A/N: Surprise! I bet you didn't expect this update today (neither did I, this is an impulse decision)br /
Have I written everything? No. But I have a few chapters ready so I wanted to start posting again. I didn't think it would take me this long... So for now the posting frequency will be every three weeks, which I expect I should be able to keep up with.
I currently have one chapter betaread and two more written but not proofread. Once I have finished writing, I'll return to weekly chapters (I am optimistic of doing that by the next time I update but that's probably a bit delusional... anyway)
If you follow me on tumblr, you know I have been busy in the meanwhile with some fics (regency, ballet, omegaverse, prehistoric etc). You may have missed the omegaverse fic because it was posted through /
I also started a Hinny discord which you're absolutely welcome to join! /HJ7DRCMEpz
Last time I updated for PsP was in October... working on it now it feels weird to write about billionaires having way too much power (:
Recapping: Harry and Ginny have freshly graduated from university and Ginny is starting her training at the secret agency. Very exciting! I'm sure nothing will go wrong for the rest of this fic!
This fic is way longer than I meant to write it... If you're still here, I appreciate you! This update is for you!
"What do you mean? You have an official training outfit?" Ginny asked.
Harry handed another piece of cooked carrot to June, who promptly threw it on the floor. He turned to her. "Doesn't that make sense? You need to be able to move easily, have enough pockets and eventually a place for your gun."
"Is yours here?" she asked.
He nodded. "Do you want to see it?"
"I want to see you wear it."
Harry sighed, stood up from the table and disappeared into their bedroom.
Ginny smiled at June. "You could consider not throwing the carrots, you know? Just leave them on here."
June turned her green eyes to her mum, squashing another carrot before laughing.
Ginny smiled. "Well done. Absolutely destroyed it."
While June was still occupied with her food, Ginny cleaned the rest of the table up until Harry appeared again.
He was wearing black boots, cargo trousers with a holster on the thigh, a light grey long sleeve shirt—sleeves that he had very evilly rolled up to his elbows—and a shoulder holster.
"It has several types of gun holsters so you can switch it out depending on what you need. It also has a set of prescription bulletproof glasses—that you wouldn't need obviously—and…"
Ginny was not registering much of what he was saying.
He stopped talking and looked at her.
"Turn around."
Harry did a full turn.
She walked up to him and placed a hand on his chest.
"I am not sure why but I have a feeling you find this sexy."
She nodded and let her hand slip down. "It's funny you don't know why."
"You cannot tear this off me, but I can put you on the roster for the afternoon somewhere."
She beamed at him. "Who else is on the roster, Mr Potter?"
He crossed his arms. "Miss June from one to three for an interrupted nap and then from four to six for tummy time and a bath."
"Alright then," Ginny said. "Fit me in somewhere."
He took hold of her hips and kissed her. He turned back to go change when she stopped him.
He faced her again.
She took several steps back and looked at the whole of him to commit it to memory. "Now you can go."
While Harry went to change out his training clothes, Ginny continued clearing the table and cleaning off June as best as she could. She took June out of her chair.
"I'm so not ready to put you in daycare." Ginny kissed June's ginger hair. "You're still so small."
Harry walked back out. "She'll do great."
Ginny met his eyes. "But she is tiny."
"So are you," Harry said with a grin. "She's going to take after you and in six months she'll be chatting all the toddlers under the table."
Ginny opened her mouth to say something but then closed it again.
Harry took June from her arms. "Let's get the miss down for her nap." He walked to June's closet, taking out a onesie. "It's not that I'm not going to miss her," he continued, "but I don't think she could be in a better daycare than there."
"I know it's a luxury," Ginny agreed, "but still."
Harry finished changing June and held her up next to his face.
"She really does have your eye colour now," Ginny noted.
"Good thing," Harry said. "Was just a copy of you before. Needed a bit of credit, huh, June?"
