Chapter One: - I Steal Alyssa's seat

I stared at Mrs Johnson's face as she yelled at everyone to get on the bus. She always looked angry. Maybe she had a fight with her husband. Or she just hates kids.

Let me explain my situation a little bit.

Our school thought that dragging children around the place to clean up, (mind you more than half of us are diagnosed with ADHD, schizophrenia and some are just psychopaths.) and help the environment would be fun. It sounded like torture, but my friends were there so I had hope.

"Well? Aren't you going to get on the bus, girl?" I've been in this school for six years, but Mrs Johnson still can't seem to remember my name.

"Of course, ma'am." I entered the bus, snapping out of my spaced out state. The bus is full of hyperactive kids, but it's easy to spot my friends at the back. Sanha and Ritisha are sitting together and behind them is Alyssa. Ritisha and Alyssa hog the window seats like usual.

Naturally, I pushed Alyssa away to sit there.

Sanha started talking about a new song she heard and how much it reminded her of our favourite ship Percabeth, from Percy Jackson of course. As she started to sing, Alyssa clawed at my hands, avenging her seat.

A little bit about me and my friends while Alyssa tries to steal my snacks.

My name is Shreya Parmar. We all are in eighth grade, and I'm the oldest (also the shortest). I love drawing and reading… and that's pretty much it. My hair is black and reaches till my shoulders, and my spectacles cover most of my face.

Alyssa Parmar (for the last time she is not my sibling!) is the tallest among us, with thick, long black hair that would even make the women in coconut hair oil ads jealous. She has a round face, and turquoise cat-eye glasses which I don't really like (don't tell that to her). She can be sweet and mean at the same time.

Ritisha (Ritsika, Ritishka, Rickshaw, Ritika, she'll answer any of them. Maybe.) Is a little taller than me, with curly black hair that needs care. She acts depressed, and says 'I wanna die' often. I assure you she is just acting, she does not need professional help (maybe except for the warning signs of ADHD that everyone seems to ignore.)

Sanha is the second tallest among us, with shoulder length black hair like mine, and tan, clear skin (how has puberty not hit her yet?) She loves reading and singing, and a lot of people say we're similar. We both are also the only ones in our group whom dyslexia doesn't seem to have hit much.

The bus starts moving.

"Just imagine if we find Camp Half Blood there," Sanha fantasized. And yes, we were going to Long Island Sound, to some random beach nearby Montauk. The beaches were usually clean, but that doesn't stop water pollution.

"I really wish we would…" Ritisha said, "I wanna meet Percy… and Annabeth… and Nico… and Will… and Grover…"

"Percy and Annabeth aren't there, idiot," I reminded her, glancing at Alyssa who wasn't listening. She had only read till the first book of Heroes of Olympus, and had begged me to spoil her the ending to save her from boredom. "They went to college. And Grover is doing his… Cloven thing."

"Council of Cloven Elders." Sanha helped.

"Can I get my seat back now?" Alyssa grumbled. I pretended not to hear. Our conversation slowly shifted to water pollution and how disgusting society is.

Our conversations face a lot of mood swings like that.

The bus pulls to a stop. We get out and stand as far as possible from Mrs Johnson.

"Finally," I sighed. "The beach."
