Chapter 5: Krystal Goes to Corneria

Fox awoke to find himself entangled with a sleeping Krystal, who had snuggled up even closer to him during the night. Her head rested gently on his chest, and her steady breathing sent a warm sensation through him.

Slowly, he raised his head to check the clock, doing his best not to disturb her.

What the ? 9 AM CCST (Corneria City Standard Time)? Fox's thoughts raced. How did I sleep in so late? That's unusual. Normally, I'd wake up at five or six, no matter what.

Before he could think further, his communicator buzzed softly. A familiar voice Peppy's spoke in a quiet tone.

"Hey, Fox."

"Yeah?" Fox replied just as quietly, being careful not to wake Krystal.

"Sorry to disturb you, but we're arriving at Corneria soon. We need you on the bridge for a few minutes to go over some plans."

"I'll be right up," he answered.

With that, the transmission ended.

Krystal stirred slightly, her grip tightening around him.

Fox hesitated, not wanting to wake her, then carefully tried to wiggle free.

"Mmmmmm…" Krystal murmured, then snuggled closer, completely undoing his efforts. A soft giggle escaped her lips.

"Krystal," Fox whispered, "I need to get to the bridge for a bit. I'll be back soon."

Her eyes fluttered open, locking onto his, making his heart skip a beat. Her gaze alone was enough to make him blush.

"Good morning, Fox," she said softly before leaning up and pressing a gentle kiss to his lips.

Fox's ears twitched, and his blush deepened. "G-g-good morning, Krystal," he stammered.

Krystal smirked. "Still bashful around me, Fox? We'll work on that." She winked playfully.

Fox's mind reeled. Oh my… she's so beautiful. I can't help but freeze when she looks at me like that. I wonder if she'll want to sleep beside me again tonight… I hope she does.

"Yes, Fox, I do," Krystal answered out loud, giggling.

Fox's eyes widened. Oh crap, that's right she can read my mind!

"Relax, Fox," she reassured him. ". But just so we're clear, yes, I do want to sleep beside you again."

Fox swallowed hard. "Y-yeah… s-sure."

Krystal chuckled. "Don't you have somewhere to be?"

"Oh! Right," Fox said, sitting up quickly. "I'll be back soon, and then we can grab some breakfast?"

"Sounds good," Krystal said with a warm smile. "You better go I don't want your crew annoyed with you because of me."

She finally released him, pulling the covers up under her chin.

Fox quickly put on his jacket and boots before turning back to her. "By the way, I put your Cerinian clothes in my laundry unit last night. They should be clean and dry by now. The machine's at the end of the bathroom."

Krystal blinked. "Oh wow! So you don't have to wash and scrub them manually?"

Fox chuckled. "Nope. The laundry unit does all the work."

Krystal smiled, a slight blush appearing on her cheeks. "Thank you, Fox. That was really sweet of you."

Fox gave her a small grin before heading for the door. "I'll be back soon." With that, he left the room.

some time later, Krystal sat up in bed, stretching before heading to the bathroom. She was curious about this "laundry unit" Fox had mentioned.

Upon entering, she spotted a box-like machine with a round door, a green light glowing on top.

Hmm… my Cerinian clothes must be in there. But… how do I open it?

Experimenting, she pressed a few buttons. Suddenly, the door popped open slamming into her snout.

"Ow!" she yelped, holding her nose as her eyes teared up. "That hurt!"

She sniffled slightly from the pain but soon recovered. Turning to the mirror, she noticed a small bruise forming on her snout where the door had struck her.

With a sigh, she closed her eyes and placed her hand over the injury, using her healing powers to make it disappear.

Once healed, she turned back to the machine and pulled out her armour and clothing.

Hmm… they have a light fragrance now. Did Fox use soap on them too?

She smiled softly. He really is thoughtful.

Realising it was warmer now than when she had gone to bed, she decided, I'll change back into my Cerinian attire. But I think I'll keep the clothes Fox gave me to sleep in placing them on the dresser for later,

With that, she wondered why fox had not returned yet, not wanting to be alone any more, she left Fox's room to find him.

Meanwhile, Fox entered the Great Fox's bridge.

Looks like everyone's here, he observed.

"Hey, it's our glorious leader," Falco teased with a smirk. "Where've you been, Fox? You're usually the first one up in the morning. You get lucky or something?"

"That's enough, Falco," Fox replied, annoyed.

"Everything's okay, isn't it, Fox?" Slippy asked with concern.

"Yeah, all good, Slip. I was up late helping Krystal, as she doesn't know how to use basic technology."

"I figured as much," Peppy said with a knowing nod.

"Yeah, I bet," Falco added with a wink.

Fox just rolled his eyes and took his seat.

"Fox, I presume we're taking the Great Fox to Space Dynamics to get those repairs underway?" Peppy inquired.

"Yes, that's priority number one. Things will be a lot easier now that we have funds again," Fox replied.

"I thought so," Peppy said. "I've already contacted them we're clear to dock with their orbital repair platform as soon as we arrive."

"Yippee!" Slippy cheered. "No more patch jobs, then!"

"That's right, Slip," Fox said. "I can't thank you enough for keeping us running despite having next to no money."

"Didn't you get a huge payout for kicking Andross's butt the first time, Fox?" Falco asked.

"Yeah, but most of that went to paying off the debt my dad owed for this ship," Fox explained.

"Ah, so that's how Lylat's hero went broke," Falco remarked.

"You weren't around for half of it, Falco," Peppy added.

"You know me, old man I go where the action is," Falco shot back.

"Why'd you come find us, anyway?" Peppy asked. "That gang you were with get to be too much for ya?"

"Nah, just got bored of them. Same crap every day. Then I heard you were doing something interesting with Dinosaur Planet falling apart and all, so I figured I'd drop by," Falco replied.

