Van Helsing arrived at Lucy's house, where everyone was waiting for him. Mina, Ada, and Lucy's mother seemed extremely worried. Helsing went upstairs, and entered Lucy's room, where Arthur and Seward were waiting for him.
Lucy was unconscious. Helsing began examining Lucy, including the inside of her mouth. Her canines were getting longer, her gums were growing paler, her lips were growing crimson red. He peeled open one of her eyes, and noticed that her pupils were now red. Her choker had slipped down, revealing the bite mark.
Then, he made a realization. He didn't want to tell Arthur and Seward yet, but he knew he had to do something to prevent the now infected blood from turning her fast. "Quick! I need a blood transfusion." Helsing said.
"I can do it." Arthur said. "Very well then." Helsing said before preparing his materials. Seward left the room, and he was met with Ada standing by the door. "What are you doing?" he asked. "Just listening in. Wanna make sure Lucy's alright." Ada answered.
Seward went downstairs. Arthur and Helsing finished preparations, and Arthur kissed Lucy's forehead before sitting down. Helsing began the blood transfusion, and he took so much blood that Arthur went pale.
Helsing proceeded to look at Arthur. "Go home, she'll be alright." Helsing said. Arthur grabbed his jacket and left the house.
Helsing leaves the room, and Ada grabs his arm. "Mina and I know what's going on." Ada said. "Oh really?" Helsing asked. "Lucy was bitten by a vampire." Ada said. "Oh… actually yeah." Helsing said. "So, I take it that she can turn without dying?" Ada asked. "No, she'll die if we don't find a solution, then she'll turn." Helsing said.
"The vampire that bit her is the same one that terrorized the commune that I grew up in." Ada said. "Really?" Helsing asked. "Yes, his name is Dracula." Ada answered. "Then you should know what to do." Helsing said before heading downstairs. "Seward, I need you to watch Lucy while I leave town to gather materials. I know a place that has what I need." Helsing said. "I'll make sure nothing happens to her. You have my word." Seward said. Helsing proceeded to leave the house.
The next day:
Seward was about to fall asleep in his chair when Lucy woke up. "Lucy! You're… you're alive." Seward said. He had stayed awake all night to watch her. "You look horrible. Was this from just one night?" Lucy asked. "Y-yes." Seward answered. "You poor thing. You can sleep in my bed for now. I'm feeling much better." Lucy said.
Later:
Lucy was sitting in the dining room, writing in her diary. "I love Arthur so very much, but I feel like a selfish burden to him. He doesn't deserve this." she wrote. She dropped her pencil and felt her forehead. She was feeling quite faint, and her skin was almost white. Mina came into the room.
"Lucy, are you alright?" Mina asked. "Yeah… I just… I just…" Lucy trailed off, and Helsing returned. "I'm finally back." Helsing said before noticing Lucy's condition. "Oh no." he said before Lucy fainted.
"Quick! Help me take her upstairs. She needs another blood transfusion." Helsing said before he and Mina carried Lucy upstairs. They entered Lucy's home, they set her down carefully. "Seward, wake up fool!" Helsing shouted before slapping Seward's face. "Ow!" Seward shouted as he woke up. He looked down at Lucy. "Oh dear." he said before getting out of bed and helping Lucy into bed.
"Seward, I need you to give Lucy your blood." Helsing said. "O-of course! Anything for her." Seward said before sitting down.
As the blood transfusion was performed, Seward could feel himself growing more faint from just how much blood was taken, but he didn't care, this was an act of love from him. Once the transfusion was performed, Helsing grabbed his jacket. "I must travel to the telegram office to contact people to help with Lucy's condition." Helsing said before rushing downstairs and leaving the house.
Later that night: Mina walked into the guest room where Ada was. In the room, Ada was loading a revolver. "What are you doing?" Mina asked. "I'm just being safe." Ada said. "I'm sure Helsing will be able to save her." Mina said. "No, you don't understand. I spent almost two decades of my life under that thing's reign of terror. He will hunt, and feed, and he won't stop until we're all dead. I have never seen a single person marked by him being saved. They all end up turning."
Ada said.
"You're not gonna hurt Lucy, are you?" Mina asked. "If that woman dies, she will be buried without her head." Ada responded before leaving to use the bathroom. Mina was a bit taken aback by that statement, and she noticed another book about Romanian mythology sitting on the bed.
She looked through the pages, and found one about how to prevent a vampire from turning after dying. The book said to cut off the victims head, stuff garlic in their mouth, stab a stake through their heart, and bury them face down, with religious items, such as crucifixes.
It was rather… unnerving that Ada was so sure that the worst would come of this situation. Mina had never seen this side of Ada before. Truth be told, Ada usually looked on the brighter side of things (spending months living with Lucy's mother aside,) and seeing Ada act like this was so strange.
Was Ada really this afraid of the monster from her childhood? What happened in Bran when she was a child that would make her think that way? Did she really mean what she said about Dracula's reign of terror of the commune?
