When Two Worlds Collide
Chapter 5
"Wait!" Andy slowed the car and moved into the turn lane, "We probably need some actual breakfast food at my house."
"Why does it not surprise me that you're lacking in the breakfast department?" Melissa shifted in her seat to face him more directly.
"Breakfast just isn't my thing, sleep…sleep is my thing. Sleep over breakfast, always!" he defended his stance on his lack of groceries.
"Fine, fine. I get it," Melissa threw her hands up in surrender. "So, then, free will when it comes to shopping?" She playfully batted her eyelashes and stuck out her bottom lip.
"Oh yeah, we can get whatever. Cereal, pop-tarts, toaster strudels, I know how to make it all…" Andy tried to maintain a straight face but broke out in laughter at the look that appeared on Mel's face. "I'm kidding. We'll grab the usuals, sausage, bacon, waffle mix, biscuits and gravy, fruit, whatever you're feeling up for."
A smile grew across Mel's cheeks when he mentioned it was about what she wanted. "Game on!"
A few minutes later, they pulled into Trader Joe's and Andy parked his car. Both he and Melissa threw a hat on to avoid any potential run ins with the paparazzi who always seem to find them, no matter where they ended up. It was something they would never get used to, but they tried their best to always remain respectful to them, no matter how rude they could come off for a picture. They both exited the vehicle and walked next to one another into the store, thankfully only noticing one camera in the distance clicking away. They had kept their heads low, but it wouldn't matter for that photographer.
"Ok, cart secured," Andy pulled the cart back from the row it had been sitting in just inside the main entrance doors. He pushed it in Melissa's direction.
"Perfect, lets start with the shelf stuff and move to the fridge stuff after that!" Mel took charge, leading the way as Andy followed behind her. She grabbed items from the shelves, throwing them over her shoulder as if she were a seasoned NBA player while Andy followed along, dodging the cart left and right to see if she'd make it in each time. Each time she made it, they both threw their arms up in a celebratory victory, as if the shot meant winning something. This went on through the remainder of their trip through the store, grabbing the attention, sometimes positive, sometimes negative, of those shopping around them.
After checking out and snapping a selfie with the cashier who was starstruck over seeing them, they headed back out to the car, dodging the one photographer as he was busy facing the opposite direction. When Andy noticed his location, he motioned silently for Melissa to jump on the cart and through a fit of silent giggles, he pushed her all the way to the car. He slowed down and Melissa fell back against him, and he caught her with one arm, both cracking up at what had just gone down.
"Man, I can't believe we escaped him the second time," Melissa held her hands against her stomach, a dull ache forming from all the laughter. Her arm brushed against Andy's as his slid off her once she was steadied. There it was, that bolt of electricity. The one he unknowingly caused her. She brushed past it as much as she could without showing any outward signs of the tingling she felt from his touch.
"Come on, lets load up and get out of here before he finds us!" Andy prompted, popping open the trunk on his SUV. Melissa grabbed bags and passed them to him. He placed them in an organized fashion in the back and after handing him the last bag, Melissa pushed the cart a few spots down to the cart corral.
Walking back, she started to hear the click of a camera. She turned over her shoulder to see the photographer moving in on her. She took off for Andy's car and threw the door open, jumping inside and slamming it shut.
Andy looked over at her, confusion masking his face, "What the hell?"
"That damn photographer was running up on me, so fucking disrespectful!" She whipped the hat off and threw it to the floor, tucking the stray hair back behind her ears, her voice filled with disgust.
Andy felt a wave of anger wash over him. "Stay here, I'll be right back." Before she could even say anything, Andy was out of the car and walking towards the photographer.
"Are you serious, man? Was it necessary to chase her down like that?" He tried to keep a cool tone, but his anger was seething at the surface.
"Just doing my job, Samberg," the man responded.
"Be a little more respectful next time, ass." Andy turned and walked back to his car, not another word said.
Melissa had turned and watched this verbal altercation go down from the safety of his vehicle. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach as she watched Andy defend her. 'Man, I think I'm falling deeply in love with that man.'
Andy was back to his side of the car in only a few short strides. He got in, offered a half smile at Mel and stated, "It probably won't change anything, but I set him straight today at least."
Mel half smiled back, "Thanks, Andy."
Andy pressed the ignition button and backed out of the parking spot, headed out and off to his house.
…
When the last bag was carried in, Andy shut and locked the door behind him. Melissa had begun unbagging everything in the kitchen.
As he walked to her with the last bag, setting it on the island, he realized how domesticated this all felt, how happy his heart felt in that moment. Without noticing, he had started to grow accustomed to having Melissa around. They had begun hanging out more frequently and at this moment, he knew he absolutely needed to act on his feelings to see if she had reciprocated them. 'No more messing around, show her, tell her, god damnit, just see how she feels!' he screamed internally.
They both reached into the bag at the same time to grab out the remaining items and when their hands brushed, neither pulled back immediately. They looked up at each other and smiled. Melissa broke the silence, "I got this, can you start the stove?"