"I'm glad you're joining Star Fox again, Falco," Fox said. "But the Great Fox will be out of action for a few months while it's repaired. I doubt we'll see much action—unless we get called in to round up a few pirates."

"Yeah, man, it's cool," Falco said casually. "I should probably go see... while we're on Corneria, anyway." His voice trailed off.

"You mean Katt, don't you?" Slippy teased, much to Falco's annoyance.

"Clamp it, you green blob," Falco snapped.

Fox, Peppy, and Slippy all exchanged knowing grins.

"Good to see your finally taking an interest in a woman, too, Fox," Falco said, trying to shift the attention away from himself. "Just wait till she see's your fan club back on Corneria."

Fox sighed, looking down.

"Hmm... We've been keeping a low profile whenever we've been back to Corneria," he said. "But this time, it'll be harder. Space Dynamics will shuttle us down to Corneria City Spaceport while they repair the Great Fox, but the press will find out about it pretty quickly. There might be a huge crowd waiting for us at the spaceport. Maybe we could ask General Pepper to help us dodge the press..." Fox mused aloud.

"Fox," Peppy said, "we also need to contact General Pepper about Krystal."

"That's right—I'll do that now," Fox replied.

He opened a communication channel to General Pepper's office. After explaining to the secretary that they needed the general's assistance, it only took a few minutes for Pepper to get on the line.

"General Pepper here. Hello, Fox my secretary tells me you need my help?"

"Yes, General. You know Krystal the one we mentioned in our report yesterday about Dinosaur Planet?"

"Yes, the one Andross captured," the general confirmed.

"We'd like to bring her to Corneria," Fox said. "She has nowhere to go, and from what she's told us, Andross destroyed her home planet. We also believe she may actually be of Cornerian ancestry. Would it be possible to pull some strings to get her citizenship?" Fox asked, a bit nervously.

"Err... well... Cornerian ancestry, you say?" Pepper cleared his throat, then glanced at Peppy for his opinion. Peppy nodded in approval.

"I see... well, I can at least grant her immediate refugee status since she's a victim of Andross," Pepper replied.

Krystal then entered the Great Fox's bridge looking for fox, now dressed in her traditional Cerinian attire. The flowing fabric accentuated her graceful figure, and as she walked over to Fox, she gently linked her arm around his and leaned against his chair.

Fox immediately turned red.

Oh my...

Ahem.

General Pepper cleared his throat loudly, clearly taken aback by Krystal's sudden appearance in such revealing attire.

Sensing Fox's thoughts, Krystal quickly picked up on the subject of their conversation. She smiled politely at the general.

"Hello, I'm Krystal," she greeted warmly.

"Hello, Krystal," Pepper responded. "I am General Pepper, head of the Cornerian military. We were just discussing getting you refugee status."

Fox, still blushing, struggled to find his words. The general picking up on this, smirked slightly at his reaction before continuing.

"Alright, Fox, I'll contact an old colleague of mine in the government to see about securing Krystal's citizenship. In the meantime, I'll grant her special refugee status under one condition," Pepper said.

Fox straightened up, his ears twitching slightly. "Condition?"

"She is to remain in your care, Fox," Pepper clarified. "That way, port officers or military police won't haul her off to an immigration facility when you arrive."

Krystal's grip on Fox's arm tightened slightly. The thought of being separated from him so soon after finding safety was unsettling. She looked at the general gratefully.

"Thank you, General," she said.

"Fox tells me you may be of Cornerian descent," Pepper continued.

Krystal nodded. "Yes. My language which we call Cerinian, appears to be nearly identical to the Cornerian you speak. When Andross captured me on my home world, he was surprised I could understand him. His theory was that my people are descendants of Cornerians who crash landed on Cerinia long ago. But... I can't say for certain if that's true."

"Hmm. That is fascinating," Pepper mused.

"Where is Cerinia, exactly? Not in Lylat, I take it. I've never heard of the name before."

Krystal's expression darkened slightly. "I don't know," she admitted, her voice quieter. "It was very close to its sun, and my people weren't capable of space travel. So… I wouldn't even know where to begin looking for it."

Fox noticed the sorrow in her voice and gently placed his hand over hers.

"I see..." Pepper said, his tone more thoughtful now. "Well, I'm sure the Star Fox team will do everything they can to help you figure that out in time. But for now, let's focus on getting you citizenship. Please come to military HQ—I should have more answers for you by the time you get here."

"I imagine immigration will require a DNA test to verify any claim to Cornerian ancestry," Pepper continued. "If it turns out to be true, citizenship should be granted immediately."

Krystal thought to her self, I wonder what's involved in a DNA test,

"When will you arrive?"

"We're currently en route to Space Dynamics for repairs," Fox said. "We should arrive there in about an hour, so hopefully, we'll reach HQ by noon unless the press gets in the way at the spaceport."

"Hmm, yes..." Pepper chuckled. "You are rather popular with the public."

Fox groaned slightly.

"I think I'd better send someone to meet you at the spaceport," Pepper added.

"Thank you, General," Fox said with relief.

"Alright, if that's all, we'll handle the rest when you arrive. Pepper out."

As the transmission ended, Krystal turned to Fox, her eyes curious.

"What did he mean by 'you're rather popular in the public's eyes'?" she asked.

Fox hesitated, ears twitching. "Uh… well… I guess our team has saved Lylat, so we—"

"Star Fox is famous on Corneria for stopping Andross," Falco interrupted with a smirk. "So yeah, we're all considered heroes—especially this shy fox right here."

Krystal's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh my, Fox!" she said, studying him with newfound admiration. "I already knew you were a hero, but... you've done other great deeds before you saved me?"

Fox shifted uncomfortably. "I just did what I had to do," he muttered, blushing as he tried to focus on anything but her piercing gaze.

But Krystal could sense something deeper beneath his words. His emotions wavered, and painful memories of the past began surfacing—memories of loss, of grief, all tied to Andross. It was a feeling she knew all too well.

