Lou slouched over his bathroom counter, his head down and breathing heavily as if he was just about to throw up, He was fine when it came to his physical self, there was a bandage wrapped around his hand that went up to his wrist, it was the wound he had received when at the Slaughterhouse, fighting off Chase and Rocky and their friends that came afterwards. Lou raised his head to face himself in the mirror, his expression was fierce and torn with guilt, he stared into his own eyes in the reflection, hate burned inside him, making him want to reach forward and strangle himself. Suddenly, a knock on the bathroom door snapped him out of it.
"Yeah?" Lou asked out, reaching over to open the door. Seeing Griffin on the other side. "You alright?" Griffin asked, seeing something was troubling Lou. "Nothing important" He stated, brushing his bandaged hand a bit against the counter. "Okay, I need you to go to the lower floors and help the servers bring up some stuff, also moving around some tables and chairs" He asked his son.
"Oh okay, What's the occasion for the party?" Lou asked.
"Not much of a party, and more of plead at this point. Since Susanna's diner chain was such a big buyer of farm produce, with her gone the buying is going to come to a fault, which means less money. So I have no choice but to let other food chains and markets do the buying for us, They're hesitant to open up in Katt County so a bunch of fat cat corporates will be here to tonight to discuss it" Grifin explained, knowing it was going to happened sooner or later, Susanna being such a big influence in the buying market, with her gone, someone needed to step in make sure the circle of capital kept spinning.
"I've already went all out on this gathering, I want to do whatever it takes to get these corporations to buy into our county, This cannot go wrong" The feline insisted. "I know, I can talk to Reno about security" Lou suggested.
"He already knows, hopefully Paw Patrol will be too busy sniffing each other's rear ends to bother"
"There's no need to hope when every single entrance will be guarded tighter than a forte" Lou replied.
"I wouldn't put it past them if they succeeded, I've learned to never underestimate those dogs, They're more trouble than a tick in my neck" Griffin snarled, flocking his tail as if trying to get Paw Patrol off his mind.
"Whatever I suppose, just finish up whatever you were doing and get down there" Griffin remind, almost turning around as he locked eyes with Lou, Lou looked like he was staring right past him even though there was nothing to look at, his was clearing thinking of something else.
"You sure you're okay?" Griffin asked, now seeming more concerned. "Im…Fine" Both those words sounded forced and insincere. Griffin, with one swift leap, jumped up onto the bathroom counter, being more level and up close to Lou now.
"It wasn't your fault" Griffin said, he didn't need to elaborate to what he was referring to.
"I know it wasn't, but If I could have fought harder, I could have saved her in that moment"
"Don't think like that, if you would have stayed longer, I would have to bury both your bodies. I'm just glad you're breathing" Griffin reassured
"Yeah, Yeah I guess so"
"Glad we're on the same page, now get to work, I didn't raise a slacker" The cat said, jumping down from the counter and walking out the door.
"One…Two…Three!" Chase counted down as he gritted through his teeth, in his mouth was the corner end of a large bag of grain, on the other end of the corner was Brax. Both canines dragged the large bag a good distance away up into a small shed, bags just like it laying on small shelf. It took extra lifting for them to bring the back up off the ground slightly and onto the shelf, Chase looked across to see Brax was exerting himself on most normal dogs, most definitely the pain from when he was being held captive was still there.
In the end, the bag slammed down on the shelf when Brax let go, It was fulfilled and the Mountain dog hung his head low and breathed heavily to catch his breathe. "You okay Brax?" Chase asked.
"Yeah, Yeah Im fine"
"You didn't have to help me, I could have asked someone else to help instead"
"Im fine, Its going to drive me nuts if I just sit down and do nothing all day, Besides, I'll feel a lot better doing things than not"
"If you say so, Lets head back to the house and catch up with everyone else" Chase said, sticking close by Brax just encase he edged too close to one side and fell over. "Do me a favour though"
"Sure, anything" Chase replied.
"If Ell asks what I've been doing, Say I went on a walk. She'll kill me faster than anything if she found out I was working on my paws so quickly"
"No problem" Chase replied, both walked their way to the back entrance of the house where they saw Ell in the kitchen, she gave a slight yawn as she turned around to see the two canines walking past. "Oh there you were, Where'd you go?"
