Across the vast yellow sky, the scarred Saiyan flew back to his father. The messy-haired warrior wore a worrisome expression as he neared the cave he called home for decades. He tightened the grip around the crimson band as Raditz's words kept echoing within his head. He didn't like what the long-haired teen said about his father. The one-eyed man was far from perfect, and despite the occasional wrongdoings, he still raised him in this lonely world. However, the moment he tried to reason with himself and find good arguments for his father's doings, the bad ones outweighed the good. Distant memories of his father's first treachery surfaced, along with the memories of what Paragus did to his one and only friend, Ba, and the night when he got stuck with the gray necklace.
Unaware, Broly clenched his teeth as a low growl emitted from his throat. The tanned giant landed several steps away from the cavern and approached the home with a dangerous look in his eyes. However, his eyes softened upon hearing pained wails. The dark and terrible feeling vanished when he listened to his father's voice. He shook his head and tried to ignore the faint voice in his head. His black spheres drifted to the crimson band. Despite having a verbal fight with the long-haired Saiyan, he wished they could still be friends like Ba and him once were.
The Saiyan stepped inside the cave and immediately gazed at his father lying near the cold wall. He glanced to the side and noticed his father had yet to eat. The teen let out a sigh, upon which Paragus finally turned around.
"Broly, you're back. With good news, I hope."
As he stared at his father, a sudden scene proceeded. He took a simple step forward and punched Paragus so viciously through the gut, ending the man's life. Broly instantly shook his head and looked away with chilly sweat rolling down his face.
"Well!? Don't stand there like an idiot! Tell me, did you find and kill that worthless low-class!?"
Reluctantly, Broly gazed at his father and weakly nodded. "He is dead, but I didn't kill him, Father... I found this in a spider nest south of here." He approached Paragus and handed him the crimson band.
The older Saiyan held the band and brought it closer to his eye. "Hm, if I remember correctly, the little insect wore this on his arm and thigh.." Paragus inspected it thoroughly and noticed the blood all over it. "South, you say? That's the nesting ground of those gigantic spiders. Hah! That poor fool wasn't even aware of the dangers lurking in this wretched world!" He laughed loudly until the pain in the chest resurfaced.
Once the discomfort subsided, Paragus looked at his only son with a stern expression. "Broly, are you sure he is gone?" His tone changed as well, which Broly didn't like.
Broly nodded once again and spoke. "Yes, father. There was only blood and that in the nest. Someone that weak can't beat or escape the spiders." As he mentioned the long-haired Saiyan, he wondered what Raditz was doing.
Paragus stared at Broly for a few seconds until he burst out laughing again. "Good riddance! You got what you deserved, son of Bardock! I hope you died a painful and gruesome death!" The one-eyed male chuckled as he tossed the crimson band away.
"Good work, my son! See, if you continue to do as I say, there won't be any need for this."
Broly's eyes quivered while Paragus played around with a little device. "Y-Yes, father." He responded meekly as he sat down and reached for the meat on the floor. While he chewed on the stiff flesh, he was curious about his people. "Father. Can you tell me about Saiyans?" After all, Paragus never told him anything, and ever since Raditz showed up, he was increasingly curious to learn more.
"There's nothing I can tell you."
However, Broly wanted more than that answer. "What about Bardock? He wasn't your friend?" The tanned warrior devoured the meat while his father glared at him.
Paragus scoffed at his son's words. "Friend? Here's something for you to learn: Saiyans are incapable of having or making friends! There's no such thing as a trustworthy Saiyan." The old male smirked maliciously as he stared at the ceiling. "As for Bardock, that man was a helpless Third-Rate Saiyan who wasted his time trying to reach the Elite rank. Hah, those poor low-class idiots were chasing after their dreams." He laughed as he reminisced.
While Paragus deemed Bardock and everyone beneath him worthless, Broly had a different opinion. The father of Raditz seemed like a hard-working individual who didn't give up easily. Broly found himself admiring that kind of thing, which was new to him. The scarred Saiyan ate silently and wondered if he could hear more about the Saiyans the next time he visited Raditz.
However, before Broly could take another bite, Paragus suddenly shouted at him. "Stop eating that disgusting thing, Broly! You will go outside and hunt down one of those green beasts! I want to eat something good for a change!" Broly's eyes widened upon hearing that.
Memories of his time with Ba surfaced. Broly looked at the ground and opened his mouth. "N-No, father. I-I don't want to kill one of Ba's friends." The Saiyan silently spoke as he stared at the floor, expecting his father's fury at any second.