Ginny chuckled and turned to her phone to check what her mother replied to the photo of June eating—or more like not eating—the carrots. She let out a sigh.
"What?"
"My mum is complaining again that June is going to choke and that if we don't want to puree everything, she is happy to bring them over in tupperware."
Harry shook his head lightly. "Does she think I'm not willing to do that for my daughter?"
"I'm sure she didn't mean to put it that way." Ginny put her phone aside. "She seems to feel attacked that we are doing things differently than she did it even though it worked fine for her."
"We're not passing judgement," Harry muttered. "Did you send her the article?"
Ginny nodded. "I did but I don't think she read it. She replied she was still going to feed June like that as if she expected me to disagree when I don't care. Do you want to try to convince her?"
"Not a chance," Harry said. "Let's go to sleep, my June-bug!"
Harry left, cooing at June and Ginny looked at her phone where her brothers had chimed in, cheering June on for making as much mess as possible.
Harry drove into the parking garage of the agency. It was Ginny's first day of training and his first day as a full-time agent. On top of that it was June's first day at daycare.
It was a big day.
Harry walked her to the front desk. "I'll put her in daycare. Say goodbye to mummy."
Ginny kissed June on top of her head and then kissed Harry. She resisted shouting advice that he should pass on to the daycare worker and turned to the front desk clerk to sign in.
Once she had received her badge, she passed by the department called 'wardrobe' where they took her measurements and already gave her a training outfit similar to Harry's to start with. She was just a smidge disappointed to find out she would get the holsters later even though she wasn't allowed to handle a gun yet.
She changed into the training outfit in one of the changing rooms and then made her way to the office of Gawain Robards. She gently knocked on the open door.
"Miss Weasley, come in and sit down," he told her.
She walked in. "Good morning." She sat down on one of the chairs and waited for him to speak.
"I am Gawain Robards, I am the Head of Training for the entire agency. This means that I manage the training of both new hires such as yourself but also of any other employee," Robards explained. "You will receive training from specific people. Some of those trainings will be in groups—we have people training here at different paces and with different purposes—and others will be one to one."
She nodded to indicate she understood when he briefly paused.
"Any free time in your schedule during working hours we expect you to use to your own discretion. You can use it to study, train on your own or use our gym. We do require you to meet a minimum level of fitness that you are not currently meeting."
This did not surprise her at all. She hadn't exactly been working out much before she got pregnant and after that, it really fell to the wayside.
"Now I do know you gave birth six months ago so if we need to move the goalposts a little for you, we can do that."
Ginny shook her head. "I don't think that will be necessary."
Robards looked at her for a moment and then nodded. "Alright." He slid a phone to her. "This is your phone. You will receive your schedule on there. It has a dual sim so you can use it with your personal number but you need to keep the contacts strictly separate and use the secure mode as applicable. Miss Tonks will walk you through using it."
Though Ginny didn't think she needed instructions on using a phone, she perked up at hearing a familiar name.
"If there are any concerns with any training or issues, you can contact me. You also have Mr Potter as a training mentor, in anticipation of a potential partnership. He will explain the more general workings of the agency to you and will join you on any training that may need partner work. We do expect you to also work with others so we will arrange it as we see fit. It's important you can work with anyone in any environment."
She nodded. "Of course."
"I will have regular meetings with you to check in how it's going," Robards said. "If you do well, you can be cleared to do some work but the riskier cases you'll only get access to when you're fully trained.
"We will increase your workload and projects as you proceed. Mr Potter already has a few ties to prior projects so we do hope to be able to get you in those when relevant. Of course you will need to take the partnership test first, this would likely be early September but we can talk about that later." He looked at her. "Do you have any questions for me?"
She shook her head. "I think that was clear."
"You can go by Tonks first and then you can access your schedule for the rest of the day through your phone."
Ginny stood up. "I will do that. Thank you for your time."
For the first time since she entered, Robards smiled. "My pleasure."