"I just took a walk around the orchard and came back" Brax replied, giving a short glance at Chase, wanting to back him up. "Yup, I was just heading in after finishing up a few chores when we met up" The german shepherd said.
"Okay, anyone want some biscuits?" She asked the two of them, not feeling the need to push forward anymore. "No thanks" Both said in unison, walking away from the kitchen they spotted everyone sitting around in the living room. There was a board placed in front of the television, a board that was decorated with different pictures and drawings evaluating each suspect to go after.
"Alright, so, any suggestions?" Lily asked, tapping a small pen against the base of the board. "Wait a minute, you don't have any ideas?" Zuma asked, quite shocked.
"I'd like to see you come up with a half decent plan to snag a Sheriff without a hitch" Lily defended herself, she had some what a point after all, Going after the Sheriff of the County was much more difficult than going after a Judge or a Food chain owner. Lily sighed, thinking someone would have an idea, but they all sat silent, all equally puzzled on how to approach this.
Klaus however raised his paw.
"Do we have to go for Reno, What about the other one?" He asked. Lily looked back at the board realistically apart from Griffin and Lou, there were only two cats to go for. Reno and Tyran. "Tyran, That Celebrity?" Dixon's head pointed up.
"A far as a celebrity can go in this rural county anyways, He's been kept to himself for most of the time" Lily replied. She debated with herself as she turned back around to face the board, looking at the feline's evidence picture, which depicted him smiling with his dark aviator shades.
"He shouldn't be trouble to bag, He's a yowl but no scratch, he couldn't fight a mouse even if it was blind. I'd say best bet would be Tyran, With some luck getting Tyran will make Reno afraid and nervous. Making him more vulnerable for us" Dash commented, All the other dogs looked at him, not at what he said, but that fact he was being helpful and offering ideas.
"Well look at you being helpful, That definitely was not on my bingo card" Brax huffed a chuckle. Dash didn't share his enthusiasm, only grunting away from the mountain dog in response.
"I mean, I suppose we could go after him instead for now, Although its going to be harder to get Reno after this, Hes a lot of things but dumb isn't one of them for sure" She pointed out, as she did, Lily caught in the corner of her eye Klaus becoming more relaxed, and she knew why. Anything that took the stress of himself confronting his brother, he would gladly take. Lily disapproved, but didn't want to point him out or say anything, she'll talk to him about it later.
"Uhhh, Guys, I think we have trouble" Ryder spoke, his head peaking just with view of the window that peered into the front. "What is it?" Dixie asked running over to him and jumping up to the window sill, her heart dropped as she whipped back around in alarm. "Deputies!" she shouted.
Within an instant, all of them jumped to attention. It seemed some where split on what to do, Dogs like Brax and Dash were ready to fight like hell, The ridgeback already getting into a fighting stance even though the deputies weren't even in attacking distance yet.
"No, Don't be stupid you two, It's not going to be worth it. Go and Hide, now, all of you" Dixon ordered, there wasn't enough time to stand and argue or even assess all the options even if they had any. They had to make a split-second decision, and they followed with it.
In an instant, all of them sprinted off in different directions. Some going into different rooms on the floor, some sprinting upstairs, and other going straight down into the basement. "Someone help me with this!" Lily called out, trying to move her evidence board as fast as she could, Zuma coming to her aid as they both moved it into a hallway into another room.
All that was left standing near the door was Dixie and Dixon, it didn't make much sense for them to hide because they were the property owners, best they could so be confronting the deputies to see what they wanted.
"They must have caught on to all the dogs in the area" Dixie said to herself.
"More than likely, but police can only go off of what they can prove, We don't say anything out of the ordinary and they'll walk away without a clue" Dixon replied.
"I dunno, something tells me they're not here just to ask questions" Dixie responded, looking out through the window to see two patrol cars parked outside, as well as a small police van, looking it was designed to cage in multiple prisoners in the back, dog prisoners.
A small group of cat deputies in their feline green uniforms stepped up the front door. Before one could even knock, Dixie opened the door slightly, her muzzle peaking out with her brother right behind her, although not visible.
"Yes?" She asked coldly.