Not wanting Fox to be consumed by those thoughts, Krystal offered him a gentle smile.

"Breakfast, Fox?" she asked, hoping to change the subject.

Fox blinked, snapping back to the present. He took a slow breath to quiet his mind before nodding.

"Yeah... let's go have breakfast," he agreed, standing up.

As they turned to leave, Fox glanced back at the others. "We'll be in the kitchen if you need us."

"No worries, Fox," Peppy replied with a knowing smile.

As they walked to the kitchen, Fox glanced at Krystal with a smile.

"What would you like for breakfast? We've got all kinds of food you can try cereal, toast, pancakes, even bacon."

Krystal thought for a moment. "Well, back on Cerinia, we mostly ate seed cake dampers with honey for breakfast. So... maybe pan cakes?" She didn't quite realise how different they were.

"Sure," Fox replied, grinning as they stepped into the kitchen. "I love blueberry pancakes, so I'll make us some."

He grabbed a large pan and placed it on the induction stove to preheat while he mixed up the batter. Krystal, curious about the process, stood by his side, watching his every move.

After a moment, she tilted her head. "That's a strange machine, Fox. It gets so hot, but there's no fire."

"Yeah," Fox explained. "It uses electricity to generate heat."

"Electricity?" Krystal asked, her curiosity growing.

"Think of it like the power in your staff," Fox said, stirring the batter, "but different. Or like a lightning strike except controlled."

Krystal's eyes widened. "A lightning strike? You can control the power of lightning?"

Fox chuckled. "Well, not exactly. The electricity we use here isn't nearly as powerful as real lightning. It comes from the ship's engine generator."

"Ohhh," Krystal murmured, impressed but still not entirely understanding the technical details.

A few minutes later, Fox flipped the first batch onto a plate and added a generous scoop of ice cream before drizzling blueberry sauce over it all.

"Here you go," he said, handing her the plate with a warm smile.

Krystal's eyes sparkled. "Oh wow, Fox! I've never seen anything like this before!"

Sensing his thoughts, she suddenly smirked.

"You think this is going to blow my mind?" she teased.

Fox blinked in surprise, then chuckled. "You'll see. Give it a try."

Krystal cut a bite-sized piece of pancake with ice cream and placed it in her mouth. Her ears perked up, her tail gave a small flick, and her eyes lit up.

"Oh my... oh my, Fox! This is the best thing I've ever tasted in my life!"

Fox grinned. "I thought you'd like it."

He sat down beside her with his own plate, watching as she happily enjoyed her meal.

As he ate, he decided to try something. He focused his thoughts.

Krystal can you hear me? he projected in his mind

Krystal paused mid-bite, looking at him in surprise before nodding.

Good. Fox continued, testing their connection. I think, for now, we should keep knowledge of your telepathic powers between us. As far as I know, no one in Lylat can do what you do.

Krystal nodded again in agreement.

Are you able to read multiple minds at once?

Krystal spoke aloud in response to his thoughts. "No. Think of it like this, your mind is a window, but I have to focus on that window to see inside it."

Can you talk to me mentally without speaking? Fox asked.

Krystal hesitated, then blushed. "Well, yes... but it would require us to form a bond. Since you're not telepathic, it's the only way you'd be able to communicate with me mentally."

Fox caught the hint of red on her cheeks and raised an eyebrow. "Why are you blushing? You mentioned that bond thing last night in the shower..."

Krystal cleared her throat. "There are some things I need to tell you first, Fox, before I explain the bond."

Fox leaned in slightly, intrigued. "Alright... I'm listening."

She took a deep breath. "I was going to tell you yesterday, but we were interrupted. So, I guess I'll tell you now."

She paused, gathering her thoughts. "Fox... I knew about you before I even left Cerinia."

Fox's eyes widened. "Wait... what?"

"A Krazoa Spirit showed me a vision of you." Krystal explained. "They can communicate with me through my telepathic link on a higher level. Sometimes they send visions of the future."

Fox set his fork down, fully engaged now.

"My tribe used to meditate at our village shrine and ask the Krazoa for guidance, especially in times of great need," she continued. "Sometimes, they wouldn't answer... but sometimes they did."

She looked down for a moment, her expression softening. "My tribe was very small, mostly made up of elders. Our numbers had dwindled after many of our warriors those of childbearing age were killed in the last war with the Raptor Clan when they invaded our island continent."

Fox's ears flattened slightly as he listened.

"My parents died in that war," Krystal continued. "My grandfather raised me. I was the only woman of age in my village at the time... and there weren't many suitors for me. Just older widowers or a young boy who felt more like a little brother."

She glanced at Fox. "So, I asked the Krazoa who my partner should be... and they showed me you."

Fox's jaw nearly hit the floor. "Me?!"

Krystal nodded. "I saw you flying your ship, and I heard the words 'Star Fox.'"

Fox was stunned silent.

"There's more," Krystal said softly. "When I was trapped in the crystal on Dinosaur Planet, the Krazoa spirit with me said we have a destiny to fulfil together to 'save the stars.'"

She sighed. "I don't know exactly what that means. The Krazoa speak in riddles. But now that I've met you, now that I've sensed your mind, I know at least why they showed me you."

Krystal blushed again and looked away. "I'm drawn to you, Fox. You're the first male vulpine I've ever met who's close enough to my age to be... a suitable suitor. But it's more than that. It just feels right being around you. I feel at ease when I'm with you. Honestly, I'm surprised I haven't broken down in tears talking about my past."

Fox was speechless. He had no idea what to make of everything she had just revealed.

"Well," he thought to himself, "you're not the only one feeling drawn to this. Maybe... maybe it really is fate?"

Krystal, sensing his thoughts, smiled gently. "It may be fate... or destiny. Either way, the Krazoa never give straight answers. What actually happens is up to us."