Naturally, Paragus didn't like it. "You sorry excuse for a Saiyan! You're still attached to that beast! It's because of that piece! Get rid of it at once!" Despite the injuries, Paragus stood up and tried to reach for the green fur pelt tied around his son's waist.
Upon witnessing what his father tried to do, Broly quickly jumped away and leaned against the wall. "F-Father don't! T-This is all I ha..." Before the trembling Saiyan could finish, a blueish light suddenly emitted from the gray necklace.
A robust electrical shock went through Broly's entire body only a second later. The Saiyan screamed with pain and dropped to his right knee as he held onto the collar. His eyes shut as he sprawled across the ground and tried his best to resist the pain.
Meanwhile, Paragus shouted at his son. "See what you make me do!? Do you think I enjoy torturing my only child!? Your actions cause consequences! Forget about that beast and do as ordered! You are a Saiyan; there's no room for useless feelings! That's what makes you so weak!" While his son was down and unable to defend himself, Paragus kicked him in the rib cage.
A cruel grin surfaced on Paragus's face as he watched his son struggle. However, that grin vanished as Broly's pained screams turned into a beastly roar. Paragus's pupil quivered as he watched Broly slowly get on his knees. Cold sweat trailed down his wrinkled face as his son's eyes flashed with yellow light. Paragus took a step back out of fear and accidentally dropped the device. The electricity died when the device hit the ground, and Broly snapped out.
Steam soared from the teen Saiyan, who had trouble breathing. He gazed at his father and noticed the fear in the man's eye. The scarred male recovered quickly and arose. He said nothing to his father and walked out of the cave.
Paragus slid down and sat on the ground. "Maybe King Vegeta was right... He might be a mutant, an abnormality. Having him around might be dangerous for me." The man shook out of terror as those fierce eyes haunted him. "He will kill me! I should do something and prevent that from happening! I could kill him in his sleep! Yes, I could! I surely could!" Paragus placed a hand over his mouth and laughed while nervously sweating.
However, Paragus was unaware his son could hear those words. Broly stood near the entrance with a somber expression. The poor Saiyan closed both hands tightly as a watery trail slowly slid down his cheeks and dripped on the warm ground. Broly bit the flesh inside his mouth and flew high in the sky, leaving the place once again.
.
Under the scorching sun, the long-haired Saiyan continued to push his body to the limit. With no one around to mock him or diminish his morale, the warrior propelled himself like never before for the first time. His entire body ached and was on the verge of collapse, but the teen kept going. The warrior's arms quivered like jello while sweat instantly evaporated upon touching the hot ground. He pushed his body up along with a heavy boulder on his naked back. Once he finished the count, the tall male catapulted the boulder high into the sky. He vanished and appeared right next to it. A single punch was enough to shatter the massive rock into millions of little pieces. As the pieces began to fall, the teen moved fast and hit all of them.
Upon touching the ground with his feet, Raditz stumbled backward but managed to halt himself from falling. The Saiyan groaned as his exhausted body demanded rest, but that wouldn't happen yet. Instead, the long-haired warrior dashed forward and slammed both fists into large boulders. A throbbing vein surfaced on his forehead as he began to lift the heavy rocks.
As he continued to push himself, voices reverberated in his head. The familiar voices kept telling him it was a waste of time and it would bore no fruit; after all, he was a low-class Saiyan. However, for the first time, he finally managed to silence those looming doubts. Instead of giving up like he usually would, Raditz shouted with all his might as he continued to lift the heavy boulders.
After an hour, the exhausted Saiyan dropped the rocks and let his body fall to the ground. He felt incredible despite being unable to move and having his body burning. The adrenaline and the rush felt outwardly to the warrior. A proud smirk was visible on the teen's bruised face as he stared at the clouds sailing across the yellow sky.
The proud smirk slowly vanished as he started to think about the scarred Saiyan. "Hmph, I wonder what he's doing. He's not been anywhere near the cave for days. Tch! Why do I even care? That daddy's boy is probably polishing Paragus's boots!" Raditz's mood shifted as he remembered how Broly acted once he brought up the topic of killing Paragus.
As he slowly got up, Raditz continued to talk with himself. "Broly's too soft to do anything... That goofball will remain stuck with that bum forever unless something happens." The Saiyan retreated to his cave to rest and hide from the sun.
