The Mayhem Critic
Aloha, my fellow readers. It is I, the great James Stryker and welcome back to another hilarious chapter of The Mayhem Critic. Today, it's time for a new segment called Interesting Factoids, where Sean takes a look at a film that people have seen and talks about some behind the scenes trivia and some easter eggs that people have missed. So, what's the movie that Sean is going to talk about? Well, it's the 1987 sci-fi/action film RoboCop. You've seen the movie, but have you seen THESE little details about it? Well, get ready to sit back, relax and enjoy some of these interesting factoids that you'd buy that for a dollar. This is the new chapter of The Mayhem Critic. Enjoy.
P.S.: I do not own anything involved in this story. All rights and references belong to their respective sources. RoboCop is owned by Orion Pictures.
Episode 197
Interesting Factoids: RoboCop
(The episode opens with a shortened opening of the Mayhem Critic intro. Then, we cut our favorite residential movie critic Sean J. Archer, a.k.a. the Mayhem Critic, sitting on his couch in his living room as he gets ready to start his introduction)
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Sean the Mayhem Critic, the critic that rips movies a new one. And welcome to a new segment that I like to call... Interesting Factoids." Sean said.
(We get the introduction to "Interesting Factoids". The logo is shown with Sean with his hand on his chin while wearing his Stranger Things Thinking Cap)
Olive Doyle: (V/O) Interesting factoid!
"This where I look back at films you've probably seen millions of times and I talk about some behind-the-scenes trivia and some easter eggs that you've probably missed or didn't even know about. With that said, let's take a look at the 1987 sci-fi classic RoboCop." Sean said.
(Clips from RoboCop are shown)
Sean: (Narrating) Yeah, it's one of the most awesome, yet ultra-violent sci-fi/action films of all time, but just how much right in front of you did you miss or things about the movie that you did not know about. So today, we're going to take a look at some of the Easter Eggs, some little touches that made us want to watch the movie over and over again, as well as some behind-the-scenes trivia that you didn't know.
"Well, let's not waste any time. Let's dive right into RoboCop." Sean said.
(The logo of Interesting Factoids: RoboCop is shown with the cover art of the Arrow Video Blu-Ray. This will serve as the background image as the numbers countdown. The RoboCop theme by Basil Poledouris plays throughout as the BGM)

Sean: (Narrating) Edward Neumeier, one of the screenwriters for the movie came up with the idea for RoboCop while he was working on the set of Blade Runner in 1982. He was aspiring to become a screenwriter and joined the movie's production to learn more about the filmmaking process. He was intrigued by Blade Runner's script, which is about a cop in the future tracking down Replicants in the future. He got the idea of writing a story and he turned the scenario around into a future where a robot cop would be hunting human criminals. Neumeier met up with co-writer Michael Miner after he observed a robotic themed music video that he directed. Over the next couple of months, Neumeier and Miner would both collaborate and write the script of RoboCop.
Clarence Boddicker (Played by Kurtwood Smith): Well, I guess we're gonna be friends after all... Richard.

Sean: (Narrating) Now, you know that the movie was originally given an "X" rating due to it's graphic violence. They had to cut several scenes to attain an R rating. And of course, I'm talking about scenes like Ed-209 malfunctioning and gunning down Kinney during the meeting, Murphy's death scene and of cource Clarence Boddicker's death scene. Some of that footage have been restored in the 1995 'unrated' edition of the movie on LaserDisc courtesy of The Criterion Collection. Years later, the unrated version has been released on DVD and Blu-Ray and you owned the Arrow Video Blu-Ray...
"Like me." Sean said as he held up his copy of RoboCop, the steelbook edition, courtesy of Arrow Video
Sean: (Narrating) ...you can have both versions. You can watch eiter the Director's Cut on one disc, or the Theatrical Cut on the other disc. The choice is yours and yours alone.
Bixby Snyder (Played by S.D. Nemeth): I'd buy that for a dollar!