She hesitated, then looked at him with an apologetic expression. "Fox... I'm also sorry for how I treated you when you rescued me."

Fox blinked. "What? Why are you apologising?"

"I never imagined that was how we'd meet," she admitted. "I was speechless when I saw you in person because I recognised you from the vision... and I didn't know what to say. Then, after you pulled me up, I sensed Andross, and I just lost myself to rage."

Fox shook his head. "It's okay, Krystal. I understand why you'd be furious after what he did to you."

He thought back to the moment he caught her hand, remembering how his heart had nearly stopped when he thought she was going to fall.

Krystal picked up on his thoughts and softened. "Aww, Fox."

She leaned in, brushing her muzzle against his cheek before pressing a soft kiss to his lips.

Fox felt his breath hitch, but he quickly melted into the moment, savoring the warmth between them.

Maybe fate really had brought them together.

Fox leaned back slightly, considering everything Krystal had just told him. "So, if we're destined to be together, how does this bond fit into all of it?" He gave her a curious look. "It might be handy if you could talk to me mentally."

Krystal's ears twitched, and a deep blush spread across her cheeks. "Fox… the bond on Cerinia is sacred. It's only created between those who are mated for life."

Fox raised an eyebrow. "Mated for life?"

She nodded. "It allows the highest level of mental connection. More than just telepathic speech, it lets bonded partners share skills, memories, emotions, and direct sensations like pain or joy. Our two minds would become a permanent extension of each other."

Fox's eyes widened slightly. "So… I'm guessing couples don't break up on Cerinia? Sounds like a permanent marriage."

Krystal gave a small smile. "That's right. Once the bond is made, partners don't split up. But… there have been a few cases in the past where a bonded pair did split up. When that happens, we call it 'Kursed.'"

Fox tilted his head. "Kursed?"

Krystal's expression darkened slightly. "Yes. It means you've broken your sacred bond. A Cerinian who becomes Kursed suffers deep emotional and mental pain, as if half of their soul is missing."

Fox frowned. "That sounds... awful."

Krystal sighed. "It is. But this doesn't apply if one partner dies. Instead, part of their mind will always remain within you, like an echo of their presence."

Fox took a deep breath, trying to process it all. "Wow… that's incredible. It's like a connection that goes beyond life itself."

Krystal nodded.

After a moment, Fox glanced at her again. "So… how is the bond actually made?"

Krystal hesitated, twiddling her fingers. "Well, normally, two telepaths can simply reach out to each other's minds and form the bond. it was rare but not all Cerinians where telepathic "

Fox nodded, but then he noticed Krystal's hesitation. "And if one of them isn't telepathic?"

She blushed deeper. "Then… they..."

Fox leaned in slightly, sensing there was more to it. "They what?"

Krystal swallowed, her tail curling slightly. "They have to... form the bond in a more intimate way."

Fox blinked. Then, realisation hit him. His ears shot up, and his tail gave a small flick. "Oh."

Krystal nodded, avoiding his gaze. "Yeah… oh."

A moment of silence passed between them before Fox smirked playfully. "Well, that explains why you were blushing."

Krystal huffed, crossing her arms. "You asked!"

Fox chuckled. "I did. And I'm glad I did, because now I understand why this is such a big deal for you." His tone softened. "I wouldn't want to rush into something sacred like that unless you were truly ready."

Krystal looked at him, her expression softening. "Thank you, Fox."

He grinned. "Besides… it sounds like I'd need to pass the 'Krystal approval test' first."

She rolled her eyes but smiled. "Something like that."

Krystal thought to her self, you actually pass the test already fox, but I'm glad you still want to take things slowly.

Krystal, I should let you know that on Corneria, some people may find your fur color quite unusual. So don't be surprised if you get some weird stares or thoughts about it. Blue isn't something you'd typically see, Fox said.

"That's okay, Fox. I'm expecting that," Krystal replied with a smile.

Fox returned the smile. "Well, we should go get ready. We're almost at Space Dynamics now."

Both Krystal and Fox finished their breakfast, got ready, and returned to the bridge. As they entered, Peppy said, "Good timing, Fox. We're just about to dock."

Krystal looked out the bridge window. "What is that bright floating thing out there? And I see a planet nearby it's beautiful."

"That's Space Dynamics' orbital repair platform," Peppy explained. "And the planet you see is Corneria, where we're heading next."

"Incoming transmission from Space Dynamics," ROB announced.

"Put it through, ROB," Fox replied.

A holographic image appeared, showing Fara Phoenix smiling.

"Foxie boy!" Fara said. "I didn't expect to see you here today, mate."

"Hey, Fara. Likewise," Fox replied. "Is the military getting you to test-pilot a new model?"

"Yeah mate,! And she's a bloody ripper. A new model Arwing. Reckon Slippy would love to take a peek at this one."

"You bet I would!" Slippy replied excitedly. "Is my dad with you?"

"He sure is mate, We'll all be waiting for you when you get off," Fara said, flashing Fox a suggestive smile.

Fox awkwardly gave a half-smile. "Okay… see you all soon."

Oh great, it's Fara… Fox thought. I just know she's going to throw herself at me again. Why can't she take a hint? I'm just not interested anymore.

Krystal, picking up on Fox's thoughts, looked at him curiously.

Fox quickly thought to her, Krystal, that's Fara Phoenix. We were once close, but not anymore.

Falco smirked. "This should be entertaining, eh, Fox?"

Curious, Krystal discreetly scanned the thoughts of everyone on the bridge.

Falco: It's been a while since you've seen Fara, huh, Fox? She ain't gonna give up on you. But how will she react to Krystal? She won't like that you have a new squeeze.

Peppy: Dang nabbit, why did she have to be test-piloting here today? Fox doesn't need this. I hope this doesn't turn into a powder keg with Krystal. I better keep an eye on things.

Slippy: I can't wait to see the new Arwing Dad's cooked up! But I bet my modifications to ours will still hold up.

