Blazepanzer here, and another Pokemon fanfic! This is actually something of a rewrite to a story that I had began, but realized that I didn't quite like the idea of where it was going, hence this rewrite. I did like the idea, and a lot of the concepts, but I felt like it could be done better.
One of my biggest gripes with the original was the constant pov changes and how disjointed it seemed. This time most of the chapters will focus solely from Hanoashi's or Rikona's pov, and if it switches it'll only switch once or twice at most.
Another was how easy it was for the main characters to integrate into society so to speak. Granted, them being adopted isn't exactly any harder, but I feel like it's more realistic so to speak.
Anyways, enjoy! Note: Blazepanzer does not own Girls und panzer.
"Hanoashi!"
"Rikona!" the Irish girl greeted as she ran up to the taller dutch brunet, hugging the girl firmly. "I've really missed you cousin," she whispered as she gazed up, her dark green eyes meeting Rikona's light green.
"I've missed you too, little cousin," Rikona smiled, petting her on the head gently.
"Pfft...I'm a few months older than you," Hanoashi muttered.
"And yet I'm one hundred sixty five centimeters while you're still just what...one hundred and forty five?" Rikona teased.
"Mennie," Hanoashi pouted good-naturedly. "By the way we just won our first practice match against Osaka co-ed academy," she added.
"Awesome! You'll have to tell me about it later," Rikona smiled. "You handling the T-50 light tank alright? I mean it's a rough tank to drive I hear," she added.
"That it is," Hanoashi smiled. "But I've managed to drive it fairly well for just getting out of the practical," she added.
"So, you ready to play a game of chess or what?" she asked.
"You are on!" Hanoashi growled playfully, following the brunet into the mansion. Climbing up the stairs, the two quickly settled in, Rikona picking white where as Hanoashi picked black.
"So, you and Yukaro still getting along?" Rikona asked as she made the first move.
Hanoashi let out a nod as she settled into thinking. "I think we are, well...we're not exactly dating or anything," she paused, blushing as she made her first move, one designed to entrap Rikona. "But...well...we are talking and being in the same tank helps since we focus on our tasks and such."
"Of course," Rikona laughed, moving a piece to counter her trap.
"Darn it," Hanoashi hissed gently.
"Gotcha huh?" Rikona smirked. "Looser has to wear handcuffs?"
"No thank you!" Hanoashi waved her hand in a declining manner. "As much as you'd love to put me in a pair, it's too embarrassing for me," she added.
"Come on, it's fun!" Rikona urged.
Hanoashi had to let out a bit of a sputter. "Only you would find being in handcuffs fun, Rikona," she stammered as she made her next move. Weirdo, she added affectionately to herself.
"And if it was Yukaro putting you in handcuffs?" Rikona asked as she made a counter move.
"Why would he want to arrest me?" Hanoashi asked bewildered, making another countermove.
"Hm...countering my countermove huh?" Rikona chirped. "Well some guys like placing their girls in handcuffs, but from the way you spoke of him, he is probably not one of them," she added.
"Maus damn right he's not one of them," Hanoashi huffed. Now that would be a deal breaker! She muttered, as she moved her cavalry piece.
"Moving past pawns aren't we?" Rikona smirked.
"All part of the strat," Hanoashi smirked.
"It won't be enough," Rikona declared, preparing another pawn to intercept what she perceived as her cousin's strategy.
Oh, nice counter! Hanoashi smirked as she pretended to remain on her current course, but secretly began changing her tactics on the fly.
"It's all over you you little Ashi," Rikona smirked as she surrounded her king.
"And that is why I never play for handcuffs, still good game," Hanoashi extended her hand, Rikona accepting the handshake.
"That was good, you wanna go again?" Rikona began.
Hanoashi was about to say yes when the door was knocked down. Her eyes widened as she saw two armed men inter the house, both armed with a pistol, which they each pointed at one of the cousins. "Go to that wall and place your hands on it," one of them growled, gesturing to the wall.
"Do as they say, our exit is blocked," Rikona whispered, giving her a sad look.
"W...what to they want with us?" Hanoashi whispered back as she reluctantly complied.
"Probably ransom," Rikona groaned.
Glancing back, Hanoashi froze as she saw them approach, letting out a scream as one of them grabbed her arm tightly. "Let go!" she hollered.
"Stove it or the brunet dies!" the other guard hissed.
