trust me on this one. Alright, on with the show.
Anima is by far the most unique continent on Remnant, mainly due to having diverse ecosystems. Cliffs that were shaped by the wind, deserts that burned endlessly, and forests as far as the eye could see. The forests were undoubtably the most beautiful part of Anima. So lush and full of life, unspoiled by human hands or Grimm.
It made walking through the forest path a rather pleasant experience, as one was doing at this moment.
A young woman dressed in gray and yellow robes with a conical straw hat on her head walked along the path, using a walking stick. She was soothed by the sounds of the leaves rustling in the trees and the gentle wind the carried them.
"Showing others that there is always a better way sure is taxing," she said. "I certainly would know."
The woman in question was none other than Yang Xiao Long, now going by the alias of Seiryu. Once an aspiring huntress, she was now a monk affiliated with the Gray Lotus, a spiritual sect based in Mistral. Long ago, after an incident in Atlas that caused the loss of many lives, both civilians and huntsmen alike, she was exiled from the kingdom and wandered around in Mistral until she stumbled upon the temple of the Gray Lotus.
Before formally joining, she destroyed her prosthetic arm in an act of self-loathing, which would continue to persist in the following years. In addition, she suffered from constant panic attacks during meditation, followed by bouts of depression. Yang didn't really mind it, believing she was paying the price for her thoughtless actions and would continue to do so.
Then, a chance meeting with one of the monks changed everything. She offered Yang psychological help in coming to terms with what she had done and looking at the brighter side of life. Yang was skeptical at first, and it took her a literal year to consider taking the monk up on her offer. When she did, she told her everything about the incident, up to and including how it started when a girl needed help searching for an item that was very dear to her. After that, she was reassured that despite the mass loss of life, she can take pride in the fact that she was able to help someone.
With the weight on her shoulders lifted, Yang began to truly live, contributing more to the order. And then, she was selected to go on a pilgrimage, spreading enlightenment to people who were as lost as she once was.
"I can't say that I'm completely healed," she said to herself while walking. "But I'm getting there. It might take me a while, but I will be sure to get there."
She continued on her walk when she saw a sign that that read: "Kasamiko, 50 miles."
"Sounds like a nice village," Yang mused with a smile. "I wonder what the locals will be like."
With spring in her step, the monk walked along the path, determined to reach her destination.
"What the hell...?
But the moment Yang reached the large gate, she noticed something was very off.
The village— which was actually a town, was completely desolate. There was absolutely no sign of life as far she could see. She tentavely took a few steps past the gate, walking deeper and deeper into the town. Suddenly, a loud siren caused her to jolt in surprise, followed by a voice coming from a loudspeaker.
Attention: the security barrier will be activated in 15 seconds. All civilians must be within the town by that time.
Yang was above and beyond confused by what she was hearing. What was all that about a barrier? What kind of town has that kind of technology in Mistral.
The security barrier will be activated in 10 seconds. This is your final warning.
Yang looked back towards the gate, still unsure about what was going on.
Barrier activating in five... four... three... two... one.
With the countdown concluded, a loud whirring sound was heard from far away, and a light shot up into the air. It soon formed a barrier which surrounded the entire town, blocking entry and exit. Yang looked at it and let out a sigh.
"Guess leaving's no longer an option," she remarked. "Better get comfortable until... whatever is happening here blows over."
With that, she walks further into town, determined to find out what was going on.
Yang ventured further into the town. While the far Eastern architecture was vibrant and breathtaking, it was overshadowed by how decayed it look. When she entered the town, it looked abandoned, as if everyone had evacuated. But judging from that announcement she heard earlier, she thought that wasn't the case. And yet, it nothing to dissuade her worries.
"What happened in this town that caused it to seal it off?" she wondered aloud.
Suddenly, a groaning sound broke her from her thoughts. She cautiously walked over to the source and saw the back of a young woman leaning against a wall, groaning to herself.
"Hey, are you alright?" she asked the woman.
The woman, while still groaning, did not turn around to answer. Now that Yang got a closer look, she could see that the woman's skin was unnaturally gray. Something seemed very off about this situation.
"Come on, say something," Yang pressed, lightly shoving the woman.
The woman slowly turned around... and Yang balked shock and horror.
"What the hell...?"
The woman's face was pale like the rest of her skin, and her eyes were bloodshot with blood running down like tears. When she made eye contact with Yang, she let out a snarl and charged at her. Upon instinct, Yang blocked her with her walking stick, then knocked her back.
"What happened to her?" she asked, fearing for her life.
The woman lunged at her, more violently this time around, and grabbed Yang's prosthetic arm. Slightly panicking, pushed the woman into the wall and punched her, leaving her dazed.
"I gotta find some way to get out of here."
She ran off, leaving the woman behind. Running down the street, she saw more of town in shambles. And to make things worse, more people, who showed the same symptoms as the woman from earlier, where seen causing havoc, breaking objects, feasting upon human corpses and overall screaming in the air. The sight of was nothing short of horrible.
A good few of them noticed Yang and chased after her. She rushed further ahead to escape the horde, but they were closing in on her.
"This was not what I was expecting on my pilgrimage!" she exclaimed, running from the monsters.
One of them got extra close, opening its mouth to take a bite out of her.
But before it even got the chance, a gunshot rang out, and its head exploded, much to Yang's shock.
"Huh?!"
"Hey, you!"
A voice caught her attention, and she looked up to see who called out to her. Standing on the rooftop was a young woman with wolf ears, shooting at the monsters that chased her.
"There's a gate on the west side that leads to a safe zone! Keep moving towards it! I'll keep you covered!"
Yang didn't know who the woman was, but considering she was protecting her from these unusual monsters, she had no reason to doubt her.
Following her instructions, she rushed towards the gate and it slightly opened. She heard the horde gaining on her, but more gunshots were heard, and ran faster. She ran past the gate and it closed right behind her.
"Way too close for comfort," the gate operator sighed, resting his hands on the control panel. She looked at Yang, who was dripping with sweat. "You alright, girl?"
Yang took off her hat and wiped the sweat off her brow. "Yeah, I'm alright."
The wolf faunus from earlier arrived and leapt down from a rooftop, landing next to Yang.
"Glad to see you're in one piece," she said. "I never saw a monk move that fast before."
"Well, most monks aren't chased by people who look like they've gone feral," Yang quipped.
The wolf woman allowed a small smirk, finding the remark amusing.
"Well, might as well introduce myself. I'm Texas. You?"
Yang was conflicted for a brief moment about how she should introduce herself. Was she to use her birth name, or the alias she was given?
"Hey, are you alright?" Texas asked.
Yang blinked out of her thoughts when she heard Texas speaking to her.
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine."
"Then, your name?"
Yang took a deep breath, then introduced herself.
"You can call me Seiryu, a monk of the Gray Lotus."
Texas gave a curt nod.
"Good to meet you, Seiryu," Texas replied. "I think you'll be a big help in helping us deal with the Blighted."
Yang stared at her blankly, then spoke.
"…The what?"
KS: And that was the first half of the prologue. The next one will be arriving whenever the mood strikes me, but I hope this piqued some of your interests. Now, as you may have already figured out from the title, this fanfic crosses over RWBY with Dead Rising. I know that one of DR's best features is making combo weapons out of whatever you can find. Now, I consider myself very creative and I even have some ideas for combo weapons. But I'm very interested in hearing what you have to suggest. For anyone who is excited to see more of this fic, feel free to suggest a combo weapon of your own making (give it a really funny name, too) and there is a high chance it will show up in the fic. Until that time, be sure to fave, follow, review and I'll see you when I'll see you. Peace.
