Hey-yo! Long time no see, fellow bronies and readers!
Long story short, I've been in new fandoms mainly in the anime community and having been writing a lot of stories for them on Archive of Our Own and have been enjoying it so much with so many fanfictions being there and being able to tag more of what a story is at it's core! Super helpful!
But anyway, I'm here to tell you that I have revised The Midnight Dance to an original story! And I have been trying very hard to publish it, because after all if Fifty Shades of Gray can come from a Twilight fanfiction why not one of my own creations from MLP?
But... sighs... I apologize in advance for the tangent I'm about to do. As it stands I've received my most recent rejection and... I contemplated about where I went wrong and decided to look further into the company and from my findings I believe that I just didn't fit their box of what sells. Looking over the catalog of books they do sell, I obviously don't hit that mark of what they were expecting. And that is sadly the reality of publishing, there are just certain boxes they are looking for and my works must not fit the mold of what they want.
So many YA novels out there fall into a category of smut and while I can make hints of sexual content happening between a pairing, that doesn't seem to fly for most of these publishers. As I branded this a YA Romantasy and I'm sure they were expecting more of that than an actual story playing out before them and that teens could actually enjoy it without sex getting in the way. Like seriously, this is why the dating scene is so mess-up nowadays when you have mixed signals like that in literature and end up expecting that same outcome to happen to you and not for the better.
Especially if you're too young to understand what the characters are doing in that context. So I already can tell that this a problem bigger than me and I am force to put my original works onto Archive just so I can finally have my stories out there!