Sean: (Narrating) Hey, did you ever notice how there are shots of RoboCop getting in or getting out of his police car? Well, that's because Peter Weller wore the top part of the costume and sat in his underwear because he didn't fit into the police car in full costume, so when he needed to be in the car, he wore the top part of the costume and his underweae just to maintain the illusion of RoboCop wearing the entire suit while he's in the car. Hell, I would laugh from the sight of Peter Weller wearing just the top part of his costume and his underwear. That would be hilarious.
RoboCop (Played by Peter Weller): Leave me alone.
#13
Sean: (Narrating) For the role of Anne Lewis, they wanted a no-nonsense actress for the role. So, Stephanie Zimbalist from TV's Remington Steele was originally cast as Murphy's partner, but she had to give up the role because NBC remewed Remington Steele for one more season. Which is funny, because that also happened to Pierce Brosnan when he auditioned for the role of James Bond. Jeez, Remington Steele ruined everybody's life. But hey, at least Nancy Allen was cast as the role of Lewis, and she did an awesome job at playing the character.
(Lewis beats up on a suspect)
Sgt. Reed (Played by Robert Do'qui): Lewis, come here when you're finished fucking around with your suspect!
#12
Sean: (Narrating) During the film's climax, Lewis is chasing Boddicker through the steel mill, a hubcap falls off the right rear wheel of Boddicker's car, but a few seconds later, you see that the hubcap is back on.
Clarence Boddicker: You stupid, stupid asshole!
#11
Sean: (Narrating) There's a shot in the movie that felt a little odd and it's right at the end of the movie where RoboCop shoots Dick Jones in the boardroom and right when he falls out the window, a puppet of Ronny Cox was used. Not to mention, that is a ridiculous looking shot and I have to admit, it looked weird.
(Leon screams in horror from seeing Emil)
#10
Sean: (Narrating) In the movie, Murphy's son Jimmy watches the show T.J. Lazer, where the character T.J. Lazer performs his signature twirling move whenever he holstered his weapon.
Jimmy Murphy (Played by Jason Levine): Wow! Can you do that, Dad?
Sean: (Narrating) In the movie, Murphy mimicks this to impress his son and also because he got a kick out of it. Also, when Murphy is brought back to life as RoboCop, you see him performing that same gun twirl. And because od this, Lewis began to realize his identity.
Lewis: Murphy, it's you.
#9
Sean: (Narrating) We all know that the iconic Auto-9 is RoboCop's signature handgun. But did you know that the Desert Eagle Magnum was originally intended to be RoboCop's gun? There were even behind-the-scenes photos and footage of Peter Weller practicing with the gun. But when they gave Weller the gun, they noticed that the gun was too small in the hands of RoboCop. Yeah, aren't you glad that they stuck with the Auto-9? That gun is fucking awesome.
Emil Antonowski (Played by Paul McCrane): I like it!
#8
Sean: (Narrating) And speaking of Robocop's iconic weapon, did you know that the weapon was built from a Beretta 93R with a custom fore end and compensator with an extended magazine. And speaking of weapons, you know that awesome Cobra Assault Cannon that Dick Jones gave Boddicker and his boys to detroy RoboCop? Well, it's actually a Barrett M82 long-range .50 BMG rifle and they give it an even more punch.
(Clarence blows up Joe's car with the Cobra Assault Cannon)
"Don't wanna be at the business end of that thing." Sean said.
#7
(A scene shows Clarence Boddicker entering Bob Morton's house and holds him at gunpoint)
Clarence Boddicker: Bitches, leave!
Sean: (Narrating and laughs) Still one of my favorite lines from the movie.
#6
Sean: (Narrating) On the scene where Clarence goes to meet Dick in his office, and before he goes in to see him, he starts flirting with his secretary. Well, did you know that the actress playing the secretary happens to be Kurtwood Smith's real-life wife Joan Pirkle? I guess you could say that Clarence Boddicker has his way with the ladies.
Clarence Boddicker: You can keep the gum.
#5
Sean: (Narrating) Believe it or not, there's a little Easter Egg at the end of the credits where the standard copyright notice includes a warning that the movies is protected under the laws of the United States and other countries and so forth. You'll see that distribution or exhibition may result in civil liability and criminal prosecution by enforcement droids. Yeah, do not pirate this film, or this will happen to you.
ED-209: I am now authorized to use physical force.
(ED-209 guns down Kinney)
#4
Sean: (Narrating) Why the hell would Dick Jones use live ammunition for a demonstration anyway? Wouldn't it make sense for him and the scientists, uh, I don't know, not use live rounds?
(The OCP technicians are shown)
OCP Technician #1: (Voiced by Sean) Uh, Mr. Jones. Should we not use live rounds for the demonstration?
(Dick Jones is shown)
Dick Jones: (Also voiced by Sean) Oh, it'll be fine. It's not like it's going to kill anyone here.
#3
Sean: (Narrating) Why the hell did Dick Jones keep a gun in the boardroom? In case of a demonstration going on or holding elderly men hostage? And why didn't he use it on RoboCop when he tried to arrest him? Oh, wait. I forgot. To whip out Directive 4 on him!
The Old Man (Played by Dan O'Herlihy): Dick, you're fired!
#2
Sean: (Narrating) Why couldn't the bad guys just shoot RoboCop in the face? They keep shooting at his armor and the bullets bounce off of him. They're wasting ammo on one guy! Just aim for the one part of his body that's not covered in metal.
Dick Jones (Played by Ronny Cox): He's a cyborg, you idiot!
#1
Sean: (Narrating) And the Number 1 Thing You Never Knew About RoboCop is... Paul Verhoeven makes a cameo in the movie. Remember the scene where RoboCop arrests Leon at the dance club and right when Leon kicks RoboCop right in the nards and screams, you see Mr. Verhoeven dancing wildly. This is the only time that you'll see him on-screen in one of his movies. Blink and you'll might miss it.
Bob Morton (Played by Miguel Ferrer): I fucking love that guy!
"Are there any more details that you noticed or any more trivia that you know about and that are worth speaking about? Then, feel free to bring them up in the comments and keep talking about a movie that's definitely worth talking about. I'm Sean the Mayhem Critic, and I'll see you guys next time." Sean said as he gets up from off of the couch and leaves the room. Then, he suddenly comes back, and this time he's wearing his Cap 'n Crunch t-shirt. "COMMERCIALS!"
And that is all for the new chapter of The Mayhem Critic. So, what did you think of the new segment "Interesting Factoid"? Would you like to see another segment of "Interesting Factoids" and another movie to talk about? Next time on The Mayhem Critic, it's time to take a look at more commercials when Sean and Lucas take on the nostalgic and weird world of commercials in Commercials XI: The Bad Batch. After the Commercials special, it's Mayhem Critic Christmas Month starting with A Christmas Story 2. Feel free to leave a review for the new chapter, add this story to your favorites and follow it for future updates. Also, if you like to request a movie of a TV show for me to review, let me know in the comments or PM me, if you're interested. I'll see you guys next time. Till next time, my fellow readers.
