A/N: The last chapter before Natsu goes to Fairy Tail. Sorry, I didn't think it would take this long to get to where Natsu entered Fairy Tail. However, I wanted to give some context behind Natsu's future actions. That way it didn't show up in the very same chapter. It be...messy to do, at least in my opinion. However, thank you for your patience.
P.S I, don't own a thing. Hiro Mashima is here in person telling me to write it down like a responsible human being.
"What?" Natsu asked.
"I escape the facility and when I return to my home. I saw my mother with two, don't you remember?"
No, Natsu remember that conversation. He wanted to make sure he heard her right.
"Did you even talk to her? Did you go down to talk to your mother!?" Natus asked.
"What does it matter, I saw it for myself." Ultear said.
Which meant she didn't actually go to talk to her mother and happily returned to that place.
"The second you went back is the second that this became your fault!" Natsu yelled at her.
"It wasn't my fault! It was her fault! She-"
Natsu smashed his fist into her jaw. Ultear went flying due to not expecting Natsu to ever strike her. Natsu saw Ultear go flying into the wall.
"She never abandoned you! She thought you were dead! They played her like a fool!" Natsu declared.
Natsu could understand if Ur had actually abandoned Ultear. That would make sense. However, Ur had rampage until being given a very convincing show that her daughter was actually dead. Sure, Ur should have done her due diligence but to Natsu. What had mattered is that Ur went back. Ultear had a loving mother and he wanted her to know that because it was something Natsu would want to know. Yet, here Ultear was lashing out to stop herself from seeing the truth. Why? He didn't know but Natsu would get her to see that truth. Ultear saw Natsu grabbing her by the collar. This fight would get physical and would get physical instantly.
"You need to live with the fact that whatever you were doing has been a waste of time! Face it!" Natsu yelled at her.
Ultear slammed her fist into his face but Natsu hadn't given up. His hold remaining fresh on her collar.
"You self centered asswipe! You want to fall for the lies than go for it! I'll see Ur as a monster, like she always had been!"
Ultear hit Natsu again but Natsu head butt Ultear. The female realizing that Natsu could tank hits like nothing while staying unphased. A trait useful for elimination missions.
"How about living with a mother that smacked you around like a ping pong ball because of one mistake!? How about sleeping in the below freezing nights with nothing but a pair of shorts to toughen you up!? You wanna eat!? Nope, you get to eat if you learn how to get a perfect score! You think you had a evil mother!? Many nights I was left wondering if I was going to see the next morning! Why!? I knew that my mother wasn't coming to give me a blanket to keep me warm or give me food that was revoked because of my poor performance!" Natsu shouted at Ultear.
"Shut up!"
Finally, after using her orb she would force Natsu off of her. Natsu crashed through a wall. Luckily, no one was inside that hotel room. They would have seen Ultear coming through the hole in the wall with murderous intent.
"What is that suppose to mean!? You had a sob story too! Congrats!" Ultear mocked Natsu.
Natsu got up.
"You idiot, I'm saying that you're wrong!" Natsu yelled at her.
"No, you're wrong! She chose to abandoned me! She chose to get replacements!" Ultear yelled at him.
Natsu knew that Ultear wasn't backing down anytime soon. He could see the truth because he was a third party. However, Ultear was different and her feelings, were more personal. He needed to take a gamble. He needed her to see some sense of rationality. Unfortunately, having tact and delicacy wasn't Natsu's strong suits. Thanks mom.
"Meredy has more backbone than you, she actually went to find out the answers and confronted you. Yet, you couldn't even face the fact that you were wrong!"
"Like you know a thing about me and fuck you for bring Meredy into this!" Ultear shouted.
Poor communication kills. Natsu is willing but had poor communication skills seeing as Ultear seemed ready to kill him. Ultear was unwilling as she convinced herself to her version. Why? Her plan. Her life. The crimes she committed. They all would have been for naught if what Natsu said is true.
'Fuck I hate how honest he is!'
Natsu's words held weight but she had come too far. Ultear did the irrational thing. She chose to reject the truth. Ultear attacked while Natsu meet her in the middle. Ultear would win quite handily as she delivered a hard punch to Natsu's jaw. He might be able to tank hits but she was faster than him. She dodged a punch that would have actual hurt her if it landed. Luckily for her, Ultear is faster and capitalized on her speed. She kicked Natsu in the liver. Natsu coughed up blood as he lost his footing. Ultear sent Natsu crashing through the window of the hotel room. Natsu hit the cold hard ground as he saw stars instead of the ceiling. He just got his ass handed to him.
