Nami briefly freaked out upon discovering her regular compass was entirely out of touch with the new magnetic fields of the Grand Line. Crocus was kind enough to explain how they were meant to navigate using a Log Pose. And before Brynlee could step in to save the day, Luffy, in all of his Luffy-ness, showed them the Log Pose he'd managed to steal from Mister Nine and Miss Wednesday, only to break it mere seconds later when he and Sanji started fighting over the fish he'd just devoured without leaving any for the others.
Usopp and Zoro had to work together to restrain Nami so she wouldn't strangle their either of them. And Crocus, in his infinite kindness, gave them his own Log Pose as thanks for helping Laboon. Brynlee discreetly hid the one she'd brought out earlier – having a spare couldn't hurt, after all.
And then, Mister Nine and Miss Wednesday returned, demanding Luffy and their crew take them back home. While a small argument took place, Crocus came to stand beside Brynlee, the two observing from afar.
"Girl… Here's a piece of advice, as thanks for what you told me earlier."
"Hmm?"
"Your kind is highly noticeable, even without the wings." She stiffened, glancing his way, and a wry grin graced his lips, nodding to her covered back. "No clue how you pulled off that disappearing act, but keep on hiding them. Even without your extra appendages, though, your hair color betrays you."
She scoffed. "There are plenty of dark-skinned people with white hair."
"None have markings like yours."
Unconsciously, she brought her fingers up to her face, gently brushing against the skin where she knew her markings laid – three dark spots the size of the tip of her little finger, symmetrically inked in a semi-circle shape around her right eye. She vaguely remembered King having a tattoo of a similar shape and position, something akin to leaves? She didn't know what it meant, though.
"Here, take this."
Without warning, Crocus shoved an old, thin, worn-out book into her hands. Some pages were falling out, and there was no title printed on the front. Gently prying it open, she gasped upon noticing the first words written at the top:
Lunarians
A Guide to Hunting Gods
She quickly put it away in her satchel, her heart racing a bit. "Thank you."
"Huh. You don't seem all that worried at having been found out."
"I know you won't tell anyone. And if you do… well, I'm sure the World Government would be all-too-happy to come and pick up Gol D. Roger's wayward Doctor."
Crocus paused, his eyes widening the slightest bit… and then he laughed, roughly slapping her shoulder and making her stumble a bit.
"Ah! You're too wet behind the ears to even dream of threatening me yet, lad. I won't even ask. Just make sure those bastards don't find you out."
"I'll try my best. Also, could I trouble you for an autograph?" she politely requested, pulling out her notebook and a pen. "I collect signatures as a hobby."
He paused, then shrugged, signing the next blank page. "I've heard weirder. There you go."
"Thank you!"
"Oi, Bryn! Come on, we're leaving!" called out Zoro, and she only then noticed the rest of the crew climbing back onto the Merry.
"Coming!"
She was quick to join the rest of her crew, not even sparing a glance for their… guests. She cheerily waved goodbye to Crocus and Laboon, along with the others. The book in her satchel was burning a hole in her side, but she tried her best to ignore it – she wouldn't risk taking it out until Mister Nine was no longer around, and Vivi was on their side.
Still, I'll have to find a way to hide my markings. If Crocus could recognize me from those alone, there's no telling who else might figure it out – even more so if they show on my future bounty poster.
"Hey, Nami?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you have some makeup I can borrow?"