Fox: What should I do here? Guess I just gotta handle it like always. We're just friends, and that's all it will ever be now.

As the Great Fox docked, the team disembarked, with Fox leading the way. As expected, an excited Fara was waiting for him.

"Foxie!" Fara squealed, leaping at him with arms wide open and pulling him into a tight hug which he did not return.

"Hey, Fara," Fox said flatly.

"It's been so long since you've been back to Corneria, mate!" Fara said, still holding onto him.

Krystal, following Peppy down the walkway, kept her eyes fixed on Fara. She read Fara's thoughts.

Fara: Oh, Foxie… I'm not going to let you go this time, even if you try to push me away.

Fara then attempted to kiss Fox, but he turned his head, and it landed on his cheek instead.

Krystal growled in irritation. Peppy and Falco, hearing it, immediately stopped walking. Falco stepped beside her, exchanging glances with Peppy.

"Now, Krystal, calm down," Peppy said. "It's not what you think. That's Fox's ex from years ago. She dumped him, and he wants nothing to do with her at least romantically. But ever since Fox became a hero, she hasn't left him alone and keeps trying to throw herself at him."

"That's right, Krystal," Falco added. "Just let Fox handle it. He'll reject her like he always does. No need to overreact."

Krystal looked at them both, scanning their thoughts.

Peppy: I hope Krystal understands. We don't need any fights here today.

Falco: I Knew she'd react like that. She's a tribal warrior, after all. I better help the old man defuse this before things explode. I don't know her well enough yet to guess if she'll lash out at Fara for smooching Fox.

Krystal nodded at them both before refocusing on Fox's thoughts.

Fox: Don't kiss me, Fara. We'll never be that close again.

Krystal smirked. "Don't worry, I'm just going to help Fox," she said before confidently walking past Peppy and Falco.

Both men exchanged nervous glances as they watched her approach Fox, who had just gently pushed Fara away, breaking free from her tight hug.

"Why, Fox? Why do you keep pushing me away?" Fara asked, frustration evident in her voice. "You know I'm sorry for breaking up with you years ago. I've regretted it ever since. Can't you see that?"

Krystal reached Fox's side and smoothly linked arms with him, resting her head on his shoulder while locking eyes with Fara.

Fara's shock was evident. Her gaze hardened into a glare, her eyes narrowing at Krystal.

"Fox! Who is this?!" Fara demanded.

"Hello, the name's Krystal," Krystal answered sweetly. "I'm Fox's partner." She emphasised the word 'partner,' causing Fox to immediately blush.

Krystal sensed Fara's jealousy flaring up.

Fara: Who is this skimpy-dressed, blue-furred vixen?! How dare she think she's Fox's partner? He's mine!

"I'm sorry, Fara," Fox said. "I can only be friends with you. I've moved on. Please understand."

Fox gestured for Krystal to keep walking with him, and together they moved past Fara.

Fara stood there, tears welling in her eyes. "I'm sorry I ever let you go, Fox. I was young and stupid..."

Krystal read Fara's thoughts and took no pleasure in the heartbreak she caused. But she knew it was for the best.

As Fox and Krystal walked hand in hand, Krystal sensed Fox's unease. He didn't like hurting Fara, but there was something else on his mind.

"What is it, Fox?" she asked.

Fox glanced at her, then decided to speak through his thoughts, knowing Krystal would hear.

Fox: "Fara comes from a wealthy aristocratic family on Papertoon. Her father has always wanted her to end up with me, and now that I'm famous, he'll be even more determined. I'm worried that when Fara tells him I've moved on, he might make things difficult for Star Fox in the future."

Krystal squeezed Fox's hand reassuringly as they walked down the hallway, with Falco trailing behind. Meanwhile, Peppy stayed back with Fara, placing a comforting paw on her shoulder as she sobbed.

"Fox doesn't want to hurt you, Fara," Peppy said gently. "He still considers you a good friend, but he's moved on. You need to let him go. There are plenty of good men out there who would treasure you."

"I can't let Fox go," Fara whispered, still crying.

Just then, Slippy stepped off the walkway, focused on his data pad. He finally looked up and noticed Fara in tears.

"Fara! What's wrong?" he asked, concerned.

Fara wiped her eyes and looked at Slippy's clueless expression. "I messed up, that's all," she muttered.

Peppy sighed. "She saw Fox with Krystal," he explained quietly.

"Oh..." Slippy blinked, finally putting the pieces together. "Well, don't stress, Fara. As we say on Aquas, there are plenty of fish in the sea!"

His corny joke managed to lift Fara's spirits, if only slightly.

"Slippy, you really are clueless mate," she said with a weak smile.

Slippy chuckled. The said, "Come on, let's go find my dad.

I couldn't pull him away from the new Arwings to meet you here."

Fara replied, her voice steadier now.

Slippy turned to Peppy. "Hey, I'll stay here with Dad and Fara, so don't wait up for me."

"Alright," Peppy said with a nod. "You take care of yourself, too, Fara."

"Thanks, Peppy," Fara replied softly, then followed Slippy toward the main hall.

Meanwhile, Fox and Krystal made their way to the reception area. Fox approached the Tanuki receptionist and asked where he could find Yard de Pon to discuss repairs for the Great Fox.

The receptionist smiled. "He's not here at the moment, but I'll have him contact you. We've also arranged a shuttle to take you to the Corneria City spaceport."

Peppy soon joined them, giving Fox a reassuring look. "Fara's alright, don't worry. Slippy's staying behind."

Fox nodded in relief as they began discussing what upgrades and repairs they wanted for the Great Fox.

While they talked, Krystal wandered the hall, fascinated by the spaceship components on display. Falco, on the other hand, lounged in one of the waiting chairs, looking completely bored. Krystal sensed the curiosity of several Space Dynamics staff members. They were watching her, intrigued by her blue fur.

