A long-haired boy emerged from the fog-drenched in sweat. The child leaned against the stone wall to catch a breath. Sweat and blood combined and slid down his bruised face while he attempted to recover. His attire was utterly destroyed during the battle, revealing wounds and a piece of armor stuck into his flesh underneath the rib cage. The boy shut his eyes, clenched his teeth, and pulled out the piece of the broken armor. He let out a pained cry and slid to the ground. A single strand of hair hovered over his bruised forehead while he stared at the alien corpse before his weary eyes. His body was shutting down, but he couldn't afford to fall asleep here. Despite the pain and tiredness, the black-haired child got on his feet and pressed onward.
While holding tightly onto the open wound and preventing the blood from gushing out, the boy walked toward the camp. He pushed his exhausted body as he moved across the wasteland. While he marched forward, he imagined how pleased his companions would be that he had utterly annihilated the east sector alone. A prideful smirk appeared on his dirty face as he entered a blue forest. Upon setting foot into the woods, a wave of relief washed over him. He was on the right track and near the base. The boy bit his lower lip and sped up upon hearing a familiar voice. He was finally at the camp after climbing over a boulder and striding through thick bushes.
When he emerged from the woods, he saw four people standing at the campsite. A muscular giant with a mohawk and a mustache stood near the fire while a short boy with flame-like hair sat on a corpse and chewed on a fruit. On the other side, the two males took notice of the child and approached him.
"Well, would you look at that, Scallopini? The runt returned, and I was sure he'd die alone."
The men laughed while the boy walked between them. He ignored their voices and wanted to sit beside the fireplace and rest. However, a firm touch upon his shoulder prevented him from moving. Looking back, he saw Scallopini containing him from going forward. He wanted to shout at the older male but couldn't as he had to cough.
"Tsk! The brat sustained serious injuries. Nappa, Vegeta! We'll have to reroute to the nearest Freeza Planet because the weakling Raditz got beaten up again!"
While the flame-haired boy shot an unpleasant glare in his direction, the man named Nappa let out a sigh. Raditz clenched his teeth and cursed mentally, avoiding eye contact with the other child. He could feel the piercing scowl, which hurt more than anything. He tried hard to get closer to the others, but nothing worked.
"Bah! What else would you expect from a low-class trash? Let's not forget he's the offspring of that bastard Bardock, so it's no wonder he's so pathetic."
The boy closed his hands tightly and fought the urge to jump on them. However, the skinny Saiyan knew that even if he wasn't wounded, he stood no chance against any of them. He couldn't do anything but endure their mocking and go and rest. Just as he took a step forward, he felt a slight push, which caused him to lose balance and fall to the ground. Upon making harsh contact with the sturdy floor, the young warrior surged with tremendous pain, which forced Raditz to cry out.
"So goddamn sensitive. We'd be better off leaving Raditz here and going to the next planet without the insect, don't you agree, Nappa?"
Raditz tried to suppress the pain by violently biting his lower lip, which began to bleed. His weary eyes drifted onto the muscular giant that stood right before him. Their gazes met and locked for a few seconds until the burly warrior looked away.
"Stop bullying the brat, Okra, and Scallopini. He's a nuisance, but we can't just leave him here to die, no matter how tempting it is. That bastard Freeza would see it as Vegeta's incompetence and question his leadership. Do you want to serve directly under Zarbon or that fat blob Dodoria?."
Okra and Scallopini nodded and walked away from Raditz. The boy wanted to thank the giant warrior but had no strength. He tried to reach out to Nappa, but the sturdy male ignored his plea. Instead, he received some rough words.
"This is the last time we're making a detour because of you, furball. Next time, you'll be left behind or killed by Vegeta. Remember, we don't have any use of weaklings who always drag us down."
The long-haired Saiyan could only watch in disbelief as Nappa turned around and walked toward the other boy. Raditz's quivering orbs shifted onto Vegeta, who glared at him while devouring the food. He could see the fierce strength and conviction in those dark eyes. It hit him then and there, no matter how well he did or tried, Vegeta and they would never acknowledge him. Before the tears could roll down his bruised cheeks, the long-haired child lowered his head to the ground and let the darkness consume his consciousness.
.
Raditz immediately opened his eyes while soaked in sweat. He placed a hand over his bandaged head and sighed once he realized it was a dream. The Saiyan swallowed hard as the dream still lingered in his mind, especially the faces of the Saiyans. Vile hatred brewed within him at the slight thought of those who made his life a living hell. He ground with his teeth out of anger until he heard noises. The long-haired warrior glanced to the right and saw Broly doing some combat training.