The Saiyan sat down and leaned against the cool wall, shutting his eyes and emptying his mind. However, he could not stop thinking about the messy-haired teen. An annoyed growl came out of Raditz as he opened his eyes. He couldn't understand how Broly got under his skin. Was it simply because the taller warrior saved his life when he landed on this planet? Or because the scarred Saiyan offered him food? Annoyed by it, Raditz bit his nails.
"Tch! I'm supposed to be a ruthless Saiyan warrior! And yet, here I am, thinking of another Saiyan and his well-being!"
Raditz slammed his fist against the ground. His anger and confusion disappeared once his stomach growled. The Saiyan got consumed by hunger and reached into the pile of spider meat and eggs. The warrior devoured the last eggs within ten minutes and reluctantly ate the spider meat. While chewing the meat, the teen wondered how he would fare against the gigantic spider.
"Pff! In my current state, I would be beaten and eaten by those ugly beasts!"
The Saiyan spat a piece of hard shell on the ground and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "For now, that is! I will get stronger and crush whoever stands before me!" Perseverance shimmered in his dark eyes as the memories of scorn arose.
The flames of battle still burned hot within the long-haired Saiyan. Despite being stuck on a planet without transportation, he still had goals to achieve. If he didn't have any, he would surely go insane and become an erratic moron, just like Paragus, and that was the last thing he wanted. Naturally, killing Paragus was one of his objectives, but also to grow stronger. Because if he somehow managed to find a way out of this hellhole, he would undoubtedly show everyone they were wrong about him.
After a little break, the Saiyan decided to head out as he ran out of food. He left the cave and flew to the spot where Broly took him. Only half an hour later, Raditz reached the place. He floated in the air and inspected the ravine and the nearby area. He tightly wrapped his tail around the waist while sweat trailed down his cheek. Now that he was here without the scarred Saiyan, he felt uneasy.
"Tch! Enough! I can do this! It's a simple task! Fly down there, snatch the eggs, and get out of the ravine!"
The Saiyan flew into the ravine with an encouraging shout. He flew with top speed and avoided the nearby rocks and boulders. The warrior lowered his hands and grabbed several eggs. A prideful smirk surfaced on his bruised face. However, it didn't last long. Just before he could escape, a long tongue wrapped around his ankle; he saw a gigantic spider emerge from the shadow as he looked down.
"Crap! Let go of me, freak!"
Raditz tried to break free, but the strength of the giant creature was something else. The spider slowly closed the distance while dread began to consume the Saiyan. Desperate, he dropped the eggs and fired ki blasts at the approaching beast. Unfortunately, all of his attacks bounced off the creature's tough shell. Upon noticing his attempts failed, Raditz did the only thing he could think of at the moment. He took hold of the tongue and ripped it apart with his teeth.
He got freed, but the screech was so loud and powerful that it rendered him unable to move. The wounded spider headbutted him and sent him colliding against the wall. While the rocks fell on top of Raditz, the giant creature got to him and sank its sharp teeth into his shoulder and left arm.
"Aahhh!"
Raditz screamed out of agony as the teeth tore into his flesh. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he tried to remain conscious. He clenched his teeth and closed the fist tightly. The warrior punched the beast in the skull, but there was no effect. Instead of punching, Raditz put the open palm on the head and fired his most potent ki blast.
"Die, you bastard!"
However, no matter how much energy he poured out, there wasn't even a dent in the spider's head. "Tsk! You tough son of a..." His body was suddenly flung to the side and crashed against the wall. Blood poured out of his wounds and the back of his head as he slid down.
And yet, he stood up. Unlike in the past, where he would cover behind Nappa or Vegeta, he raised both fists and glared at the wild creature. His body trembled out of pain, stress, and fear, but he would not die here.
As the monster charged at him, Raditz spread his arms and fired at the rocky walls. The ki blasts caused heavy tremors and the boulders to come falling. The rocks slammed and crushed the giant spider that got buried. Raditz took flight and soared above the buried creature, ready to fire a massive blast, but the beast prevented him from doing so. The spider's long and sharp leg reached and pierced Raditz's right thigh.
"Uaahh!"
The Saiyan cried as the massive spider leg penetrated his thigh and remained in there. His body got thrown around, which made the whole thing worse. He was in and out of consciousness until he fell to the ground. He tried to get up, but it was too late. The creature was on top of him and slammed its heavy limbs across his body. Raditz cried as the beast stomped him until a loud sonic boom caught their attention. Out of nowhere, the massive spider flew and crashed into the wall. The creature fell out of the wall dead, which shocked the barely aware Raditz.
