Steve had made it to the DX, unable to get Rachel off of his mind. The more he was around her, the more his heart pounded. His face would get redder and redder. At one point, he wanted to punch himself in the face, thinking that he had come on too strong towards her. Was his feelings about her coming true?
When got there, Soda was already there, behind the front counter. "Hey, Steve," he said when he saw his best friend. "Hey, man," Steve greeted back. "How is Rachel doing?" Sodapop asked him. "She'll be alright," he said vaguely as he clocked in. He was finishing up a car that was in the shop.
He could barely get that done because his mind was towards Rachel. When their break came around, Soda came into the shop to check on Steve. He noticed how quiet he had gotten and knew it wasn't like Steve to be this quiet. Not even when many girls walked into the store, was he ever intersted in them. It was really strange.
"Hey, man, are you alright? You're really quiet today," he asked him, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Huh? Yeah, I'm fine," he said, lying through his teeth. Soda wasn't convinced at all when he said that. He knew him all too well. "No, you're not. Don't lie to me, Stevie. I know you well enough to know when something is bothering you," Soda said sternly at him.
Steve glanced over at him, who was giving him a look. "Okay, I'm just confused. I can't understand why I'm feeling like this," he said, which puzzled Sodapop. "Like what?" he asked him, crossing his arms over his chest. "I can't think straight, Soda. Ever since I first saw Rachel… my heart won't stop pounding. My face gets really hot like it's on fire. She's constantly on my mind. I've never felt this way with Evie. Not once," Steve admitted.
Soda listened to what his best friend was saying. He knew what was causing him to feel this way because he was the same way with Sandy at the time of them dating. "Steve, you're in love with her," he chuckled, smiling at him. Steve's face became redder when Soda said that. It made so much sense now. "Oh my god… I am in love with her…" he said, covering his face with his hands.
"What'd I tell you?" Soda said with a smile. "I can't be!" he exclaimed, dropping his hands. "You've only known the girl for a couple of days though," Soda clarified. "Christ, I know it!" Steve groaned out, throwing his head back.
"It was love at first sight. I saw it on your face the second you looked at her," Soda said. Steve sat down inside of the car that he was working on. Soda leaned on it so he could look down at him. "Is it really? I've never been like this with Evie… or any other girl I've been with," Steve sighed, running his hands through his hair.
"Well, it's obvious. You two have a lot in common and have the same interests," Soda said with a shrug. "Yeah, you're right," Steve agreed with them. "Stevie, ask her out on another date," he suggested, giving Steve a shove on his shoulders. Steve couldn't help but smile at what Soda suggested. The first date that he and Rachel went on went supurbly so what's to say that a second date wasn't in order?
"I will when she's out of the hospital," he agreed with him, smiling. "Good man. Who knows? She may be the one," Soda told him. "Yeah… God, I can't get her out of head. No matter what I do," Steve told him. Soda grinned at his long-time best friend. "Go for it, man. She's the girl for you," Soda encouraged him.
"But there's an issue, Soda. What if she doesn't feel the same about me?" he asked, making a good point. "Well, it looks like it from how she is with you. Gotta be careful though because Two-Bit was talking about getting to her first," Soda said to him. "Like hell he is," Steve said. "Well, he's been talking about it," Soda chuckled at him.
All Soda wanted was for Steve to be happy since his last relationship with Evie didn't go so well. He didn't think he'd ever find a girl that he could really connect with. He'd do anything to make Steve as happy as he used to be.
(Rachel and Bexley)
Meanwhile at the hospital, Bexley came back with a few snacks. The duo started talking about anything they could, until Bexley brought up Steve. She could see how much Steve loved Rachel. She could see it wasn't like any other girl he was with. "Man, Steve is so in love with you," she said teasingly with a smile.
Rachel blushed madly. There was no way that Steve was in love with her. "No way, Bexley," she said, scoffing at that idea. "Yes way. I can tell it. He's never been this way with another girl," she said while smiling. "I've only known him for a couple of days, Bexley," Rachel said, her cheeks turning red.
"You're in love with him, ain't you?" she asked her, noticing that look on her face. Rachel glanced away, unsure of how she felt about him. "I don't know, Bexley. I've never had a boyfriend in my life," she replied unsurely. Bexley saw the look in her eyes, it was sparkling. "Yes, you are in love with Steve. I can tell," she told her.
"How do you know?" Rachel asked her. "That look in your eyes. Whenever you two see each other, your pupils dilate. Soda had the same feelings when he was with his ex-girlfriend," Bexley told her, remembering how much he loved Sandy before she cheated on him.
Rachel gave it a thought, slowly smiling when she realized that Bexley may be right about her feelings towards Steve. It could be true. "I think I do," she said. Bexley sat down on the edge of the hospital bed. "Tell him how you feel when you see him again," Bexley suggested.
"No, Bex, I can't. Not right now. I can't give myself to him yet. I have my self respect," Rachel said, looking away. She had only known him for a couple of days, so she felt it wasn't the right time to tell him how she felt. "Did you tell him that?" Bexley asked her.
"I said that I didn't do anything more than just hold hands on a first date," she replied to her. "Well, did he get the hint?" Bexley wondered, raising a brow. "Yeah, I think so," Rachel replied. "He's smart enough to understand," Bexley replied, smiling at her new friend.
Bexley felt it in her heart that Rachel and Steve were meant to be together. She saw it whenever they were around each other. It was meant to be for sure.
