Chapter 76
Hi everyone! For those of you that don't follow along with my one-shot series, I wanted to let you know that I started a new series based off a request I got over there. It's called "Toddlers." Emma and Hanna accidentally get turned into toddlers. They have their memories, but start acting younger. The girls get into some mischief and Snow and Charming get a glimpse of what it would be like to have 3 young ones. Check it out if you want! Here the next chapter for this story! Hope you enjoy :)
Hanna felt someone shaking her shoulder.
"Morning sleepyhead."
She opened her eyes and saw her mom sitting beside her.
Snow smiled. "Look at you sleeping in your bed."
Hanna looked around the room. She must have fallen asleep after she got home from Emma's last night.
"You didn't have any nightmares, did you?" Snow asked.
Hanna shook her head.
"See, I told you they would stop." Snow reached down and kissed the top of Hanna's head. "Come on, it's time to get up."
Hanna reached out for her phone to see what time it was. "Why are you waking me up so early?"
"We're going back to school today, remember?"
"Yeah I remember, but you never wake me up this early." This was her first day back in awhile, but she was pretty sure school started the same time it usually did.
"We're going to Emma's first."
"Why?"
"Your dad wants to make us all breakfast." Snow walked over to Hanna's closet and pulled out one of her uniforms. "We're getting things back to normal."
"There's nothing normal about waking up this early." Hanna threw the blanket over her head.
"Oh Hanna, come on," Snow pulled the blanket completely off of her.
"Mom, don't. I'm cold."
Snow laid Hanna's outfit at the foot of her bed. "Put this on. We're leaving in 20 minutes. Please be ready," she said before leaving the room.
Hanna groaned, but did as her mom asked. She got herself ready and they went over to Emma's.
"Here you go," David said as he scooped another pancake onto Emma's plate.
"More pancakes. Usually I'm lucky to get a lukewarm cup of coffee on your way to work."
"Can't a father cook for his daughter?"
"Sure, but I'm sheriff, not a Romanian powerlifter."
"Enjoy the breakfast." David leaned down and kissed the top of her head.
Emma looked up at him. "This is about Hook."
"No."
Snow raised her eyebrows at her husband. "David."
"Fine. It's about Hook. With him moving in, things are gonna be different. We're not gonna see you as much."
"Killian being here is not gonna change anything."
"Yeah right," Hanna said to herself.
"You can come cook me breakfast whenever you want," Emma continued. "These leftovers, however, will probably last the next month or so."
"This is good," Snow smiled. "Things are getting back to normal."
Emma leaned over to Hanna. "Is there anything normal about this many pancakes?"
Hanna looked at Emma, then turned away from her. "Mom, can we go?"
"Sure sweetie." Snow handed the baby to David. "Is Henry ready?"
"I'm ready grandma," Henry said as he came down the stairs.
Just as they headed towards the door, Regina and Jekyll walked in.
"Oh, this can't be good," Snow said.
"We need to talk," Regina said.
"Whatever this is we'll take care of it. You three get to school," David said.
"But Dad…"
"Hanna, we've got this. Go to school." He reached down and kissed the top of her head.
Hanna sighed. She reached out for Neal's hand and gave it a kiss. "Bye buddy."
Hanna went out to the car and walked over to the passenger side only to find that Henry helped himself to the front seat. Hanna rolled her eyes and got into the back, slamming the door shut behind her. She glanced towards the rearview mirror and saw the look her mom was giving her. She quickly shifted her eyes to the window.
"Put your seatbelt on please," Snow said.
Hanna didn't say anything, but did what her mom asked.
"It's good to have you back, Grandma," Henry said as they all walked down the hallway to first period.
Snow smiled. "It's like I never left."
Hanna did not want to be here, but she did like seeing her mom happy. She knew how much she loved teaching. Hanna looked up and saw Violet walk out of a classroom…the one she and Henry were headed towards. Hanna didn't realize she would have to have class with her.
"Morning, Henry," Violet said right before kissing him on the cheek.
"Well, that's different," Snow said.
"That's gross is what it is," Hanna mumbled. Her quiet voice didn't go unnoticed by her mom, who nudged her with her elbow.
"I hope you have a good day, Grandma," Henry said
"You too," Snow said.
Hanna watched as Henry and Violet went into the room.
"Go on, Hanna. Don't you have this class with them?"
"I probably have every class with them."
"Well, get in there, and I'll see you later." Snow reached out for a hug.
Hanna stepped back. "Mom…"
Snow quickly put her arms down. "Sorry."
