75 Years Chapter 3

Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games

Following the Second Hunger Games, Dr Gaul, Head Gamemaker, satisfied with the fact that the Tributes finally showed the resolve to kill each other. If at least ten deaths at the hands of the other Tributes goal is achieved, then maybe the Games would get even more interesting, she later wrote.

The Tributes:

District 1: Elizabeth Plantagent (17), Ethelbert King (18)

District 2: Ariana Birdwell (18), Hercules Roberts (18)

District 3: Juliana Dean (16), Clemont Albon (17)

District 4: Denny Hamilton (18), Horatio Styles (16)

District 5: Evie Ahmet (17), Keanu Westwood (17)

District 6: Saffie Pope (14), Duncan Peake (15)

District 7: Selene Ambrose (13), Ash Blake (15)

District 8: Tilly Zane (16), Carlos Spinner (14)

District 9: Summer Pearson (13), Jussi Branson (15)

District 10: Beatrice Draghi (14), Quentin Springfield (15)

District 11: Ginny Canova (16), Tor Dybala (13)

District 12: June Holloway (17), Basil Reid (16)

After entering the Arena, the Twenty-Four Tributes looked for places to hide. Ethelbert King, the District 1 male, grabbed a sword and swiftly ran through a boy from District 12 who was running

24th: Basil Reid, District 12. Third Hunger Games. Killed by Ethelbert

Hercules Roberts, grabbing his chance, strangled a Tribute from District 8 to death

23rd: Tilly Zane, District 8. Third Hunger Games. Killed by Hercules

Ariana Birdwell had stabbed a pair of Tributes to death

22nd: Carlos Spinner, District 8. Third Hunger Games. Killed by Ariana

21st: Summer Pearson, District 9. Third Hunger Games. Killed by Ariana

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Plantagent and Keanu Westwood were in a fight over a crossbow. After wrestling the crossbow away the District 5 male fired the bolts into the girl

20th: Elizabeth Plantagent, District 1. Third Hunger Games. Killed by Keanu

As day turned to night, Ethelbert had got two more kills: a girl from District 10 and a boy from District 11. The girl he decapitated as she went into hiding, the boy he speared from behind

19th: Beatrice Draghi, District 10. Third Hunger Games. Killed by Ethelbert

18th: Tor Dybala, District 11. Third Hunger Games. Killed by Ethelbert

Overnight, two more Tributes passed away from illness

17th: Ash Blake, District 7. Third Hunger Games. Illness

16th: Saffie Pope, District 6. Third Hunger Games. Illness

By dawn of Day 2, three more Tributes had died through internal injury

15th: Jussi Branson, District 9. Third Hunger Games. Complications from internal injuries

14th: Evie Ahmet, District 5. Third Hunger Games. Complications from internal injuries

13th: Clemont Albon, District 3. Third Hunger Games. Complications from internal injuries

As Day 2 went on, the District 2 Tributes ambushed a boy from District 6. Armed with their weapons, the pair started to dismember him until he died of blood loss

12th: Duncan Peake, District 6. Third Hunger Games. Blood loss as a result of Hercules and Ariana

Satisfied at the work, Hercules and Ariana began hunting down for the other Tributes. A few hours later, with the sky darkening, a girl from District 7 starved to death

11th: Selene Ambrose, District 7. Third Hunger Games. Starvation

Another Tribute, fearing the stronger Tributes from Districts 1 and 2, found a knife and drove it into her chest

10th: Juliana Dean, District 3. Third Hunger Games. Suicide

By Day 3, only nine Tributes was left: Ethelbert King from District 1, Ariana Birdwell and Hercules Roberts from District 2, Denny Hamilton and Horatio Styles from District 4, Keanu Westwood from District 5, Quentin Springfield from District 10, Ginny Canova from District 11 and June Holloway from District 12. Of course, by the end of Day 3, just four of those Tributes would be left alive. The first deaths of Day 3 saw the pair of District 4 perish through starvation

9th: Denny Hamilton, District 4. Third Hunger Games. Starvation

8th: Horatio Styles, District 4. Third Hunger Games. Starvation

By midday, Ariana Birdwell was also dead, a bolt in her chest

7th: Ariana Birdwell, District 2. Third Hunger Games. Killed by Keanu

Late afternoon also saw another death, as one of the more stronger Tributes died from infection. During this time Keanu and June decided to temporary ally to take down the remaining strongest Tribute left in the Games

6th: Ethelbert King, District 1. Third Hunger Games. Infection

The final death of Day 3 was another starvation death.

5th: Quentin Springfield, District 10. Third Hunger Games. Starvation

Day 4 opened with a fight between three Tributes. Hercules had crossed paths with Keanu and June, who had formed a temporary alliance, and managed to overcome the lithe District 5 boy

4th: Keanu Westwood, District 5. Third Hunger Games. Killed by Hercules

What Hercules didn't realise that Keanu had lent June his knife, and as Hercules drove his sword through the District 5 boy, the District 12 girl was attacking him. Turning around, Hercules drove his knife into June, killing her

3rd: June Holloway, District 12. Third Hunger Games. Killed by Hercules

However, looking at the pool of blood around him, Hercules started to feel faint as blood loss began to affect him. By evening, he had bled to death, leaving the quiet girl from District 11 the only survivor of the Third Hunger Games

2nd: Hercules Roberts, District 2. Third Hunger Games. Blood loss

1st: Ginny Canova, District 11. Third Hunger Games. Victor

Aftermath:

Ginny was lucky to survive the Third Hunger Games, as by this time she was close to death. The Capitol doctors kept an eye on her in the days afterwards in case she passes away, but a fortnight later she had regained weight and was able to return home to District 11, where she lived up until the 63rd Hunger Games. June Holloway's placing of third was the second consecutive time District 12 had finished third, and until the 10th Hunger Games, their highest-placed finishing for a female Tribute. Keanu Westwood's tactics of "wrestling weapons from the strongest Tribute" would be repeated in the decades to come with various successes*. A notable fact about this Games is that it was the only time in Hunger Games history in which no Tributes aged twelve were Reaped. June and Keanu's alliance to take down Hercules was notable in the fact it was the first inter-district alliance created specifically to take down a stronger Tribute. Like the games before and including the 10th Hunger Games, only Dr. Gaul's "Master Tapes" of the Games exist. Below is a portion of Dr. Gaul's notes on the Third Hunger Games

Things are satisfactory death-wise. Thirteen killed at the hands of another Tribute. Perhaps the next Games will break the record.

*The first successes of this would take place during the following Games, when the District 10 and 12 boys managed to wrestle weapons off the Districts 1 and 2 boys. The tactic of wrestling a weapon off a stronger Tribute then use the same weapon against them is dubbed the "Georges-Hennessey Technique" after the Tributes of the 4th Hunger Games who employed this method.