Before registering what was happening, he got lifted and placed over a shoulder. It didn't take long for the long-haired Saiyan to realize who just saved his life. "B-Broly! What are you doing here!?" Raditz stammered as the pain was too much to bare.
"No talk. You are wasting energy. I will take you to your home."
Raditz didn't even have time to protest as they were already high in the sky and heading back to the cavern. The grumpy teen tried to shout at Broly but found himself unable to do so. His body shut down, and the pain prevented him from yelling. All he could do was groan and moan while the scarred Saiyan carried him back to the cave, where he would apply the medical treatment.
Once back in the cavern, the long-haired Saiyan howled as Broly applied the medical spray and the cream as instructed by Raditz. The low-class warrior thrashed around until the taller teen took hold of him. Working fast, Broly wrapped the bandages around his entire body, even the head, thus making Raditz look like a mummy. However, Raditz didn't care as long as it would help him heal. His weary eyes remained locked onto Broly, who stood too close for his liking and continued to stare at him like a puppy.
"Would you back off already? I'm going to be fine!"
Upon hearing the loud and grumpy voice, Broly moved further and grabbed the egg, which he took on the way back. "Eat. It will help you heal faster." The messy-haired Saiyan cracked the massive egg and took out the slime.
Raditz let out a heavy sigh as he glared at Broly and his hand. "I am not going to be fed by you! I can do it on my own!" The moment he tried to raise an arm, the warrior screamed and fell to the side.
Broly reacted swiftly and caught the Saiyan before he could hurt himself even more. "Eat. It's easier this way." The tanned teen scoped more slime and placed it in a small bowl-like shell.
Ultimately, Raditz rolled his eyes and ate with Broly's help. "Just to be known, I never asked you to save my life. What were you even doing there? How did you know I was fighting that despicable creature?" With his other hand, the teen adjusted the bandages better so he could eat properly.
"I felt your energy going down fast. I tracked your energy and saved your life."
Upon hearing such a thing, Raditz's mouth almost dropped. "You sensed my energy? Without a scouter!? How's that possible!?" The teen's eyes were wide open as he stared at Broly, who took the bowl and poured more food into it.
"Scouter? What is that? I have been able to feel others for a while. That is why I was able to find and play with Ba... Until Ba decided to stop playing because of what father did."
While Broly's eyes filled with sadness, Raditz couldn't believe what he just heard. "To be able to sense an enemy or an opponent without a scouter is a great advantage! And this guy's able to do it... Maybe I could, too?" The long-haired imagined how useful it would be to learn such a technique.
While Raditz was daydreaming, Broly fidgeted as he wanted to pose a question. Reluctantly, he did. "Saiyans. C-Can you tell me stuff about Saiyans?" When he uttered those words, he thought Raditz would snarl at him like his father. However, this time it was different.
The long-haired Saiyan was brought back to reality by the posed question. He wondered why Broly was acting weird but decided not to overthink it and answer. "Didn't Paragus tell you anything?" He stared at the taller warrior, who weakly moved his head left and right.
"Strange... Whatever! We Saiyans are a universally renowned warrior race! Day by day, we strive and live for combat! That fierce passion for battle and talent molded us into the universe's most powerful race! Everyone feared us, especially our ability to show our true might during the full moon!"
Raditz pointed at his tail, on which Broly nodded and spoke. "Oozaru. Father told me it's dangerous and uncontrollable." The messy-haired teen placed a hand over the lower back and missed having the tail.
"Hmph, only good thing he told you. However, there is a way to control the form. The Elites thought only they could wield the power of the Oozaru, but some middle-class Saiyans were capable just as well."
Broly was surprised to hear that. "Can you control it?" He was curious to know. There was also a bit of excitement in his voice as he wanted to see the Oozaru form.
The older of the two coughed a bit before replying. "N-Not really, but I know for certain I could if I trained." Thanks to the bandages wrapped around his face, Raditz was glad Broly couldn't see his embarrassment.
To avoid any uncomfortable questions regarding his abilities, Raditz continued to talk. "L-Later on, Freeza's father noticed our skills and incorporated us into his empire. Despite hating those lizards, we did our job well. We would locate a hospitable world on their orders, eliminate all life force, and prepare it for sale. " The images of Freeza and his father flashed before him, which brought up anger, hatred, and fear.
