I hope you like my Sokeefe scenes so far! I worked really hard on this one. I wanted to make this scene where they weren't a couple, but they suspected that the other person liked them (pretend that Sophie isn't annoyingly oblivious for a second). I hope you enjoy it! Once again, feedback is much appreciated (like you have no idea how much!) so pls, pls, pls leave a comment!
p.s. Yes, I did get inspired for this chapter from the song. Yes THAT song, the "Sophie and Keefe, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" You'll have to wait until the end to see if that's really true!
"Hey, Foster."
Sophie looked up from the book she was reading.
"Keefe? What are you doing here?" She placed her book down on the grass besides the Panakes tree, which was blanketed from its fallen petals. The landscape was littered with the sparkly pink, purple and blue petals.
"Oh, you know me, a lone rider, out searching for new adventures!" Keefe waved his hand out in front of him to illustrate his point.
"Some lone rider you are," Sophie looked behind him to see Ro, Keefe's ogre bodyguard, trying to blend in with the scenery. She had been able to ditch her own goblin bodyguard, Sandor, convincing him it was perfectly safe in the Havenfields pastures.
Sophie almost snorted with laughter as Ro consistently tried to swat Wynn and Luna, the baby alicorns, away from her. It was a bad idea to try to hide near their feeding place.
Keefe studied her.
"You know you're cute when you laugh."
Sophie blushed red and looked down, hoping he didn't see it.
"So what are you really doing here?" Sophie asked after she recovered. "And I know it's not for adventure, we don't have to look to find them."
"Yeah, they do seem to follow us everywhere…" Now it was Keefe's turn to look down. "It's my Dad."
"What did Lord Cassius do now?" Sophie patted the spot beside her sympathetically, inviting Keefe to take a seat. He slowly walked to her and slumped against the Panakes tree.
"It's nothing, just another 'you aren't living up to your full potential' lecture." He said it so casually it worried her.
"Well obviously it bothered you enough to come and visit me." She smiled as he placed his hand on his heart in mock hurt.
"You got me Foster, right here."
They laughed, watching Ro try to train the baby alicorns into avoiding her. It involved a lot of wild, dramatic gestures that Luna and Wynn were happy to ignore.
"Foster…" Keefe asked softly, almost shyly. "You don't think i'm useless right?"
Sophie looked at him in shock, "Why would you say something like that?"
"You know why." He said, not quite looking her in the eyes.
Sophie sighed. Sometimes she really wanted to kick Lord Cassius in his special place. She reached for Keefe's hand.
"Keefe, look at me," She waited until he did to say the rest. "You never were or ever will be useless. Period. You know that right?"
Keefe nodded. "I just… needed you to say it."
"Oh Keefe," She tightened her hold on his hand. "What am I going to do with you?"
They sat there in silence for a few minutes, holding hands, until Keefe broke away saying, "Have you ever climbed a tree?"
"Um, yeeeeesssss, though why did you ask?" She watched him stand up, and test the lowest branch of the Panakes tree.
"Because we need something to take our minds off all this, and I don't want you to have another Elwin visit." He smiled as she scoffed at his teasing words.
"I'll have you know that I was really good at climbing in the Forbidden Cities. But do you think it's okay to climb the Panakes?"
"I don't know… Why don't we listen and find out." Keefe suggested.
They closed their eyes and listened to Calla's song, as gentle as a breeze. The tune was of acceptance and trying something new. Sophie had never once thought about climbing the Panakes tree, mostly because they were so rare and important. But as she gripped the branch lowest to the ground, it just felt right in so many ways. Like Calla was encouraging her to try it. Sophie heaved herself onto the branch, and Keefe did the same on another not far from her.
"I'll race you Foster." Keefe said with a devious smile.
"Keefe don't you dare!" She said standing on the branch.
"Last one to that branch is rotten Iggy breath!" He said pointing to a random branch above them.
"Keefe, no fair!" Sophie giggled and quickened her pace.
Keefe paused for a moment, looked down at her, and said, "Way fair." Before continuing climbing.
Keefe reached the branch he picked in record time leaving Sophie way behind.