Hanna turned to leave, but felt her mom gently grab ahold of her arm. Hanna turned back and looked up at her.
"You know another way we can start getting things back to normal?"
"What?"
"By fixing whatever is going on between you and Henry."
Hanna sighed, pulled herself away from her mom, and walked into the room. She picked a seat that was far away from the lovebirds.
Hanna avoided Henry and Violet in every class throughout the morning, and now she was sitting at a lunch table by herself. She was picking at the pizza on her plate when she looked up and noticed a boy walk over to Henry and Violet. Hanna didn't recognize him, so he must have been new in town. He started talking to Violet, and he looked mad. Hanna stood up and went to throw her lunch away. She noticed the boy was getting angrier. She maneuvered herself so she was closer to the situation. The boy was yelling now. Hanna couldn't tell what he was saying, but by this point Henry stood up and put himself in between Violet and the boy. Hanna noticed that the boy towered over Henry. Hanna walked towards them as the boy started pointing his finger in Henry's face. Then his hand formed a fist and pulled back.
"Hey!" Hanna waved her hand, freezing the boy's fist into place. She was beside Henry now, facing the boy.
"What are you doing to me?" The boy tried to push his fist forward, but couldn't.
Hanna smirked as his face became redder. "I'll let you go, but then you need to put your fist down and get out of here."
"Okay, fine," the boy said, still struggling against the magic.
Hanna released her hold. She watched the boy start to turn away, but then he quickly turned back, his fist ready to punch again. Hanna was quicker though, she threw her hand out at him, blasting as much magic as she could. She sent him flying through the air. He landed on one of the tables and broke it in half. Hanna walked over and her eyes went wide when she saw his face. One of his eyes was already starting to swell shut and blood was gushing from his nose.
Hanna found herself sitting in a chair outside the principal's office. She had her knees pulled up to her chest and her face buried in her arms. Why did she do that? Hanna knew she should have just stopped his arm again. Why did she have to blast all that magic at his face? Hanna did hear the paramedics say he would be alright as they took him away. Maybe she wouldn't get into as much trouble if that was the case. Hanna heard someone walking towards her. She looked up and saw her mom and dad. She groaned and hid her face again.
Snow and David knelt down in front of their daughter.
"Hanna look at us," David said.
Hanna slowly lifted her head.
"Are you alright?" Snow asked.
Hanna nodded.
"You weren't hurt?" David asked. All he and Snow were told was that Hanna was in a fight, and they needed to get here right away.
"I'm fine, Dad."
"Where are Violet and Henry?" Snow asked.
"There in the office telling their side of the story."
"Are they okay?" David asked.
"Yeah they're fine."
"Can you tell us what…" David started to ask before the office door opened.
Henry and Violet walked out and before Snow, David or Hanna could say anything to them, they were told to come into the office.
"Please have a seat," Mr. Evanston said.
Hanna sat down in the chair between her parents and told her side of the story. She could barely look at her mom and dad as she told them all what happened. By the time she finished, she felt like she was going to be sick. She knew they were going to be so mad.
"Well, it sounds to me like she was defending her friends," Snow said.
Hanna's mouth fell open, and she looked up at her mom.
"So what do you plan on doing about this?" Snow continued.
"Hanna will be suspended for the rest of the week."
Snow raised her eyebrows. "Suspended?"
"Yes. We don't tolerate fighting at this school."
"She wasn't fighting. She was stopping a fight from happening."
"If you saw that boy's face you would be thinking differently."
"I would be thinking exactly what I'm thinking now. He…"
"Snow." David reached over and held onto his wife's hand, then turned back to the principle. "What's going to happen to this other kid?"
"Calvin? Well, nothing," Mr. Evanston said. "He's at the hospital now getting his nose examined."
"Nothing?" Snow asked. "That boy was about to punch my grandson. My daughter prevented that from happening, and she gets suspended? There are no repercussions for him?"
"He didn't throw any punches."
Snow threw up her hands. "Because Hanna stopped him!"
"And then she sent him flying across the cafeteria."
"From what I hear that boy is almost a foot taller then both of them," Snow said. "What was she suppose to do?"
"Get a teacher?"
"What were the teachers on duty doing while all this was happening?" Snow asked.
"Well, I don't know…"
Snow rolled her eyes. "Jim, I've worked with you for years. Isn't there something you can do?"
"I'm sorry Mary Margaret, but I…"
"It's Snow now."
"Right. Well, I'm afraid the suspension stands. There's nothing I can…"
"You know what…" Snow stood up from the chair. "This conversation is over." She grabbed ahold of Hanna's hand and pulled her towards the door.