"As long as we had the opportunity to fight and feel the thrill of battle, we held no remorse for who lived or died. As many people say, the strong survive, and the weak perish. That's how it is out there, Broly."
While Raditz took a break, Broly stared at his own hands. He didn't know how to feel about all this information. No matter how much he tried to wrap his head around it, killing people just because someone said so was wrong. He didn't want to kill innocent people just because they were in his or someone else way. However, it was at this moment Broly realized something. His dark orbs quivered as he nearly killed Raditz on his father's orders. If he went along with it, he would be the same as others, and how would that make him feel?
The scarred Saiyan held his head and shook it, not wanting to think about it anymore. "Who is Freeza?" He noticed the hate and fear in Raditz's tone when he mentioned the character.
A scoff came out of Raditz as he carefully adjusted himself. "That despicable midget's the most vile, tyrannical, and powerful creature in the whole universe! Shortly after his father, King Cold, put us into the empire, Freeza took over and immediately showed his thirst for brutality. That bastard killed anyone, be it out of punishment, boredom, or trying to prove a point! Life under him was a living hell!" His tail lashed beside him the more he talked about Freeza.
The wounded warrior had to stop himself as the pain surged. He clenched his teeth and coped with the tremendous pain while Freeza's maniacal laughter echoed within his head. "After our planet got destroyed along with our entire race, he took us and promised glory and riches. All lies! He constantly toyed with our lives like we were mere puppets! I did everything he wanted, and it still wasn't enough! I did everything possible, and they still scorned and ridiculed my s..." Out of nowhere, Raditz ceased the rant as he only now noticed he was venting out in front of Broly.
Ashamed, Raditz looked away and closed both fists tightly. "Is that enough for you? Or you want to know something else!?" It was clear his mood changed drastically, but it didn't seem to bother Broly.
Broly scratched his head as he thought about it, not catching Raditz's sarcasm. "Bardock. Can you tell me about your father?" He beamed out the question as if he was a little child.
Raditz's anger completely vanished as he was surprised by the sudden question about his father. "My father? That bum was only interested in putting himself way over his head. Somehow, he always returned from high-class missions, barely alive, with a proud smirk on his bloody face. And never had time to show me some of his moves or techniques." One of the reasons he held a grudge against his father was because the man was never there, and his mother had to show him some of her abilities instead, which weren't of good use.
"Although, it seems he did something right as your lousy father and other Elites noticed him and his rapidly increasing strength within the ranks."
A faint smile crept on Raditz's bandaged face as he thought of his late father. However, as his eyes fell upon the scarred warrior, he noticed the teen held tightly onto the necklace with a distressed look. "Hm, that thing around your neck seems more like a shock collar than a valuable necklace. Why are you wearing it?" The second he said that Broly began to tremble.
As there was no response from the taller male, Raditz pressed on. "Oi! I asked you something! What's the deal with that!? Why would you wear that stupid thing!?" Annoyed that the fellow Saiyan wouldn't answer, Raditz lifted his other hand, which was a mistake.
Once Broly noticed a hand approaching, he lost it. He wasn't even aware he moved and grabbed Raditz's hand. The tanned Saiyan squeezed the hand with all his might while his expression and eyes sent shivers down Raditz's spine. Raditz cried out as the bones in his hand began to crack. It wasn't until the long-haired Saiyan screamed that Broly suddenly let go.
"Ahh! You moron! Why would you do that!? I-I only wanted to know why you're wearing that thing!"
While Raditz groaned, Broly felt so bad about what he had done that he immediately grabbed the spider's shell and broke it to be flat and firm. He picked up the unused bandages and wrapped them together with Raditz's hand. Once he did that, Broly backed away and sat on the nearby stone. The guilt of what he did to Raditz was too great, and he felt he needed to say something.
"I'm sorry. Father put this on me while I was asleep. Whenever I disobeyed his order, he would punish me with this. Father says he doesn't want to use it, but father..."
Broly paused for a moment. He tried to find any good thing Paragus said or did so he could back up his father, but the teen could not do so. Instead, only the bad things piled up. The stuff he heard his father say a few days ago echoed in his mind. Broly gritted his teeth as he squeezed his hands tightly together.
Seeing how troubled the other Saiyan was, Raditz let out a sigh. "You can despise me or whatever, but the point still stands. Paragus must be dealt with, and you know it." He leaned against the wall and rested since he had no energy to debate. While Raditz fell asleep, Broly silently sat across him and thought of his father's hurtful words.