Ginny made her way to the technology department and Dora appeared in the corridor and waved at her.
"I was just coming to see if you found your way!" she said, walking back inside the room.
There were several computers on tables against the wall and then a bunch of tablets, phones and other devices at a table in the middle.
"This is where you come where you need a specific phone for a job," Dora said.
Ginny eyed the man in the corner, staring at his screen. He was wearing headphones and hadn't looked up since she entered.
"That's Mike." Dora walked to him and tapped him on the shoulder.
Mike turned around. He looked to be an average man in his mid-thirties. He took his headphones off. "Hi." He held out his hand. "I'm Mike. I don't think we've met."
"Ginny," she said, shaking his hand. "New hire."
Mike smiled. "Oh, yes I know. Dora told me! You're with the Potters."
"True," Ginny said. "Even gave birth to one."
Mike chuckled. "That would definitely put you with the Potters."
Dora turned back to Ginny. "He's trying to recover data from a compromised disk."
"Yes," Mike said. "No luck yet." He smiled at her and then popped his headphones back on and returned his focus to his screen.
Dora told her to sit and helped her transfer her data to the new phone and then told her how to use the secure mode, use the hidden camera modes and access the agency's messaging system and database.
"You need to understand that they can see everything you check in the database. You may be tempted to look up people you know personally, but I advise you not to do it. Nothing good comes of it. Not here and not in your personal life."
Ginny nodded. "Harry has spoken about that. I think he was sorely tempted to look up an ex of mine, but he never did it."
"If we have grounds to do it, we can but it's not something to abuse. There is an incredible amount of sensitive information on there and the more clearance you have, the more you'll find." Dora handed her phone back. "Use it wisely."
She nodded. "I will."
After a bit more advice, it was time for Ginny to attend a first-aid class and then a class about gun-safety where there were other trainees joining. They didn't seem too interested in making friends but Ginny remembered what type of people the agency seemed to select. Loners with little connection. She figured they'd feel more at ease soon. She had the benefit of already knowing many people at the agency.
Even Mrs Pomfrey was familiar to Ginny. She had never met her, but Ginny remembered Harry speaking about her before. Ginny hung onto her every word, because she knew what a difference the first aid could make.
As soon as lunch started, she walked to the daycare only to find that Harry had just gone to pick June up. She met them in the corridor just outside.
"And?" Ginny asked.
Harry smiled. "They said she behaved really well." He happily handed her over.
Ginny pulled June close and smelled her head because she just adored that scent. "Hi, my baby."
"How is it going so far?" Harry asked.
She smiled. "Very good. A lot of information to take in at once."
"Yeah it's a lot of theory at first, but you'll get into more interesting stuff later."
They were joined at lunch by Lily and James. She shared what she already had done in the morning and they nodded along and gave her tips.
When it was five minutes before her next meeting, she stood up. "Come on, Harry. I don't want to be late."
He tilted his head. "You're having a meeting with me ."
"Yes. Chop chop. We still need to return Junes."
Lily chuckled. "Don't set a bad example, Harry."
Ginny laughed and shot Lily a wink. They returned June to daycare. Harry walked her to the area with meeting rooms, picking up a folder on the way. He guided her into a smaller meeting room and closed the door.
She settled down across from him and though they sat apart, her feet leaned against his under the table.
"Do you have any pressing questions yet?" Harry asked, opening the folder.
"Yes," she said.
"Go on," Harry said, grabbing a pen from the bowl in the middle of the table.
"Does Robards' job title abbreviate to H.o.T? Because he's Head of Training."
Harry dropped his head in his hands and snorted. "You should have asked him that directly." He lowered his hands and let out a fond sigh as he looked at her. "That was your most pressing question?"
"Yes."
"That training outfit looks great on you by the way," he said.
Ginny chuckled. "Do you get it now?"
"I do." He looked at the papers again. "I love that they printed a profile of you for my information." He showed her the first page.