"Uh, yeah, sure." Andy pulled his hand back out of the bag, returned her smile, and walked past her, purposefully brushing his arm against her on his way to the stove. Andy set a pan on the unlit stove and half turned back, "Eggs, please?"
Melissa grabbed the carton of eggs from in front of her and popped it open, "Lets make this fun…" She grabbed an egg out into each hand and added an additional egg to her left hand. "We're going to juggle. First to drop an egg makes the whole meal."
Andy laughed, "I thought I was cooking for you anyways?" He walked over to her, getting closer than necessary and grabbed three eggs out, slowly backing up to where he just was.
"Yeah, well, I like a little competition, and I definitely like to cook, so why not?" She tipped her head questioningly.
"You're on…but spitting facts, I definitely can't juggle…and that means you're going to taste everything I make!" He let out a solid laugh and shook the eggs in his hands.
Melissa giggled in response and shifted the eggs in her own hands, "Ok, ready? Three…two…one…go!" She started tossing her eggs up, as did he, and as quickly as the eggs went up, they came down to the floor, cracking at their feet.
"Oh my god!" Melissa jumped back, a belly laugh escaping her. Andy cracked up at this response, "Wow, Mel, you made me mess up! You've got floor duty!" He pointed to the floor.
"I don't think so! Yours hit the ground first!" she yelled.
"I'm going to need a replay!" Andy raised his hand to his mouth and called out as if he was talking to someone watching them.
Melissa looked around the kitchen, "Where do you keep your mop?"
"If I tell you, I'll have to kill you," Andy dipped his chin and lowered his voice into a deep octave.
"Bring..it..on.." she started backing away from him slowly, feeling along the island to reach the end of it. Once there, she rounded it, never breaking contact.
"Oh, it's on!" Andy yelled, jumping over the eggs and moving quickly towards her.
Melissa let out a squeak and took off running towards his living room, giggling all the while. She checked back over her shoulder and squealed when she saw he was right behind her. He grabbed her by the waist and tackled her softly into the couch, Melissa landing on her back, face up, with Andy landing on top of her. He began tickling her sides, "I win!" he declared his victory.
"Not..a..chance…" she forced out through giggles. She wrapped her leg around one of his and grabbed his shoulders with her ends. In a struggled motion, she managed to flip him on to the floor, landing on top of him with a thud. The pair continued laughing, Mel's head falling into Andy's chest as she couldn't contain herself.
As the laughter began to subside, she lifted her head off him. Without a thought, Andy reached up and brushed the hair back out of her face, his hand slowly moving behind her ear and down her neck. Melissa watched his eyes follow his own hands before they were staring back at her. Only inches separated them, just as they had in his trailer, and her heart began thudding loudly against her chest. Melissa took a deep breath to try and slow her heart rate, now becoming very aware of how intimate this moment felt between them.
Andy's hand shifted down to her shoulder as her fingers pressed into his shoulders.
"Andy…there's something I need to te…"
In one swift motion, Andy lifted his head and pulled her body down to meet him. Their lips crashed together forcefully. His hand shifted back up into her hair and her hands moved to meet the nape of his neck.
Andy turned his head and bit softly at the bottom of her lip. Melissa let out a pleasureful moan and leaned into him further. She shifted her legs to each side of him and pulled back, sitting upright. Their eyes opened simultaneously, not a word needing to be said. Andy pushed himself upright, Melissa still straddling him, and pulled her lips back to his. His arms wrapped around her back, hers wrapping one around his shoulder, the other reaching for his face.
Melissa slid her tongue along Andy's lower lip before he parted to let it in his mouth. Their tongues danced against one another's as their passionate make-out session continued. This was something both had wanted for so long and neither wanted it to stop, but the need for air became too much and they separated once more.
Andy looked up at Melissa, "Mel, I like you…a lot…and I think we have something here. I'd be a fool to ignore how you make you feel."
Melissa felt the heat rise to her cheeks, her face becoming flush. She had only ever wanted to hear these words from him, and it felt very dream like to be hearing them now. "I like you too, Andy…a lot!"
He chuckle snorted in relief and placed both hands on her cheeks, pulling her lips down to his once more, kissing her three short, consecutive times.
Melissa's hands fell on top of his and she couldn't help but crack a huge grin after the third kiss. Andy slipped his hands out from under and grabbed hers, bringing them to his lips and kissing them once each. He then wrapped his arms around her lower back and hugged her, her reciprocating.
"Should we go make breakfast?" Mel whispered into his ear, "Probably going to need some stamina for later…" she trailed off.
Andy pulled his head back and looked up at her, "Later…what's later?"
Melissa shifted her weight and began to stand, Andy's arms falling to his sides, "I guess that's for you to find out!" she winked. She stepped over him and skipped off to the kitchen.
He stood quickly and followed her, curious as to what she had planned, but not so naive about her potential plans.
'God, that woman is everything,' he smiled to himself as he rounded the wall and saw her grabbing more eggs to be made.

Not quite sure how I feel about this chapter but it felt good enough to post. Let me know what you think! xx
