Peter Pettigrew had managed to avoid most of the battle by hiding in his animagus form. Most people would be disappointed with finding out that the form they could transform into was a rat, but not Peter.
Rats were small, easily unseen and could get places others couldn't. It wasn't the coolest or flashiest, but it was useful.
He had seen many deaths today. More than he'd seen in his entire life. He didn't know who was going to win or who he wanted to.
If Voldemort won, then he would continue to be seen as nothing more than a laughing stock, a joke. He was sure that in no time, the dark lord would no longer see his usefulness and dispose of him.
If the Order won, then he would be granted a one way ticket to Azkaban or the dementor's kiss. That is if they could find him.
He was already considering doing what he always did when things got tough. He'd run away. Before Voldemort's return, he had been spending his time pretending to be the Weasley family's pet rat. He could find himself a similar position again. Not in the country of course, he'd have to leave, but he'd be safe and most importantly alive.
He had been on his way to leaving the Hogwarts grounds so he could be away from the wards and apparate, but was hit by a white spell. It caused him to instantly change into his human form. The Animagus Reversal spell.
"Hello, Wormtail."
Peter's heart froze. He nervously looked up and saw his two former best friends. Sirius Black and Remus Lupin.
"R-Remus… S-Sirius…"
"Didn't think we'd notice you?" Sirius asked, he then tapped his nose. "You forget, I've got a great sense of smell."
Peter paled and began begging, hoping to appeal to the parts of the two men that remembered their friendship.
"P-p-please," He stammered, "I-I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt anyone."
"Shut up!" Sirius roared, his face full of fury.
"This has been a long time coming, Peter. I've waited a long time for this."
Both men began raising their wand, ready to strike. Peter, quicker than either man expected, pulled out his own wand and created a wall of fire between them. He used the blockade to escape. He ran into the castle and down the long hallways. He eventually found two masked Death Eaters.
"Sirius Black and Remus Lupin are behind me! Kill them! Kill them both!" He ordered.
The two Death Eaters looked at each other but followed his instructions. Peter allowed a small smile of relief to surface. That should buy him time to escape. He began running again, ready to transform back into a rat but ran right into a person.
Peter bounced off them and onto his behind. He began rubbing his injured area.
"Black and Lupin are behind me, they must-" Peter froze as soon as he realized who this person was. They weren't a Death Eater.
It was a young man, a teenager, with messy short black hair, wearing a long black coat with white designs, black pants and black dragonhide boots. His most captivating feature was his eyes, green like emeralds, hidden behind glasses, yet still showcasing the power held within them.
"Hello, Peter." He said, in a tone that chilled Peter this core.
"H-Hadrian…" The fear that Peter felt right now, was more than he'd ever felt in the presence of the dark lord.
Peter turned and began to run back in the opposite direction but ran into a translucent green wall. He looked around and saw both he and Hadrian were incased in them.
"Going somewhere?" Hadrian asked.
Peter let out a noise of terror, he pulled out his wand but it was summoned out of his hands and swatted away by Hadrian. Clattering to the ground.
"I have some questions, Peter. And I will get my answers."
Hadrian looked at the man before him. He had only had two previous encounters with the man. First when he met him in third year, second, when Voldemort performed the ritual that gave him a new body. Peter had helped, cutting Hadrian's forearm with a knife and dropping the blood on it into a cauldron.
Now he would get the chance to finally talk to the man who had once been one of his father's best friends. He had heard many stories about him from Sirius, Remus and others about the type of person he was. Seeing him in the flesh, Hadrian found he agreed with their assessment: Peter Pettigrew was a coward.
"What I want to know is, why?" Hadrian asked. "Why did you sell out my parents?"
"You, you don't understand what it was like back then." Peter began but was cut off by Hadrian laughing humorlessly.
Hadrian gestured to the battle raging outside. "I think I've got a good idea."
Peter looked down. Licking his lips as he formulated his answer.
"I knew it was hopeless, the dark lord couldn't be defeated. I went to him to join his ranks. When I was taken to him by Death Eaters, I thought he was going to kill me before I could ask. He looked at me like I was dirt beneath his feet. I saw him pull out his wand and that's when I asked to join him, he laughed. Then he said that he needed a spy in the Order. Severus wasn't in there yet, obviously. I told him that they were planning a raid on a Death Eater camp. With my warning they were prepared and held off the attack. After that, I became his spy."
