The Unexpected Rescue

Lea Thompson was walking around Gotham City to meet with Bruce Wayne at his Mansion. While the Blue Lantern in secret was already aware of the famous Billionaire in Gotham being the Dark Knight and could just fly there with powers, she preferred taking the long way in getting a better view of the city.

Feels nice to just explore Batman's home without rushing to a destination mission to fight bad guys, Lea thought to herself, looking around the place. At least, take a break from danger.

Little did the blonde teen know, danger was going to find her.

In another part of Gotham, a well-dressed man appeared out of nowhere. "You know what to do?" He asked. "It's very important this is done right and before two thirty on the dot."

"I know what to do," said his companion that only he seemed to see. "Don't get so uptight. We'll have what we need before then."

"I really hope so," the well-dressed man said. "I've timed this all very carefully and will be quite displeased if we are even thirty seconds late."

Meanwhile, Lea was still walking her way to Wayne Manor until coming across an antique clock store. She immediately looked away while covering the side of her face from seeing the clocks. For those who knew the blonde teen well, she suffers from a deadly fear of hypnosis and anything hypnotist related. Just the thought of it made Lea shiver.

Just then, a well-dressed gentleman left the store. "Thank you for your time," he said while tipping his hat to the shopkeeper. He then turned and saw Lea and politely tipped his hat to her. "Good day, miss," he said, being friendly.

"Oh. Hello," Lea replied, waving back politely. "Good evening to you, as well."

The man smiled. "Perhaps you can help me, miss. I'm looking for a good spot to host a challenge of sorts. Where would be a good place to set up where everyone can see, but have it not be so crowded, too?"

"Well, I haven't been in Gotham for long, but the best ideal place to fit what you're looking for is probably the park," Lea stated, giving the question some thought. "Although, don't take my word for it. What works for me may not work the same for everyone else. If you don't like the park idea, then stick with a favorite landmark of yours here in the city that isn't crowded yet many can see."

The man smiled again. "Thank you, miss. I will try those suggestions," he said, bowing politely before walking away.

"You're welcome, sir," Lea said, waving goodbye until he was gone. "Huh. Never met anyone like him before. I hope he does find a place for his challenge. And what I said was helpful enough."

The man smiled and dropped something on the ground, but hurried away, acting like he didn't know he had dropped something in his rush to get to where he needed to go.

"Her?" His invisible companion asked curiously.

"I believe so," the well-dressed gentleman said with a barely-perceptible nod. "Let's see what she does."

Just as she was about to leave, Lea noticed the 'kind' man had dropped his wallet. The blonde teen ran over to get it and decided to look for him.

"Oh, no. Sir, wait!" Lea called out, already running to find him. "You dropped something important!"

The well-dressed gentleman heard her, but continued on his path, waiting to see what the young lady would do. "Get ready," he said to his invisible companion. "I think we might have just found our pure-hearted maiden."

Lea placed the wallet in her jacket pocket so she wouldn't wave it around in getting the wrong idea from people while still chasing the man. She was not giving up to return what the person she met had lost.

"Sir? Where are you!?" Lea cried, not stopping and looking around for him.

"She's still following," the man's invisible companion said. "Should I give her a hint?"

"Yes, do so," the gentleman said. "I'll make sure I'm visible to her in about ten seconds."

The invisible companion moved closer to Lea before leaning invisibly towards her ear.

"The library," he said softly, seeing that was where the gentleman was.

"Huh? Who said that?" Lea questioned, turning her head to where the library was in later seeing the man she was looking. "Aha! There you are!"

The blonde teen hurried to the destination where she was getting close.

The invisible man flew to his companion again. "She's on her way," he said.

The gentleman turned to see the teen behind him. "Oh, my," he said; his tone full of surprise. "Are you alright, miss?"

Soon, Lea stopped in front of the man to catch her breath and bring out his wallet to return before putting her hands on her knees.

"You...dropped...your wallet...back there," she managed to say, sounding exhausted from running.

"Oh, thank you," he said, patting his pockets before taking the wallet. "I didn't realize I had dropped it. That was very kind of you to find me and return it."

"I wasn't going to let you leave without what's yours being dropped behind," Lea reasoned, now standing straight. "Be glad no random thug took it. Last thing I need is someone worry about having their cash, credit cards, or ID card stolen from a thief."

"You are an honest person. That is a rarity," the man said. "I'd like to reward you."

