Chapter 1

It was another calm day for the busy town of Loguetown. Calm in the way where no pirate started a fight and no tourist made a scandal for the overpriced item in full display everywhere on the market.

Despite this peaceful appearance, though, some people were parked in every corner and roundabout following the marine base. White uniform and blue seagull , the marine were not, in fact, having a peaceful day.

-Order received from Lieutenant commander Tashigi ! The fugitive is going west, toward the silk market ! Stop her at all costs, we must not let her go to the sea !

As a little snail cracked the connection, a smile bloomed on the face of the person they were currently chasing.

-Good luck having me , little seagull…

Right away, the woman jumped from the street and started racing from roof to roof toward the south. Some passers-by raised their heads as a shadow passed on them, only to see a trail of blue hair floating briefly. Some sighed, readjusting hats and going on with the day. Others, more curious, started betting. And the tourist just looked at the native, questioning them.

-You see, it kind of happens every two days or less, a chase between our marine Captain and a gal' from the sea. Pretty entertaining.

Said one of the merchants, ruffling his moustache.

Not that it was very informative, per se.

Pretty much laughing, the woman continued her mad race. She could hear the heavy boots running in every direction. Her fun stopped abruptly, when she felt herself jerked behind, a harsh grip on her hair after going back to the floor. Groaning, she massaged her head, not even looking as a massive shadow covered her.

-Gah, c'mon Lung Cancer, you could'v at least been nice 'nough to let me see the port, no ?

Gruffy, the said person munched on his cigars, looking down at her as he handed her a pair of cuffs.

-That'll be the day I leave this town, Hermès.

Bright lavender eyes looked up, shining with malice as the marine helped her on her feet. Cuffs passed almost immediately, she huffed, making a strand of hair leave her cheek.

-Oy~ Smokey, I knew you cared.

She emphasized her words, trying to lean on him playful. He left her to fall on the floor, face first, starting to walk toward the base as he informed his subordinate of the successful capture.

He gruffed, looking at her with a raised eyebrow.

-And the pig flies. Hurry, the cook made stew .

Comically enthousiast for a prisoner, Hermès started to walk behind, greeting some merchants and civilians she got to know during her stay.

-Y'know, Lung Cancer, s'been what, four years since m'here ? Ya could t'least help a l'dy from the floor.

-And dirtying my hand ? No, thanks.

-Aww, such a lovely host.

Tone dry, he told her to shut up, rolling his eyes in the process. She talked his ears off the whole way, making him sigh in relief as he entered the base, going toward the dinner hall.

-Hurry and make your hands get washed.

Hermès nodded happily, blue curls bouncing as she helped herself in the kitchen, getting a cook to wash her hands. A lot of marines greeted her on the way, as she returned smile and weak waves.

Soon, she flopped on the bench, beside Captain Smoker and Lieutenant commander Tashigi.

-Tashi' you'r a sweet, thank for saving me one !

Getting her bowl of stew, she didn't even check the two of them shaking their heads. Tashigi addressed her.

-You know, Ophelia, for all the bother you give us couldn't you just settle down in the town ? We got to cuff you almost everyday.

-Oh, c'mon, 'Know you all love me' ! Plus, it'll get boring to not see y'all t'much.

Smoker gruffed.

-We could do without the trouble.

-Oh, but it's not like i can do anything~ya don't let me leave~

-Ophelia, stop annoying the Captain.

She chuckled, letting the two marines eat in peace. The meal passing, noise and story around her, she could not help but feel more comfortable, almost slouching in relief among the familiar noises.

Since Ophelia Le Rouge had been abandoned, she had spent four years in Loguetown. Trying to leave at first, Smoker could not figure out why she still had not escaped. She was not the type to get discouraged. The four years and 1165 days he had her placed in a cell could prove that (the last 100 days being the ones where she had not been a trouble.)

Observing her as she trashed around with his sous-fifre, he just could not remember when she had became a part of the marine routine. She was a criminal. She would always be. But to a lot she was starting to be more. To be…

-Loguetown to Marie Geoise, do you here meh Smokey ?

A hand was agitated in front of his face, almost slapping him in the process.

-Gosh, Hermès, what in hell is wrong with you ?

Snorting, the blue-haired woman pinched him.

-You were the one not answering. Now, listen here, can I stay in the court to play chess with Nickost here ?

While he had day-dreamed, some of the sous-officer had joined the table, and were eagerly waiting for an answer. Grumbling , he just allowed it. As long as he didn't have to pursue her again around the town, he could not care any less for what she did. Right ?
