Ordo Hereticus Analysis: Precursor History- In-depth

This document has been made to assist our agents understand the new rising threat in the Imperium, one that is changing the very core of our grand Imperium. I speak of cause about the Flood introduced Precursor History.

As far as our analysis's and observations have uncovered Precursor history has become more and more adopted by a increasing number of human worlds, even with our attempts to slow it. Be it through 'Children' missionaries and/or subterfuge, Flood invasions or even word of mouth from sympathizers or those whom are drawn to the 'grand purpose' of humanity.

That said many are starting to believe the Flood's story, even some of the Aeldari have fallen under their beliefs. So to understand The Flood and their motives, we study their story.

Section 1 of Analysis, study of: Book of the Old

For starters the beginning of Precursor history may of began possibly before our universe was formed. And no the Flood don't say that they created the Universe, only that they later came to it. To begin the Flood, or as they were known so long ago were known as the Precursors. A race of beings that followed two primary and intertwined beliefs, first was that the Universe (as well as all others) were living being into themselves and that all lifeforms inhabiting it were created to enrich it, this is their belief in the 'Living Universe'. The second belief is that of the 'Mantle of Responsibility', that one has a responsibility to nurture, guide and protect life to further enrich the Universe.

These beliefs were the driving force of the Precursors for aeons as they seeded countless Galaxies full of life, until they came upon another galaxy.

The Milky Way

This is the counter part to our Universe, what the Flood dub a 'refection'. A event where areas, big and small reflect each other. However in their words, 'reflections can be skewed'.

In this universe's Milky Way the Precursor continued on as usual, creating life and worlds for them. This was until they decided that it would be soon time for them to leave and to continue on their journey, but to protect the life in this galaxy they would create a guardian race like they did with so many others. The race they created were the Ecumene.

The Ecumene were considered to be bright, but brash. Curious, but dangerously reckless. Kind when they wished, but often violent. As time went on the Precursors saw them less and less as the Mantles intended guardians. And when the Ecumene destroyed them own homeworld through foolish projects, the decision was made that the Ecumene would no longer be the heirs of the Mantle. And thus a new race was made to take up the Mantle, this race?

Humanity.

The Precursor would create humanity and begin to groom them to become the heirs to the Mantle until the Ecumene learnt that they were no longer the intended heirs. The Ecumene enraged seeing their supposed 'birthright' stolen would attack the Precursors, intending to bring them to extinction. The Precursors caught by surprise lost many.

With the Precursors of the Milky Way in shamble, many would run. Fearing not only what the Ecumene would do to them, but also what they would do with their technology as their tech could move galaxies at will. Many ran outside of the Milky Way, some committed suicide to prevent capture, but the ones that came to our universe ran further than any.

Using their arcane technology, they left their believed home universe and arrived in our.

Section 2 of Analysis, study of; Book of Lies

When the Precursors came to our universe, they came when it was young. So young in fact there was believed to be no sapient or sentient in the Universe yet. And thus the weary Precursors rested. Soon though their belief that they were alone was wrong.

As the searched for a suitable home, they found a young amphibian race. One that was developing quite quickly. To those whom may of guessed, these were the Old Ones of our Universe.

The Precursors although hurt and weary, still followed their altruistic beliefs and introduced themselves to the then young Old One's. At first and for a long time thing were cordial and good for both races, the Old One's assisted the Precursors in the ways they could as the Precursors assisted the Old Ones develop.

But at some point something went wrong.

The Old One's were greedy, although good at hiding it. They saw the Precursors technology and wished it their own, they saw the Precursors Mantle and wished to be the sole occupant of its throne and thus they began to scheme. They studied the Precursors form of FTL, a inter-universal drive that could travel from one universe to take you back to another location into ours and experimented what they could do with it.

And what they did was abominable, both in ours and Mantle worships beliefs.

They found a nascent universe, twisted it into something horrifying and grafted it to our universe. The the Precursors and the later Flood, they called it the Great Cancer. To us, we call it the Warp.

The Old One after creating the Warp used it to attack the Precursors, using it also to prevent any from escaping to another universe like they did before. The Precursors once more fearing extinction came up with a plan, they would turn themselves into a dust and reform at a later point. The plan as strange as it sounds, worked. But it wasn't without future consequences.

The Old One's, revealing in their 'victory' began them game of 'God'. destroying any reference to the Precursors from their history, destroying as much advanced Precursor created Xenos and creating many forms of xenos life in their place. And in doing so rewriting history, unaware that the Precursors were still watching them even in their new form.

Eventually, after aeons the War in Heaven happened and the Precursors could only watch in horror as the galaxy was seemingly destroyed around them. Frustration and despair began to change their slowly reforming self's, twisting them into to the Flood we know today. At some point during the war, they reformed and began to plan. Vengeance against the Old One was the will and song of the Universe, and they were its instruments.

The Flood in secret watched in Anger and plotted, noting that the races that Old One made to fight the Necrons were made with fail safes that after the war would either guarantee their servitude or extinction. Two such race were the Krork and the Aeldari, with that the Flood had their weapon. The Kork were their first chose, removing what made them subservient to the Old One's they waited until the war was over. The Old One's planing to destroy the Krork by 'de-evolution' turned the Krork into the Orkz and faced the consequences as the Orkz killed the few remaining Old One's left in existence, finishing the Floods vengeance.

Section 3 of Analysis, study of; Book of Bitterness

The Flood though instead of coming out of hiding were ashamed of what they had become and hid away. But what happened next shook them to the core.

The Warp, with out the Old One's to control it became rampant. Driven by a combination of Old One commands of no one but ruling the Galaxy and the large scale of death thanks to the war created the first three of the Chaos gods, otherwise known to the Flood as the Cancerous Whispers. The Chaos gods using their powers bound the souls and minds the Galaxy to the Warp to influence the material realm, on top of unleashing the Enslavers upon the weary galaxy.

The Flood fearing the death of the galaxy, planed. using Neural Physics they came up with two answers. First was what is translated from their tongue as 'Schrodinger's foresight', the art of enforcing certain future by continuing observing that they will occur. This prevented the Chaos Gods from influencing certain futures from occurring that would of destroyed the galaxy.

Second and the most controversial, is the seeding of Humanity. Desiring that the Galaxy have a worth protector, the Flood ensured Humanities existence and protection for countless millennium. preventing Chaos, Orkz and other Xenos from attacking us early on. It should be noted that they said they noticed our most glorious Emperor born during this time, they also asked to destroy the parking lot on top of his glorious mothers grave.

The Imperial Cult is still thankful and embarrassed at that information, her grave is now a cathedral with many praying to her for forgiveness.

But in their own words, they failed thanks to 'tiredness'. for megaannum they watched the galaxy, watching the flow of time making sure that Chaos didn't come to reign. After so long they need to rest and during that time, the Dark age and Age of Strife occurred.

If the Flood are to be believed, not only is our current era a continuation of the 'War in Heaven' but also that Humanity was created by Xenos. Even if we were given a great purpose, many believe it heresy. Even with so-call 'evidence' many in the upper echelon of the Imperium will deny it out right. But many of the common folk are starting to believe and support Precursor history with even older Xenos races starting to gain Mantle followers. Especially when it has been learnt that the Flood can create their own realm for souls to be protected from the horrors of the Warp.

Precursor history is a... interesting study to say the least. But one can at least hope that it isn't all true.