"Good Day Ma'am, My name is Rook and I'm with the Katt County Sheriff's Office" He stated with the top of his hat. "In other news, the grass is still green, why are you here?" Dixon said as he pulled the door a bit wider open, so he was visible too. Both sibling cats standing firm in the way of the deputies.
"We're here to conduct a search of the property for escaped fugitives, we have reason to believe at the worst-case scenario, you are harboring them" The deputy states.
"You must be on some high-grade cat nip if you think you're searching our property. Come back with a warrant next time" Dixie was just about to close her door just as the first deputy place his paw in the door frame, wedging it open.
"Who said we came here without one" He replied, with even asking, another deputy handed him a single document sheet, who then handed it over to Dixie.
Dixie was hesitant at first, but she eventually took it in her paws and began reading. It was indeed a search warrant, Dixon leaned over to see and was just as shocked.
Without warning, the first deputy gave a hard push against the door, sending both the siblings stumbling backward, and in came the police.
"What do you think you're-" Dixie roared, getting back to her paws almost ready to lash at the nearest deputy, until being held back by her brother. The female feline looked back at Dixon, seeing Dixon slowly shake his head. Warning her it wasn't worth it to end up fighting a police officer.
"Lay a paw on any of my fellow deputies or even get in our way, You can expect to spend a few nights in the County Jail" The first deputy said, Both siblings stared down the deputy, Dixon getting back up to his paws and nudging his sister over to the coach. He shared the same emotion Dixie did, she wanted to claw his eyes out, but in the end it wasn't going to solve anything and would have made it worse if anything.
Both hoped up onto the coach and laid down, not as if they were trying to relax but more so trying to stand out of the way, knowing these deputies would slap a charge on them if they so much as blink the wrong way.
"Dispatch, We have two cats detained for the time being, one female one male, I'll stay with them and ask a few questions. Other units proceeding with the search" The deputy relayed over his radio that wrapped around his side.
"Copy" The static voice over his radio responded. All the other deputies followed their procedures and spread throughout the house. Going in groups of two, each group having enough to restrain a canine, like a pole with a thin rope attached to the end to slip around one's neck.
"We're not answering any of your questions" Dixon stated firmly, knowing what the plan was after hearing his talk with the police dispatch. "We'll see, but first I have to read you both something" He said, pulling out a small card from his feline fitted vest.
Two deputies made their way up the stairs and immediately they came face to face with a hallway with numerous doors. All bedrooms, bathrooms, closets, all possible hiding spots for dogs in their minds. One had a long pole for snagging dogs by their throats, although neither of them seemed to confident. "So uhhh…Lets check this one first" Turning to their first door on the left. Pushing it open with his paw just to see a bathroom, small and open.
"One down, around ehhhh, six to go I'd say" The other said. "Shup up" His colleague uttered as he shut the door. The next door, they did the same, slowly pushing it open to see it was just a bedroom. Two beds up against the wall on the side and one dead ahead below a small square window. Didn't seem like much but you could never know where a dog might be hiding. "Check the obvious places, under the beds, the closets, everywhere" One said, already getting to work, peaking downward to see underneath the beds. So far nothing.
"Not many spaces to hide in here" The other deputy commented, until hearing clicking sounds from behind him, it sounded like running. "Hey sardine breathe, Over here!" Both cats turned around and saw a cockapoo, it was Skye, taunting the two cats with her tongue out, spitting all over and she dashed back down the hall.
"Hey stop right there, You're under arrest!" One cat shouted, both running out back into the hall. As they when out in the hall, they saw the cockapoo just narrowly, she had dashed into another room on the far end of the hall. Both felines wasted no time and ran right to where she went into to.
Looking inside they saw a laundry room, but they didn't have to look far to where they thought she went, there was a pull-down ladder attached up the attic of the house. "Got you cornered now!" One of them exclaimed, racing up the ladder with the other following suit. Once up, they looked around, old wooden support beams and boxes of stuff. "Spread out, she could be anywhere" one said.
"Like right here" Skye said, giving away her location, although it wasn't what the cats expected. Both turned around to see she was at the bottom of the pull-down ladder, giving a smile and a wave as she placed one paw under neath the bottom step and flung it up, sending the ladder shooting up and closing the cats only way out. "No!" one of them sound shouted, but it was too late.
