CHAPTER 4

BART POV

"Hi, Mary." I say as Mary sits down opposite me in the booth at Krusty Burger.

"Hey, Bart. Can't wait to try the food here. I've never been here before." Mary said.

"Never?" I ask flabbergasted.

How has someone been to Krusty Burger?

She breathed out, "Never."

"Well, then you have to try a frosty chocolate milkshake. It was the first thing I had here." I say remembering Dad taking me here. He was actually excited to take me. We sat at a booth and he told me all about how he want me to have a better furure than him and he is happy that mom got pregnant because it meant I was born and that he will love me no matter what. I doubt he still means now. He probably thinks I don't remember that.

"Bart? Hello?" Mary said.

"Oh, yeah?" I said casually.

"Bart, you just stared into space for like two minutes." Mary said.

"I got distracted."

We ordered milkshakes and burgers. Mary enjoyed the milkshake but thought the burger tasted weird which I thought was funny.

"Can we hang out again sometime soon?" Mary asked.

"Uh, sure." I said.

"Thank you, Bart Simpson." She said smiling.

I felt my throat close, did I just agree to go out with her?

Why am I so against going out with a girl?

Anyway.

I get home, I watch tv with Homer. We are watching a TV show. We started to really enjoy it so made a plan to watch it together when it came on the TV. I'm not sure what it's really about yet.

The next day, Lisa asked me to go to the beach with her, she wanted to clean it or something and Mom didn't want her going alone.

"Lise, look at this." I said calling her over.

"What is it, Bart?" She asked curiously.

"Look, it's a starfish." I said pointing at a dried pink starfish.

"Oh no! We have to help it."

"Quick, find something to scoop it up on." Lisa said.

I look for a shell or something. I find a frisbee, I pick it up.

Lisa carefully scoops up the starfish and runs over to the tide pools and lowers the frisbee in one. The starfish swims off.

(A/N: Idk if swim is the right verb for a starfish but whatever. Thanks for reading!)

"Hey, where'd the frisbee go?" I heard a voice say. A familar voice. A familar voice belonging to the one and only Milhouse.

"Bart? Lisa?" Milhouse says walking up to us.

"Hey, Milhouse." I said nervously.

Why am I nervous?

"Hi, Milhouse. Who's your friend?" Lisa asked.

"Hi, I'm Samantha." Samnatha said.

"Hello, I'm Bart's sister, Lisa." Lisa said.

Samatha and Milhouse are here together? Why is there a knot in my stomach?

Samantha whispers in Milhouses's ear and they giggle.

My head feels loud and foggy.

I'm staring at Milhouse.

I'm staring at Milhouse!?

Actually, I can't stop staring at him.

What is happening?

Bart, focus!

I can't be around him right now.

"Oh, well, here's your frisbee, we have to go clean up the beach," I pull Lisa's arm, "right, Lise?"

"Um, yeah." She says confused.

We walk away. "You ok?" She asked.

"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I asked.

"Bart, I want the truth." Lisa said.

"The truth? The truth is that I don't know. Ok? I don't know what's going on and I don't want to talk about it."

"I'm sorry." She says quietly.

"It's ok." I said.

Lisa cleaned the rest of the beach. I actually helped to stop thoughts from coming into my head.

That night, I got a call from Mary asking me to meet her tomorrow at the park. I agreed but I honestly didn't really want to go all that much.

~~~The next day at the park~~~
"Hey, Mary." I said.
"Hello, Bart." She said excitedly.
We ran around the park and ate sandwiches and drank squishees.
She asked me all kinds of questions.
When the time came to leave, I said, "Bye, Mary."
"I like you, Bart Simpson." She said and kissed my cheek.
I gasped. What just happened? I have a weird feeling in my stomach.
I walk away, confused.