"Snow…"
"David, let's go."
Hanna stood in the hallway with her parents and watched her mom pull out her phone. "Who are you calling?"
"Regina," Snow said, holding the phone to her ear.
About a half hour later, Regina arrived.
"Were you able to fix him?" Snow asked.
"Yes, the boy is fine. I fixed his nose, which was broken," Regina glanced down towards Hanna.
Hanna bit her lip to stop herself from smiling.
"And his eye is no longer black and blue," Regina continued.
"Thank you," Snow said. "Now about this." She nodded towards the principle's office.
Hanna looked up at her mom. "I can stay home from school. I don't mind."
"Hanna you're not going to miss school over this," Snow said.
"No she's not." Regina walked into the principal's office, not even bothering to knock.
Hanna followed Regina into the office and noticed the startled look on Mr. Evanston's face.
"Madam Mayor I…"
Regina held her hand up. "Save it. Hanna will be coming to school tomorrow."
"I can't allow…"
"That boy threatened my son!" Regina walked closer to him. "And she stopped it. Where were your teachers on lunch duty? Why didn't they do anything? From what I hear there was an awful lot of yelling before any magic was used."
"I don't know. I…"
"Regina went to the hospital and healed the boy," David said.
"So he's fine," Snow added.
"He also admitted to me that he started the whole confrontation," Regina added.
Hanna could see the beads of sweat starting to form on the principal's face. His eyes darted between the other adults in the room.
"Well if that's the case, then I suppose there will be no punishment this time. But I don't want her using any more magic in this school."
"Tell your teachers to keep a better eye on the students, so my daughter doesn't need to use her magic in the first place," Snow said before leaving the room.
Regina followed her.
David put his arm around Hanna and led her out the door.
"Thank you for stopping him," Regina said once they were out in the hallway.
Hanna shrugged. "It was no big deal."
"But maybe next time, don't blast the magic directly at his face."
"I didn't mean to."
"We'll work on your aim."
"Or maybe you could stick with a freezing spell of some kind?" Snow suggested.
"Where's the fun in that?" Regina asked.
"You could just poof him into the woods or something," David said.
"I don't know how to do that." Hanna looked up at Regina.
"I'll teach you."
Hanna smiled. "Does that mean we can start magic lessons again?"
"If your parents are okay with it." Regina looked to Snow and David.
"Of course you can, but maybe work on mastering those freezing spells first. We also don't want the boy lost in the forest." Snow raised her eyebrows at her husband.
Regina smirked. "I could just teach her how to rip out his heart."
"Yeah show me that!"
"No! She is not going to show you that," Snow turned to Regina. "Right?"
"I won't show her that," Regina assured her.
Hanna sighed.
Snow looked at the clock. "Hanna, it's still 8th period, why don't you head back and catch the rest of it and your last class for the day."
"Can't I just go home with Dad?"
"No. I just made a big stink about you not missing school, so you have to go," Snow said.
David pulled Hanna into his arms. "I'll see you later, princess."
"Bye, Dad." Hanna returned the hug, then let go and turned towards her mom. She watched as she held out her arms.
"Can I give you a quick hug?" she asked.
Hanna nodded and went into her mom's arms. "Thanks for sticking up for me."
"Of course, baby." Snow kissed the top of her head. "Okay, get to class. I'll see you at home."
Hanna looked at her phone and groaned when she saw she still had about a half hour left of history, then an entire 45 minutes of science to sit through. She got what she needed from her locker and went to class.
Hanna opened the door and walked inside. The room went silent.
"Do you have a late pass?" the teacher asked.
"No."
"Oh. You're Hanna, right?"
Hanna nodded.
"Hmmm. Yes well, why don't you just find yourself a seat then."
Hanna's face went red. The teacher must have heard what happened. Hanna could hear the other kids whispering as she walked towards the empty seat in the back. Hanna slumped down into her desk and rested her head on her hand. Maybe she would ask Regina to teach her how to make herself invisible.
Hanna made it through her last two classes. Her science teacher gave them the last few minutes of the day to themselves. Hanna pulled out her phone and saw that she had a text from Henry, asking if she could meet him at Granny's after school. Hanna looked towards the other side of the room where he was sitting. She wasn't sure she wanted to talk to him, but sent her mom and dad a text anyway to ask, and they said she could go.
Hanna sat in a booth at Granny's and waited for Henry. She just poofed herself here right after school. She thought about finding Henry and bringing him here with her, but she kind of wanted some time to herself before he got here. About 15 minutes after Hanna arrived, she heard the front door open. She looked up and saw Henry walk in…followed by Violet. Hanna rolled her eyes and stood up. She grabbed her backpack and was about to send herself home.