Peter fiddled with his fingers nervously.
"It was the perfect position. Either way I was safe. If the dark lord lost, no one would know I was his mole and if the order lost, I would be spared for my services." Peter sounded genuinely impressed with himself.
"My mother always worried about me. Even at school. She was always fussing about me being involved with these dangerous missions for the Order. But this way, I'd be safe. I was never seen as much help, so most people forget about me. I could get information very easily. You see, I was doing a good thing. I was helping my mother. It led to some others dying, but…"
"I don't care about your mother." Hadrian told him. "I don't care about the other people you betrayed. I care about my parents!"
Peter's pride in himself faded and he actually looked ashamed.
"I wasn't the first choice. When Sirius declined, they immediately thought of Remus. But he was away on a mission and suspicion on the identity of the mole caused them not to choose him. Only then did they choose me." Jealousy and bitterness had creeped into Peter's voice.
"So you betrayed him." Hadrian spoke, anger slowly rising. "A man who took you, someone who would've been an insignificant speck on this planet, who would've never amounted to anything in his life! He took you under his wing and became your friend!"
Peter cowered away, slowly moving back.
"He trusted you with the safety of his family! And how did you repay that trust!? How did you repay all those years of friendship!? You turned coat."
Peter looked down, tears running down his face.
The walls surrounding them shattered like glass. Peter heard footsteps behind him and turned around to see Sirius and Remus.
"Surprised to see us?" Sirius asked with his signature cocky grin.
"Unfortunately, those two back there didn't put up much of a fight." Remus told him.
Sirius scoffed. "I'd hardly call it a fight. Wasn't even a warm up."
Hadrian began walking towards Peter, cracking his knuckles. "Sirius and Remus have been kind enough to give me the pleasure of dealing with you.
Peter whimpered in fear.
"Today might be the best day of my life. I get to deal with the three men responsible for my parents death. I've dealt with one already. Now, I get the next one."
Hadrian flicked his wand and the metal hand that Peter had been gifted by Voldemort for his sacrifice in the resurrection ritual was ripped off and into Hadrian's hand. It gave a sickening sound as it was pulled and had Peter's blood dripping from it.
Hadrian threw it behind him. He holstered his wand and grabbed Peter by the collar of his shirt. He pulled his right hand back and rammed it into Pettigrew's jaw.
Peter hit the ground and let out a pained whimper. Hadrian picked him up and began hitting him again and again.
"You're not worth the magical power it would take to cast spells." Hadrian told him as the man bled on the floor.
"I could cast the Cruciatus, or any other torture spell. But I want to feel this. Feel you getting what you deserve by my hand."
He picked Peter up by his collar again, pulling back for another punch. Peter was a mess now. His nose was broken and his face bruised. Blood was covering his face.
"The pain you're feeling right now. It's nothing compared to what you put me through." Hadrian looked up at his father's two remaining best friends. "And what I feel isn't a fraction of what they feel."
Hadrian threw the man back down and backed away. "Go ahead." He told the two men. His fists were covered with blood but he didn't seem bothered.
Sirius and Remus took his place and pointed their wands at Peter.
Peter tried to speak through the pain and blood but it was unintelligible. It sounded like he was pleading.
"Goodbye, Peter." Sirius said.
"Avada Kedavra!" Two beams of green shot out at the same time hitting their target.
Remus slowly walked over to a wall and steadied himself against it. Taking deep breaths. Hadrian went over to comfort him.
"I'm fine, Harry." Remus told him.
Hadrian looked over at his godfather, who was still staring at Peter's body. Hadrian walked over and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. He could see the turmoil in Sirius' eyes.
"Sirius?"
"I've waited for this moment for so long. Dreamed of it. But now it's here and I feel…"
"He was your friend." Hadrian comforted. As he looked at Pettigrew's body, Hadrian began imagining how he would've felt if one of his friends had betrayed him. Well, he had been betrayed but not to the scale of what Peter had done.
"He was." Sirius mumbled before walking off. He saw the metal hand on the floor and picked it up. He waved it at Remus and Hadrian.
"Souvenir. To remember the moment."
Hadrian smirked. "You probably should clean that."
Sirius looked at it and saw the blood that stained the bottom of it, some of it still dripping.
"Ew."
Hadrian and Remus chuckled. Hadrian looked out at the ongoing battle.
"Time to head back." He said as he stood side by side with his honorary uncles.
"We've got a war to win."