"Oh, that's not necessary, sir," Lea assured, gently declining the reward she believes is money. "I don't need to be paid for just helping. Doing the right thing is rewarding enough."

"Please, I insist," he said, smiling. "You've done me a great service. Therefore, allow me to give you a free chance to try your hand at my challenge."

"Your challenge?" Lea questioned, recalling how the man talked about that subject with her earlier. "I don't know if I'll pass, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try."

The man smiled and showed her the unique clock in his arms. "You see, I'm trying to get the back of this open, but it requires a delicate touch," he said. "I'm afraid my hands are too big to do so, but perhaps you may have better luck?"

Lea gulped silently. While she is uncomfortable with certain clocks that remind the blonde teen of her fear, she didn't want to let the gentleman down on the spot.

"I'll...see what I can do," Lea stated, taking the clock to examine the back on getting it to open. "All right. Let's take a look..."

The gentleman gave his friend a hidden signal and the invisible friend moved closer; ready to put the plan in action. Just as Lea touched the back of the clock, there was a click and it opened.

Right before something spritzed her in the face.

"Hey!" Lea gasped, dropping the clock to rub her face on what hit her until feeling sleepy. "What was...?"

She didn't finish her sentence where the blonde teen passed out and was about to collapse on the floor.

The gentleman quickly caught her as his friend became visible, revealing himself to be...Gentleman Ghost. "She'll sleep for at least an hour," he said.

"Good," said the other gentleman with a nod before his disguise fell away to reveal himself as the infamous...Clock King. "Let's get moving, then."

Little did they know, their actions did not go unnoticed.

An hour later...

Lea slowly woke up from her unexpected nap. She was still a little drowsy in her head with whatever sprayed from the clock.

"Ohhhhh...What happened?" She muttered, a yawn coming out and slowly getting up to rub her tired eyes. "Where am I?"

"Somewhere where no one can find us," came a voice.

Shaking her head to get the sleepy effect off her drowsy state, Lea's vision returned where she became fully awake in seeing two familiar villains in front of her and gasped sharply.

"Huh?! The Gentleman Ghost and Clock King!?" She shouted in shock, scooting away from the two halfway up.

Turns out, whatever that spray was, it's made her a little sluggish from standing up.

"Seems you've learned about us already. From the Dark Knight, perhaps?" Gentleman Ghost said.

"It's not hard to know who you two are from the news!" Lea remarked, sounding scared. "What do you want from me?! Please, don't say you're going to use me as a human sacrifice in some sort of super natural voodoo ritual."

"What do you take us for? Imbeciles?!" Clock King said, sounding disgusted. "No. You are needed to reach a treasure that is guarded well. And you are going to get it for us, either willingly or while under a spell." He pulled out a pocket watch as he said this.

The blonde teen was more afraid of Clock King than Gentleman Ghost. So much where she can't use her Blue Lantern ring to help out.

"Suddenly, the human sacrifice doesn't seem so bad," Lea remarked, looking away fast from the watch Clock King was holding in small horror. "HEEEEEEELLLLLLPPP!"

When screaming that last part, Lea managed to stumble in running with any energy she could gain.

Unfortunately for her, Gentleman Ghost grabbed the blonde teen from escaping and tied her up. Specifically, around her torso and her wrists where her hands are literally tied.

"Let's get moving," he said to the other villain, dragging the prisoner towards him. "It's almost time."

"Time for what?! Why are you two doing this?!" Lea exclaimed, struggling to get away from Clock King. "How could I possibly help in getting some treasure?! Don't you have minions for doing that?"

"You are pure of heart, which is what we need," Clock King said.

"Look, I feel like you guys have me mistaken here," Lea reasoned, gently. "I'm not that pure of heart on anything. I have flaws as much as anyone. I don't have what it takes for this task."

"Oh, but you do," Gentleman Ghost said. "Now stop squirming before I drop you."

The blonde teen gulped, not making it any worse than it already is. while in deep thought to herself. Ohhh, I hope Batman will show up soon. Or any heroes that know about me being in trouble. I can try to send some S.O.S. with my ring, but I don't want to risk Clock King and or Gentleman Ghost noticing to figure out I'm not some regular civilian. I just got to play along, for now.

Little did Lea know: someone did know she was in trouble.

And they were working on a plan to save her.

Who knows and is working to save Lea? We shall see. :)
