"Hey, hey!" JJ heard someone say as the entered her room. It was Maya, Henry, and her mom. Well, their mom.
"Hey! Come meet Michael!" JJ said with a smile. She was currently holding Michael as he slept. All three walked over to her bedside and looked at the little guy.
"Aww he's so cute!" Maya said.
"Is that my brother?" Henry asked.
"Yep! He's your little brother." JJ said.
"Yay! I can finally play dinosaurs with him!" Henry exclaimed.
"Maybe not quite yet, but eventually you can when he's bigger." JJ said.
"Why not? He's here though." Henry said with a sad look.
"He's not quite old enough yet. You'll get to play dinosaurs in a few years, don't worry." JJ said.
"Okay." Henry said sadly.
"So you went with Will's last name?" Sandra asked.
"I figured it would be better than trying to explain why one has his last name and the other has mine." JJ answered.
"Okay. Well have you ate yet? We were going to stop and get some breakfast." Sandy said.
"You're getting discharged already?" JJ asked Maya.
"Not yet. Just waiting for the papers." Maya answered.
"Oh okay. Well the only thing I want is chicken nuggets with buffalo sauce and French toast with apple pie in the middle." JJ answered, which caused her mom to chuckle.
"Well I don't think I can get the nuggets, but I may be able to do the French toast and apple pie." Sandy said.
"Can you get me an omelette with everything on it instead of the chicken nuggets?" JJ asked.
"Of course. Would you like anything Maya?" Sandy asked.
"I will do an omelette with everything and some hash browns extra crispy." Maya said.
"Okay. Ready Henry?" Sandy asked. Henry jumped up as he was excited to explore the city and get out of the hospital for a little bit.
"So tell me about yourself. I want to know everything about you. Sandy was very vague when telling me who you are. All I know is you were captain of the soccer team your senior year in high school and went to college in Pittsburgh. That's really all I know. Well, also that you now have two kids." Maya said.
"Well I work for the FBI. I'm in the BAU there. I did have a husband who is the boys' father, but we got a divorce a long while ago. I did have a girlfriend who was my fiancé, but that's a whole other story in itself. So now I'm a single mom of two and have no idea how I'm going to do it by myself. Oh, I also found our oldest sister in the bathroom after she committed suicide when I was 11." JJ answered.
"Oh wow. First of all, that's badass of you to be in the FBI. Second, you're gonna have to tell me this story about your ex. Lastly, I'm so sorry that you had to see her like that at such a young age." Maya said.
"Yeah. I had to go to therapy for a few years after it happened." JJ said.
"What about now? Surely with everything you see being in the FBI, it would affect your mental health." Maya said.
"I don't really go now. I've learned to just compartmentalize everything. But if I did need to talk, I usually went to Emily." JJ answered.
"Do you not talk to Emily anymore?" Maya asked, trying to understand a bit better. JJ was going to answer, but tears started to form and eventually started to fall. "She's the ex," Maya stated. JJ nodded her head. "Okay well, if you're ready to tell me, I would like to hear this story so I can better understand why you don't really talk to her anymore." Maya said. JJ took a deep breath and started from the beginning. Maya sat and listened and was processing every detail.
"I know, I'm a bad person for doing that, but-"
"You didn't know how to tell her or when the right time was." Maya said, finishing her sentence. JJ nodded her head.
"I also know that if I told her from the beginning or waited even longer to tell her, I still would've lost her as my friend. So it was a lose-lose situation. Though it probably would've hurt a lot less if I had just told her at the beginning." JJ said.
"Yeah, probably. But, I think that right now you just have to keep earning back her trust. I know she's been nice, but that doesn't mean that she trusts you. It will also help if you support her relationship with Brandi even though it hurts. I mean, she did support you and Will. It probably hurt her to see you be in a relationship with a guy, and she wished that she would've told you that she liked you. It's going to be hard, but maybe in the end, you two were meant to be together. It sounds like you two really loved each other." Maya said.
"We did. I may not have actually liked her in the beginning, but at the end, I couldn't see myself marrying anyone else. She was my true love." JJ said.
"Well, I think it's time for some song therapy. This is what I like to do when I'm feeling sad. Though it would also involve driving around, but we can't exactly do that. So, I know that you just had Michael, but I'm going to need you to set him in the bassinet for this exercise." Maya said.
"Would you like to hold him?" JJ asked. Maya wasn't expecting that.
"A-are you sure?" Maya asked.
"Of course. I mean, you are my sister after all." JJ said.
"Okay," Maya said. JJ handed Michael over to Maya, and Maya was so ecstatic to hold him. "Okay, so based off of your story, I think this song fits perfectly. Well, kind of. It's just one of my favorite songs to cry to. Now, I'm going to need you to close your eyes and imagine that it's nighttime, and you're driving around. Then this song comes on your Spotify." Maya said. She started playing 'Enchanted (Taylor's Version)' by Taylor Swift. Though it wasn't exactly a match to JJ and Emily's situation, it still made JJ cry. Like a lot. Maya then started playing 'Emily' by Quiet Houses. JJ has never heard the song before, but she definitely listened to the lyrics. It made her cry as well as she thought of Emily moving on with Brandi. But then she suddenly jolted her eyes open.
"Sorry, I ran into a tree." JJ said and then chuckled. This then caused Maya to chuckle.
"Well I guess now you know to not do that in real life." Maya said. Maya and JJ decided to play rapid questions and answer the same time with the first thing that pops into their mind. Turns out they actually had a lot in common including an obsession with Cheetos.
JJ and Michael were released from the hospital two days later. They all stayed with Maya and Carina, and Maya even gave them a tour of the fire house. Henry was, of course, so excited. The entire team loved him and Michael. It was a little awkward between Jack and JJ, and they all sensed that. But they never asked questions.
"You know, I think I've seen you on TV before." Travis said.
"Probably. I've had a few cases here when I was the communications liaison for the BAU and did many press conferences that aired on TV." JJ said.
"BAU?" Andrea asked.
"Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI." JJ answered.
"Oh wow! You have officially become the cooler than your sister over here." Travis said.
"I wouldn't say that. I mean, she won a gold medal, which is way cooler than being in the FBI." JJ said.
"Debatable." Travis said. They all hung out for a bit longer before they ended up getting a call. The four of them stayed at the fire house until the team returned, which was about an hour and a half later.
"Hey, Carina wants to know if you guys want to go to dinner with her so you can get to know one another." Maya said.
"We would love to!" Sandy said.
"Okay. I will tell her." Maya said. She messaged Carina, and she replied that she will be there to pick them up in half an hour. So Maya relayed the message.
"Hey how soon do you have to put in a vacation?" JJ asked.
"At least a month in advance." Maya answered.
"Well how about in a month you come down to Virginia for however long you want, and I can show you around. You can even meet my team. I'll still be on maternity leave since I get 12 weeks, but we are still able to visit them." JJ suggested.
"Sure! Is Carina able to come along as well?" Maya asked.
"Of course!" JJ said. The dinner with Carina went really well. They got to know Carina more and vice versa. JJ loved meeting everyone, and she didn't want to leave. But, unfortunately they were only staying for four more days before heading back to Virginia.