He observed the wild-haired teen, who moved swiftly and ferociously across the air. Each strike carried so much weight and power that it created loud, deadly shockwaves. The shockwaves pulverized the rocks and caused the cave to quiver. Raditz's admiration quickly turned into fear as he noticed the ceiling crumbling.
"Stop it, Broly! Otherwise, the cave's going to collapse!"
Once Broly heard Raditz's voice, he halted and looked in the warrior's direction. The wild Saiyan nodded and descended to the ground. He wiped the sweat off his temple and walked toward the bandaged teen. On the way there, he picked up a piece of meat and took a bite. Before he sat down, he checked on Raditz, who was wrapped like a mummy because Broly had used too many bandages again.
"Tsch! Enough! I'm fine, and I can take care of myself! Just eat your damn food!"
Broly wondered what caused the long-haired warrior to snap, but then again, Raditz tended to snarl occasionally. The wild-haired Saiyan ignored Raditz's mumbling and resumed eating. He slurped the ooze from the spider's body while Raditz shifted into a sitting position and shut his eyes.
The young warrior took a deep breath and shortly after let it out. He attempted to concentrate and get the hang of his energy and everything surrounding him. For the past week or so, he has tried to master his ki-sensing ability and manipulate his energy at will. However, Raditz found it to be extremely challenging and frustrating. No matter how much he tried to empty his mind, thoughts from the past lingered. He couldn't eliminate those obstructions no matter how hard he tried. Annoyed by it, Raditz emitted a low growl.
"Don't think. Just be calm, and it will come."
Upon hearing Broly's advice, Raditz opened his eyes and snapped at the kind Saiyan. "Tch! Maybe you can turn off your brain, but I can't! Besides, you're not a good teacher! Just be quiet!" He got up, flew to the cave's far corner, and sat facing the wall.
Broly scratched his head while he watched the Saiyan cuss and yell at the rocky wall. The son of Paragus dropped the empty shell on the ground and wiped his mouth. He rose from the ground and stretched before he resumed working out. Ever since he and Raditz began training, he immersed himself in it and worked out daily. It was a different experience from the time his father trained him. He found himself enjoying pushing his body to the limit. The gentle Saiyan dropped to the ground, doing push-ups with a grin.
Meanwhile, thoughts consumed Raditz's mind. He thought of his life and all the obstacles that came his way. Images of his former companions Vegeta and Nappa surfaced along with their mocking laughter. The pair loomed high and mighty above him while chuckling at little him. Raditz shook his head and exhaled. His thoughts shifted to a menacing figure standing atop the universe. The Saiyan shivered at the image of the malicious Freeza who ruled over the dreadful Freeza Force. Cold sweat slid down his face while his closed eyes quivered.
However, Raditz's thoughts took him to another place. He saw a woman with gentle eyes and medium-long hair holding a baby with wild hair. His features calmed upon reminiscing about his mother, Gine, and younger brother, Kakarot. He focused on his mother and brother until a figure with a scar appeared. The figure had the same wild hair as his younger brother but a stern expression and an intimidating look in his eyes. Raditz's face twisted between admiration and disdain. Confusion arose within the low-class warrior, who grew frustrated.
"Enough! I've got to stop these thoughts from tormenting me! Just let it go and breathe..."
The Saiyan bashed his head against the wall out of a cry for help. While blood rolled down his temple and the left eye, Raditz once again exhaled and took a deep breath. Nothingness surrounded him, and all the unnecessary thoughts were gone. The warrior was at peace for the next few seconds until he felt a massive wave. The wave was large and without an end. It spread all over, and it was about to submerge him until Raditz forcefully opened his eyes.
He found himself out of breath and doused in sweat. "What the hell was that!? Could it be!" Abruptly, he turned around and saw Broly engulfed in a luminous aura while hovering in the air.
Raditz stared in awe at the wild-haired Saiyan, who halted and relaxed. While the gentle male smiled and awkwardly gave a thumbs-up, Raditz snapped out of it and realized Broly had powered up to help him. The long-haired warrior found himself smirking and letting out a short laugh. However, he knew this was just the beginning. He caught a glimpse of how it functioned, and now, he had to work hard on mastering the technique. The warrior responded approvingly and left the cave while Broly resumed training.
The son of Bardock walked out of the lair to get some fresh air and be by himself. However, the moment he stepped out of the cavern, a brilliant glow from above caught his attention. As he looked up, he saw the moon hiding behind the clouds. An intense sensation burned within his core while his tail swayed playfully behind him. The Saiyan averted his gaze and sat on the nearby stone. He closed his eyes and focused on his senses.