Within an instant the attic was pitch black, no windows and no light. "10-60, Officer needs help, One dog upstairs trapped us in the attic" One of them tried to relay their situation through their radio.
"Co….Ten….Nine….adio….bad….ay again….epeat?" A muffled voice came through, but it wasn't much help, with the lack of air flow it was tough to get a good transmission. "Wait hold on, Did you see that?" His deputy friend asked, pulling out a small flashlight from his vest and aiming to where he was concerned. It was just a blanket that slightly flapped, then suddenly a loud bang came from their side.
Shining the flashlight almost immediately to see it was a steel disk of some sort, it rolled around before finally settling down. Then came a pair of wind chimes that made its harmonies string, although the setting made it seem ominous.
Both backed away from the odd sightings, slowly and cautiously, hearing a growl come from behind them, they turned around within an instant, nothing was there. However facing back the way they turned, They saw it. A German shepherd and a Bernese Mountain dog, Both hulking and ferocious when compared to the cats. Both looked feral by their looks, their fur nasty and their teeth like knives, both creeping forward with a look out of hell with smears of red on their paws and along their muzzle, a red stain that looked strikingly like blood.
Yes the cats had more equipment to deal with dogs like this, but in the heat of the moments, both were kittens that wanted nothing more than to squeal for their mothers. Without warning, Both of the canines lunged and bite at the air in their direction. Both the cats fell back in horror right onto the where the ladder came up from, thinking their lives were coming to an end. Until…
"Now!" The Germans shepherd spoke suddenly, both cats looked puzzled until the pull down ladder descended without notice in the blink of an eye, both cats fell back, slamming their bodies and heads onto the steps as they laid on the laundry room floor, unconscious and groaning in pain. "Nice work both of you, You really scared the lights out of them" Skye commented.
"I suppose that fake blood we found really did help a lot, I'd be scared to bits too"
Both Chase and Brax both chuckled at their talent of pretending to be savage. "Two down, Hope Marshall and Lily are having as much luck as we are" Chase commented.
"Sheriff's Office, Come on out, We know you're down there!" One of the two deputies stood at the top at the stairs, down below the basement, and it wasn't exactly the most well-lit. "You scared?" The other deputy asked.
"No, of course not" He stated, taking the first step down the stairs, although all be it slow and steady. "Boo!" His colleague nudged him suddenly in a joking manner, making him jump slightly. "Can you not?!"
"Alright Alright, Fine" The other said, promptly having his back as the two descended downward into the basement. Both getting out their flashlights and shining it each direction. It was a wide space with Barrels stacked up sideways in large slots to hold them, it looked like a wine cellar. Also, crates stacked separately along the walls that were made from brick. "Sheriff's Office, come on out" The same deputy from before uttered, now more timid in his voice as the two paced through the basement.
From above, Along the support beams that cris crossed from wall to wall, steady wood that gave just a foot gap in between it and the ceiling, along the beams was a dark figure, a feline shadow that weaved from beam to beam with ease and silence. It was Lily, watching the two cats from up above, along not too far up as it was still a support beam.
Lily locked eyes with a dog that hid behind one of those barrels, it was Marshall the Dalmatian. Hiding low in between a few crates that spilled over with flour and eggplants. The black and white giving Marshall more of a disguise compared to his fur coat.
The only thing that stood out from out of the pile was parts of Marshall's muzzle and his eyes, Marshall watched as both deputies seemingly would look directly at him but turn away, thinking nothing special. Lily brushed her paw against the wooden beam, sending dust clusters sparkling downward almost right in front of the two deputies. Making the cats freak out and shine their lights upward, only for Lily to switch positions without being seen.
"Its probably the others upstairs" One of the deputies insisted, moving forward, walking right past Marshall. Even shining his flashlight right at the small mountain of flour and baby eggplants, not giving it much of a second thought.
Then, One of the deputies lunged forward un-naturally, appearing to have almost tripped. Luckily for him, catching him on his paws. It didn't take long for Marshall to know what had happened, the cat had tripped over the Dalmatian's tail. "You okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine" The feline responded, shining his light to where he had tripped, It was the Dalmatian's tail, but it didn't click immediately in their brains. "Whats that?" One of them asked.
