tried to jump away from my former master, but he was fast, and I had a bad right leg so there was really no escape. He grabbed me with his clawed ghostly hand, and tried to choke me. I somehow managed to kick him away with my good leg, but there was really still no way to get away.
This time instead of grabbing me Diminyez stabbed at me with his black dagger, and he scored a hit on my shoulder. I felt it's sickly sting as well as blood. I knew this dagger. It was a dagger that had a poison curse on it, and I knew that I was in trouble.
I once again kicked him away with my good leg, and began to crawl away, but he came toward me to finish what he had started. I knew that he meant to kill me.
Just as he got to me again, something struck him, sending him flying away from me. I turned to see what had struck him, and stared into the face of the dragon that had tried to kill Ugin. His twin brother Nicol Bolas.
I don't know what possessed me to save Serenity, but I did so willingly. Her voice haunted me, and even though it hurt me I wanted to hear her sing again, just for me not for anyone else. Perhaps that's why. I did it.
I looked up into Nicol's face.
"I am not sure whether I should thank you or not," I said.
"Your welcome," Nicol replied as another bone from his ribs fell off.
"How did you even get here?" He asked. "I assume that woman is responsible?"
I again nodded.
"Well there is no escape from this horrible place so you should make yourself comfortable."
"Are we?" I asked, smiling a little. "I don't think that Almarra knows that I am a planeswalker. I have a spark," using the term that Ugin had used.
If a Dracolich's eyes could light up his did.
"You mean that there is a way for me to escape? I will just kill you, and take your spark."
As soon as he finished the sentence he fell over gasping in pain.
"Cursed leaking Phylactery," he spat as he lay there arching his back fighting the pain. I began to feel bad for him.
I looked around, and among the dirt not too far away from Nicol lay a small stone made of Onyx. I slowly got to my feet, and made my way over to the stone picking it up.
"You mean this?" I asked.
"What are you doing if you break that I will die."
"I know," I said, seeing the crack that was on it. "It looks broken already," I said.
"That is why I am in this undignified state. That witch cracked it, and my soul is leaking out causing me to suffer."
I nodded. I again actually felt a bit sorry for Nicol, but only a bit. There was an idea forming in my head, and I needed him to help me do it.
I looked up at him.
"You want to get out of this horrible place, and I want to get back to Ugin. I propose that we work together."
"Or I could take your spark, and leave this place myself," he replied.
"How? Look at yourself, you are literally falling apart."
Nicol had no answer to that one so I gave him one. I began to sing, and the Phylactery began to glow with a prismatic light. Nicol's body began to restore itself, and within a few moments he was back to his full strength.
He stared at me. "Why?"
"I keep you alive, and we get out of this place, and you help me get to Ugin. Deal?"
Nicol looked at me thoughtfully.
"What happens to me when we get to Ugin?" He asked.
"Not my place to decide. He is your twin brother," I said, "but I feel that anything is better than dying in this horrible place," I added.
Nicol nodded. "You're right," he said. "I agree to your terms." he said, and offered me a hand. I took it, and shook his pointer claw.
"I have one more question."
"What is it?" I asked
"Why did you choose Ugin when there are far more powerful dragons?"
"Power had nothing to do with it," I replied.
Nicol shook his head.
"I don't understand."
"You don't have to. Now let's get out of this dreadful place."
Nicol picked me up holding me in his hand once I had safely pocketed the onyx stone.
"Hold tightly to me," Nicol stated. "I am undead, and thus can travel the blind eternities, but I need your spark to guide me so we must stay together," he explained.
I nodded, and held onto a finger as he held onto me as well.
"Are you ready?" He asked
"Yes, let's go." I said.
With that, I closed my eyes, and we disappeared into the blind eternities leaving the plane of pandemonium far behind us.
Dimenyez watched them go.
"Have fun getting away with that daggers poison in your body, you will not live for a very long. wait until I tell Lady Almara she will be so pleased."
He then began cackling with insanity.