Daring to glance toward Rikona, she gasped as she saw the other guard holding a gun to her cousin's head. "I'm sorry...I...I'll be quiet," Hanoashi whimpered, tears flowing as she felt the guard grasp her other hand and she winched as she felt them being bound together. Nooooooo! She whined. I never wanted to be bound up and yet... she glanced at Rikona who was also bound, and had a scared yet slightly determined look on her face.
"And to keep you from screaming," one of the guards smirked, producing a gag and placing it into Hanoashi mouth. It was all she could avoid fighting him from putting it into her mouth.
The next thing she knew her legs were knocked from under her as she found herself on the ground, and her feet held together as he tied them together. "Mha murht!" she growled through the gag.
"Don't care, gotta keep you from running you little bitch," he growled as he then picked her up and carried her out of the mansion, and to her horror, she and Rikona were split up into different vehicles. What is going on? She whispered inwardly as she was shoved into the truck a white can, and her eyes shut as she felt the doors shut.
I'll never see her again. I'll never date Yukaro...or see father...oh Drake! I...I'm so sorry...you didn't deserve to loose another...not after mom died and big brother had to move...she sobbed, tears flowing through her eyes.
After about a good ten minutes she sat up, struggling to make headway but wanting to get comfortable. She tugged experimentally at her wrist, flinching at the pain she felt as she tried to bust out. And Rikona likes this? She growled to herself. I don't get it at all.
She tugged again, winching as the pain shot through her arm. I guess the idea is control huh? She was about to wiggle her feet when the truck went skidding, and for a brief moment she felt weightless.
Then, everything went black.
Opening her eyes, she found herself not in the bed of the tuck, but in the comfort of a bed.
"Hya!"
"Gah!" Hanoashi jumped up, shielding herself with the pillow. "Don't scare me like that Rikon...a..." she paused, gazing around. "Alright then, where is she?" she hissed.
"Woah, didn't mean to scare you, and calm down...please?"
Hanoashi gazed around, glancing at her hands. "Surprised those things didn't leave a mark and..." she glared at the girl. "Did you hire those kidnappers to...well...abduct me and my cousin?" she hissed.
"Woah, settle down, we found you in that truck after it crashed into the ocean next to my house," the girl raised her hand. "Wait...don't tell me that there was another girl with you?"
Hanoashi felt herself shake. "So I've truly lost her then," she quivered.
"Hey if you want to go look at the tuck it's..."
"She was taken to a different truck," Hanoashi's voice shook, before she took her left hand and grasped her right hand, taking a deep breath to calm herself down. "My name was Hanoashi Katoni, and the other girl I was referring to was a Rikona Matsumino," she introduced herself. "My...precious cousin..." she added with a whisper, her voice ending in a quiver as she gazed down again.
"Oh...I'm so sorry..." the girl gazed down. "My name is Nemona, you're...ah...adopted...sister...?"
"At least I know where I stand," Hanoashi smiled weakly, gazing up as she saw her new sister. She had a somewhat darker complexion with brilliant amber, almost orange eyes and black hair with a tad of green highlight. She also had some freckles on her face, something that brought Hanoashi into a quiet smile. Finally...not many people in Japan have freckles...well...Ayumi did, but...
"So...um...I'm supposed to help you catch your first pokemon, so um...are you able to walk?"
"Um sure?" Hanoashi walked over to the other side of the bed. "So um..." she frowned, noticing that she only had on a nightgown.
"You've got a uniform set in the closet over there, pick anything you like," Nemona smiled.
Walking over, Hanoashi picked out a skirt and short sleeve top.
"I'll give you some privacy then," Nemona smiled, as she stepped outside of the room.
Taking the uniform, Hanoashi sighed as she slipped it on. She let out a quiet smile as she exited the room, and saw that Nemona waiting for her. "So um, what's this Pokemon business?" Hanoashi asked.
"Seriously, you've never heard of Pokemon before?" Nemona huffed.
"Nope," Hanoashi shook her head. Well, only in passing. It's not available over the air, and it's not I could afford to get into a trading card game. Maybe Rikona and I could have bought a starter deck or so, but even then twelve hundred yen was twelve hundred yen. Plus I'm not even sure if the Matsumino elders would have approved of it. And since I promised Drake that I'd stick to the Famicom long term and the series was unavailable for it...
"Um Hanoashi, are you listening?" Nemona asked.
"Oh, sorry," Hanoashi snapped back to reality.
