Chapter Four - First Mission Part One

[Zero Timeline/ No when - No where]

"Hey little boys and girls! Hakos Baelz here! Before we start reading this chapter, I need to clarify something about this story. Yeah, yeah, I know it's boring, but you'll be super confused if you don't listen to me right now, okay. So in this universe, some generations joined later or sooner than they did in your universe. So, for your convenience, I have created this very informational timeline to show you the new order of the generations." "You're welcome."

*Beep Beep *

My alarm clock is beeping like crazy, I had set it earlier than I usually would, not wanting to be tardy on my first mission. I slowly sit up and check the time displayed on its LED screen. "Six AM... Don't I have to clock in at Ten?" I contemplate going back to sleep but I know that if I do, I'll probably wake up tomorrow.

"Ugh…" I sloowlyyy get out of my bed, stretching once I fully stand up. Opening the door to my room, something flies in and jumps on my bed. "Bubba! You scared me!" I reach my hand out to pet him, but he licks my fingers before I get the chance. I have time to waste, so I play with my loyal pooch for a couple minutes, showering him with pets and belly rubs. Now I feel awake.

I stand up and start my regular old morning routine. Wash my face, eat breakfast, brush my teeth, and take a shower. By the time I'm done, it's already... 6:50 AM. Why did I have to wake up so early..? I walk on over to the couch. Maybe I'll watch some YouTube to kill time. Opening the app, I see one of my senior's livestreams. Sakamata Chloe, she's part of the generation right before mine. I start the video out of curiosity. How much of a difference does a couple months of experience make in this industry.

Two hours or so have passed, it was around 8:40 when I finished watching Chloe's livestream. Even though it's only been a few months, she's already a hundred times more engaging and charismatic than I was during my debut stream and certainly less nervous. It makes me hopeful. Maybe I'll be like her in a few months.

It's only an hour until I need to be in the office so I finish up my routine. I head to my room's closet and put on my clothes, making sure not to forget the hat and cloak. Next, I open my bathrooms medicine drawer and grab two of my concoctions, one for healing and one for brain stimulation and attach them to the strap on my left leg. Lastly, I walk over to the bedside drawer and retrieve the weapon inside. I stuff the revolver and some ammunition into a hidden pocket in my sling bag, not before making sure that the gun was on safety of course.

After making sure I have my keys, phone, and deadly weapon, I say goodbye to Bubba and start my commute to work. It's a five minute walk from my apartment to the bus stop, and it takes another twenty minutes for the bus to arrive at the bus stop next to the office. Accounting for traffic and bus wait times, it takes around thirty minutes to go from my home to the office. So when I arrive it's already around 9:30.

[Timeline 1 / September 13, 2020 - Hololive's North American Office]

Walking into the office I already see some people gathered at the lobby sitting on couches arranged in a square like shape. A-Chan is casually chatting with Cali, Kiara, and,

[ Nakiri Ayame - Oni heiress ]

A-Chan tilts her head towards me as she notices me entering the room. "Oh, welcome Amelia. Take a seat, we're gonna start soon." I take a seat across from where Kiara and Cali are seated and set my bag next to me. "Hey Amelia, you look tired. Did you just wake up" Kiara asks me with a slight smile. "No, it's the opposite. I woke up at six AM." As I say that, Kiara lets out a little giggle.

A-Chan turns to me and asks, "Amelia, have you met Ayame before?" "No, I haven't." I say as I turn to Ayame. "Oh, uh, hello Amelia." Ayame says as she waves her hands shyly at me. "Hello, Ayame." I say giving a slight wave back.

Awkward silence fills the room as we have nothing to say. Thankfully, it doesn't last for long as Gura and Ina arrive together.

"Gura, Ina, welcome. Take a seat, almost everyone here." A-Chan greets the two as they take a seat. Gura and Ina sit on the same couch as me, and I greet them with a snarky remark. "Gura's early? Now that's something I didn't expect." "Hey! That was just one time, ok!" Gura blushes, after I reminded everyone of when she showed up thirty minutes late to our debut concert.

After settling in and greeting the others, Gura is already off making a new friend.