Fox soon found her nearby and smiled. "Krystal, it's time to go."

She returned his smile and walked with him to the shuttle bay, where Peppy and Falco were already waiting. Once they were seated and the shuttle took off, Falco smirked.

"Well, buddy, one hurdle down. Now, what's waiting for us at the spaceport?"

Fox sighed, looking down. Krystal, sitting beside him, noticed and grew concerned.

"I just hope there isn't a swarm of reporters waiting for us," Fox muttered.

"I'll bail you out if needed," Falco said with a grin. "I know how much you hate the public spotlight."

Krystal tilted her head. "The press and... paparazzi? What are those?"

Fox sighed. "They're people who take pictures of us and ask questions about what we're doing. They can be... persistent. And rude."

"Pictures?" Krystal repeated, confused.

"Like the recording message we made for you before you arrived on the Great Fox," Peppy explained. "But instead of just us seeing it, they'll show it to the entire city."

Krystal frowned slightly, trying to process the concept.

"It'll all make sense in time," Fox assured her. "Just stay close to me, okay? If they swarm us, don't let them separate us."

Feeling uneasy, Krystal instinctively grabbed onto Fox's arm.

Fox chuckled softly. "It's okay, Krystal. Trust me, it's not as scary as fighting an angry horde of SharpClaw."

Krystal smiled at his joke, reassured by his confidence.

Fox gestured toward the window. "Look, we're approaching Corneria City. Check out the view."

Krystal turned to the small shuttle window and gasped. Below, she saw fields of green, vast forests, and a shimmering ocean. But what caught her attention most were the towering structures piercing the sky.

"Oh, it's beautiful! But... what are those tall objects?"

"Skyscrapers," Fox explained. "They're buildings where hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people live and work."

Krystal's eyes widened. "Thousands? How many people live in Corneria City?"

"Probably a few million," Peppy answered with a smile.

Krystal's jaw nearly dropped. "A few... million?!" She blinked in shock. "How many zeros is that?"

Fox chuckled. "Don't worry, you'll get used to it."

Peppy leaned over to Fox and whispered, "You'll need to introduce her to modern civilisation gradually. She might be overwhelmed at first."

Krystal, pretending not to hear, continued looking out the window. But she had already read Peppy's thoughts and knew exactly what he was trying to say.

I appreciate Peppy's concern, she thought to herself. He cares about me... just like Fox.

As the shuttle landed at Corneria City Spaceport, the Star Fox team stepped off into the bustling terminal. The moment they approached the security checkpoint, they could already see the massive crowd on the other side. Fans cheered wildly, and camera flashes lit up the room like a strobe show.

"Just as bad as we thought, huh, bud?" Falco teased.

Fox let out a low grunt. "Mmm..."

As they neared the checkpoint, Fox preemptively took Krystal's hand, sensing she might need reassurance.

A Cornerian military official was waiting for them. "Welcome, Star Fox team. We've been expecting you. We have orders to escort you to Military HQ. A car is waiting just outside."

The team crossed the checkpoint, only to be met with a wall of reporters held back by security and police.

"Team Star Fox, can we get an interview?" some reporters called.

"At least a statement!" others added.

Then, the moment Krystal stepped through, the entire press corps seemed to shift focus. Her striking blue fur and exotic attire immediately caught their attention.

Reporters:

"Whoa, who's that?"

"Does Star Fox have a new member?"

"Where is she from? Dressed like that, she can't be from Lylat!"

"Hello, Miss! Please introduce yourself!"

The overwhelming attention made Krystal anxious. Instinctively, she gripped Fox's hand tighter and moved closer, practically hiding behind him as they walked past the reporters.

A few cameras zoomed in.

"Did you get that? She's hiding behind Fox!"

"Looks like Fox McCloud finally has a partner!"

"This headline won't make Miss Corneria happy," one reporter muttered.

As if things couldn't get any worse, the team barely made it past the press before they were met with another wave of fans. Cheers erupted from all sides, and a particularly enthusiastic group of vixen fan girls screamed at the top of their lungs.

"We love you, Fox!"

Krystal turned to Fox with a confused look.

Fox met her eyes and, without speaking, let his thoughts reach her.

Fox: "Krystal, pay no attention to them. Just ignore it and keep walking with me. We're almost at the car."

Meanwhile, Falco being the last through the checkpoint got swarmed.

"Mr. Lombardi! Where have you been?"

Unlike Fox, Falco had no problem soaking up the spotlight. "Well, ya see," he started, puffing out his chest, "I've been takin' care of business. Can't have the galaxy fallin' apart without me, ya know?" He grinned as he lapped up the attention.

Meanwhile, Fox, Krystal, and Peppy reached the military limo waiting for them. The official escorting them opened the door and stepped aside.

"After you, sir," he said.

Fox gestured for Krystal to enter first. She climbed in, followed by Fox and then Peppy.

As they sat down, Peppy let out a relieved sigh. "Well, that went smoother than expected. Thank goodness General Pepper sent extra security."

Krystal, still slightly shaken, looked down at her hands. "I've never seen so many people before..."

"It's alright, Krystal," Fox said gently. "It's over now."

Peppy chuckled. "I suspect all of Corneria will know about Krystal by tonight. She'll be all over the news."

Fox sighed. "It couldn't be helped. They filmed everything the moment we stepped out."

"It might work in your favour," Peppy said. "Miss Corneria might finally leave you alone."

Krystal perked up at the unfamiliar name. "Miss... Corneria?" she asked, her tone concerned.

Fox groaned. "Taylor Hart. She's a famous model vixen here on Corneria. Ever since we became famous, she's had her eyes set on me."

"Think of another Fara," Peppy added, "but less reasonable... and a lot more persistent."

Krystal frowned, looking down in thought.

Noticing her worry, Fox reached over and placed his paw on hers. She looked up, and their eyes met.

