Demon's Daughter: Love Across the Divide

Chapter 10

All the Small Things

~Recap~

Leaning against the wall, I took a couple deep nose breaths to help steady my heart that was pounding. As if I had taken adrenaline pills or ate too many sweets. Giving my heart an electrifying major sugar rush. Shaking my head, letting out another groan. Damn you Charlie, why must you be sweeter than cream. Rubbing off of me with this good vibration aura you have around you. Letting out a soft sigh, my attention was drawn to the sound of something next to me. The sound grew, a bright light shuns bright enough almost blinding me, and there I see a large portal opening right before my eyes. Octavia, you're the greatest. My guess is I just jump in to get back. Without wasting any time, I jumped right into the portal. Feeling that similar sucking force pulling me forward.

Unbeknownst to me, someone had been watching from the shadows.

(This is likely going to be a short chapter, but the next one will be better. It will begin with the first episode of Hazbin Hotel and carry on from there. With a few side chapters of Gwen going back and forth to Earth. Stay tune.)

~The Goetia Palace/Via's bedroom/Normal POV~

Octavia had managed things on track during the duration of the hour Gwen was gone. Keeping her father from entering her room and discover what her and Gwen were actually doing. If he found out Octavia had taken and used his book without permission, she was going to receive a long, dull, and boring lecture. That was the last thing she wanted. Too keep the charade going, she played loud music, though not loud enough to have her father come knocking on the door to complain. Keeping it at a good level to ensure he wasn't the wiser. Closed the curtains on each window in her room. Turning on a small projector she hadn't used since she was a child to make stars light up around the room. When she thought she'd done enough, Octavia laid on her bed taking a well-earned break for herself. There was no need to worry about her dad coming in anytime soon. He said he would be working in his office should her and Gwen need anything. Thankfully, he kept his word and had not bothered to check in since delivering snacks an hour before the plan began.

Speaking of an hour, Gwen's was coming to a end. Octavia looked at her phone just when the alarm went off signaling the five minutes Octavia had before she could conjure a new portal and bring Gwen back. Sitting up, jumping off her bed, she pulled the grimoire out from under the pillow. (Yes, she moved the grimoire from under her bed to under her pillow. It was easier to grab that way compared to kneeling and reaching under the bed for it. She also placed a bookmark on the page she would use to conjure another portal.) Octavia opened the book to the page she'd marked. Reading the incantation, holding her right hand out while the other held the grimoire, Octavia had once again conjured another portal in front of her. One that spat out Gwen just as quickly as the first time it sucked her in. As soon as Gwen was out, the portal behind her closed. Octavia dropped the grimoire to help her friend on her feet. Gwen was a tad shaken up, but she would survive.

"Are you alright Gwen?" Octavia was concerned for her friend's well-being. Going through a portal the first time around wasn't as easy as riding a bike.

Gwen shook her head, looking at Octavia, "I'm alright Via, that portal just shook me up a little with that crazy vacuum suction." She wasn't lying. The force of the pull coming and going through the portal nearly knocked the daylights out of her. Good thing she had Octavia to lean on as she was led over to the bed.

As soon as the pair sat down, Octavia began to ask questions. "So, what happened? I wasn't sure where I sent you, but did everything go alright? I didn't send you anywhere sketchy, right? There was no telling where you went but I hope everything was what you were hoping for."

"You did good Via, don't worry about that." Gwen placed a hand on Via's shoulder for comfort, "If anything, you did better than you know." She gave Via a smile, "I apparently ended up north in Canada as crazy as that sounds. Everything had bright colors, the sky was clear and blue, and I met some nice people our age."

"No way, that's great Gwen. You got to make some friends with humans." It was Via's turn to smile, "What were the human teens like?"

"Where do I even begin. I guess the best way to describe them is similar to how the demons and sinners are down here. Some were friendly and others, one in particular, were a pain in the ass."

Via laughed a little hearing that, "That makes sense."

Gwen smiled, looking up at the ceiling as her mind began to wonder, "I did meet this one guy." She started to say which gained Via's interest. Gwen could see the smirk on Via's face from the corner of her eye. "Don't get cocky, it wasn't anything serious."

