Here it is, the explanation chapter. I hope it makes as much sense to you as it does to me. Also, don't worry! I am setting up for something great! For all of you DBZ fans, I know, there hasn't been any good fighting. Though I am not very good at writing fights, I promise, there will be fighting to come…Again, patience is key! I left another author's note at the end of the chapter to explain how I came up with this particular chapter for those interested.

Now, enjoy!

Chapter 14: Family

Kira ran..she ran and ran until she tripped, barreling onto the grassy lawn of the Capsule Corporations compound and just laid there, staring into the sky.

Fear replaced slow burning anger.

It had all been a damn lie. She had cried for days over a man that didn't die! Left to think she was an absolute freak of nature! And now…Now she finds out she really wasn't herself!? Gripping the grass underneath, she tore and tore until green snow fell around her. Hands no longer full of grass she covered her face as tears fell from her eyes.

What she a damn joke to them!? Why keep this big secret!? Why did he leave here!?

"He left because he cares for you, Kira, as any grandparent would."

She sat up; Rukia towered over her, black eyes soulless to Kira's torment.

Kira glared at the woman. "Get the HELL away from me!"

Instead of leaving, Rukia knelt to Kira's level.

"You were born in the Seireitei, a natural spirit as we call beings like you." Rukia smiled. "Believe it or not, beings such as you are quite rare. You are considered nobility in the spiritual plane." At this time Hinamori joined Rukia, keeping silent.

"Your mother was the same, a natural spirit." Rukia continued. "Your father was mortal but quite powerful in his own right." She smirked. "He was, after all, the child of the great Seireitei Hero and who we call a Golden One." She crossed her legs to be more comfortable. "It was a peaceful time, one greatly needed." She sighed. "The event occurred when you were but a month old." She stared at Kira. "I am sure you have discovered that there are many universes. There are 12 in total. The squads of the Seireitei each oversee the mortal souls of a universe. 12 universes, 12 squads of shinigami. However there used to be 13."

"Your grandfather, was the only surviving mortal of universe 13."

Kira stared at her, unmoving.

"That day, Ichigo had been summoned to the Seireitei. Your mother and maternal grandfather went to get him. Your paternal grandfather, Kurosaki Ichigo, had come through the Universe 13 gateway first. His feet had just stepped onto Seireitei soil when the Universe 13 gate suddenly disappeared." She frowned. "We shinigami knew what had happened. Universe 13 had been destroyed."

"Ichigo did not know what happened, as he was still mortal back then. We told him and he demanded to see the Captain Commander who at that time was Kyoraku Shunsui. Instead of answers, the Captain Commander personally escorted Ichigo to Central 46, a group of high ranks that decide many things. There they told Ichigo that he had been spared from the wrath of the gods as a reward for all that he had done for the Seireitei. They knew the time when Universe 13 would be destroyed and summoned Ichigo mere seconds before the destruction occurred. Now that his mortal realm was gone, he would begin to accept his fate as a member of the Seireitei."

"Kira, I have known your grandfather for a long time." Rukia said. "Ichigo is a staunch believer in fighting for what is right…he is a protector in the highest degree, ready to lay down his life for the weakest of beings. Yet, cross a member of his family, and he will show no mercy." A scowl appeared on Rukia's face. "Ichigo asked them about his wife and your parents and maternal grandfather. Central 46 told him they were unnecessary. All that mattered was that he survived. The child, you, was safe here in the Seireitei living with your maternal grandmother. In sort, Central 46 only cared about you and him." She closed her eyes. "All I know, was the sound of screams all throughout the Seireitei. My brother told me to take you into the deepest depths of the Kuchiki home so that you may be protected from whatever was attacking the Seireitei. I was there for about two hours when the doors opened; there was your grandfather, Kurosaki Ichigo, practically covered in blood."

"He killed all of the Central 46 members and leveled their building." Hinamori finally spoke up. "But he didn't stop there…" She shook. "It took nearly all of us to calm him down enough to see reason. We lost millions that day. Even Squad 0 had to intervene in your grandfather's carnage."

"All of it, his anger and hatred, was gone the moment he saw you." Rukia told Kira. "He dropped to his knees and screamed until he could scream no more." She frowned. "Central 46 told no one of the impending doom of Universe 13, not even the Captain Commander. To this day, Ichigo blames us for his constant misery."

"Kurosaki-San gave an ultimatum." Hinamori-San continued. "Since he was still mortal, he needed to go to a mortal universe. He said he would be taking you with him and would raise you until you were grown. When you were old enough to be on your own, he would return and when he did, he would be given the Captain Commander title or he would kill us all."

"Of course Ichigo could not kill us all." Rukia huffed. "But, the former Captain Commander could not deny that Ichigo had a valid claim. We have entrenched in his life so much and now we take his family from him. We owed him enough to give him whatever he desired."

"There were some who disagreed but they were dealt with by Kurosaki-San instantly." Hinamori-San shook her head. "I've never seen him so angry."

"Ichigo's reasoning for the title was that we were idiots. He wanted to change things so that this situation did not happen again. It was he who suggested the cloaking shields be increased so that no mortal, no matter how strong their spiritual pressure was, could never see us." She chuckled.

"He chose Universe 7 because Squad 7 was more understanding with his situation." Hinamori stated.

"He had indeed left the mortal realm, Kira." Rukia looked at Kira. "He cannot stay in the mortal realm for long periods of time."

"When he knew his time was up, we had thought he would come to the Seireitei with you," Hinamori sighed, "He decided a different route."

"Kurosaki wanted you as far away from us as possible." Rukia said to Kira. "However, he knew that would not last."

"Wait." Kira finally spoke. She gave Rukia a long look. "You said…I lived with my grandmother…but you…took me…" Her eyes grew wide and she rose. "You…You're…"

"Indeed." Rukia rose as well. "I am your maternal grandmother." She smirked. "I am pretty much the only shinigami in all the Seireitei he truly trusts. Thus, when it was time for you to go to school," Here she gestured to herself. "Like he could keep me from my own grandchild, the idiot!"

Kira couldn't believe it. Rukia was her grandmother!? She didn't look a day over 15!

"Age is nothing to shinigami, Kira." Rukia seemed to know what Kira was thinking. "Unlike you, I am not a natural spirit. You will most likely live much longer than myself. I am well pushing the 1,000s by now."

All of this sounded way over the top for Kira. She was overwhelmed, shocked, and just-

"Kira-Chan!" Gohan came running up. "Are you alright?"

She plowed into Gohan, nearly toppling him over in the process. Out of everything, he had been the only one who she felt was truly there for her. He never lied, always told her everything, and was a rock when she needed gripped his waist and flat out cried into his chest.

Saying nothing, Gohan hugged her back. "It's going to be alright." He said.

Kira just continued to cry, hoping his words rang true.

Next Time: Training

AN: I DID warn you all that I wanted to change leadership in the Seireitei (grin). As you can probably tell, Ichigo is quite, well PISSED at the shinigami and Zeno-sama. I wanted to play with his selfless characteristics, you know, fighting for family and friends and such. And then the question popped into my head: What if the shinigami got him so mad..That he took over? What would make him so pissed that he would just plow right into the Seireitei and just deal with them himself? And what if this incident was so bad that the Shinigami…did not fight back?

The pieces began to fit when I realized Rukia's squad is the 13th squad. And the fact that the 13th universe had once been destroyed by Zeno-sama (shrug) it just fit perfectly…So horribly perfect that I had to use it. As far as time framing goes, I DID tweak it a bit so that the timing would work concerning when Universe 13 was destroyed.