"You can pay for the damages since you caused this fight." Ultear spat at him.
Ultear left the premises without another word. Natsu stayed on the ground. Defeated. Now that he was alone. His anger slowly flooded out of him. He examined the entire conversation.
'Did I really come off like a asshat?' Natsu thought.
Natsu thought about the conversation. Yes, yes he did come off as insensitive. His direct nature failed to get through to Ultear because he didn't need to be direct in this conversation. Why was it that he only learned he made a mistake after having a fight? Is that how humans operated? Now its a no brainer as to why his mother hated humans so much. Natsu was hating himself in this moment. Maybe he should have showed the video first? Maybe be more compassionate? Which resulted in Natsu understanding that he had no fucking idea how to do that. Natsu quickly realized that he still had a lot to learn on how to communicate with people.
"I'm an idiot." Natsu told himself.
Yet, after the defeat. He could give up. He could just say screw it all after knowing just how far Ultear would rather live in her own made up verison. He could but he wouldn't, Ultear most likely hated him. She could keep hating him but Ultear...Ultear had a chance at closure. Even if it was something he wouldn't be thanked for, Natsu would do everything in his power. To make Ultear see the light.
'I can't do that by staying on the ground."
And so, Natsu got to his feet. He really should go to Hades first but he needed to pay the hotel owner first.
'At least I wasn't banned.' Natsu thought.
Natsu was learning that direct communication did help...in specific circumstances. However, he had left out the tidbit of telling Ultear first rather than Hades to the Guild Master as he made his report.
"Brain wanted to have a body magic seal but from my understanding, he already did that." Hsdes said.
"His seal is weakening and he needs a stronger candidate. However, for obvious reasons he can't take Ultear. Therefore, he is was trying to find someone as strong as her or at the very least, try to replicate her. It explained the old research and communication logs involving her." Natsu stated.
"Yes, she was 'quite the specimen' as they called her. I will have a discussion with Brain about his secretive dealings. Now for the-"
Natsu held up his hand. As he stopped Hades.
"I want to know about Ur, Ultear's Mother as my reward." Natsu said.
Hades laced his fingers together as he thought about Natsu's request. It was no secret that Natsu, Meredy, and Ultear were the most amicable with the other. Hades read Natsu's intentions like a book. Natsu wanted to help Ultear. The Man was debating if he should indulge Natsu's request. The Teen is becoming a valuable asset to the Guild. He even brought a body for proof that he had undoubtedly completed the job. If anything, Natsu wanting to help Ultear had reminded him of himself. Hades once wanted to help a old friend. Perhaps that reminder of him having the same position in his younger years had made Hades give in to Natsu's request.
"Ur Milkovich was a woman that could have become a wizard saint if she was still alive. The woman used Iced Shell to save her two pupils from a demon named Deliora." Hades told Natsu the more relevant information.
"Iced Shell?" Natsu asked.
"A Spell that breaks down the user's body into actual ice and that ice is used to seal away. As a result, the user ceases to exist because they're ice and as a result, considered dead. However, since it's not made out of typical ice. It takes a special kind of magic to make the ice melt. Simply, heating it won't make it melt due to the properties. The spell will last and keep the creature frozen for a indefinite amount of time." Hades said.
"There must be a way to reverse the effects of Iced Shell." Natsu spoke.
"It's impossible to reverse the effects." Hades said.
That never sat right with Natsu.
"Impossible is the word to be found only in the human dictionary." Natsu quoted his mother.
"You think you know better than people studying ice make magic for decades?" Hades asked.
Natsu stared Hades down.
"Impossible is not a fact but a opinion. It seems impossible because no one bothered to find a solution." Natsu said.
Oh, how the young were so foolish. Hades didn't believe whatever Natsu is sprouting because he was living in reality. He couldn't save his friend. He spoke from experience while Natsu came from naive place. However, if the child wanted to waste time. He wouldn't stop him.
"So long as you complete missions than you can do whatever foolish things you want too." Hades said.
That suited Natsu just fine.