"Come on Gwen, I can see the faint blush on your face. Whoever this guy is, he obviously had an effect on you." Via pointed out.

Gwen put a hand to her face. Feeling the heat grow on her cheek, Gwen's head moved from looking up at the ceiling to straight forward in shock. The smirk on Via's face grew as she watched her friend come to realize she was right.

"If I didn't know better, I'd say this guy has captured your heart." Via laughed a little.

Gwen couldn't deny the feeling building up in her chest. When she first met Trent, an instant spark ignited in her heart. There was something about him that Gwen found so... so... sweet. As much as she wasn't crazy about using that word, it was the best she could use, and it was true. Trent was a sweet guy. He showed that he cared for Gwen. Showed concern for her well-being. Asking how she was and giving her a sweet smile to boot. When he held her hand in the warmth of his own, how could Gwen not blush.

"Okay fine." Gwen admitted, "Maybe I do like Trent, but what would he see in a girl like me?"

"Come on Gwen, what's not to like about you? You're creative, smart, helpful, you care about others, you're strong, have a great taste in fashion and music, and my best friend." Via stated the facts out for Gwen to understand.

Gwen felt a tad bashful when Via said those things, "Well, I guess I can't deny those facts. Thanks, Via."

"That's what friends are for." The pair hugged one another after that.

Sometimes all one needs is a good friend to talk to. Someone you trust who can keep your secrets and be a support beam during the days when life throws you a curve ball. Sure, parents are reliable when needed, but sometimes, you need a close friend to turn to when the going gets tough. The relationship between Via and Gwen was one that was built on years of trust, kindness, and memories. One that could not be easily broken. That's how strong their friendship is.

Soon as the pair pulled away from the other, Via had another question. "I'm glad your first time on Earth was a success Gwen, but what's going to happen now?"

"What do you mean?" Gwen didn't understand the question Via was asking.

"I mean are you going to want to keep doing this? Go back and forth from Hell to Earth. If you go through with that, I don't know how long we could get away with using my dad's grimoire before he finally notices."

Via had a point there. Stolas would eventually uncover their little operation. Putting a stop to it and informing Gwen's father about her shenanigans. If her father discovered her trip to Earth, not only would she be dragged out of the hotel by force, but she would be put on permanent lockdown until she was as old as her father. No, he couldn't find out about this. He could never find out about this. This whole thing had to remain a secret, but then there was another problem. Should Gwen want to continue going back to Earth she would need to find another way to transport back and forth.

"Your right Via, I didn't even think about that. Hell, I wasn't thinking that far ahead." Gwen told Via as she rubbed her templets. "I know I can't let my dad find out or I'll be forbidden from ever leaving the palace again." Gwen groaned lightly. Placing her head in her hands.

Via patted Gwen's back lightly. "Calm down Gwen, it's going to be alright. He doesn't know that you went to Earth, and you know I won't tell him." Gwen lifted her head up, turning it to look at Via. "Maybe there's another way to get to Earth and back here without using the grimoire. Maybe somebody at your sister's hotel could help you."

Gwen sighed softly. "I'm not so sure about that. I mean, there's Alastor, but even if he could help me, he'd want something in return. Usually someone's soul, and I'm not giving that up. Not to mention I'm not comfortable telling Charlie about this."

"Okay, maybe asking around the hotel might not be a good idea." Via said rubbing her neck looking sheepish. "But maybe there's another way, we just have to find it."

"I guess you're right." Gwen said laying down on the bed. She sighs, talking some more to Via, "Guess I don't have to rush, but I'd like to go back at some point."

I get it Gwen." Via lays down beside her. "You've got to have a little hope. You'll get to go back."

"Yeah... someday, somehow." Gwen sighed deeply as her and Via stared up at the ceiling till, they got hungry and went downstairs to put together some lunch.

And done.

Short and simple if I say so myself.

The next chapter will be longer and more thrilling because I'm going to be going straight in the Hazbin Hotel episodes.

Stay tune for the next chapter everyone!