"Dunno, Kinda looks like a…. like a…." It was on the tip of his tongue shining a flashlight on it, the shape and the strain of fur was so familiar to him. Shining the flashlight from the tip of the canine's tail up to the pile. "Wait a second" He said, squinting his eyes. Without warning, Marshall pushed his front paws outward, sending a cloud of flour flying outward at the cats.
The cats stumbled backward, bumping into the large barrels filled with wine. Luckily it wasn't enough to tip it over. Both cats were scrambling to see, each time they thought their eyes were clear, the stinging feeling of it being inside their eyelids made the pain more extreme. Seeing a good opportunity, Marshall jumped at one of them, Lily doing the same, jumping down from the support beam onto one of them. It was a desperate battle as each time Lily could see their paws trying to reach for something along their sides.
It was a long minute of blind scratching and biting as Marshall tried to gain control of one cat, trying to hold him in his mouth but the feline would just swing from side to side, lashing his claws blindly. Marshall eventually throwing the feline in a separate direction, Lily doing the same as the two cats slid across the room, down but not out. Both getting back up and giving themselves enough space to clear their vision.
Once their vision was clear, it was clear they stood directly at a feline and a dog, Both reaching around their vests to pull their guns, but to their surprise it wasn't there. "Looking for these?" Lily prompted, holding one of their services sidearms whilst the other stood beneath her.
"I know you've both got a lot of property to oversee, but is there anything you've seen over the last few days that we should be aware about?" Rook asked, the one deputy that was stuck with Dixie and Dixon just to ask a few questions regarding things about the dogs. So far however, both sibling cats just stood on the couch. Their eyes locked at Rook as he asked questions, but all he got back was dead silence and no expression.
"Anything regarding dogs what's so ever?"
"…"
"Bumps in the night, missing or damaged property that was there in the morning but gone in the night?"
"…"
"Disturbance issues?"
"…Yes actually, but it was only once" Dixon finally broke silence.
"Oh, Can you describe the event clearly for me?" Feeling as if he was getting somewhere, listened closely.
"It was a day like this, It was today in fact, Yeah, A few deputies from the Sheriffs Office decided to barge into our house, search our home, and waste our time with baseless evidence and brainless 'procedures'" With each word, it seemed like his voice raised just a bit higher and more frustrated by the tone. His sister even felt the need to lean in his way to always stop him from pouncing at the deputy.
Rook, now vexed as ever, breathed a sigh of frustration, realizing that these questions and attempts to get friendly for a few moments weren't going to work. "You have to understand, both of you, We're doing our job and serving out a warrant, a warrant that was written up by the Sheriff for your information"
"I don't care if it was the Pope that wrote your warrant, In fact, Its more predictable to know that the Sheriff was the one who wrote the warrant, and even more of a disappointment that a Judge actually looked at it and signed off on it"
"If you feel like we've done something wrong, by all means, submit a complaints request at one of our precincts" The deputy requested.
"As if there isn't a mountain of those already sitting on the Sheriff's desk already" Dixie muttered under her breathe as she rolled her eyes, not willing to sit through the explanation of how one more complaint report would change everything.
Suddenly, they heard a loud audible crash, it sounded like glass shattering. It wasn't too far away from them, sounding like it just came from the hallway. Dixie and Dixon knew two cat deputies went and searched each level of the house, two on the second floor, two to the basement, and two to the first floor which they were at. They must have found what they were looking for and we're probably in a fight.
"10-100, What's your status, Are you in trouble?" Rook asked on his radio, expecting to hear some response, but instead there was none. Feeling uneasy about the state of his colleagues, he hoped out of the living room chair in one jump and raced over to the hallway where the crash was heard. Dixie and Dixon did the same, following behind the deputy ready to run right past him, until he sprang around with a hiss.
"Sit back down on the couch until I come back, this is police business!" He exclaimed. The two siblings came to a complete stop, both ready to defy the deputy's orders and push him aside, but before they could. One of the doors in the hallway sprang open, and out came the two deputies, running in fear as four dogs came running after them.