"Anyways, there's some Pokemon we can catch nearby here. The academy that we'll be attending usually gives trainers a starter pokemon, but our father believes that we should catch our own pokemon, not just accept one for free," Nemona noted.
"Ah, I see," Hanoashi nodded. "So...what is up with this academy anyways?" she asked as she followed Nemona. "Actually, it would be a good idea if we could also look around for my cousin while we look for Pokemon...if that's alright with you."
"I'll have my father look into it when he gets home from work, but...finding her in Paldea is going to be like finding a needle in a haystack...that is if we start looking with just our eyes."
"I guess so, but if you happen across a Dutch-Japanese girl around a hundred and sixty five centimeters tall with long waist length brown hair and light green eyes, let me know alright?"
"Dutch-Japanese?" Nemona asked, appearing bewildered.
Hanoashi paused, gazing at her in bewilderment before shaking her head. "Ne...never mind. If you see a girl with long brown hair around my age and dark green eyes, let me know." She then walked past Nemona.
"Alright then," Nemona shrugged.
Her dark green eyes scanned the area, and before long she saw a myriad of little creatures crawling around. So these are Pokemon huh? Never imagined that I'd see one in the flesh...unless this is a coma. Of course this doesn't seem like any sort of coma Rikona and I studied...
"Doesn't the beach look awesome?" Nemona smiled.
Beach?" Hanoashi looked down, noticing that she was on the beach. "Co...co...co..." she stammered, her entire body beginning to shake, memories of that night beginning to flood into her mind.
"Hanoashi?" Nemona prompted.
"I...I...I died...flat-lined...several times..." Hanoashi stammered.
"Hanoashi, please, step out of it!" Nemona gasped.
"Huh..." Hanoashi blinked out of her memories as she felt herself being gently shaken. "Nemona..."
"Yeah?" The girl asked.
"Promise me that they are no cone snails," Hanoashi whispered.
"Cone snails? What are those?" Nemona asked.
"Ne...never mind," Hanoashi shook her head, before sighing in relief. Or she did so initially. Before she knew it the old fear erupted into her again, but with a concentrated effort, she squashed it down.
"Whatever it is, you seem frightened by it," Nemona noted.
"I nearly died after stepping on one...actually I did flat-line a few times so..." Hanoashi sighed. "This whole Pokemon thing...this...entire thing is weird."
"You come from a different world? You wouldn't be the first..." Nemona suggested.
"I guess that means that they are no cone snails, so it's all good then," Hanoashi smiled.
"Your Rotom phone can help protect you," Nemona smiled.
"Um...what?" Hanoashi asked, frowning as she spotted a small, thin brick following her around.
"Ah yes, kind of a protective and communication device," Nemona smiled. "Apparently ours were having quite the chatter while we were out if you will."
"So this brick will keep us safe then," Hanoashi gazed at hers in awe as it hovered in front of her.
"It's a phone, not a brick," Nemona pouted.
"Doesn't look like any phone I've ever seen," Hanoashi mused.
"Well anyways, shall we move up into the mountains?" Nemona asked.
Hanoashi nodded eagerly. "Please do," she whispered.
"You're really scared of these cone snails, aren't you?" Nemona asked.
"Yep. Had constant nightmares of them since I was six, still sometimes wake up with them...so if you hear or see me suddenly wake up in fright...that's probably what happened," Hanoashi noted, taking a relieved breath of fresh air once they had began the trek into the hills. "That house over there is for sale?"
"Yep! Kind of excited to see who the new neighbors are," Nemona smiled.
"Wish it could be Rikona," Hanoashi sighed. Poor Rikona...she must be so scared...she cried inwardly, but did her best to hide just how upset she was over the situation.
"You must really be worried about her...were you close?" Nemona asked.
"Practically as close as sisters...maybe a bit too close," Hanoashi confessed, blushing at just how much physical contact she and her cousin had, not that either seemed to mind it too much.
"Aww..." Nemona cooed. "Don't worry, we'll find your cousin, Hanoashi, I promise you," Nemona declared.
"Thanks sis," Hanoashi smiled.
"You took to that quickly," Nemona smiled at her in return.
"Well, I always wanted a sister, especially since my brother had to move to America after...after my mother died..." Hanoashi trailed off. "Yu..." she whispered as she remembered the dutch-Japanese girl who was her mother, not that you could outwardly tell that she was Japanese by looks.
"It sounds like you had it rough...was Yu your mother?" Nemona asked softly.