"I thought you said you were good at climbing trees!" He teased, shaking his blond hair out of his eyes to look down at her.
"Norman trees aren't usually shaped like this!" It was true. The branches were more spaced out, and the bark was smoother and curved around the branches at an angle.
"Eh, details, detailed." Keefe said as Sophie finally reached his branch and sat down beside him.
They didn't seem to know what to do after that, so they just stared at the setting sun and watched the oranges, yellows, and pinks swirl together.
"Thank you for being there for me Foster." Keefe said after a while.
Sophie looked at him. "Of course, you're one of my best friends Keefe…"
"Right," He mumbled. "Friends."
He stared up at the stars that were just starting to show against the colorful sky. The stars were one of the things that Sophie loved the most about the Lost Cities. From Havenfield, Sophie could see almost all of the constellations. She looked down at the book she was reading before Keefe's arrival. It was about astronomy, which she didn't really need since she had all the stars memorized, but she still enjoyed it.
"What if I don't want to be best friends?" He said suddenly disturbing Sophie's thoughts.
"W-what?" Sophie asked.
He must have felt her surprise because he immediately said, "Like, what if I wanted to be more than friends, maybe, sorta…"
Sophie had always suspected that Keefe had feelings for her, but she never expected him to actually admit them to her. To be honest, she'd thought about keefe a lot these days, probably more than she should. But did she really like him back? He would make a pretty awesome boyfriend… But she had to be sure before she said anything.
"So like… you want to be my boyfriend?" She tested that word out, surprised by how easily she could say it.
Keefe took a deep breath, and tightened his hold on the Panakes branch, before he looked her straight in the eye and said, "Yes."
Sophie sucked in a breath. Was this really it? Was this really happening? She thought these questions to herself as she stared into Keefe's intense ice-blue eyes.
She took one slow, deep breath before saying, "Keefe do you trust me?"
"Of course Foster."
"Then close your eyes and don't look."
Sophie tried this one before with Dex, when he said she had feelings for her. Then she hadn't felt a spark; she hoped she felt one with Keefe. But first she had to work up the courage to do what she needed to do.
Sophie tried to get comfortable on the branch she was sitting in. She finally decided to swing her leg over, like Keefe, and sit facing him. Sophie took three slow, deliberate breaths, before she scooted closer to him.
Closer.
She scooted closer, until she could feel his gentle breath tickle her hair. She looked up at him and saw that his eyes were still closed. She was so close to him, she could smell the faint scent of cologne. It took a few seconds to work up the courage to do it, but once she had it, she wouldn't let it go.
Sophie's heart was racing faster than it had any right to be and her brain was spiraling with hundreds of thoughts. What am I doing?! Was the one that stood out the most. But she wouldn't chicken out now! With that thought in mind, she kissed Keefe Sencen.
He barely got a chance to open his eyes before she pulled away, too shy to continue. Sophie looked the other way, her head being the reddest it's ever been. She had felt a spark. And she loved it.
"Foster?" Keefe asked.
"Yes Keefe?" Sophie said.
"You call that a kiss?"
Keefe slipped one hand behind her back and another behind her head, and pulled her into himself. Her heart melted as his lips met hers. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and pressed in just a little more. Sophie felt a spark ripple down her body as she passionately kissed Keefe Sencen. Was this what it should've been like for Dex? She didn't know.
All she cared about at the moment was a certain blond-haired boy with a knack for mischief.
They pulled away at the sound of someone hooting.
"About time you told her!" Ro said, Luna and Wynn at her side like the 'obedient' alicorns they were.
They laughed as Sophie leaned into Keefe. Partially for balance, and partially to be close to him. She leaned her head on his shoulder and he laid his head on hers.
As Sophie stared at the setting sun, she remembered a song she used to torment her parents with.
"Sophie and Keefe sitting in a tree," Sophie sang softly
"What?" Keefe asked.
"K-i-s-s-i-n-g."
He laughed and kissed her again.
Sorry! I couldn't help putting that song in there, it was too perfect to refuse!
Thank you to Guest for leaving a review (I smiled like an idiot when I read it XD)! Hope you liked this scene! :) =) ;D
