Brandi was the first to arrive to Elizabeth's house. After the second dose of narcan, Emily woke up, but her pulse weakened until it stopped. Brandi began chest compressions and seconds before the paramedic arrived, her heart started beating. The paramedics took over, and Brandi had to ask Elizabeth questions as to what happened. When she was done, Elizabeth went straight to the hospital.
At the hospital, it had been a couple hours before Elizabeth could even see Emily. Even then, Emily was sleeping. Elizabeth did what she did when she first brought baby Emily home from the hospital. She watched her sleep so she knew she was alive and breathing. Elizabeth had called Hotch explaining what happened. She knew the team was in the waiting room, but she wasn't ready for anyone else to be in the room just yet. When she was ready, she walked out to the waiting room. Instantly, she could see JJ sitting down looking very worried. "You have a lot of nerve being here." Elizabeth said, looking right at JJ.
"Elizabeth, I-"
"I don't care what you have to say. Leave this hospital right now, or we're going to have even more problems than we already have." Elizabeth said sternly.
"But-"
"That's an order, JJ." Hotch said. He noticed Elizabeth's eyes burning holes into JJ, so he figured he would step in before there was a fight. JJ sighed and grabbed her purse. She stood up and left the hospital in tears.
"Thank you." Elizabeth told Hotch.
"No problem." Hotch said.
"Officer Desmond?" Elizabeth said, looking past the team.
"Hi, I'm sorry to just show up. My shift just ended and wanted to see how Emily is doing." Brandi said.
"Of course. We were just getting ready to go to her room," Elizabeth said. "You brought her favorite flowers?" Elizabeth asked.
"I did. We've haven't known each other long, but I remember a few little things about her." Brandi said.
"So you've met before tonight?" Elizabeth asked.
"We have." Brandi said. She didn't want to get into details about how they met.
"You were very professional tonight, especially with knowing her. I know if I saw someone I know laying lifeless, I would definitely freak out and probably request someone else take over." Elizabeth said.
"Trust me, I was freaking out on the inside and really hoping she would pull through. But I've learned to compartmentalize my personal feelings until the call is done." Brandi explained.
"You definitely did a great job of that," Elizabeth said. "Let's go see Emily." Everyone followed Elizabeth, and they allowed for two people to go in at a time. Brandi decided to go last since she knew Emily would most likely want to see her team first. When she walked in, Emily a small smile.
"You remembered my favorite flowers?" Emily asked.
"I did," Brandi said with a smile. "I didn't really know what else to get you. So I figured these may cheer you up."
"Thank you." Emily said with a small smile.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Brandi asked.
"Not really. Maybe some day, but not now." Emily said.
"Okay, I completely understand." Brandi said.
"How did you know I was here?" Emily asked.
"I was one of the responding officers. The first to get there, actually." Brandi answered.
"I'm sorry." Emily said. Brandi could see tears welling up in her eyes, threatening to fall.
"Hey, it will be okay. I don't know exactly what happened, but I do know that you and JJ broke up. I won't press for the details, but if you ever want to talk or get some coffee and chat, then I will be here for you. We may not know each other very well, but I think we could be great friends." Brandi said.
"I may take you up on that." Emily said.
"Whatever you need, just say when and where, and I'll be there. If I'm not working, of course. Or you're in a different state, Miss FBI." Brandi said which caused Emily to chuckle.
"What, you don't want to take a couple vacation days to visit me in a completely different state while I'm on a case and listen to me rant about something or have a deep conversation? I don't know, that doesn't seem very friend-like of you to not visit me." Emily said, causing Brandi to chuckle.
"Okay, maybe that doesn't sound too bad. But I do have to go. I will be back tomorrow since I have the day off. You get some rest, okay?" Brandi said.
"I'll try. Thank you for the flowers." Emily said. They said their goodbyes, and Emily was back to being alone until her mom came in to say goodbye to her since she wasn't allowed to stay with Emily. Shortly after her mom left, Emily fell asleep. She wasn't looking forward to the next 24 hours since they had to keep her there overnight.
