So like I said earlier comedy has to move to be effective so don't want to dilly-dally in getting the heroes to Scarecrow
Now New Jersey is just a hop skip and jump away from New York City so the Turtles and Buttercup took the Battle Shell to drive to Gotham.
Buttercup couldn't help but be impressed with the Battle Shell "Donatello built all this out of junk he found in scrapyards?" The Mutant Sow exclaimed as she looked at all the gadgets built into it.
"Well…" Don said with a sheepish shrug "...We also used some alien technology, most given to us by our friends the Utroms other bits we scavenged from the Triceraton Invasion…"
"Wow…" Buttercup said "...You guys really have lived a life adventure…" She sighed "...I've lived the opposite, like the farthest I've ever gone is upstate to visit Grandma."
Mikey put his arm around her shoulders "Hey! It's OK! Hopefully we can begin teaching you Ninjitsu yourself so you can join us jumping across rooftops!"
Buttercup gulped the very thought triggering her Porcine Instincts against heights "Are you sure I will be able to do it? I mean I'm slow and quite frankly clumsy…"
However since the weather when the Turtles started their journey had been rainy it had been a particularly dreary autumn that year surely a sign it was going to be a harsh winter...The weather on the freeway began to get more harsh and Don who was at the wheel gasped as a bouncing tire came right toward the Battle Shell!
Don desperate to get out of the way caused the Battle Shell to slide on the slippery freeway and...It careened swiftly into a ditch...Fortunately no one was more seriously hurt than a few bumps and bruises...And Raph began a swift tirade about 'Turtle Luck' that made Buttercup's ears curl.
"We can't stay out here!" Leo said "We're sitting ducks right next to the freeway!"
Don looked to a nearby grove of trees there looked to him to be an abandoned house by it's deteriorated state surely no one was living there!
"There's an abandoned house over there!" Don said "We can seek shelter there until the storm is over!"
The Turtles concealed in their trench coats and fedoras and Buttercup wearing her own overcoat quickly ran through the meadow to the grove of trees.
If any of them had looked behind the house they would have seen a beat up looking pick up truck but even Don wouldn't have thought much of it...Don probably would have thought such a thing couldn't even run in the shape it was in!
The front door was not locked the five mutants all came in grateful to be out of the rain Leo and Don began hanging up their soaking wet coats and hats on a nearby coat rack.
But Mikey already started having a 'feeling' about this place "This place is totally creepy!" The youngest turtle said "Like one of those haunted houses!"
Raph who was in no mood to humor Mikey's fears at the moment turned sharply and said "Aw now don't you start with that!" Raph said "You gotta stop watching those horror movies if you can't handle them!"
But just then came what sounded like a ghostly moan "Ooooooh!" That caused Mikey to let out a high pitch shriek Buttercup would never have thought would come from a Superhero
"S-S-See!" He stammered "What did I tell you?! Ghosts!"
"There's no such thing as ghosts Mikey!" Don said "I think what this actually means is this house isn't as abandoned as we previously thought."
And then another moan saying quite clearly "It's agony! Agony!"
"And...I think this person is also in trouble." Don said
Buttercup followed because as she phrased it "If there is trouble it's safer sticking to you guys."
The five mutants went upstairs and saw an ajar door...Peeking through the Turtles recognized who was curled on his side on the bed with his knees up to his chest
"Zoinks!" Mikey exclaimed "It's the Scarecrow!"
Scarecrow wasn't wearing his mask or gloves but he was wearing the rest of his costume and he was able to hear Mikey's voice right outside his door his eyes snapped open "Who's there?! Show yourselves! I'm in such pain right now I might as well go out in a blaze of glory!"
"You sure about that?" Leo asked as he drew one Katana and poked it through the crack in the door. "We're armed."
Scarecrow was immediately taken aback seeing the sword but then said "Interesting you're carrying a sword in this day an age...But I'm one to talk...At least come in and let me see who my intruders are."
And despite seeing things like Killer Croc and Man-Bat Scarecrow still wasn't prepared to see four bipedal turtles and a pig in a dress walk into his room...In all his fear gas hallucinations he had never seen something like this!
He could only come to one conclusion "My illness must have progressed to the point I'm delirious! Hallucinating animals wearing clothes like a Beatrix Potter storybook!"
He flopped back onto the bed "That's it...I'm dying I know it...Stick that sword in me Turtle and put me out of my misery!"
"Wait! Wait!" Buttercup pushed her way to the front "Are you sick? Are you in pain? I...Because I was a Lab Animal I have connections to Pharmaceuticals I can call my Dad to get you medicine you need!"
So changing Scarecrow's problem to be a vague illness also in the following chapters we should get a bit more on Buttercup's backstory