"Your last name is really cool Ayame, it can be read as 'A hundred demons' right?" Gura asks, sitting in the spot closest to where Ayame is sitting. "Oh, yeah, it's a little on the nose isn't it" Ayame jokes, pointing to the horns on her head. "What are you Ayame, if you don't mind me asking" I ask, giving her my trusty interview question. "I'm an oni. Ah! But don't think I'm some kind of demon, alright. I'm nice I promise." Ayame raises her hands and blushes in embarrassment, and everyone giggles a little at her awkwardness.

After a few minutes of chatting and getting to know we each other, the rest of Ayame's generation arrive. First to burst through the door is a tomboyish girl wearing a baseball cap waving wildly. "Oh! Everyone's here! Hey everybody!"

[ Oozora Subaru - Hololive's sports manager of the year (By virtue of being the only one) ]

Trailing behind the tomboyish one, is a smaller girl in a maid outfit, walking meekly to our seating area. "H-hello everyone."

[ Minato Aqua - Modest maid ]

A-Chan recycles the greeting she used on me, Gura, and Ina. "Aqua, Subaru, welcome, go take a seat somewhere, we're about to start." The aforementioned pair take a seat while I wonder if A-Chan used that same greeting on Cali and Kiara.

As Subaru and Aqua take their seats, A-Chan stands up concurrently. "Once again, good morning and welcome everyone. Now that we're all here, we can discuss the details of this mission." While A-Chan is gathering some papers, Gura leans in close to me and whispers in my ear. "I wonder what our mission's gonna be? We brought all of our weapons so I wonder if we're gonna fight like a cyclops or a siren or something. Ooh! Maybe we'll even get to fight a grand leviathan!" Gura sounds pretty excited while I couldn't be more nervous, but maybe that comes down to a difference in cultures? I lean into Gura's ear and ask her, "Have you killed someone's before?" It's quite an extreme question, but 'have you fought someone before?' Is too broad of a question. After a couple seconds of shock, Gura responds. "I've killed monsters before, but nothing with intelligence" Gura whispers to me. An expected answer, I didn't take her to be the murdering type after all.

Before I can give Gura some kind of response, A-Chan begins to speak. "EN generation 2, since this is your first mission, I would like to give you some advice. Firstly, this mission may involve violence so, if you're ever in a situation that threatens your life, please prioritise your own life over the mission and retreat as soon as possible. Hololive was made to protect you, so we want you to get hurt as little as possible." Well that one was a given, I would've ran either way, even if they didn't encourage me to do so. "Secondly, please listen to your instructor and team leader at all times. There is nothing more powerful in battle than teamwork, and a coherent plan helps you achieve that."

Ina suddenly raises her hand. "Who's our team leader?" Ina's sudden question leaves A-Chan surprised. "I... don't know. We haven't decided on one yet." A-Chan slowly looks across the room. "How about Amelia? She seems like a leader type to me." Kiara suddenly says, causing A-Chan to look in my direction. "Hey, hey, no way. I'm not gonna be the leader!" I shout defiantly. This is my first mission. Wait, there are veterans here right? "What about someone from Ayame's group. They're more experienced than us, they would be better leaders than me." A-Chan squints her face a little as I say that. "No, these members are more fighters than strategists." Subaru chimes in saying, "Yeah, I'm a manager, not a general." Things are looking worse for me as A-Chan starts to look at me even harder. Before she can make a statement, I give another suggestion. "How about Cali? She's mature and old...er she would be a great leader!" Cali interjects, "No way! You're smarter Amelia, you would be a better strategist. And plus, a death god isn't the best candidate to lead a diplomatic mission." A-Chan scratches her chin and furrows her brows, thinking hard. "Hmmm..."

—-( shortly after )—-

"Congratulations Amelia! You're the team leader!" Gura applauds me, not noticing the dread in my eyes. I look at everyone and say sarcastically, "It's not my fault if you all die, OK?" Ina replies with a snarky remark to my half joke. "That's not very assuring, leader. Imoh so scarednow." I stand up, ready to sock Ina in the face.

"Hey now, everyone listen up. Especially you Amelia." A-Chan's command settling us down and saving Ina from my righteous first. "This is a diplomatic mission. That's why I chose an intelligent leader." A-Chan says as she gives me a look, and I just respond with a sigh. "The island of Onigashima is currently being terrorised by a group of tengu. So the ruler of Onigashima, Ayame's father, Nakiri Ajisai, wants you to negotiate with the tengu's leader and establish peace between the tengu and Onigashima." Ayame's father, huh? I guess that's why she and some friends came along on our mission. "Keep in mind however, that the negotiations may fall short, and there will be enemies on the way. That's why you have your weapons with you, to protect you if there ever is conflict."