Without saying a word, Fox let his thoughts speak to her.

Fox: "Krystal, please don't worry. I'm only interested in you. I know in my heart that you're genuine. These other women… they only care about fame or boosting their own status."

Krystal smiled softly, her heart warming at his words. Fox, in turn, felt his face heat up as he realised she had read his thoughts.

Before either could say anything, Peppy suddenly leaned forward, peering out the door.

"Hey… who's that walking toward us?"

Fox snapped out of his gaze and turned to look. His ears flattened.

"Oh no… that's Taylor."

Outside, a stunning orange-furred vixen with long, flowing hair strode toward the limo, emerald-green eyes locked onto them with fierce determination.

"Quick, shut the door!" Fox blurted. "Driver, take us to Military HQ now!"

"But sir," the driver hesitated, "Mr Lombardi isn't here yet"

"Forget about him! Go!"

"Yes, sir!"

Just as the limo began to pull away, Krystal glanced out the window. She saw Taylor's, realisation dawning in her eyes as the vehicle sped off.

Taylor: "You're not getting away from me this time, Fox! I'll make you mine. no matter what!"

"Wait!" Taylor shouted, turning to the military official standing beside her. "Don't let them leave yet I'm coming too!"

But it was too late. The limo disappeared into the busy city streets, leaving Taylor fuming on the curb.

Back at the Spaceport

Taylor crossed her arms in irritation, glaring at the military official. "I told you to make them wait!"

The official remained unfazed. "Excuse me, Miss Hart, but we were only ordered to escort Star Fox members to Military HQ."

Taylor scoffed. "Do you even know who I am?"

The official sighed. "Of course. You're Taylor Hart, Miss Corneria." His voice remained professional but carried a hint of impatience. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have other duties to attend to."

Without another word, he turned and walked back toward the spaceport to retrieve Falco, who was still basking in the attention of the press.

Taylor stood there, watching the limo disappear into the distance, her irritation only growing.

Meanwhile, Inside the Limo

Peppy shook his head. "How the heck did she get past security?"

Fox let out a weary sigh. "They probably let her through because she's a celebrity."

Krystal sat quietly beside him, feeling uneasy about everything that had just happened. She wasn't sure what to make of Fox's fame or all the women who seemed to want him.

"Krystal… Krystal?" Fox's voice pulled her from her thoughts.

She blinked and looked at him. "Er… Yes, Fox?"

"You okay?"

Krystal hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Yes, sorry. I was just… thinking."

Fox frowned. "I'm sorry you had to see all of that."

"It's okay, Fox," Krystal reassured him. "It's not your fault. I guess I'm just feeling a little overwhelmed."

Fox offered her a small smile. "Well, things will be a lot calmer now."

Krystal returned the smile, feeling a bit more at ease.

Arrival at Military HQ

The limo pulled into a high-security underground entrance beneath one of Corneria City's towering skyscrapers. Krystal's ears perked up as she looked out the window in amazement.

"Wait… we're under the building?" she asked curiously.

Fox nodded. "Yeah, but don't worry. You'll get a great view once we're at the top."

"We're going to the top?" she asked, now even more intrigued.

Fox chuckled and opened the door. "That's right. Come on."

He stepped out first, then helped Krystal out of the limo. Once the entire team was out, they walked toward a sleek elevator built into the wall.

Fox pulled out a security card and held it up to a scanner. With a soft chime, the elevator doors slid open.

Fox gestured for Krystal to enter first, followed by Peppy. He stepped in last and pressed the button for the 100th floor.

The doors shut, and within seconds, the elevator surged upward at high speed.

Krystal yelped in surprise and instinctively grabbed Fox's arm. "Fox! What's happening?!"

Fox immediately steadied her, holding onto her shoulders to keep her balanced. His voice was calm and reassuring. "It's okay, Krystal. We're just climbing fast. Sorry, I should've warned you."

She took a deep breath, still gripping his arm, before finally relaxing as the ride smoothed out.

Soon, the elevator came to a stop, and the doors slid open.

Krystal let out a breath. "I'm glad that's over."

Fox chuckled. "Wait till you see the view."

Fox took Krystal's hand and led her into a massive lounge area with a secretary desk, the room had floor-to-ceiling windows, that displayed an incredible view of the city.

Krystal stepped toward the glass, her eyes widening in awe. "Fox… this is amazing! We're so high up!"

Fox smirked. "Told ya."

Meanwhile, Peppy approached the secretary and informed her of their appointment with General Pepper. Moments later, he called over to Fox. "Alright, Fox, we can go in now."

Fox and Krystal turned away from the breathtaking skyline and walked toward the large office doors. As they approached, two security guards stationed at the entrance eyed Krystal curiously.

Krystal didn't need to read their minds to know they were surprised by her blue fur, but she did anyway picking up on their curiosity about whether she was a new member of Star Fox.

Fox ignored the stares and led the team inside.

General Pepper's Office

A familiar voice greeted them as they entered.

"Ah, Team Star Fox! Welcome back!" General Pepper said cheerfully from behind his desk.

Fox, Krystal, and Peppy walked up to the seats in front of him. "Good to see you, General," Fox said.

Pepper's gaze turned to Krystal, and he smiled warmly. "And you must be Krystal. Welcome to Corneria!"

Krystal shifted slightly, feeling a bit shy under the attention. "Um, thank you. It's… incredible here. I don't really know what to make of it yet there are just so many people."

Pepper let out a hearty chuckle. "I imagine it must be quite a change for you! But don't worry, I'm sure you'll get used to it in time."

Then his expression grew more serious as he folded his hands on his desk. "Now, on to business."

Fox straightened in his seat.

"I've been in touch with my old colleagues in the government," Pepper explained, "and they're willing to fast-track an application to grant Krystal instant citizenship, provided we confirm Cornerian ancestry with a DNA test."

Krystal's ears perked up in surprise. "A… DNA test?"