"She...died in a company fire trying to make sure that everyone else got out. My father...Drake...he nearly died in the fire as well." Hanoashi gazed out at the ocean from the hill outlook. "He'll probably succumb to the rest of his injuries once he finds out that I'm missing..."
"How bad was he?" Nemona asked as she join her, placing her hands on the railing.
Hanoashi stood with her hands behind her back, her voice quivering. "He...he was bad Nemona. He couldn't work for a living...and he didn't have enough resources to take care of both me and my brother, Nova." She paused, leaning on the rail as she began to shake at the memory of how bad her father was.
Nemona was about to say something when she squinted her eyes. "What is that?" she noted.
Glancing upward, Hanoashi gasped as she thought that she saw a massive bee flying toward her.
"Hanoashi...run!" Nemona whispered.
Hanoashi couldn't move, her dark green eyes widened in shock as she saw it zooming through her, and then something clicked. "Desperation?" she whispered, beginning to shake.
"Hanoashi, Beedrill are not to be trifled with, run!" Nemona hissed.
"No, this one means us no harm," Hanoashi shook her head.
"What do you mean no harm!?" Nemona hissed,
Hanoashi could see out of the peripheral of her vision that Nemona was about to drag her away, but the Beedrill had reached them by then, and it was holding an egg. It shoved the egg toward Hanaoshi, as if indicating that it wanted her to take it, which she did, before the bee fell down into the ocean below, a flock of strange blue and white seagulls swarming around the body of the insect.
"No!" Hanoashi gasped, but froze as she gazed at the egg. It was a sort of leathery texture, hard enough to protect whatever baby was inside, but still a bit soft to the touch.
"Let's get the egg home," Nemona whispered. "Guess your first Pokemon will be a Weedle," she added.
"Huh...thought that was a Beedrill?" Hanoashi asked in confusion.
"That was a Beedrill, but they start as Weedle," she let out a smile. "There is lot you need to learn about Pokemon, sis."
Hanoashi smiled at her. "And I have my elder sister to teach me all of it huh?" Hanoashi smiled back affectionately.
"That you do, or what I know. Don't really know much about Beedrill, they're a bit rare here in Paldea, Combee is our typical Bee pokemon flavor so to speak.
"Combee?" Hanoashi asked.
"More docile than the Beedrill, that is until the females evolve into Vespiquen."
"Vespiquen...evolve?" Hanoashi tipped her head.
"Ah yes, evolution is a kind of...maturity pokemon go through. Although the evolution itself is quite sudden when it happens, you'll see some minor changes in a pokemon right before it's about to evolve," Nemona explained.
"Huh?" Hanoashi mused, tapping her fingers to her forehead. "I guess that after seeing that Giant Bee hand me her egg before she died I can believe it, but this whole Pokemon stuff is making my head spin," she groaned.
"Guess we ought to take it a bit easy on the lectures huh?" Nemona guessed.
"Just for a bit, it's interesting so I'd like to know more after we break a bit. Actually...what do I need to make sure this little guy grows up healthy and strong?" Hanoashi asked.
"Well, we have an egg incubator at the house, and that'll pretty much take care of it until it hatches, which shouldn't be too long."
"No pun intended," Hanoashi teased, causing Nemona to laugh.
"Well, guess none intended," she smiled.
Hanoashi carefully carried the egg home, and once there she watched Nemona carefully place the egg in the incubator, smiling as she turned it on, the gentle hum of the incubator illuminating the room. Hanoashi found herself gazing at the egg in awe. "Never saw an insect egg this large, especially up close like this," she whispered.
"You ought to see some of the hives Beedrill can make," Nemona smirked. "From a distance of course."
"I guess giant bees are dangerous huh?" Hanoashi mused, gazing at the egg in curiosity. "By the way, what exactly was wrong with that Beedrill? I mean I'm fairly certain that they normally don't just hand random people their eggs."
"I think that I smelled some pesticide on that Beedrill, but I was too panicked to tell," Nemona shrugged. "There's none on the egg though."
"That's awful!" Hanoashi gasped.
"Remember that these are giant bees, and that they are renowned for being aggressive. Well. Trainer raised Beedrill aren't necessarily, in fact they can grow to be quite affectionate towards their trainers. But...wild Beedrill are a problem.
Hanoashi thought back to then she and her grandfather had a slight spat over cone snails, when he rebutted her for calling them stupid for stinging her like they did. If I hadn't panicked... she shook her head. "Maybe, but they are just wild creatures trying to survive in this world," Hanoashi mused.