"It literally says in a relationship with Harry Potter. Daughter June Potter."
Harry put the paper back down. "I suppose it's protocol."
"Robards said you have projects already tied to you. What would those be?"
"Good point," he said, going to the back of the folder. "These two I have worked on before." He slid the papers to her. "As long as we pass as college students, they will likely put us on those projects. There is a club that needs surveillance occasionally."
"Why?" she asked.
"Drink spiking," Harry said. "But possibly tied to human trafficking."
Ginny's jaw dropped. "You're joking?"
"No. It has quieted down but if there is an alert on it again, it will be up to me to follow up. Reports would come in through the police and we can investigate it if necessary.
"And the other?" she asked, looking at the papers.
"A suspected serial murderer going after illegal immigrants. They are not documented so they are not always reported and there is no paper trail. Victims are hard to identify." He sighed. "I'll show you some of the victims at some point if you'd like, but perhaps not right after you've eaten."
Ginny nodded. "Perhaps not."
"The other project," he continued, "that is not in there is of course Tom Riddle. Multiple people work on it because it's such a major issue, but considering my prior involvement I am automatically looped in."
She nodded. "Of course. I suspect I don't have clearance yet to see that one."
"Not really," Harry admitted. "It's a lot of dead ends and things we can't take to court. He is so precise with what he lets slip, it's frustrating."
"I bet."
"Did you make any friends yet?"
"No." She shook her head quickly. "And I think the breast pump aggravated things, even though Pomfrey said she didn't mind and you can't even see it!"
Harry chuckled lightly. "I am sure that didn't help." He shook his head. "It's difficult to start in something so secretive. Most of those people have trust issues, which can be healthy in a job like this, but it takes time for them to settle. It'll come."
She shrugged lightly. "It's fine. I don't have to get along with everyone. If all goes well, I will be working with you for the most part."
He nodded with a smile.
"And I survived Felicia for a year. I can tolerate people being stand-offish for a few hours a day," she said. "I think they also felt it was weird that I was new but people somehow knew who I am."
"I swear it wasn't me, but my parents are very excited about introducing you." He closed his eyes. "And obviously calling you their future daughter-in-law."
Ginny smiled. "They're not wrong."
"I will go to the gym at three, I have some free time. Are you joining?"
She shook her head. "I have gun theory at 2.30 and then interrogation tactics an hour later."
"Interrogation tactics are with Sirius," Harry told her.
"Is he good at it?" she asked.
He nodded. "Very. He can manipulate people easily, only very rarely loses his composure… he's the best to learn from."
"Can't wait," she said.
He leaned his head on his hand. "Do you have other questions?"
"No, but I could use a nap," she deadpanned.
"Oh my god, I know," Harry agreed, taking off his glasses briefly to rub his eyes. "I am so tired already."
She grabbed his glasses and took a wipe out her bag, cleaning them.
"Suppose we need to adjust."
"I guess so. It's not like I've been that busy today." She handed him his glasses back.
He put them back on his nose. "Thanks."
"What did you do today?" she asked.
"I read up on some dossiers, made notes where needed and did some shooting practice. I have a meeting with Robards too to assess how I'm doing the mentoring since it's also the first time for me." He smiled at her. "Pretty standard stuff."
"Yes, shooting guns. Standard job stuff," she said with a wink.
He laughed, closing the folder again. "It is in this job. More than stakeouts and active investigations."
"Right," she agreed lightly. "So are you completely finished with your training?"
"I am," he said. "But we get refresher trainings—especially if you were out for a while—and there are always new things to learn but I'm a fully-trained agent."
She bit her lip and shot him a teasing look. "Sexy."
"Please don't flirt with your training mentor during working hours."
She leaned forward. "What about after hours?"
She could see he was fighting a smile.
He cleared his throat. "I feel ill-prepared for this meeting."
"You can ask Robards how to handle me," she suggested.
He snorted and shook his head. "I don't think he would have any idea. I'm on my own for this one."