"Hanna, wait!" Henry ran towards her. "Violet needs to talk to you. She wants to explain what happened."
Hanna looked towards Violet.
"Please Hanna? You deserve to know what all that was about."
"Fine." Hanna sat back down and watched as Henry and Violet slid into the booth across from her. They looked at her, then to each other. "Are you going to tell me what happened or not?"
"That was Calvin," Violet said.
"Yeah I know his name."
"I danced with him at a few balls back in Camelot," Violet continued. "His dad was friends with my dad, so I tried to be kind. He was annoying, but seemed nice enough. The night I danced with Henry, he became angry. He yelled at me after the ball and that's when I saw his true colors. He was under the impression we were dating, but I never liked him like that. He saw me with Henry today, and that's how this all started. I'm so sorry I got you into trouble."
"Actually, I didn't end up getting in trouble."
"Not at all? Not even from Grandma and Grandpa?" Henry asked.
"Nope." Hanna told Henry and Violet everything that happened with the principal.
"I'm glad you didn't get into trouble because of me."
Hanna sighed. "None of this was your fault either, Violet. I'm sorry he treated you that way."
"It's not going to happen anymore," Violet said. "My dad is furious. He's over at their house right now having a conversation with Calvin's dad. Plus, Calvin is a coward, so I know he's scared of you after what you did."
"Good," Hanna grinned. "So…do you guys want some hot cocoa?"
"Hot what?"
Hanna turned to Henry. "You haven't given her hot cocoa yet? What's the matter with you?"
"We've been a little busy."
Hanna rolled her eyes. "I'll go order us some."
The kids continued to talk while they enjoyed their sweet treat.
"Oh shoot, my dad is here," Violet said. "I have to go."
"I can walk you out," Henry said.
"No, you stay here. I'll see you at school tomorrow." She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, then turned to Hanna. "Thanks for the cocoa…and for everything else."
Hanna smiled. "You're welcome."
Hanna and Henry watched Violet leave the diner. Then looked back towards each other, both feeling the tension between them returning.
"Hanna, I'm sorry."
"I know you are. I'm sorry too."
"I won't leave you out of anymore operations, I promise."
"You better not," Hanna grinned. She was going to bring up the whole helping Ashley situation, but decided to just let it go. "Henry?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you think Emma is okay?"
"I think so. She said the tremors are just from stress."
"That's what she told me too, but…"
"You think she lying?"
Hanna nodded.
"Hanna she would tell us if something else was going on."
"If you notice anything, will you tell me?"
"I'll let you know, but I really don't think she's hiding anything."
"Okay. So…feel like losing at a game of darts?"
"You're on," Henry stood up and went to retrieve the darts from the board.
Hanna got up and followed him.
Henry held out some darts to her. "I'm going to beat you this time."
"In your dreams." Hanna threw her first dart, sticking it directly into the bullseye. "You were saying?"
Henry furrowed his eyebrows and steadied his arm as he sent his first dart flying towards the board.
Hanna couldn't help but smile. It was a relief to be back on good terms with Henry again. Things may not be completely back to normal, but her mom was right…this did help.
After a few games, Henry had to go home. Regina texted saying dinner was almost ready. Hanna was about to go home too, but decided that she wanted to go see Emma. She was over the whole Ashley thing and really wanted to see her. Hanna lifted her hand to send herself there, but remembered what Emma said, and quickly put it back down. Hanna pulled out her phone and sent her a text instead. Hanna sent herself home to get started on her homework. She was sure her mom would have dinner ready soon too. Hanna could go to Emma's later.
"Hey babe. How was Granny's?" Snow asked.
"It was good."
"And you and Henry?"
"We're not mad at each other anymore."
Snow smiled. "Good."
Hanna carried her backpack over to the counter and sat down on one of the barstools. She set her bag down on the other stool and pulled out her math homework. "Where's Neal?"
"Your dad is picking him up from Ashley's. They should be here soon."
"Okay." Hanna started on her homework while her mom made dinner.
Dinner was just about ready when Hanna heard the front door open. She turned around and watched her dad walk in with Neal. He set the carseat down and took him out. "Smells good in here. What's for dinner?"
"Spaghetti," Hanna told him.
David walked over to Hanna. "Did she get the good garlic bread?" he whispered.
Hanna smiled and nodded her head. "Can I have have the baby?" Hanna reached out her hands for him.
"Of course," David gave Neal to her.