"Hmm...you sound like Mr. Jacq," Nemona mused.
"Mr...Jacq?"
"One of the biology teachers at the academy. You'll be attending there with me, albeit as a first year, mother's orders," Nemona noted.
"Awesome!" Hanoashi smiled.
"Now, about caring for Weedle," Nemona continued. "It'll need a lot of handling for it to grow into an affectionate Beedrill, so you'll have to spend a lot of time playing with it," Nemona cautioned. As for food...I'd recommend either the common caterpillar class pellets or the distinct Weedle pellets, each as their own advantages."
"So what would be better?" Hanoashi asked.
"The distinct Weedle pellets, obviously, but since you'd have to order then from the nearby Kalos region, they'd be expensive. Plus feeding it exclusively to Weedle will make it reluctant to eat the common caterpillar class pellets," Nemona sighed. "Of course mom and dad can keep you in the distinct Weedle pellets, but you'd have to return home every few days and the academy doesn't like for the students to stray too far when not on break for the Tri-seasonal treasure hunt."
"Treasure hunt?" Hanoashi tipped her head.
"It happens in May, July, and September. Basically for those months you get to take on the gym challenges and once you've completed all of them you earn the right to try out for the champion ranked assessment. In fact, the next treasure hunt is happening in about a month," Nemona mused, a determined gaze crossing her face. "I'm sure that I'll make the champion rank this time," she noted.
"Champion rank?" Hanoashi asked, tipping her head in confusion.
"Oh, right," Nemona noted as she realized that her new sister had no idea what that was. "the champion rank is achieved by only the best trainers, those who achieve eight gyn badges and then defeat the elite four, plus the chairman...er...woman of the league," Nemona smiled.
"Gym challenge?" Hanoashi tipped her head before sighing. "Perhaps you ought to begin by just sticking to what I'll need to know to properly raise Wasp," she noted.
"Giving your pokemon a nickname already eh?" Nemona laughed. "But Wasp would work good for a Beedrill, as while they are referred to as a bee they somewhat more so resemble wasp in some aspects."
"So what now?" Hanoashi was about to ask when they heard the doorbell ring, in an older man and younger woman stepped in.
"Hi dad, sis," Nemona smiled.
"I see that you're awake young miss," the man smiled at her indulgently. "I trust that young Nemona has informed you about the situation?"
"Um...situation?" Hanoashi tipped her head.
"The adoption, Hanoashi," Nemona deadpanned.
"On..right...thank you for adopting me sir," Hanoashi bowed.
"You from Kanto?" the elder girl asked.
"Um...Kanto?" Hanoashi tipped her head in confusion.
"Perhaps the Kanto equivalent of wherever she arrived from," her new father noted. "By the way my name is Ruben Borrero, and this is Katy, your eldest sister, and of course Nemona your younger older sister."
"My name is Hanoashi Katoni...er...Borrero?" Hanoashi paused uncomfortably.
"You can keep your last name or switch to ours if you want, we left that up to you," Ruben smiled.
"I...I'll swap to your last name if you're sure that's alright," Hanoashi smiled. "Though if I could keep Katoni as my middle name...also..." she paused. "Could...you be on the look out for a Rikona Matsumino? She's my cousin and was in a different truck when I was kidnapped, and I think that she might have also been teleported to this world..."
"I'll keep an eye open. Don't worry Hanoashi, if we find your cousin we'll let you know," Katy smiled. "Actually, if it's alright with you father I'll go on the internet and try to search for her."
"Fine, yeah that sounds good to me," Ruben smiled. "I'll ask around the office as well," he added.
"Th...thank you...Rikona...she...she's very important to me," Hanoashi whispered emotionally.
"I can tell that. There was only one truck crashed in the woods where we found you, but it is possible that she could have been transported into this world," Ruben noted.
"Hey Nemona, is this a Scatterbug egg?" Katy asked as she paused in front of the incubator.
"No, it's a Weedle egg. A Beedrill handed it to Hanoashi before clasping from exhaustion." Nemona sighed. "No way to save it as it fell down the cliff and splattered on the beach," she added, shaking her head sadly.
"Huh...so you got your first Pokemon in a most unexpected way," Ruben laughed. "Young Hanoashi, I can tell that you're full of surprises," he added.
Hanoashi simply blushed in slight embarrassment as she realized that he was right, or that at least her life had been full of surprises.
Next chapter, we'll find out what happened to Rikona.