It was Dash, Zuma, Rubble, and Rocky. Both cats were running like they saw the devil. Rook turned around too late as his two deputies ran right past him, but the four dogs slammed into him. Rook was pushed back, sliding across the floor and rolling against the living room carpet. Dixie and Dixon jumped out of the way however, their backs against the wall. It all happened so sudden that even they felt scared, forgetting they knew these dogs wouldn't hurt them.
It was chaos, one of deputies swung his claws at the nearest dog to him, which was Rocky, which made Rocky snap out of his vicious dog character, backing up and giving the cats some confidence to fight back more efficiently. At the same time, Two cats came sprinting down the stairs, following behind them was Chase, Brax, and Skye. They also gathered In the brawl in the living room. "Stop resisting!" One deputy said, slashing at one dog who tried to get away, it was Skye.
Skye found herself backed into a tight space up against a wall, Zuma seeing such a scene snapped away from where he was, already being threatened by another cat. Zuma jumped over the cat that stood in front of him, the feline reacting fast and giving the labrador a good scratch over the belly as he jumped over. Zuma flinched at the pain, but he pushed on. Also getting slashed across his side again by another cat he ran right past, but nevertheless, he didn't relent.
Infact the pain making him run fast. "Leave hew alone!" He shouted, slamming right into one of the cat. The force of the hit causing the deputy to get flung off his paws and into the wall. The other cat, Skye was able to get the jump on him and nip him on vest, dragging him around in a circle before doing the same but into the cupboard of a dresser nearby. "Thanks" Skye honoured to Zuma. "Of couwse" He replied with a dip.
As the fight delayed onward, Marshall and Lily finally came up after hearing all the ruckus.
Rook, who was still limp in the corner, finally came back to consciousness, he brought himself up with his front paws, seeing such a horrific display in front of him as Dogs and cats fought like hell. Rook looked over seeing two cats laying on the floor, the result of Zuma and Skye's fighting.
This alone was enough in his mind to up the use of force, reaching around his vest he drew his sidearm. "Everyone stop!" All glanced over at him to see who had said it, but as they looked for a split second, they couldn't look away. The dogs were staring down the barrel of a gun. "Over here" Rook turned to look at his fellow deputies, ordering them to come to his side, separating themselves from the dogs they were fighting with just a few moments ago. Some limped over to the other side of the room. Some were visibly hurt and injury from the fight, scratches and tears to their uniforms too.
"Finch, Finch are you okay?" One deputy rushed over to his colleague that Zuma had flung into the wall, he was twitching but groggy sounds were the only thing audible coming from him. "Someone notify EMS, Those two took my radio" The cat said, pointing to Marshall and Lily with his paw.
"Radio in backup too, send everyone, tell them two officers are down" Rook instructed, looking away for split second back at one of his colleagues. Dash felt a bolt of adrenaline, he knew if backup arrived, they wouldn't stand a change of holding back as many cats. Without a second though, Dash charged forward and lunged at Rook, Rook was quick, but he wasn't quick enough, he felt the Ridgeback's teeth sink into his vest, being dragged along the floor and into the air as Rook wrestled over his own firearm.
"Wait, Don't, Stop!" Dixie raised her voice, jumping to try and separate Dash from the conflict. "Stop!" She shouted once more, this time being pulled back unfortunately for her by two deputies. Just as they did, the deafening sound of gunshot filled the room. Everyone flinched at the sound just as Dash backed off. Both of their breathing was to the extreme, Both backing away far from each other. "Get back!" Rook ordered with a stern voice.
Dash didn't look away from Rook, Back away to the other dogs as they inspected the Ridgeback vigorously. "Dash are you shot?!" Chase asked.
"I-I don't think so, I don't feel much" Dash looked around his body, so sudden pain and no blood, he didn't feel like he was shot, but then again, the adrenaline pumping through his body could be numbing it all.
"Someone tell EMS to get another Ambulance here, We've got a cat with a gunshot wound to face!" Dash looked over to the cats on the other side of the room, they were crowding around a cat who was lying on their side, Blood started to drip and flow slowly along the floor of the living room.
A bolt of Lightning flashed through Dixon as he was able to spot the cat through the other deputies were trying to render aid to the feline. Upon his recognition, he knew it wasn't one of their own, it was one of his own.
It was Dixie, she'd been shot.