"How did the rest of your day go?"
"It was good." Hanna pushed her homework back so Neal couldn't reach it. She picked up the pacifier that was clipped to his onesie and put it into his mouth.
"And how did things go with Henry?"
"We talked things out. We're fine." Hanna told him.
Snow smiled and walked over to her husband. "See things are getting back to normal."
"Oh the Evil Queen running around Storybrooke is normal?" Hanna asked.
Snow raised her eyebrows at her daughter. "We're going to find a way to stop her, Hanna."
"She'll never be able to separate us." David looked to his wife. He brushed his hand down her cheek and kissed her.
Hanna quickly covered Neal's eyes. "Eww stop it. You're going to scar him for life."
Snow and David stopped for a second and laughed, then continued to kiss.
"Come on, Neal." Hanna hopped down from the stool and carried him into the living room. "Let us know when dinner is ready."
Hanna sat down on the couch with her brother and pulled out her phone. There was still no text from Emma.
"Did you get all of your homework done?" Snow asked after dinner.
"Mhmm."
"Hanna…"
"Okay…I'm almost done."
"Finish it, please."
"Alright." Hanna sat back down at the barstool where she left her math book. She checked her phone again, but still nothing. She completed the last couple problems while her parents cleaned up the kitchen.
"Okay, can you two keep this little guy distracted while I grade some papers?" Snow picked Neal up from his highchair and handed him to David.
"Mom, you gave your students a test on your first day back?" Hanna asked.
"It's not for an actual grade. I just want to see what they know."
"Still…"
David put his hand on Hanna's back and led her to the living room. "How about we go see if we can get this little man to crawl."
"Come on, Neal. Look what sissy has for you." Hanna waved his stuffed sheep about a foot in front of him.
"You can do it buddy. Come see, Daddy." David held out a pacifier.
Neal was on his hands and knees, just looking up at Hanna and David.
"He doesn't like that one, Dad." Hanna got up and ran across the room to Neal's bassinet. She found what she needed and ran back to the living room. "This one is his favorite."
David held out his hand for it.
Hanna held it away from him. "No way. I want him to crawl to me first."
David let out a laugh and shook his head. "Okay, let's see if this works."
"Look Neal…it's your favorite paci…" Hanna held it out close to Neal's face so he could see it, and as he reached out his hand, she slowly pulled it back. Neal put his hand back on the ground and began rocking back and forth. "He's gonna do it!"
"Snow, get in here!" David called out.
Snow quickly ran into the room. "Did I miss it?"
Hanna held the pacifier close to Neal again. He reached out his hand and she moved it back a little slower this time. He put his hand back down, then just collapsed back onto his belly and rolled over onto his back. "Ugh…"
"He was so close," David said.
"Nice try, buddy," Snow told him.
Neal still had his eye on the pacifier.
"Here, you can have it." Hanna put it into his mouth. "We'll keep working on it."
"It's time for his bath anyway." Snow reached down and picked up the baby.
"Need any help?" David asked.
"No, I'm good. You two take a break. I'm sure all that training was tiring."
David looked over at Hanna. "The new episode of Survivor starts soon."
"Popcorn?"
"I'm on it." David gave her a wink and went into the kitchen.
Hanna threw all of Neal's toys back into his basket, then picked up the remote and put the tv on the right channel. She plopped herself onto the couch and covered herself up with a blanket.
"Of course the green team loses again," David said, shaking his head at the tv.
"Huh?" Hanna was checking her phone again.
"Why are you looking at your phone every five seconds? You better not be texting a boy."
Hanna looked up at her dad. "I'm not texting a boy."
"What's so exciting about that phone, then?"
"Nothing." Hanna tossed her phone onto the coffee table. She leaned back against her dad and reached out for another handful of popcorn.
David put his arm around Hanna. "Think green is going to tribal council again tonight?"
"Nah, I bet they pull through."
"I don't know…"
After putting Neal to bed, Snow joined David and Hanna for the last part of the show. Then Hanna got a shower and got herself ready for bed too. She decided she was going to try sleeping in her bed again. The couch really was awful. She hoped she would have another night free from the Underworld. Hanna sat down on her bed, plugged her phone in and set it down on her nightstand. She still hadn't heard from Emma. Her mom and dad came into the room to tell her good night and just as Hanna was about to fall asleep, her phone started buzzing. Hanna picked it up and saw a message from Emma. "Sorry. Just got this. See you tomorrow?" Hanna just rolled her eyes and put her phone back down on the nightstand. She wasn't so sure if she would be in the mood to see her sister tomorrow.