Right now I'm feeling grateful for the firearm lessons Mr. Sherlock gave me during detective training. It looks like I'll have to use them on this mission. "You have all your weapons, right?" A-Chan asks, everyone confirming and showing their weapons. A-Chan giving an approving smile after seeing Gura with her trident. "Then we're heading to Onigashima right now!" A-Chan says excitedly, dragging us upstairs all the way to the offices roof.

"Whew! Why does our office have so many stairs!?" Gura shouts. She, Ina, and Aqua trailing behind our group. "C'mon guys! If you're like this climbing some stairs, how will you act during our mission." Subaru shouts, jogging in place. "Well someone's excited." Cali remarks, looking over at Subaru. A-Chan calls us over as we turn our heads to see a giant jet sitting on a helicopter pad. "What, we had something like this here the whole time?" Ina asks, a slightly impressed look on her face.

"Not really, we're just borrowing this from the Indonesians." A-Chan points to a giant signature on the jet-black-jet. Yep, I knew it. 'K.K', Kaela Kovalskia. "She's got quite an ego, spray painting her signature on everything like that." Cali says, gazing at the letters, perplexed. "I Hope Kobo's not getting any ideas." Kiara says quietly, so much that I barely heard that one.

"We'll be using the Kaeyorivation69 over here to get to Onigashima." A-Chan gets into the cockpit while everyone either cringes or snickers at the jets name. Everyone gets into the jet and sits down. The jets seats are arranged in two rows of five, so my generation sits at the back while Ayame's sits in front. Gura and Kiara sitting at the window seats, me and Cali sitting next to one of the two while Ina sits in the middle.

—( Jet facts on the Kaeyorivation69 )—

"How about I give you some trivia on this jet to pass the time?" Everyone agrees and A-Chan continues. "This jet was created by Indonesia's Kaela Kovalskia and Japan's Hakui Koyori, hence the name. Kaela insisted on adding the number 69, as she does with all of her vehicles, and Koyori was powerless to reject."

Indonesia's god blacksmith sounds kinda immature right now.

"The combination of Koyori's scientific knowledge and Kaela's engineering allowed this plane to be the fastest vehicle in the world, being able to travel from Indonesia to North America in ten minutes, while simultaneously negating all harmful side effects."

Really? Ten minutes? The G-force must be crazy. If the effects weren't negated, we would've turned into Hololive mashed potatoes by now.

"Oh! It looks like we're approaching Onigashima now everyone, we'll be landing shortly."

We're arriving soon, guess this is the end of,

*zoooommmm*

*CRASH*

*SPLASH*

We had just nose dived into the shore of Onigashima, but the jet's technology made the force of the impact minimal. "All right everyone, let's get going!" A-Chan eagerly jumps out of the cockpit onto the sandy beach below. "What... just happened. Are we allowed to just crash our jet into the beach like that?" I look dumbfoundedly at Ayame. "I... I have no idea." She looks at me with the same dumbstruck look that I had.

We all jump out of the jet and follow A-Chan down a stone paved path leading into a small forest, when we suddenly hear a shriek from behind us. "Help! Something took my weapon!" Aqua stood behind us, empty handed and distressed. "It must be one of those tengus!" Cali says looking around carefully. "Found it! It's hiding in that tree!" Ayame points to a shadowy figure hiding in the tall trees holding a broomstick. "Amelia! Shoot it!" Gura suddenly shouts, jumping out of fear(?) "Don't worry, I got this!" Subaru reaches into her pocket and grabs a baseball with her left hand, while the right is winding up a bat, ready to swing. She throws the ball into the air and swings her bat, hitting the ball with enough force to send it flying into the trees, shaking the leaves and folding the branches.

*rustle*

*Crackkk*

*thud*

The ball hit its target, the sound of bones cracking filled the area, echoing of the trees. The shadowy figure dropping the broomstick and fleeing the scene. "Subaru, you did it. You got my broomstick, thank you so much!" Aqua quickly retrieves her weapon and bows profusely to her baseball hero. "Aw, don't worry about it Aqua, I was just helping out." Subaru blushes and scratches the back of her head, she's clearly weak to praise.