A weak wind blew across the land and cooled Raditz's burning body. While his black hair danced in the wind, the cool breeze made him more relaxed and focused. As he remained still and unbothered by the thoughts and outside world, he could somewhat feel something. He could feel a massive flame burning hot with no end behind him. That was Broly, so he tried to sense something else. Flickering flames surfaced all over but eventually died out as they were too far, and he could not sense ki in the distance. However, he could feel a clump of ki gathered together and moving. He tried to figure out where they were but lost concentration upon hearing footsteps.
Broly emerged from the cave covered in sweat. The wild-haired Saiyan sat at the edge of a cliff and stared at the moon, slowly becoming more visible. While sitting in silence, Broly had a somber look in his eyes and touched the middle back with his right hand. The kind Saiyan released a sigh, brought his hand forward and closed it tight. He shifted his attention on Raditz, most importantly, the man's tail.
Naturally, Raditz noticed Broly staring at his tail. It was easy to deduce what was bothering the other Saiyan. He still couldn't believe what Paragus did to Broly's tail. A Saiyan's tail was a source of power and pride; it separated them from other species. Just thinking of the vile atrocity that Paragus did to Broly caused Raditz's blood to boil with intense rage.
However, Raditz stopped his thoughts. He looked away and found himself conflicted by the strange sensation within him. The warrior bit the flesh inside his mouth and wondered what it was. He shook his head and pushed it aside once he noticed the full moon was almost out of hiding.
"Hm. I'm going back in... The last thing I want to do is transform, go on a rampage, and destroy the only thing I can call home on this stupid rock."
The long-haired Saiyan slowly moved toward the cave while Broly remained puzzled until he realized what Raditz meant. He decided to stay outside and stare at the moon, but the gentle Saiyan had something to say.
"I think you're much stronger than when you got here. You should be able to defeat a giant spider now."
Raditz halted at the entrance and stood there frozen. It was the first time since his mother that someone acknowledged that he had grown stronger. Only his mother, who wasn't a warrior, praised him for getting stronger, but he paid her no mind because what did she know? However, Broly, a Saiyan of incredible power, just praised him, which meant something to him. Raditz hated himself for allowing such words to disturb his composure.
Instead of shouting, as usual, the warrior shut his eyes and chuckled softly. "Hmph, perhaps crashlanding on this frontier world wasn't such a bad thing, after all." He spoke silently, but Broly heard him because the Saiyan immediately turned around, stunned to hear that.
However, Broly's expression changed a few seconds later. The Saiyan ascended from the ground as he felt something approaching. Shortly after, a powerful tremor shook the land. He looked at Raditz, who stood underneath the entrance and suddenly wanted to retrieve the warrior. Unfortunately, Broly was too late, and the cavern began to collapse on top of Raditz. He was about to shoot a powerful ki blast to pulverize the giant boulders, but unexpectedly, a horde of massive spiders assaulted the Saiyan.
"Gahh!"
Due to his guard being down, a spider managed to land a hit and cause Broly to bleed. The Saiyan's face twisted with anger as he glared at the spiders surrounding him. Despite feeling strong anger, he thought of Raditz. He glanced at where the cave once stood and saw nothing but rubble. Broly was about to shout when he felt another earthquake, but this time, he knew where it was coming from.
The rubble got obliterated, and Raditz emerged, wiping the blood off his face. "Now you've done it, wretched varmints! I'm going to make you regret destroying my cave! Die!" The long-haired warrior leaned forward and lunged at the nearby spider.
Raditz ducked under the giant beast and delivered a devastating kick to the abdomen. The force catapulted the spider into the air, allowing the warrior to aim and fire a ki blast. While the explosion illuminated the night sky, Raditz proceeded to fight another oversized insect. Raditz managed to take down three of them but started to have problems with the fourth. He also managed to take that one down, but slower, and sustained some wounds.
While Raditz began to struggle, Broly took the larger numbers of spiders by himself. He easily defeated them, but the Saiyan wondered what they were doing here and in such numbers. Broly shifted his focus to Raditz and darted to the warrior's aid, but a sudden noise forced him to halt. He stopped and glanced at the collar around his throat. A dreadful feeling arose within the Saiyan as the beeping noise ceased and the blue light appeared. Before he could even touch it, a robust electrical shock overpowered the kind man and brought him to his knees.
The powerful electricity and Broly's loud cries frightened some of the spiders, who fled. Raditz wondered why Broly's necklace suddenly went off when he heard a loud laughter from above. He looked at the nearby cliff and saw Paragus holding a remote controller.
"Paragus! You bastard! What do you think you're doing!?"
Raditz screamed at the older Saiyan but had to avert his gaze elsewhere as he got attacked. A spider slammed its large, sharp leg against his abdomen, causing the long-haired warrior to cough and bleed. He clenched his teeth and kicked the monster, but another one bit him on the shoulder.