Pepper nodded. "It's just a formality. We'll conduct it here, and I'll personally accompany you to Immigration tomorrow to finalise everything."

Fox exhaled in relief. "Thank you, sir. That's a huge help."

Pepper nodded. "It's the least we can do. And Fox, to let you know, while you're here, I do have a minor mission for you once the Great Fox is back in action."

Fox smirked. "I'm listening."

"We have reports of possible pirate activity, and a outpost in the asteroid belt, with the odd cargo ship being robbed, I'd like your team to investigate." as our scouts have found nothing, but the robberies keep happening, from time to time

Fox grinned. "Sounds good, sir, We'll take care of it."

Pepper smiled. "I expected no less. Now, let's head to the medical centre our doctor should be ready for Krystal's test."

At the Medical Centre

As they stepped out of the elevator, Krystal still clung to Fox's arm, though she tried to calm herself. The unfamiliar technology, the crowds, and now a test to prove who she was it was all overwhelming.

The group walked down a quiet hallway, led by General Pepper, until they reached a well-lit medical room where a tall, lupine doctor greeted them.

"Hello," the doctor said with a polite nod. "I'm Doctor Patel. Welcome."

"Doctor," Pepper acknowledged. "We're here for the DNA test to verify Miss Krystal's Cornerian ancestry."

"Ah, yes. Everything is set up and ready to go," Doctor Patel replied, glancing at Krystal with mild curiosity. "And I must say, you have a rather unusual fur colour."

Krystal tensed, shifting closer to Fox. She wasn't sure how to respond back home, no one questioned the way she looked.

"Umm... hi," she said quietly, eyes flicking to Fox for reassurance.

"Now, if you could please take a seat here on the bed," Dr Patel continued, gesturing toward the examination table. "I'll begin with a simple saliva swab. Nothing painful, I promise."

Krystal hesitated. She didn't fully understand what was happening. DNA? Ancestry? A test? What if it said she wasn't Cornerian? What if it changed things? Would they send her away? Would she belong anywhere?

Sensing her unease, Fox gently placed his paw on hers. "It's okay, Krystal," he said softly. "It won't hurt, and I'll be right here the whole time."

She looked at him, searching his eyes, and she could hear his thoughts his genuine concern, his unwavering support.

You're safe. No matter what, I've got you. no matter the result.

With a deep breath, she nodded and slowly sat down on the table.

"Alright, just open wide," Dr Patel instructed as he prepared the swab.

Krystal flinched slightly when the doctor reached toward her, but Fox gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. She finally parted her lips, allowing the swab to brush against the inside of her cheek.

"All done," the doctor said, placing the sample into a sleek, high-tech scanner. "This will only take a few minutes."

As the machine processed the results, Dr Patel turned back to her. "While we wait, I'll need to conduct a basic physical examination for the report."

Krystal barely heard him her mind was racing. What if the machine said she wasn't Cornerian? What if Andross had been wrong? What if

The machine beeped.

Dr Patel studied the screen for a moment before speaking. "Yes… she's definitely Cornerian," he said with a note of surprise. "Her DNA is a 99.8% match with a typical Cornerian vulpine, so there is no need to conduct any more tests."

General Pepper let out a low whistle. "Incredible." He then chuckled, shaking his head. "Well, I suppose Andross always was the prognosticator."

Hearing that name made Krystal's fur bristle.

"Andross?" Dr Patel asked, raising an eyebrow.

"To put it simply," Pepper explained, "Krystal here was captured by Andross. He deduced she had Cornerian ancestry based on her language and some other factors. Looks like he was right."

Krystal bit her lip, still processing everything.

"Please keep this information to yourself, Doctor," Pepper added.

"Of course, sir," Dr Patel assured him.

Krystal exhaled slowly, shoulders slumping.

Fox noticed and leaned in. "See? It's alright," he murmured. "No more tests, and now we know for sure."

She met his gaze, reading his thoughts again You're here now, and that's all that matters.

A small smile crept onto her lips. "Thank you, Fox."

He grinned back. "Always."

The in-depth ancestry report will take a while longer, but I'll continue working on it this afternoon and have it completed for you," Dr Patel said.

"Very good. Please forward your report to my office," Pepper replied before turning to the group. "Now, how about some lunch?"

"Thank you, sir," Fox said, his stomach already agreeing with the idea.

"Thank you, Doctor," Pepper added with a nod before gesturing for the team to follow him.

As they left, Krystal instinctively grabbed Fox's arm again before stepping into the elevator.

Fox chuckled. "Don't worry, Krystal. This one's a short ride just a few floors down."

Krystal barely noticed the movement as the doors closed and opened seconds later. The moment they stepped out, she was hit with a wonderful aroma. The cafeteria was bustling with soldiers and officers, the scent of fresh-cooked food filling the air.

Fox led Krystal to the line, grabbing her a tray, plate, and utensils. As they moved through, he loaded her plate with steak, gravy, and vegetables. "Here, Krystal. Trust me, you're gonna love this."

Krystal looked at the food curiously but accepted it without question.

After settling at a table, Krystal sensed subtle curiosity from others in the room, with many wondering about her blue fur, and why General Pepper was here with Star Fox. Yet, she also noticed admiration toward Pepper, who, instead of eating in some private office, chose to dine with his subordinates.

Meanwhile, Peppy and Pepper chatted like old war buddies, their friendship was strong.

Fox waited for Krystal to take the first bite. The moment she did, her eyes widened. "Oh Fox! This is amazing! I've never had anything like this before!"

Peppy and Pepper paused, smiling at her reaction before returning to their conversation.

After they finished eating, Pepper stood. "I need to get back to work, but come by tomorrow afternoon, and we'll head to immigration."

The team agreed before parting ways.

Chapter 6, The department store (this was meant to be part of chapter 5 but its just too big I had to break it up this chapter will be very hot with romance and drama)
