Notes: This is chapter two. Thank you to those of you who reviewed, it gave me the motivation to continue, and thank you to those who favorited and followed the story. The first couple chapters are slow, but it sets the pace and the plot so it's necessary. On one more note I apologize if anyone, especially Kaiba is out of character, I'll try to keep that to a minimum, but that'll be hard to do at times so bear with me please. If anyone has advice on how to avoid doing that however please let me know. I also apologize for the ridiculously long wait. unfortunately life happens and as much as I try I can never get as much free time to write as I'd like to. Also to note, italics mean a character's thoughts. Just wanted to clarify that detail.
Chapter Two:
Serenity was conflicted…actually no, she was mortified at the fact that Mokuba had walked in on an innocent situation that could be mistaken for something else without context. But it was the goofy grin her best friend was currently sporting that the brunette wanted to wipe off his face. The silence lasted several minutes, as her heart rate slowed, she glanced over to Kiaba's face for traces of any emotion or a reaction.
Nothing, just as stoic as always.
Once her heart rate returned to normal and realized that neither of them were going to answer the younger Kaiba's question, she whispered thank you and leaned back against the counter balancing herself before sliding off giving Mokuba a glare as she did. He raised an eyebrow at his friend and did his best to hide the smile that he wanted to give his friend but managed to keep it together but before he could say anything else the older Kaiba spoke.
"You said you wanted to speak to me?"
There it was; straight to the point. I'd expect nothing else. Mokuba mused.
The younger male nodded. "I do." he started to say before giving serenity a look. Taking the hint, the hazel eyed girl grabbed a bottle of water and excused herself. "I'll see you later Mokuba." she paused for a second before adding, "Thank you for your help, Kaiba." and walked in the direction of her bedroom hoping that Mokuba wouldn't ask any more questions about the situation later and that she'd never have to look Kaiba In the face again…or at least the foreseeable future. They watched as Serenity made a beeline for her room, when thry heard the sound of her door close, the older Kaiba turned to his brother.
"Mokuba…"
"Listen Seto, I love you, so that's why I decided to listen to you and take a minor in business and I know you mean well but it's not for me. I just- I just don't have the brain for it. Honestly, I think it'd be beneficial to drop and pursue my major full time." he explained. He could tell his brother wasn't too pleased but he'd come around…eventually. "And before you bring it up, I can assure you that Serenity had nothing to do with it, we were talking and the topic came up and she gave me advice. Which in turn, thought about and realized she had a point."
"I see, you know I don't really agree with what your doing," his eyes meet with his, as much as he wanted to tell him he was making a mistake and to not throw away his future, he needed to remember that Mokuba was his own person, who needed to live his own life and make his mistakes and learn his own way. He could no longer shield him or make him follow the life path he'd chosen for himself.
"If you're sure then, I'll back you up."
Mokuba let out a breath he hadn't known he was holding and smiled.
"Why do you look so surprised?"
"Huh?"
"You seemed nervous the entire time we were talking."
"To be honest I was pretty scared about telling you I wanted to drop my business courses."
Seto raised his eyebrow, "I don't know why you'd be scared."
Mokuba shot him a look of disbelief. He went to open his mouth to reply but then closed it, clearly surprised by the outcome of the conversation.
"I suppose I can see your point, but you know you can always talk to me regardless. I'm not going to throw you out the window or anything or write you out of the will." Mokuba almost laughed, sometimes he forgot that his brother actually had somewhat of a sense of humor.
"Who says you wouldn't when I turned my back?" Mokuba asked with a cheeky grin.
The older Kaiba let out a chuckle, "Considering you're the only person I care about, that's highly unlikely." He glanced at the clock and took note of the time, "it's getting late, is there anything else you wanted to tell me?"
"Hmm, not really that was really all that needed to be discussed."
Nodding, the older man stood up from his seat on the couch and picked up his coat.
"Don't hesitate to call if you need anything." He said as he finished buttoning his trench coat.
With a smile Mokuba nodded. "I won't."
Serenity typed away at her desk, trying to get as much studying done, mostly by writing outlines of all the important notes in her class. Letting out a sigh she rubbed her eyes as they were tired from the constant strain from the computer. Turning to her left to look at the alarm clock she noticed what time it was.
'5:43, I should either go out for dinner or make dinner…' Stretching her arms over her head, 'and I really am not in the mood to cook…' standing up from her spot 'outside I go.'
Walking over to her closet she grabbed a cardigan, it was warm as the weather was changing however the evenings were still a little chilly and the restaurant had the air conditioner on so figuring it was better to be safer than sorry she put it on, pulled her hair in a messy bun and grabbed her wallet and walked out of her bedroom. The first thing she noticed was the silence, the lights were off, only the light that could be seen was the night light in the entryway. Which probably meant that the two had gone out to eat either together or separately. Shrugging she grabbed her keys and her wallet and made her way out the apartment.
Stepping out of the elevator she waved to the doorman as she exited the building. She stepped to the side as she contemplated where to go.
What to get, soup and salad? Or pizza…decisions decisions…
She was so deep in thought she hadn't realized a figure stopped in front of her. It wasn't until the person spoke that she noticed someone there, she jumped a bit in surprise and looked up. Hazel eyes met cool blue ones.
"I need to talk to you." He finally said, "Do you have time?"
Blinking, she tried to process what she heard. What would he need to talk to me about? She mused but she guessed it must have been important for him to want to talk. They weren't hostile to each other unlike her brother, Joey was, they couldn't be in the same vicinity for longer than a few minutes before they were down each other's throats, Serenity didn't have the time or energy to be that pressed, besides she was best friends with Mokuba, so Seto Kaiba came with that package. However they weren't close, just a few formal greetings here and there. Shrugging, she looked at him, "Sure I was just going to pick up dinner, I have time."
"Very well. Would you mind coming with me to the French cafe downtown?"
"Not at all."
Well that settles dinner, soup and salad it is.
They walked a little way down the block to where his limo was parked, Seto opened the door and Serenity got inside muttering a thanks as she slid on the other side so he could sit down. Closing the door and buckling in the driver asked.
"Where to, Mr. Kaiba?"
"Café de Paris."
"Yes sir."
Notes: Once again I apologize for the long wait, this has been sitting in my drafts for so long and I've been debating on whether or not to upload it. I did and while I'm still not happy with it, I can always edit it at a later time. I haven't given up, I just took a long hiatus but I'm still working on all my works in progress so I don't know when the next update will be but it won't take a year this time. I hope whoever reads this enjoys it. Take care!