While Raditz cried out, Paragus laughed as he spread his arms. "Your pathetic cries are music to my ears! I will make you suffer a terrible death for what you did to my eye and leg! However, you will come to regret getting in my way of leaving this horrid place, you low-class scum!" The gray-haired Saiyan shrieked with fury and vile hatred while he watched the spiders overpower the son of Bardock.
"Aghh!"
Raditz's scream rang across the wasteland as one of the spiders stabbed the warrior with its sharp tongue and began draining his blood. The long-haired Saiyan clenched his teeth and fired a ki blast out of his mouth. While his blast burnt the spider's tongue and face, Raditz punched the other beast, biting onto his shoulder, thus finally freeing himself. He leaped into the air, hoping to gain some altitude, but the wounded teen suddenly got headbutted by a spider. Raditz crashed against the boulder and groaned out of discomfort.
While holding onto his right shoulder, Raditz glanced at a struggling Saiyan. "Broly! Y-You can overcome it! G-Get up and make that bastard pay!" Raditz rose from the ground but got attacked.
Meanwhile, Paragus slowly descended near Broly once the space around his son was clear of spiders. "Oh, you poor fool. Look what you made me do, Broly. Your reckless behavior and unwillingness to listen to me brought you this pain..." Paragus lifted the finger off the remote, and the electricity faded
While Broly held his head and cried, sprawled across the ground with smoke rising from his body, Paragus continued. "I have no use for your incredible power when King Vegeta is dead, and I have no means off this planet. If anything, your existence is dangerous, and you might kill me. So I should kill you now and prevent the worst outcome from befalling me!" A vile smirk surfaced on the older male's wrinkled face as he stood up.
"F-Father..."
Upon hearing the word, something burst inside Paragus. "Enough! I have no use for you now that I'm stuck here forever! All my dreams of conquering the universe and getting revenge on that despicable Vegeta through your power are over! That's all I ever needed you for! Power!" The Saiyan shouted as he kicked Broly, who was on the ground.
"Do you really think I would have gone after you if you were born with a lower battle power? D-Do you think I would have gone through all the trouble of teaching you how to fight and forcing you to train every day if you were weaker!?"
Paragus was out of breath and stepped back to catch a breath. "Y-You are a curse... Because of you, I'm stuck on Vampa! Because of you, I have to live this life! But I won't let you or that scum kill me!" He was about to hurt Broly again but halted as a spider flew in his direction.
Paragus managed to avoid it in the last second by jumping to the side. He looked forward and saw Raditz covered in blood and spider goo. The menacing look in the low-class Saiyan's eyes frightened Paragus, who couldn't believe Raditz was still standing.
"Old man, it's time for you to pay for everything you've done!"
The older warrior swallowed hard and immediately took flight. He flew high into the sky, but Raditz was in hot pursuit. As they gained altitude and broke through the clouds, Paragus smirked. The Saiyan suddenly halted and turned toward Raditz, who stopped as well.
"You're just like your father, stupid and driven by emotions! A simple-minded fool like yourself didn't even think for a second that I lead you here on my own accord!"
Raditz ignored Paragus's laughter and wondered what the older male meant. It wasn't until he saw the big, round moon behind Paragus that he realized the Saiyan's intentions. Raditz tried to avert the gaze elsewhere, but Paragus appeared behind him and held him firmly. Weakened, he couldn't shake off the older Saiyan, who grabbed his head and pointed him to face the moon.
While Raditz slowly began to change, Paragus chuckled and spoke. "Now that Broly's weakened, you can kill him while in the Oozaru form! You can rampage all you want, but once morning comes and you are unconscious, the spiders will drain all your blood and eat you up!" A sinister laughter echoed across the sky as Paragus flew away from Raditz, who grew larger.
"My plan was perfect! I acted as bait to guide the giant spiders here so they could distract you and weaken you while I dealt with that useless son of mine! At first, I thought they would kill you, but it seems you have grown stronger... Whatever, I will take this victory as well!"
Paragus rushed to safety as a giant ape released a tremendous roar. The older Saiyan landed on a cliff, while the hairy beast landed on the ground, which collapsed under its weight. Paragus watched the ape gain stable footing and begin its path of destruction.
However, the older warrior had other plans for the giant beast. "Now, to give you a little hint of where your target is." With a wicked look in his eye and a twisted expression, Paragus pressed the button on the controller.
Broly's scream and lighting caught the ape's attention. The Oozaru glared at the Saiyan on the ground while licking the sharp fangs. With no control whatsoever, Raditz approached the immobilized Broly with clear intent to kill the fellow Saiyan.