Ginny pulled June closer to her and rested on the couch. "I missed you so much."
Harry plopped down on the couch beside them, letting out a big sigh. He caressed June's tiny cheek with his finger.
"What do you want for dinner?" he asked.
She shook her head. "Let's just get takeout."
"No, June needs to eat with us. We need something proper," he insisted.
She smiled. "Maybe our nugget is ready for a nugget."
"Ha." He snorted. "No. She is a really big nugget now. More like a whole chicken."
Ginny's eyes twinkled. "One of those big ones with the feathers down their legs."
"Exactly." Harry squeezed her thigh. "We could do that place with the wraps. I think they have something June could eat."
"Sounds good."
He observed June. "She's being really quiet. I think she's happy to be back with her mum."
"I know," she said. "Is it bad that I am happy she missed me?"
"Maybe a little," he said with a chuckle. "But look at that little face." He took his phone out and snapped a picture.
"You're going to send that to the whole family, huh?"
He nodded without hesitation. "How else would they know we have the cutest baby?" He showed her the picture. "Look at those rosy cheeks."
"She's the cutest," Ginny said. "I want her to grow up but I also want to keep her like this forever."
Harry turned his body towards her. "She has to grow up so she can be a big sister one day. She needs to make way for other babies."
"Don't you fu—dging start," Ginny warned. "No."
"I didn't say now!"
Ginny glared at him. "You know what that does to my hormones?"
"Keep them in check!"
"I can't keep them in check; I have a bloody baby!" she shot back, tucking June closer against her chest. "Go order food and stop looking at me."
"Alright." He kissed her head. "Be a good girl."
She huffed. "Don't 'good girl' me!" she complained as he walked away.
He opened his laptop on the table, scrolling through the food options. "Did it help?"
"Yes, it did but the fact that you know that about me does not."
He shook his head in amusement. "It's not my fault you're a lost cause."
She got up with some difficulty. "It is." She walked to the changing table. "Alright, June. Who needs a nappy change?"
June giggled.
"Yes, you do," Ginny tickled her tummy.
Harry kept glancing up at them instead of the laptop. He walked up to them and watched over Ginny's shoulder.
She smiled broadly at June. "Did you lure daddy over with your giggles? Yes, you did!"
Harry brought his arms around her. "Her giggles are the greatest sound."
Ginny pulled the snaps of her onesie open. "This isn't entirely the best way to do nappies."
"I'll be your third hand," he offered. "Fourth if you need it."
"Hold this." She pressed a nappy into his hand. "Did you order the food yet?"
"…No."
"Harry…" she complained.
He kissed her cheek. "I'll do it immediately," he said without letting go of her.
Ginny shook her head. "Your dad's a stinking liar, June. More stinky than you."
Harry laughed but didn't move. "I'm helping."
"Sure."
"June thinks we're amusing," Harry muttered.
Ginny shook her head and started changing June, pulling the nappy from his grasp and then pushing him backwards. He got back to ordering the food.
"What are you going to do with your first pay?" Harry asked when he got confirmation the order went through.
She put June on the playmat before righting herself. "Contribute to this household, finally."
"What about for you?" he asked.
"Oh. I hadn't thought about that." She glanced at June. "I'm not sure what I want. Perhaps get a haircut."
"Wild plans you have," he said with a grin, coming up to her.
She nodded. "Maybe I'd look good as a brunette."
"Don't you dare," he said. "No."
She squeezed his hand. "I am only joking. What are your plans with your pay?"
"Perhaps one of those jogging strollers. I bet she'd love that."
"Ooh," Ginny said excitedly. "That's a great idea. Robards said I could take it slow if the physical training was too hard on me."
Harry winced. "Did he?"
"Told him it wouldn't be necessary."
"Right." He wasn't in the least bit surprised about that. "How dare he accommodate a new mother like that."
She grinned at him. "Exactly."