"But that hit sounded kinda rough, I think you broke their arm." Kiara said, sounding concerned. "They're the ones terrorising my home, they deserve it." Ayame says coldly. "Yeah, but this is a diplomatic mission, remember? I hope they don't take this as an act of aggression." I tell Ayame, suddenly anxious about the future of this mission. I would like to avoid fighting as much as possible, so I don't want this encounter to turn into something greater.

A-Chan resumes walking, heading further into the forest. "We can worry about that later, we're running late and is waiting for us. And you know how oni are when things don't go their way." I look at Ayame inquisitively. "Oh, Oni are known to have short tempers, but my father isn't like that... aha." Ayame says that last part quietly.

We walk through the forest, following the stone path until we reach a small clearing. There are small houses made of stone and straw with little kitchens and animal pens on the outside. In the middle of the clearing there is a large fireplace outlined with bones, a giant pot hanging over the fire on a large branch. But the most eye-catching thing here is the giant palace directly opposite of the beache's stone path.

As we arrive, a horde of people crowd around us, looking at Ayame and talking amongst themselves. "Ojou! You returned home!" An older woman rushed past the crowd, smiling warmly and spreading her arms. "Shobu, I missed you!" Ayame and the woman engage in a tight embrace. Seeing this, I tap on Aqua's shoulder, "Her mother?" I ask. "Huh? Um... no, her servant..." She answers meekly. A servant huh, Ayame's really just like a princess. Just then, a loud, booming voice burst from over the crowd. "Ayame! You have some nerve, coming home after all these years!"

[ Nakiri Ajisai - Ruler of Onigashima ]

Nakiri Ajisai makes his way towards us, the his giant body shaking the ground with every step, his presence so strong that it feels suffocating. "What do you want? You run out of money or something?" Mr. Nakiri asks with a stern expression. "No way! I just came to get rid of the tengu!" Ayame shouts at her father. "Huh!? If I wanted your help, I would've asked you to do the job, but why do you think I requested these other guys?" Mr. Nakiri points towards my generation. "Go home already, your just gonna be a nuisance." He says sarcastically, waving his hand up and down. Ayame hisses, "I'll have you know that I'm the strongest person here!" Mr. Nakiri scoffs, "Them how about you try lifting that tall lady's scythe." Ayame looks at Cali, a fire burning in her eyes. "Alright, alright, give it a go."

Cali hands Ayame the weapon, making sure the tip is facing away from her. Ayame holds it with one hand, her arm quickly falling as the handle falls to the floor. "Guh!" She grunts as she tries to lift it. Seeing that one hand is not enough, she holds on with her other hand and tries again. This time, she gets it to hover about three inches from the ground. "Aeaeaguh. This is almost as heavy as Suisei's axe!" She says as her legs tremble. "Haha! I saw that video!" laughs. "Suisei~ Suiei~ Help me~" Mr. Nakiri says mockingly in his daughter's own voice. At this point, I don't know if he's really mean, or just really close to his daughter. "Hungyah!" Ayame struggles harder as her father's laughs get stronger. "Ayame, that's enough." Cali says, reaching out to take the scythe back. "No way, huff, I'm not giving up." Ayame steadies her hips, getting ready for one last push. "No, no, that's enough, it's just getting sad." Mr. Nakiri stops his laughing fit and grabs the scythe from his daughters hands. "Huah, now that the entertainment is over, who wants to have some lunch?"

We all gather at a large table near the fireplace. Each of us sitting with our regular pairings, while Ayame sits next to her father at the head of the table. As we sit, servants begin to bring an assortment of food to the table and stands up and raises his chalice. "Alright! Let the feast begin!"

Author's notes:

Hey, it's Yur3i. This time I want to talk about Ayame's father, Mr. Nakiri Ajisai.

His first name, Ajisai, is a type of flower. In flower language, Ajisai could mean "fickle" or "family" which is pretty fitting for him.

Speaking of his personality, originally, the mean personality was supposed to be a little joke he made before reverting back to his nice personality. But I realised that the mean Ajisai was actually pretty funny so I made it his real personality instead.

That's all for now, so I'll see you in chapter five.

P.S. Hope you like the jet facts.