Later that night:
Ada and Mina were asleep in bed. Ada was having a combination of weird dreams ever since Dracula arrived. Some were more familiar than others. The less familiar dreams were of angels, knights, medieval warfare, and an angelic looking woman standing using magical powers to fight off a man who appeared to be a count.
She also heard the familiar sounds of shouting in her head. Shouts that were shaming her, down to the point of calling her a disappointment, and asking why she would leave in a situation like this.
In one dream, she was walking downstairs in her childhood home. She was thirteen in this dream. But this wasn't just a dream, this was a memory. She entered the kitchen, and saw her brother facing towards the counter, rambling to himself like a crazed man. "Don't let the demons win. God loves you." he said to himself.
"Adam, are you okay?" Ada asked as she slowly reached for the crucifix on the kitchen wall. Then, Adam turned around, ever slight movement, creating an audible cracking noise as he twitched erratically. There was blood dripping from his mouth, his eyes were glazed over, and Ada noticed a dead rat with a bite mark in its body on the counter.
Then, Adam spoke in a disgusting, guttural voice. "God has left us." he said before rushing towards Ada and pinning her to the wall by the neck. "Let go of me!" Ada ordered before wacking him on the head with the crucifix so hard that a little bit of blood spritted on the wall, and Adam jerked his head back.
Then, he slowly lifted his head back up to look at her, before screaming in anger and throwing her into the wall. "You really think you can win?! Face it, succumb to the darkness sister!" Adam ordered before lunging at Ada, only for a bullet to whiz through his head, and Ada's father tackled him to the ground.
"Honey, hand me the stake!" he ordered, and Ada's mother handed him the stake. He proceeded to thrust the stake deep inside of Adam's heart, before Ada's mother handed him the axe, and he chopped Adam's head off.
"Ada, grab the garlic." he ordered. Ada got up and retrieved the garlic, but then, Ada woke up from the sound of something outside. It was no wonder she blocked the memory of how to kill a vampire out of her memory, she first learned it from a traumatizing experience.
She got up and looked out the window. Then, a hand with sharp claws hooked onto the top of the window sill, and she heard a low growl. Ada covered her mother to suppress a scream, before quickly closing and locking the window. Then, she hung the crucifix over the window.
Dracula proceeded to leap down and feel the area. Ada let out a sigh of relief, before grabbing the revolver off of the bedside table, and holding it the whole night to keep herself safe.
The next day: Seward was woken up by Van Helsing and Lucy after sleeping next to Lucy's bed the whole night. Lucy looked better than ever, and Helsing appeared to be enthusiastic. "Assistance will be arriving in four weeks to help with Lucy's condition.
"Excuse me, four weeks, are you serious?!" Seward asked as she quickly stood up. "They are experts on this matter from Transylvania. All we must do is keep Lucy stable until they arrive, and then they can help her." Van Helsing reassured.
"But until then…" Helsing said before grabbing a reef of garlic blossoms off of Lucy's hope chest. I want this to stay hung up on Lucy's bedroom window." Helsing said.
"What? But it's garlic." Lucy joked. "Please just cooperate. These are important." Helsing pleaded before hanging them up on the window. Then, Helsing started smearing garlic all over the room.
This made Seward suspicious. Was Helsing trying to keep out evil spirits? After what Seward had seen only a few nights ago, he wouldn't be too surprised, but it seemed that no one would believe him if he told them of what he had seen, but maybe Helsing would.
Later that day:
Renfield was standing in his cell. He had been crafting a simple plan to escape, now that he had calmed himself down enough to think straight. The only way to escape was if he got a little violent. He had to fight his way out.
Then, a guard walked by the door. "Hey, you there." Renfield said. "What do you want?" the guard asked. "I can take you to where my master is hiding, but you must free me." Renfield offered.
"How do I know you won't hurt me?" the guard asked. "I am an old man, I could never successfully hurt you. Please… just let me lead you." Renfield pleaded. "Okay, fine." the guard said before opening the door, but as soon as he did, Renfield manifested his superhuman strength, striking the guard in the face with a killing blow from his fist, sending the guard to the ground.
"Normally, I don't kill. I prefer to leave the mice for the cat to find them, but I had no choice here. My apologies for denying you the opportunity to lose your life to a noble." Renfield said before taking the gate key that the guard had.
As Renfield advanced through the asylum, the guards could hear the terrifying sounds of guards being brutalized by Renfield. One guard prepared to rush into the area, before he was stopped by another guard. "Don't risk it! He can't be stopped!" the guard said before Renfield popped up from around the corner, and snapped the guard's neck, before grabbing the other guard and throwing him into a wall, hard enough to kill him. Renfield proceeded to leave the building, and open the gate. He quickly rushed away from the complex, and made it to the abbey. "I am here, master! Is this what you wanted?!" Renfield asked, before dropping to his knees before the ruined building.
Then, he heard Dracula's voice from behind him. He turned around and saw his master, the moonlight casting a soft glow upon his disgusting, light grey, wrinkly skin.
"Yes. You have proven your combative capability. I am impressed. Now go clean the basement. It's dusty." Dracula ordered. "Yes master!" Renfield complied with enthusiasm before rushing into the abbey to serve his master as he did before.
